Lynnpickering "more comfortably in the plane seat" for approximately 20 hrs? Great motivation!
Kim great news about PayPal doing the right thing. how very scary!
Michele glad you got your password changed. Do you let your internet browser "remember" logins and passwords? If so, please reconsider, just sayin'.
Lanette overjoyed for your DH's good vascular news! "super icy deck" Yuck! One of the things I do NOT miss about living in Idaho.
Rye Mocha Latte is a cutie! How are Kidd Kirby and Jackie Kane adapting to the new addition?
Rebecca so glad your youngest sailor called and eased your heart.
Rori ((hugs)) and safe travels. Enjoy P.V. muchly!
Barbie may we see a pic of your little volunteer pumpkin? Loved your soapbox moment, two of my favorite quotes.
Katla wish you were coming all the way down the Oregon Coast, would love to meet up. Maybe next year? Poo on those complaining neighbors, they're just jealous!
Welcome LindsayGii. Boredom, depression, isolation, all big health risks, but you knew that. Ditto Heather's advice in spades. How soon can you transfer out from the middle east?
Heather one piece of trash... hmm, I'm fairly obsessive about recycling so alas, that won't get me going... but I've got to do something, Joe just brought in two more boxes of books from the garage. Who is the author of Blueprint? Haven't done the Ancestry/23 and me tests... yet... but may someday. As an adoptee who only found her birth mother after Mama and Papa passed, I alternate between eagerness for and aversion to connecting with unknowns on father's side. "Strategy is stronger than willpower", another favorite quote.
Karen in VA Good for you for setting boundaries with your brother. Sounds like my very dear friend who messages me multiple times daily but no longer sends those huge videos thank goodness. Likewise I do not answer when irritated. Is your power back on? Hope any damage was minimal.
Machka the dream cabin pic, sign me up!
Tracey ditto Vickie's question about a "public" phone on the floor you can call into to talk to your mother, one that the patients cannot call out from? Wonder if any of the cell phone vendors have a phone that can only receive not make calls?
Lisa are there any alternative pain management options for that pre-surgery week? You can't be in good shape for an operation when you are worn out from lack of sleep due a week's agony. I am in total awe of your (and KJs and Katla's and everyone else's) home improvement skills. Neither Joe nor I have any.
Mary on the southern route to AZ, safe travels!
Janetr welcome ggs Matthew Grayson. Hope you can travel to cuddle him soon. Snow in Amarillo mid-October? :noway: Weather gets stranger every year.
pip any break in sight from all that OT?
Sharon, the "Lighter" part of the signoff was from Lisa "...gets me right in my lazy part" me too!
Michele was that <Snicker> snack sized?
Welcome Sue (Isronson). Please let us know where you are so we can keep you straight from SueBDew in TX and Sue in WA.
Welcome burryc1.
Welcome lacatgirl Ditto Lisa. try saying "NOW I'm going to do something to make me feel good." It can be anything, a 5 minute Leslie Sansome walk, prep some raw veggies for a snack, meditate for 5 minutes, anything. Baby steps. Tomorrow is too far away, all we have is NOW.
Whew, finally caught up.
Today was pastor's 40th anniversary of shepherding the same small, rural congregation. Special music, special messages from 5 past church secretaries and others, a hilarious poem and slide show from current secretary and of course, tons of food. The "half" piece of carrot cake I ate put me into sugar zombieland, had to take a nap soon as I got home. Hard to make steps while sleeping the day away, thank goodness for Leslie Sansome. Two 15 minute miles and I'm within 62 steps of goal. We won't talk about being under calorie allotment for the day...

Monday ---
- My last day of classes for a little while. But I've still got 2 projects due next week, so I'm going to be busy!!
- No more walking between uni and work for a while ... but today I got 4.5 km of walking in, and 3.7 km of that was wearing a heavy backpack. I'll have to substitute it with either stair climbing or running.
- My husband's last day of Rehab for a little while. We've got a meeting later this week with "everyone" to discuss what happens next. We don't do anything anymore without approval.
- And just a generally busy day. Mondays are like that. Me figuring out where I left off at work on Friday. Me answering emails from various members of my husband's medical team. Me sending emails to various members of my husband's medical team. Me arranging appointments with various members of my husband's medical team. Me sorting out what I've got to do next with my uni work. Me taking care of a quick project or two at work. Me figuring out what I've got to do with our cycling club, bills, admin stuff, other appointments, etc. etc. etc.
Machka in Oz4 - My last day of classes for a little while. But I've still got 2 projects due next week, so I'm going to be busy!!

Regarding logging ... I've started doing that again.
With exercise, I usually choose the light, low, slow options. So, for example, according to Strava, I usually walk at "Walking, 10.5 mins per km, brisk pace" but instead of choosing that one, I choose "Walking, 12.5 mins per km, mod. pace". It's not much of a difference but it is a bit.
And with eating, I either go with a number as exact as I can get it or more. I looked a particular type of almonds up today and there were three almost identical choices but each had a slightly different calorie amount. I chose the one with the highest amount.
The thing is, the body doesn't care what we've chosen. We can choose whatever foods and calorie amounts we want, and perhaps fudge things a little so that we can close our diaries and be within our calorie limits. But the body knows exactly how many calories we've consumed and how many calories we've burned. So we might as well try to record it as exactly as possible.

As for motivation ...

Morning all... waiting on my cell phone photos to finish uploading, figured I'd stop in quick before I get them pushed up to the blog and then begin my work day. We got soooo much done yesterday at the mountain house, but will still be moving into a construction zone. I've made my peace with that.
Excited and vaguely apprehensive about the move, but so looking forward to being there on the spot, where I can do the small things, instead of a half hour drive each way in order to accomplish anything. And, every time I get achy and a little bummed that I'm moving AGAIN, that tiny, shiny little voice in my head says, "Yes, but this is the last time. This is the forever place you've been searching for all these years..." and I grin again and push through.
Got the address officially changed with the post office yesterday. Today is all the other address changes (banking, credit cards, insurances, etc.) and then I'll check into getting the address changed on my driver's license. I may let that change wait until I come back from my next business trip - I leave on Wednesday, nine days from now for a week in El Paso and Van Horn, Texas.
Happy Monday, all...
Love y'all,
Lisa in Arkansas4 -
We will be spending some time in Vietnam in the future and I wonder if someone has travelled there. I looked up "Pho" on myfitness pal and what I saw was that some versions come in at 475 calories! That would be more than I eat at any meal when trying to be more healthy. I'm sure it varies greatly from restaurant to restaurant. I have been advised to not eat any raw vegetables nor fruit without peels, so this could be challenging for this older westerner. I have been coping with some side effects from live Typhoid vaccine and HepAandB Combo vaccines (series of 3). The HepA&B effects include sudden fatigue, and luckily reduced appetite. I've lost between 3-4 lbs this first week and that's a good start. Logging constantly. Walks only 4 days out of 7, as I tweaked my back Friday, but it's finally better today. The heat finally broke in the mid-Atlantic. Great walking weather now! Need to take advantage.4

Good morning all! Happy Monday! Well, I had the weekend off and guess what?! I was sick! Boo! Oddly enough, earlier in the week as I was making my to do list of what needed to get done over the weekend (it wasn't a lot, just normal stuff) I thought to myself "Ugh. The only way I am going to have time to just sit and do nothing is if I am sick or dead!" I guess I should be thankful that sick was the way I ended up spending the weekend? lol Was out for the count on Saturday, after spending all of Friday night in the bathroom. Yesterday, I woke up feeling just a little woozy, but got the grocery shopping and house cleaning done. I attempted to put together a kiddie picnic table, but ran out of strength (and got a blister on my hand) half way through. I will finish that tonight while Trentin is doing his homework.
In the meantime, it is Monday and Pajama Day at my house! Yea! THAT worked out in my favor! I woke up this morning with my alarm thinking "S**t! 5:30 comes waaaaay too early!" then I remembered that I get to wear pajamas all day and do pillowy, camp out-y, comfy things with the kids all day. That plus coffee reassures me that I will be fine today!
Janet Matthew Grayson What a doll baby! He is gorgeous! Congratulations!
Mary- Sounds like you are headed south in a round a bout way! Safe travels! Is Shep with you?
Lisa- So excited for you as you prepare to move into the mountain house! I know you will be working on your home while you are living there; but I really think it will be so much easier doing that. You are a force to be reckoned with!
Pip- I have to echo what the others have said about Lenny and your Kirby! From what we know of them, two extraordinary men who have been lucky/smart enough to share your life. You have spoken of how fortunate you have been to have them both in your life; but I think Kirby's respect for Lenny's life/death speaks volumes of his respect and love for you! Hugs to you both!
Barbie- Wise words from you (your soapbox) and for you (your dance class friend)! I think we all need a reminder from time to time when we are healing or overcoming an illness that we have come a long way toward good health. Reading your posts as you have been recovering is wonderful to see the strides you have made to get better!
Heather- Your move is around the corner! I just feel it! Your dedication to yourself and your family with your daily/weekly habits is so inspirational. Every thing you do for yourself is making you a better person for your family. You live a life of dedication and intention. It seems every choice you make has a purpose. I love that!
Karen VA- Okay, I am not throwing this in your face; but I was not quite three when men first landed on the moon. It just stunned me to read that you were fifteen (and was it Katla that was twenty?) I think of you all as friends of my own age and sit here in awe of where you are in your lives compared to mine. I still feel like the crazy, unorganized girl with a chaotic life. Trying to be in control of something, but not quite there yet. I think I needed the reminder that some of the rest of you have had a little more time to get things a little more under control. Gives me hope. I do wish I could remember that day, however.
New girls- Welcome! So much support and advice from all of these ladies! Come often! The more the merrier!
Rori-Thinking of you and your hubby! Sending you much love as you take each day as it comes. So happy you have a vacation time planned. Toes in the sand is a great medicine!
Rebecca- Love the little van! I am positive driving like that would be a challenge for me! lol
Love and hugs to everyone! Kiddos will be here soon and I have to get my breakfast ready! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -

Hi! I am new to the group and returned to MFP after a few years off. I am part of the Daily Burn community and have been fairly consistent with my workouts and have recently made some positive changes in my diet. This new commitment to my health has brought me positive results, so my (late) October resolution is to keep it up!
Exercise: 5 days/week for 30 minutes (at least)
Diet: cut out alcohol (only have 1-2 drinks a week), stay committed to diet changes
MFP: keep logging in!
Hope everyone's month is going well :-)

For kirby come into my life at the time he did was a true blessing. I made him aware of what I was gong through and what Lenny died of. He didn’t have a problem with it and even took me to my shrink appointments and waited outside. He is a true gem6 -

Whereas I feel ... if I stopped being busy, everything would fall apart. Mainly me ... I would fall apart. The "busy" is helping me to keep some measure of sanity and control.
I'm in a brain injury carer group and the leader tried to get us to do a short "mindfulness" exercise in last week's meeting. I couldn't do it. I went through the motions, but just couldn't relax. I felt like if I took my mind completely off all the things I need to do for just one second, the whole thing would unravel. I've gotten to the point now where I can't even imagine truly relaxing.
Quite possibly why I wake up in the mornings feeling like I've run a marathon and why my teeth are cracking.
Maybe one day I'll feel like it is OK to stop being busy for a day and just relax.

Kelly- Thanks! Shep is here with us! We definitely prefer to put on extra miles rather than to drive through bad weather! Sunny and 37° today!

For very different and much more positive reasons, I understand. I hope that day comes for you when you're ready for it to be there. I think of you, and I think we all do, more often than you know. No advice, just support.

oh lordy, so i called about the money supposed to be rolled over into my IRA and because they said paperwork wasnt filled correctly the gave me forced pay out which i did not want, i wanted straight rollover into IRA so no penalties,,,, ughhh rediculous... all I have to say is they better straighten it out on there end...3
-
Allie - You should still be able to roll it into a qualified fund without penalty. When hub changed jobs they couldn’t do a direct rollover so it came to us (a check left on the front porch in an overnight mailing envelope!!) and we just mailed the check on to his new qualifying fund. If we had cashed and/or deposited it, they said penalties could apply.

Allie - good thing you checked on it, keep after them to correct it ASAP. The bank flubbed up a direct rollover for me a couple years ago and I got a surprise letter and bill from the IRS. They did get it corrected with the IRS after much frustration and anguish on my part.
And like Okie advises, make sure the new account is identified as an IRA.
Good luck!

Funny. That gorgeous picture reminded me of my baby son. Then your story reminded me of being quite surprised, when he was born, to see him. Pregnant for nine months. Loads of scans. Still surprised. I remember saying ‘oh, hello!’ Like he was a welcome but unexpected guest.. 😂
Congratulations to your whole family. 💕

Janet - Beautiful new great grandson. What a heartwarming post by your grandson.
Barbara - Phone calls at the nursing home. I have emailed them to ask if it's possible for me to call her. I have already checked into cell phones and there isn't a way to block outgoing calls. I don't know if she could actually use one anyway. I love Leslie Sansone walks, they have saved me with the crappy weather of late. Last night was the first time in 3 weeks it was nice enough to get outside for a walk!
Machka - I do the same with my calorie counts both exercise burned and calories consumed. I am the same way with being able to relax when I have a lot going on. Hopefully things settle for you soon so you can relax even for half an hour.
Kelly - I had to chuckle at your comment about "sick or dead". That's one of those "careful what you wish for" moments.
I was so excited to get outside for a walk last night. I was fearing that we weren't going to get a Fall at all. It was -8 when I woke yesterday morning and +8 when I got out for a walk last night at 730! It was so nice, a little creepy walking around in the dark though. LOL
Managed to get some crafting done yesterday, still have a lot more to get done before next Friday. Hubby needs to step up his game, I am fearful I won't have enough stock for a 3 day event.

Ladies,
While on my walk yesterday I ran into my neighbor - in his 60's riding a bicycle, after hip surgery 3 weeks ago. I asked him if he was doing physical therapy. He told me the exercises he had to do to regain strength in the hip area..... they were EXACTLY the ones I do every day or two with 11 lb. ankle weights, only he did them in bed without weights and with assistance of course.
He said our hip ball and socket is held in place by muscles, nothing "clicks" in. I guess I always knew that but this conversation with him really made it hit home.
Here's a photo of the outdoor carpeting DH stapled to the deck yesterday. The wood was icy all around it but the semi-porous carpeting works like a dream. Similar carpeting on the prior deck lasted for years - we'd take it up in the summer and reattach when the cold fall mornings started up again.

Janetr - Many, many congratulations on your GGS. How wonderful! He looks adorable! I wonder if I will ever get to see a great grandchild. Most likely not. But you never know.
Well, I have had a very busy and anxious day, after my post about hating to be busy. I can do busy, just not for long.
My DH said it was best to do nothing. I disagreed.
First I emailed the removal company as to whether the date was still available. NO. :noway: It had gone.
OK, they suggested one the following week.
I emailed our solicitors, the seller's agent and our agent.
Solicitor got the message. Said she'd get back to me.
Our agent said he would do his best. Turned out he got an agreement, but was still working on the original date! I was NOT pleased. Told him what's what.
Seller's agent came back to say our sellers and their sellers have agreed our new date. So now it's just our buyer who has to get on board. Their mortgage offer is there in fax, but the solicitors have to have a physical copy for exchange. Exchange happens before completion .
I emailed our removal company asking them to keep the date open for another day as we are nearly all agreed. Hope they can.
We have to have a two day slot so the removal company can pack up most of our 6 bed house the day before.
Here's hoping.
I decided that at this stage I do this kind of pushing and coordination better than DH. I was very stressed, but I would be worse stressed if I left it to him. It's like juggling.
Barbara - Good start! One little success breeds another.
KJ - Hope you feel MUCH better soon. I will accept the compliment you gave me. I am very much a work in progress, but at least I feel I am progressing. Never to old to change.
Machka - Have you read 10% Happier, and Meditation for Fidgety Sceptics. One thing that has helped me when I find I am just running through anxious thoughts and feel I can't let go is to use Dan Harris's question. "Is this helping? " The answer is nearly always a resounding NO. I find it helps to make a list and have it in black and white so I am reassured I won't forget anything. I write down what I need to do tomorrow before I go to sleep. Then I say, "Worry isn't helping" and I practice the breathing techniques he recommends. They are really, really simple and even one minute helps. I do several one or two minute sessions a day and always when I can't sleep. It doesn't matter if it doesn't work, but I have got better at it.
