@MegaMooseEsq That is a serious race list for 2019! I had to Google neo-pagenism. Pretty cool, nothing I'd ever heard of. We recently joined the Catholic Church. DH does Masons, and is studying, I think Hinduism. He's on this enlightenment path. I think my true nature is nothing I've found yet. Maybe budhism. My thing is listening for truth. I dont know what i am or where i belong.
I don't buy gifts either. I can always admit to having my Christmas shopping done early. Yay! On the bonus!
Merry Christmas y'all!3 -

@PastorVincent aren't you up a little late? Santa won't come if he knows your awake.
You set cookies out? Who sets cookies out? Thats too cute. My poor kids weren't taught Santa and were the ones that ruined it for all the other kids in kindergarten. I got a phone call. The first of many actually.
What kind of cookies do you set out?5 -
My daughter came out to run with me today! I give her the option of running with me pretty regularly but she rarely takes me up on it. She asked if she could run some races with me and I told her yes, of course, but she has to train some. So, today she decided to come out. We only did 1.5 miles and she had a tough time, but she did it! Hopefully she's motivated to run some more. I'd love it if she did some races with me!

We told our son as he was growing up that Santa was a make-believe game so that he would pretend when around others, but he always knew the truth. So we did not do the whole cookie thing. But I would guess most parents told their kids that Santa would love whatever cookie was their favorite.4 -
No run today, probably no run tomorrow. Spent most of the night playing Catan and Uno spin with wife and son.1
-
My kids definitely do Santa. The older one can't keep a secret to save his life so once the truth is out for him I expect we will be done. Although with my family as long as you paid lip service to Santa you got a stocking.
My family is German so we do a couple of gifts Christmas Eve in keeping with German tradition. We do them before Church, which was a good call since Ian fell asleep halfway through the sermon. Rory didn't set anyone's hair on fire so it was a success.
I'll most likely run tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be a bit milder than today and it's just the 4 of us with no obligations except cooking for ourselves.
Chris is still reading to Rory. Everything is wrapped already. Have to tie a bow on the new TV, stuff the stockings, strain the cheese (making ricotta for dessert tomorrow) and put together the breakfast casserole. I'm ready for bed already.7 -

This is pretty much what we've done. As a Jesus-follower I just didn't want to send my kids mixed messages about what we're celebrating. But we also want to respect others' desire to celebrate their way. And although I'm not thrilled about all the presents and STUFF associated with Christmas today, I don't want to miss the opportunity to show love to my family in a way that they'll understand. Plus generosity is supposed to be part of who I am, after all!
This year I also figured out that to me, Christmas is kind of like the excitement at the start line of a marathon. True, there's a long way to go before this thing is finished, but just getting to the start line is worth celebrating So I make, and eat, the cookies. And I'm not logging them today!6 -
This will be our first Christmas morning in our home, alone. Every other year we have traveled to see family. Also our first Christmas in our new home. We have some friends coming for dinner but that will not be till later. The rest of our family is 100s of miles away.
So this morning will be a big fancy breakfast with eggs and sausage and such. It will be light this year on gifts, all of our money went into the house, but our 15 year old son will be getting a workbench for the garage. He is totally in to car mechanics so he will love that. He has been talking about scrouging wood to build one...
Our church does "Christmas Eve-Eve" dinner and service. We find it works out much better for everyone. We celebrate Christ, whose birth we are honoring first, and then move on to family time. Plus turns the holiday into three days instead of two which makes it easier to get everything in.7 -
I was the kid who questioned everything, including Santa, from a very young age. I never spoiled it for anyone else though. Apparently, I am a nice person.
I woke up at 4:35 to two gunshots then sirens. Can't get back to sleep so made some coffee. I wanted to go for a run but seeing as our 'hood usually does fireworks, not gunshots I'm a little freaked out. I am also hoping it was just someone firing into the air and not a murder/suicide. There was one yesterday in another part of Phoenix.5 -

Merry Christmas y'all!
I don't plan on doing all of those races in 2019, but a lot is going to depend on how I like the first ESTRS (Endless Summer Trail Run Series) in May. That will be my first trail race and if I really like it I'll drop some of the street races in favor of more trail races. My husband really enjoys Catholic services but his attendance goes in fits and starts. Listening for truth is definitely something all of us could do more of!PastorVincent wrote: »This will be our first Christmas morning in our home, alone. First Christmas in new house, hooray! I have been finding all the firsts, big and little, to be a lot of fun. First mail delivered in my name, first snow shoveled, first run around X lake, etc. When I was a kid my mom used to have us open one present each on the winter solstice and then one present a night leading up to Christmas - I always liked that. Usually we'd open gifts from distant aunts and uncles and then talk to them on the phone, so both gifts and family got some time to breathe.
I'm up early because I woke up the dog (day two of night-time kenneling and no messes yet!) when I got up to use the restroom and figured I might as well get up and going. I'm hoping to talk Chris into making us omelettes later - fingers crossed!6 -

December Total: 133k
December Goal: 100k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for Rudolph -- I KNOW Santa and Rudolph come, because the goodies I set out for them are always gone in the morning. Santa would usually write a short thank-you note, as well.
Both Santa and I are taking a scheduled rest day today.

@Tramboman I had no idea the carrots were for Rudolph! I’m glad you mentioned that.
@sarahthes it’s nice to see those cute little cookies and not an American serving of sugar there! We’re German too, and always did the one gift on the eve. I had no idea that was a cultural tradition. I figured it was a way to shut the kids up.
We have no plans today. We skipped mass last night. I wanted to go at 10, do at 7 so it seems that neither one of us made a decision or commitment. 10 am this morning it is then.
End of month question?
What awesome swag did you get this year? And how is it adding value to your life?
———. <—ETA gah so annoying that I can’t make this work. Help! I need a teenager/nerd.
If no one minds, I’ll set us up for January? Don’t run away @garygse, maybe we three can rotate?3 -
Merry Christmas however you all decide to spend the day.1

@Elise4270 Yes, in Germany presents with family are the night before. And church squeezed in on Christmas Eve as well (and then my grandparents also always went on Christmas morning but our family was hit or miss). The cookies are actually from my husband's family, where the German is quite a few more generations removed - but the cookies are German.
Month end question: I got an extra pair of wool running socks, a hydration backpack, and some extra base layer stuff. We also got an InstantPot and a tv for the boys' room.
The running stuff is obvious. Running brings value to my life and improves my health. And having additional tools for running gives me fewer excuses when I'm not feeling it.
The InstantPot will help to find us more time in the day the same way most of our cooking gadgets do. Plus, geeking out over kitchen gadgets is something my hubby and I do together.
The new TV gives us some time back, primarily my husband's main source of downtime (video games).2 -
2019 is taking commitments!!!

My MIL is from Germany and we always open gifts with that part of the family on the 24th. Then we open all the rest on the morning of the 25th!
My favorite cookie story is that one year we set them out and then after it sounded like the kids were asleep I went out to eat the cookies and they were gone. Our dog at the time apparently was smarter than we were that year. We also put out carrots for the reindeer as well. My current dog would probably go for those as well!
I had a nice little run this morning. I downloaded the Nike Run app and listened to the "Thankful Run". It was really good!
I am thankful for all of you runners in this challenge who have inspired me over the past 4 years of running. This is where I learned about a holiday running streak, and where I have learned so much else about running (and lots of other stuff as well! )

Today is my 33rd anniversary. FYI, if you are planning a wedding, I don't recommend Dec 24th. We tend to forget it is our anniversary because we are so busy with Christmas stuff. When our kids were little we would completely forget it.

Happy anniversary! I know all about bad days to get married, my husband and I have our anniversary on the day Elvis died, and we live in Memphis. You can forget about hotel or restaurant reservations for our anniversary!
Wow, I wouldn't even know what day he died!1
