@HEGoddard0928 - so sorry to hear of your Mother in Law’s passing. It’s good that you were able to be there for Matt. Hugs to you.

@faebert - you were smart to get on here and look for support rather than just go to the chocolate. I have been struggling terribly with boredom since I’ve been off work. I have been crafting and organizing trying to avoid snacking.

Well the party girl was very happy and excited about the decorations and the shirt I made for her. The shirt is a bit big so she thought it was a dress and was very upset when we corrected her so we called it a dress.

I have eaten light all day because I wanted a treat tonight while I am babysitting. It is an Epicure dip that I love with tostitos. I even bought myself a small bottle of coke to go with it. I will wait for the kids to go to bed, find a good show and enjoy my treat. I also took advantage of my night and am doing laundry here!

The Grands are currently playing with Play-doh and have about 45 minutes before Michaela’s bedtime.
I have cleaned up again for Lauryn, I’m not sure how she’s going to work tomorrow her foot is pretty swollen.

I have a funny little tidbit to share. I think I’ve mentioned that Lauryn struggles with depression and anxiety. Her house is always a mess and she struggles terribly trying to keep up. When I came back this afternoon to watch the kids this evening I told Jonah to look in my purse for my phone charger. He says, “Grammie it’s so organized I can’t find anything. I’m used to living in a messy habitat”. Her main floor is pretty clean right now but I know it won’t be if I come back later in the week. I love her to death but I don’t know how she can live in such clutter! She is working on it and I’ve told her I will help in anyway I can, even if it means just being quiet.

1/26 Day 19 Too cold to do anything today so didn't even get out of the house. Found things to amuse myself with though so I didn't eat. Started embroidering some designs on my machine for a new quilt. Also did a bit of reading. After supper I have 200 cals left for a night snack but getting kind of late and may not need them. Haven't eaten supper yet. Should save them for tomorrow as we have a church pot luck.

I was a bit discouraged that I haven't been able to break below 142 (keep hovering at, then slipping back up a bit, then hovering at again over the month).

But today I took the 3 measurements needed for the US Military Body Fat % calculation website - they were down from Jan 2 - and the resulting calculation was 1.5% lower!!!!

I feel MUCH better now - the weight may be mostly plateauing over the past 2 weeks, but changes ARE happening!

If anyone else seems to be plateauing even though they are doing all the right things and logging properly, maybe that is the case with you too!

@HEGoddard0928 - so sorry for your loss. It sounds like it’s been a tough week but that you and Matt have pulled together and you’ve been a great support for him. I’m sure getting back into the work routine and his new job will be a good distraction. X

@snowflake1968 thank you. Definitely glad I came on here rather than go to the shops for chocolate! Glad Michaela liked her t-shirt/dress! Sounds like you’ve had a great time with the family x

So after my venting last night I managed to hold firm, closed out my diary with some calories to spare and have a nice early night.

The bf got in touch eventually. He assumed I had my kids this weekend due to some crossed wires but, to be honest, if he’d answered my messages from earlier in the day before 9pm then he could have found that out sooner and in enough time for us to see each other! I’m in two minds about whether to bother going down to see him. It’s a long journey and I’m a bit resentful that it’s often me making the effort. But equally if I stay home alone to make a point it probably won’t be fun for me! Have to make my mind up fairly early as if I go it won’t be for long - need to be back home at 5:30 for when the girls get back.

    Saturday goals recap
    - sleep in a little! Yay I never do this! ✅
    - Get kids ready to be collected by their dad at 8:30 ✅ just!
    - Warrior class 9:30 eek! ✅ yay! 💪
    - Read through obs lesson plan ❎
    - Laundry ✅
    - Bf if he’s around this weekend ❎
    - Stay mindful - re read 2019 goals. Remember how rubbish I felt last weekend. Make this the weekend where I achieve balance ✅✅✅ did it!!

    Sunday goals
    - morning run
    - Obs lesson plan
    - Bf place to hang out???
    - Check girls have done homework, pack bags etc
    - Re-read 2019 goals - stay mindful. Follow yesterday’s win with another good day to close out the weekend with positivity
    - Early night

@HEGoddard0928 So sorry for your loss... glad your job let you be there for hubby and family. I'm sure that meant so much to Matt.

@Snowflake1968 Have a good time enjoying your treats.

@Faebert Awesome on the Warrior class! And for thinking about your urge to splurge... I wasn't so good about that this evening, gave in to chocolate. Even though I wasn't hungry. Almost immediately, regretted it. Oops.

Weekly Weigh-In = When I'm active I eat back calories. My weaknesses: I love food... my sweet tooth, especially chocolate... portion control... FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Saturday a.m. is my MFP weigh-in logging day, and I peek occasionally other days. My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale. No goal dates set ~ this is not a diet but my lifestyle.

    Age 61, 5'4.5"
    GW #1: 150 in a livable way = It's. Not. A. Diet.
    GW #2: 145 normal BMI
    UG maintain: 145 - 150 [Need to be realistic! Revised from 140 - 145]

11/5/15 = 195.0 joined MFP with no real plan except It's. Not. A. Diet.
1/10/17 = 185.5 clearly not a regular on MFP / joined JFT, best group ever!

    06/03 = 177.5
    06/10 = 179.5 pre-10K spaghetti supper night before
06/17 = 179.5 numerous meals away from home, several occasions w/ alcohol, happy no gain
06/24 = 178.0 fluctuated during week, but ended ok
07/01 = 176.0 Yay!!! Achieved June goal to stay <180

08/19 = 173.5 had couple of high calorie days
    08/26 = 172.0 kind of a surprise
09/02/17 = 170.0 Woohoo! Officially overweight, not obese
    09/09 = 171.5 backsliding, ack!
09/16 = 169.5 yay, the middle number is a six!

10/28 = 164.5 very active week & watched CICO / reached October goal of 165
11/04 = 163.0 wow, really surprised at this, daily fluctuations very up and down this week

Holy Crow! I'm 333 posts behind! That's crazy! I love how much this board has blown up!

I'm sorry I've been MIA all week. To keep it short my MIL passed last night. It was a long process. My DH's family had to decide whether to take her off life support or not. They ended up doing it. So I've spent the last few days at the hospital with him and his family. It came to an end last night. And to be honest it was a good thing. My DH and I are comfortable with the fact that she has passed. She is up in glory and we know that. My job was really nice about the whole thing and let me take the whole week off. I am going back on Monday morning and the DH starts at his new store on Tuesday. He's really excited to go back and so am I. He needs to get out of the house and have a distraction.

I don't think I am going to go back and read all the posts. It would probably take me another week to read them all. Lol.

💝🙏 My Condolences dear one. Hugs and sincere hopes for peace for you, DH, and his family.
Missed you, and glad you're back. I love you.

Very late in the day to post goals, so I'll just recap quickly then post for tomorrow, which will be a busy day.

Recap 1/25 F ~ Brrr! Temp gauge in car on way to work said -6 (F)... blustery winds have us in a Wind Chill Advisory. Looks like we're stuck in cold pattern for at least a week. Ah well, winter in Wisconsin.
    1) Rest day / move hourly / stairs breaks at work / 5 somethings = Fitbit 7,785 steps, 250+ steps 13/14 & 37 floors :/
    2) Meals & snacks prelogged / stick w/ plan / net calories zero / 14c water = Net calories -112 :/ , sodium -398, sugar -8, fiber low :( , protein good & 14c water
    3) Evening: make veggie soup  / stop trying to get so much done & relax! It's Friday! :D I fell asleep sitting up on couch watching tv... now that's tired (for me)
    4) Unplug 9:30  / floss  / retainers  / NO alarm for Sat. (yay) but bed & tv off 11:00 latest

Recap 1/26 Sat. ~ No alarm & slept until 9 a.m. even after sleeping on couch prior evening... guess my restless nights this past week caught up with me.
    1) Didn't feel like walking on the treadmill, so I x-trained on weights & my home-version circuit training this morning.
    2) Meals & snacks prelogged, except the chocolate I ate tonight ~ ack! I was emo-eating, since I wasn't hungry, and felt guilty / crappy after. >:) Net calories RED. :s
    3) Wrapped all presents  hubby's birthday is Mon. & if we are both at work, won't see each other, so we will celebrate (very low-key) on Sun.
    4) Wrote out bday cards (hubby, 2 friends that have to be mailed early next week). Plus have cards for mom & sister ready for hubby to sign (Th & next Sun.)

Today we had record-tying low temp -23F (-30C), high temp of 4 and negative wind chill ~ next week will be more of the same, with a snowstorm Sunday night and most of Monday, and arctic temps to follow. Wondering if I might get a message from work to stay home Mon ~ my employer is pretty decent about that ~ although I would have to take PTO. At least I would be home for hubby's birthday.

    JF Sunday 1/27
    1) Bible class / church
    2) Errands: gas in car on way home / quick grocery stop for items needed since last trip / go w/ hubby to run his vehicles & get gas for snowblower (if we get predicted 6-12", we will need more gas)
    3) Treadmill 3 miles or Sweaty Betty
    4) Bake chocolate cake, make frosting & cook spaghetti meat sauce (family recipe) ~ Tradition! I've been making this birthday meal for hubby every single year since we started dating in 1995.
    5) DO NOT eat more than 1 portion / log all meals & snacks / 12c water
    6) Unplug 9:00 / floss / retainers / set/verify alarm, bed & tv off 10:30

    JFT Saturday
    I STAYED IN BED
    Completely exhausted physically, and emotionally.
My husband has been unbelievably supportive... Remember... He and I are separated for 9 yrs now
This event has caused him to communicate more, and even pray more. 😨
Anyway... My daughter explained what happened, and it was more physical than mental.
My beautiful daughter is in constant pain in her body with no relief as she has many health issues.
She has trouble eating, but she is over 400 pounds.
😢 This isn't easy to share. She didn't get this size from overeating, . Her story is too long to get into.
Briefly as I can, she was the tallest in her headstart, kindergarten, and 1st grade classes. She'd grow up,
then spread, grow up, then spread, until she stopped getting taller, but was getting wider.
She ate healthy, very seldom ate any junk food...she preferred the carrots, and I personally didn't believe in
giving my children sweets. It would be fruits and veggies. Jello, or yogurt was a sweet treat to them.
She's active and flexible. She was in her 300's in High School and could do a full split. Anyway she has
    been through a lot.
She said she's suffering in her body. She is one big pain, is how she describes it. She said her entire body
hurts and pills don't relieve it. The doctors won't get to the bottom of it and she's exhausted. She got
depressed because nothing she did would bring her comfort. So she didn't want to suffer any more.

Sooooo... Now she's been admitted to a behavioral Health Center by order of the magistrate and
there's nothing I can do to get the psychiatrist to call me so that I can get them to understand that
my daughter's case is more physical than mental.

I'm hanging in there, but my concern isn't about me... I'm fine... I'm still remembering the tasks at
hand. I'm still putting forth effort daily.
    😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
Keep Keeping On Ladies! You're all doing an awesome job on here and in your homes! I'm proud to call you
    Sisters! Love you💝🌹

Oh my goodness @cschmitz110515! That is unimaginably cold!! I don’t know how you even leave the house in those kind of conditions!

Was kind of thinking of changing my morning run plans due to drizzle out there but this puts it into some perspective!
    Stay warm and safe x

@maryrobinson40 - my heart breaks for your daughter. I hope she really gets the help she needs and that they truly listen to her.

@cschmitz110515 - the weather here was close to record breaking highs today. +8 Celsius I don’t envy you at all!

Ok I overindulged in my treats and now feel slightly sick to my stomach. I really need to remember this feeling and the next time I decide to have a treat 6 months from now cut it to about a 1/4!

    JFT 26 January

I will log on mfp and stay within calories DONE
I will do back exercises NO. I'm sore and started to worry I was making things worse, so decided to rest today
I will take a trip out and go shopping DONE. A few good gifts bought
I will take a photo of myself (I'm very rarely photo'd) in the hopes that one day it will be a "before" picture and a reminder that I don't want to go back there. DONE. UURGH!
I will sort out my clothes and tidy my bedroom NO TIDYING, did put out a few clothes. Find it hard to sort clothes when a lot are a size too small
I will NOT use the weekend as an excuse to derail my good intentions A GOOD DIETING DAY

    JFT 27 January

    I will log on mfp
Doing a Sunday roast, but will keep my aims in mind, and won't over indulge too much!
I will do some gentle back exercises
    Tidy the bedroom

Finding it hard to think of aims today, Sundays can be weird

    Scale goals
    End of 2017: 174.6
    End of 2018: 189.2
    Today: 189.4

    Ongoing plans/ideas behind the cut
    1. Go to Mac store and see if they can retrieve the files off the iMac. Look for an "ugly Christmas sweater" and a long-haired doll at thrift stores. Practice French braiding.
    2. Create vocabulary lists for each unit that come from the texts used: Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, Wes Moore, I Am Malala. Find a way to incorporate changing words from one part of speech to another. Students need to know how to review multiple sources and synthesize information in order to draw a conclusion. Regular: needs practice with quoting & paraphrasing sources, identifying claims that would need support, use of last names for reference, and capitalization practice (common/proper nouns, titles). Honors: practice subject/object pronouns (my friend and I / my friend and me).
    3. Connect standards to assignments and include them in titles and in gradebook and lessons.
    4. Develop writing mini-unit. Review scholarly research on 5PE. (I think I can have this as an intro to the research unit so that they also get exposure to how quotes are integrated and cited.) Parallel structure; use of emotional language, specific detail. Use "Write About a Pebble" lesson from Atwell. Use the UDHR and the Declaration of Independence to study paraphrasing; use that to front-load Machiavelli and how to deal with challenging texts.
    5. Write next blog post. Comment on 3 posts each week -Tu Th Sun? Barn order: stapler, pencil sharpener
    6. Keep track of medical stuffs. Dentist? Also Feb 7 9:30 w Ac Int. Sub already set up. Apr 22 McC. Need sub. Call to set up checkups with Dass (October). GET MAGAZINES FOR COLLAGES FROM DOCTORS.
    7. Take recycling to center. Wash car.
    8. Do research on characteristics: curiosity, persistence, resilience, creativity, responsibility, optimism, courage, integrity, authenticity, leadership, self-awareness, humility, compassion - others? Can poetry unit be condensed?
    9. Go to used bookstore and look for Design for How People Learn (Julie Dirksen), On Writing (Stephen King), Dying for a Paycheck (Robin Hardman), The Prince (tr. Tim Parks, Russell Price, Harvey Mansfield, or Robert Adams). Check on alternate translations for The Prince.

Husband made bread last night. I had a slice and it was SO good. So... I had another. :( I didn't need another. I didn't NEED the first one. But I managed to stop after the second slice even though I wanted more! We're having lunch with his parents today and he's making ANOTHER loaf to take there... I asked him if we could take what's left of last night's bread as well and he seemed okay with that.

I've got to get this grading done. And my coursework is due. And my lesson plans are due tomorrow morning. Yikes!

@littleblackskirt - when I started last Year on here I was pushing it hard. I complained one day about hurting so bad and everyone told me how important rest days are. Smart decision. I made Sunday my Maintenance day a few months ago. It’s the day of the week I make a big breakfast and have a big family dinner. I still post exactly the same goals so I keep it in mind, but don’t beat myself up if I don’t succeed.

@clicketykeys - mmmm homemade bread. I talked to a young man teaching grade 6 yesterday. He was concerned about getting his marking done too. It seems to be a common theme amongst teachers.

I am still not feeling well this morning. Did not sleep well and am going to be happy to get home to have a nap! May not need to eat today after my indulgence last night!

I'm proud to call you
    Sisters! Love you💝🌹

Oh Mary ... I am so very sorry. This has to be so very hard. I have a daughter with mental issues ... but I also understand how frustrating it is when the doctors will not talk to us because of Hippa laws. Especially in your case where it is more physical than mental ... nothing worse than to be treated for something other than the main root of the problem. Prayers for you dear friend. If you ever need to talk .... we are here for you. I remember when they put my daughter in the hospital ... and they would not let me get her out. They said they would get a court order to keep her there .... why the doctors think they know more than a mother. UGG!! Don't get me started there! But you are there for your daughter ... and right now ... that is all you can do. I am happy your husband is being better to you and communicating more. Love you .... and again ... please write anytime. You are such a important person to all of us.

Not the best day for me yesterday. I can do great for 2-3 days, then just fall apart. Even though it was all healthy foods, its still calories. Got into peanuts again.

    SO, new day today
    1. log my food.
    2. concentrate on water
    3. go to the gym ... already did this, but a short workout, as very tired
    4. get out ... even if just to go to walmart.
    5. work on pc boards ... we are so far behind work-wise

@HEGoddard0928 , you're doing exactly the right thing. All you can do is be there, listen when he wants to talk, and don't push him when he doesn't. Sounds like you are doing well.

    Sunday 27 January

Another indulgent day enjoying the views from my window on Skye and good food. I'm still OK about being a piggy and gaining. All changes on Wednesday when I go back south and return to work and start the task of getting back to my maintenance weight!

Reading about the challenges some of you are facing is humbling and I applaud your tenacity.

Just found this thread and really need some motivation to reach my goals! I'm aiming to lose 8-10kg after giving birth to my daughter nearly 6 months ago. I'm Still not at my pre-pregnancy weight, where prior to getting pregnant I was going to the gym 4-5 times a week and eating far less junk than I seem to be doing now. Not only do I have little time to work out, but it seems having a baby means countless meet ups with other new mums at coffee shops which inevitability means cake 😏🙄. I'm trying to get better at keeping the snacking at bay but the thing I miss the most is a hard workout session. Anyone have any tips on how to fit this in when you have a baby who is a terrible napper during the day? It would be great to connect with other mums who managed to achieve their goals!

So anyway, goals for tomorrow are:
    1. No snacking
    2. Drink at least 2l of water
    3. Log my food for the day

    TIA

@HEGoddard0928 - being there is all you can do. I learned that you can’t force the grieving process, it lasts as long as it lasts and until someone else has been through it they won’t understand it. I can’t speak to Matt’s mind or thoughts but I know from my experience when my Dad was sick that there was a lot of anger and guilt in the years following his death.

My Dad was wasting away to nothing and was in so much pain. We couldn’t even hold his hand because it caused him so much pain. I prayed for God to take him, I told the nurses to give him more morphine. I did anything I could think of to make his suffering end. I have felt guilty and then angry at myself ever since. My Dad passed in 2012, i still feel guilt when I think about it. Have patience when Matt is angry at times it might be self directed.

Another thing that really bothered me was no one talked about my Dad. It was like I came back to Alberta after the funeral and Dad no longer existed for anyone. When I finally blew up about it to my family (about a year later) I found out they were taking cues from me, they were scared to bring him up and upset me and I hadn’t brought him up because I thought they were tired of hearing it. So talk keep communication open. I don’t know how much she changed physically in the last while, those are hard images to get out of your head. Find favourite photos from years gone by and look at them if that’s what Matt wants down the road. It’s going to be rough but you’ll get through it together.

I feel for those with tough times at present. I just lost my dad on Friday. He slipped away and God took care of him and me, amazing His strength to help me bear it. I pray for all of you in your tough times. Keep trusting and keep taking those small steps. Especially @maryrobinson40 and HEGoddard.

Keep logging and being mindful of what eating.
