Thank you for that reminder. Easier said or "read" than done though. It is the core beliefs we hold about ourselves that need to be challenged as to whether they are true or not true and then do the work to change those messages. For some of us it is sooner than later, but for others of us it is better late than never!!
It is through sharing our experiences that can help make it better for another and perhaps their healing can start "sooner" than later.
For me it IS beginning to get better thankfully.
I hope everyone has a good day, or can at least find a little wee bit of good in today!4 -

I can really only estimate, but you got me curious. 578 days for me is probably in the 300,000 calorie range. Much more if you include the domino effect - late plates of cheese nachos I generally only had after drinking and other snacks.9 -
GREAT JOB! You know I think the same way. Today is one year and I feel on shaky ground some. I think these dates of accomplishment seem to call to us to drink. I don't know if it is the same there... It won't be a celebration tomorrow, if I drink today. So for a few days, I am off my diet plan. It is ok. I have made it!! I am so much happier for it!![/quote]

Congratulations on a year @salleewins ! That's such a great accomplishment! I also allow myself to slack on diet if I'm wanting to drink.. Definitely helps me.4

@Fitness327wk - the calorie count from not drinking is inspiring.. I appreciate all the great apps and other tools you share with the group!5

Welcome! Glad you like!1

Ok! So I am really focused on dry January! I almost had a hole in one at golf today. When you have a hole in one you buy drinks for everyone at the clubhouse and enjoy the party. It was coming very close and it was the FIRST time ever wishing it wouldn’t go in the hole! 😆 LOL!9

I am loving all the comments! @bigmanatee Thank you for the reminder of why I do not want to drink...how HORRIBLE I felt in the morning. The cotton mouth, racing heart, anxiety, worry over what I may have said the night before. I get all the same side effects. I just remembered about a year ago I woke up in the morning and my husband was in the guest room. He was FURIOUS with me.....and I had NO recollection of even having a fight. Friends, that is BAD. I never want to feel like that again. Right now on day 24, I am the happiest I have been in a long time. There is peace in my home and in my heart.11

For sure! I have exactly horrible symptoms all night when i drink. Worst is racing heartbeat- it is scary. Because you know your poor heart is trying to survive the toxicity. I am on day 23/24. One slip up. But totally happy in general. Good morning!6 -

You’re doing so well! Day 55?? Maybe rethink that birthday drink. It’s usually regretful feeling the day after. But if you choose to imbibe, enjoy every second. Life is an adventure! You’ve done so well.4 -

Congrats! One year of transformation, growth, honesty, courage,.... you are facing life without any fogginess, whether its good or bad. I’m really happy for you!!!6 -
@Norminv @Fitness327wk I was thinking of looking back over old bank statements that show purchases from the liquor store and nights out, etc. but I honestly don't want to know. I think it would make me nauseated to realize how much money I spent on booze.2

I know for me, I'm saving around $200 a month from not going to the breweries after work. And that's just from buying Pints.....I'm not even talking about filling up growlers, or grabbing a 6 pack from the store, or going downtown for some tequila shots and misc. drinks, etc. I never realized how much I was spending. I just knew that I wanted that drink and I guess I didn't care. Now I can put that money into savings or do something fun with it!
10 days AF! Doesn't seem like much compared to some of y'all, but, it's HUGE for me!13 -
I just looked at my credit card statement and estimated I saved about $400 on this day 56 in my dry spell9

Well it will be a story. You are changed.
Let's see. When I was drinking.,,,,, A typical day would be 4-25 oz 8% alcohol beer, pint of vodka and probably a bottle of wine. The vodka alone I believe is 1000 calories. AND that doesn't count the junk I ate while drinking. Wow. I am like a completely different person a year later. Night and day....Yikes embarrassing....8 -

Hi everyone! I've been MIA but still sober. Day #27 AF and Day #3 of no caffeine. Honestly, the caffeine is harder to give up because it's everywhere and so acceptable to have. I just can't for myself anymore. Glad to read everyone's progress as every day sober is so worth it more ways than one. I like how everyone has been calculating the savings. That's a good motivator!
I've come up with a funny thought of how to survive and take the stress off not drinking.
I can't have a drink. I can't have a bowl of glass for breakfast either.
Stay strong my friends!10 -
GOOD MORN to ALL!!
It is another DULL, grey day in the Hood! and I`m getting psyched for work...I had to move 2 jobs yesterday due to weather, but today is D-day for one...then I have a funeral to attend this aft...
My therapy light is definitely helping my mood, but it is not a miracle light. I still have to incorporate other healthy habits regularly and "force myself" to do things. At the same time, it is easier to do the regular things and to force myself to do the other things. My mood seems more even and I don`t seem to have the anger or saddness that I had...I think this is week 2. So I`m thinking it will only get better from here.
Happy, sober day!!!

Hello friends,Lorraine glad your light is working for you! I try to keep my mood up with positive thoughts, decent foods and exercise it works alot of the time but of course some days are just pissy no matter what, Mr.Sunshinez how the heck did you give up caffeine?!?! I don't think I could ever do that or tbh want to,I just love my coffee too much but congrats to you on working on your goals wishes for a super sober Saturday for us all!7

Keep working and stay in the moment. You’ll reach a point where the compulsion will just leave you. That dark lingering spirit will vanish.6

But, no caffeine? That’s just crazy man, crazy. ☕️5
