The idea behind DRY January isn’t calorie counting - it’s cutting out all alcohol COMPLETELY. For each individual’s own reasons.5 -
I did dry January two years ago and kept going, just about to celebrate 2 years off the booze. I swapped beer for biscuits, it’s the hand to mouth routine I haven’t broken, same with giving up smoking four years ago made me drink and eat more. and haven’t lost weight as a consequence, but I’m hoping to really start calorie counting by joining here and seeing progress. I used to be a heavy drinker so it’s a huge amount of calories saved by not having booze! Wish me luck!10

I'm in. I actually like who I am better when I'm not drinking. And I have a few big events in January where I'd love to not drink through them.7

I'm in for a Dry January. This will be my fifth consecutive one. Of course, all the other months of the year I've been "dry" too.
No good comes to me from alcohol. I'm a better person, healthier in general, and weight is much easier to maintain without alcohol.
I literally cannot think of one good reason to drink alcohol. Not one.

I'm so in! After all of the wine from Christmas Eve to now, have never felt more bloated, sluggish, and overall just crappy and not proud of myself. My biggest downfall is wanting wine at night when I'm watching movies with my husband. I'm going to try to swap it out for different flavored sparkling waters. Wish me luck! Let's all do this together!6

Gin and Vodka have calories. around 65 or so for a one ounce shot...most people use 2 ounces or more in a drink...so yeah, it has calories.2 -

Vino / esp red vino is my biggest weakness. My family owns bars, my friends own bars - I get free drinks next to my work place—- it was really adding up. It’s around me socially all the time. Luck needed here too! Happy to see so much positivity in these posts though for a healthy change in January2 -
January 1!1

Congrats on your efforts, but you do need to realize that calories come from other foods too. Any excess of calories will lead to weight gain. Any reduction below your recommended intake will lead to weight loss.3 -

Problem is, alcohol crowds out nutrition. When in a calorie deficit, some people barely have enough calories allowed to get basic nutrition needs met.
Then there is always the drunk munchies and the hangover greasy breakfast to sop it all up/recover.
In contrast, I ate a great supper last night and had a snack and some sparkling cider and woke up at 5AM ready to face the new year with health and joy and peace.5 -
I’m doing Whole 30 so no alcohol for me. Reset for January.2

I started weaning off on Christmas, it is rough. Going to keep at it though.

All alcohol has calories.2 -

I am 45 days today Alcohol Free! And will continue with Dry January. I set out on a goal hoping to make it through the holidays, and especially NodrinkDecember, and now I want to do more. I read This Naked Mind and it really helped me change my mindset. I wanted to do this to finally get back to losing again but it's become much more.
First couple of days of not drinking I noticed weight loss, and it's just continued. So many calories in drinking if you aren't careful with it, so now I am back on a losing streak. Been 50 days logged in to MFP. Anyone who wants to add me feel free!
Good luck to you and everyone else seeking a dry January!!5 -
I’m in! Excited to see the changes in how I feel and look! I’m hoping to make this longer than just a month!1

My last time drinking was Dec 13 on my birthday. I decided to do an experiment and try for a full year. I know when I drink it's harder for me to lose just because I get super hungry and very sloth like the next day. So far good with almost three weeks in. Feeling better than I have in a long time3
