Nobody can ever replace him in that role, but you're quite possibly right. His whole work ethic was to embody his characters, and he refused to break out of his role through filming.

I miss when my dad would call me a "smart alec" when he was tired of my lip and I would giggle because I found the phrase "smart alec" funny. That would push him over the edge though and he'd go get the belt.9
