I'm in for November too. I'm up to 37 days now and planning on staying sober indefinitely.

@shortchange1 that is an impressive AF number. Good luck on your long term goal.0

8th day of AF.
I hear a lot of people say they don't like keeping track of days they are not drinking. I happen to enjoy it. It gives me comfort to know that I am aware of my consumption.
Just like any other task you have to be aware of....this just happens to be drinking less.
My plan is to go 20 days AF and then a planned controlled drink or two on Nov.17th.
Less alcohol has really helped with my workouts to. Especially my ab workouts. Last Winter I struggled with having a tummy that looked like a new mommy tummy. Now I have a flat stomach. 😊

@saracantthink How did you go?
Just remember, every try makes the next try easier.0 -
Well i did well this weekend. Only drank Friday and Saturday and was able to moderate-so I am extremely happy. I am going to keep this approach through November (only drinking Friday and Saturday) and reassess at the end of the month.
Good luck to all on your individual goals regarding alcohol3 -

@pjmfitforme Awesome! All the best.
I'm going to a pub today for Melbourne Cup Day. Not going to drink, and looking forward to it.3 -
Congratulations @shortchange1 That is wonderful!
@MissMay I can see the appeal of counting the days. That's awesome that you are noticing a difference in your abs/ab workouts! Whenever my weight creeps up, it all seems to go to my belly now.
Hope you enjoyed the pub @Orphia! That would be difficult for me. Did you have something instead?
I may need to allow myself to drink beverages with calories if I am going to stay AF. When I only have water while others are drinking, I seem to end up having a drink. Not drinking is hard!
And . . . I am restarting. Day 1 AF for me.5 -
Good on you!!.. well do what we can to support you @RunRachelleRun1
-
Thanks, @RunRachelleRun !
I enjoyed the pub. My friends didn't comment when I ordered a bitters, lime, and lemon, and it was only later the topic came up that I've gone 9 months AF, and they were impressed, so it was nice.
Yes, I had 3 bitters, lime, and lemon. Then I didn't want to use up any more calories so I had sparkling water.
I also won $45 on a $2 bet, so I was happy with that! (Melbourne Cup Day is the one day I bet, as it's a tradition my friends have.)
It's lovely to come home and not feel frazzled after Cup Day from too much beer, for the first time in 17 years. Looking forward to tomorrow morning with no hangover or headache too!4 -

Good for you! I'm on my 12th or 20th restart. Today is Day 3. I don't moderate well so abstinence is the way to go for me right now. Yes, I think indulging in yummy beverages as long as staying within daily calorie limit is a good idea. Think I'll try Orphia's bitters with lime & lemon.
Hang in there, you can do this!3 -

Restarting again, too! I moderate well M-Th, but F/S/S KICK MY BUTT!!! I am seriously thinking about finding a job working weekends and off during the week. I don't drink alone, so I could get my weekend stuff done on Wednesday and stay more on track during the weekend.
Just a thought...5 -

@Beka3695 you really are on the right path, even though it may have a few speed bumps that your finding difficult to get over.
For some of us this ebb and flow of the moderation takes some time. I can't say how long yours will be, because we are all different.
I know mine took a few years. I would want to quit the next day after a massive binge. It would be ok for a few days and then I would do it again. Mind set...time and control did not happen over night. No one ever starts drinking by consuming a 12 pack their first time. So why should cutting down be any easier?
I commend you and know your on your right path. Stay strong.

Nice to see more joining in..
It's been 3.5 weeks today since my last drink.
I am very pleased but havent wanted to speak incase I mess it up. I'm going a moment at a time. I still have the urge but I think of the consequences and the thought of telling u guys too.. lol is deterring me.
now I'm back here , it's working good..
I luv reading everyones experiences too , many thanks for all that contribute whether old or current, it makes it very interesting.
Anyhow.. have a good rest of the week everyone, stay strong to your goals, the reward is great!!..
Cheers for now..ox6 -
Made it through day one, on to day two!!6

Had a good week last week but drank on the weekend. Not as much as I normally do, but more than I was planning to. Started fresh Monday so am on day 3 and don't plan on drinking tonight. I know I won't because I have too much to do! So that is key - keeping busy.
I finally finished This Naked Mind after trying to get through it three times. I love the mindset of seeing quitting drinking as a beautiful opportunity, as freedom, rather than a sacrifice. It gives me hope. I know I am still going to struggle with moments (or hours) of feeling like I'm missing out. But holding on to the notion of how beautiful life can be without alcohol really helps.
Another thing that has helped these last few days is the podcast Recovery Elevator. I listen to it when I wake up, when I'm commuting to work, while cleaning and before bed. Has anyone else heard of it? I strongly recommend it.
Wishing you all a beautiful day.7 -
Happy 7th day of November! Not much new to report from me, I'm sort of plugging along with mindful moderation. It doesn't feel like it's really something I have to put as much focus on anymore, which is a good thing. Because of that, I have had some days where I drank that I didn't intend to, one day (my birthday) that I probably drank more than I should have, but I've also had days where would have been "planned" drinking days that I didn't opt to imbibe. And that includes election night returns - tea sounded way better than alcohol and that's saying something!

Please add me. I’m on my 3rd day of sobriety and think this thread will benefit me immensely.4
