Daily calories are too much!! HELP!

So I'm new to MFP. I have lost about 20lbs on my own, but I wanted to try this out since my friends tried it and said it was great! But the daily calories I was given are too much! After I entered my food for the day, a message came up saying it won't be logged cause I ate too little. How do I fix it?

How many calories are you eating?
What calorie goal does MFP give you that you think is too much?5 -
How do you know they are too much?
The calorie target is based on the stats you enter, your activity level and the rate of loss you chose. Meaning if you disagree with the recommendation, it’s because of your own inputs deriving it.

If you're getting that message, it's not because the calories given are too much. It's because the calories you've logged are too few to support good health and nutrition as you lose.
First, be sure you are logging correctly. Weigh portions (food scale, not measuring cups) and ensure the entries you are using are correct. Generic and homemade entries are user submitted and can be wildly inaccurate.
Assuming you really are eating that little, the answer is simple. Eat more. Peanut butter, ice cream, full fat dairy, etc. It's easy to increase calories without adding a lot of food bulk.25 -
Are you weighing your food to insure you are actually eating the amount of calories you think you are?
Most people really stink at eyeballing portions.17 -
My calories for the day are 1900, but after I logged what I had eaten, I still had a 1000 calorie deficit.9

Are you using a food scale?3 -
Yea I am, but for things like Lettuce (leafy light veggies) , I measure in handfuls.4

So, peanut butter, cooking oils, salad dressings, etc, are all being weighed? Great!
If you can’t eat enough calories, eat things that are higher calories. Peanut butter, nuts, full-fat dairy, etc.11 -

What are your stats? How much weight are you trying to lose? What activity level did you choose?5 -

The calorie goal that MFP gives you already includes your deficit - you are supposed to eat to your goal, not significantly under it. Take a look at the thread linked from cmriverside.8 -

I chose active, since I go to university every week day and I walk there (5km walk). I'm trying to get from 234lbs to 170lbs. And calories are 1900.3 -

Thanks for the information, I don't use salad dressing, except for lemon juice, which I logged as well.

Can you open your diary? What are you eating that 900 cals is keeping you full?5 -
I had 1 cup of non- fat Greek Yoghurt for breakfast.
A salad with 4eggs, half a tomato and Cucumber, Lettuce and lemon juice for lunch.
And boiled mix veg and pan fried chicken breast for dinner.
I have been on the bigger side my whole life, but ive been eating healthy for the last couple of years and all I've lost is 20lbs. And with my activeness I still can't seem to shake it. I am 5ft 10, so quite tall too.7 -

But are you weighing all solid foods with a food scale?9 -

How long have you been eating this way? Consistently, meaning weeks/months. No cheat days? Special occasions? Unlogged meals/days?
If you aren't losing weight, you definitely are not consistently averaging 900 calories per day, or even close to it.12 -

We’re not picking on you. We really want you to succeed, hence all the questions.
I’m 5’9, 190, so I know you can lose on 1900 calories, because I can too.
Nearly 100% of the time, if someone isn’t losing weight, it’s a logging issue. That’s why everyone is trying to dial that in.20 -

It's actually the best problem to have because it's so simple to fix.23 -
I’m on my phone or I’d link the “so you dont use a food scale” and the “how I stopped kidding myself” threads.
They have some great illustrations to give you some ideas on what you can modify.0 -

Consistently the last 2 weeks I havent deviated at all, but before that I would have fast food about 2 times a month. Also I was eating bread up until 3 weeks ago, then I cut it out since I found out it was making me sick (I have a light wheat allergy)1 -

I appreciate it, all the questions will help me find where I'm going wrong. I genuinely want to loose the weight and Im willing to accept all the constructive criticism that comes my way.

Fast food doesn’t prevent you from losing weight. With 1900 calories as a goal, you should be able losing weight eating up to that amount even if it includes fast food, if logging accurately.
If it’s only been a couple weeks you likely need to give it longer to see a change but you really need to focus on logging accurately and eating the right number of calories which is more important for weight loss than the right type of food.

Truth. I save 200-300 calories for ice cream or chocolate every night. I weigh it out and savor it. If I tried to cut out all my favorite foods, I would freak out and binge.16
