Others would disagree but it is for individuals to seek out information to make their own informed decisions rather than rely on comments in online forums.
Others disagreeing doesn't make them right. A lot of the comments on these forums is backed up with a lot of history, experience and knowledge.
Very true. All decisions should be evidence based.
And there is no evidence that doing 800cal on purpose for any length of time without the supervision of a doctor is good or healthy. Such things are also not encouraged on this forum and posts about unhealthy diets have been removed before.
Perhaps the OP is hoping to do a very low calorie diet under medical supervision?
OPReally i was just tbinking cut calories and go! I guess with the exercising too though I need more? I weigh 13.12
Doesn't sound like "under medical supervision," does it?

There are have been very interesting results, published in The Lancet, on the benefits of such a diet, under supervision, in treating diabetes. Can't see, in this case, how it would be considered an unhealthy diet.
Obviously not suitable for everyone.
OP mentioned neither medical supervision nor diabetes.6 -

There are those who will advise against any diet so low in calories still there are others who would advocate it.
See what scientic evidence you can gather to support or refute the claims people make.
A sedentary two-year-old requires 1000 calories. https://health.gov/dietaryguidelines/2015/guidelines/appendix-2/ There is NO WAY that an adult not under direct medical supervision should be on 800.
Don't think the sedentary two year old is trying to lose weight though 😉
An adult needs about the same amount of energy just to exist. With that I mean the heart functioning properly, all the organs working, the brains functioning. This all requires energy. You don't take energy away from any of your organs. Or can you convince your heart to do with less energy for a few months? Just skip two beats and then do one? Who needs digestion, who needs the liver and kidneys doing their thing 24/7? Brains are overrated anyway.
TO: Don't eat so little. 1200 is the bare minimum. If you want to look great on vacation then don't crash diet. You'll feel miserable, probably lose hair and look pale. You're damaging your body. And you'll burn a lot of muscle along the way and will not look great in bikini but flabby.6 -

No but after reading and doing more research the OP, and indeed others, may consider an 800 calorie diet as being suitable.

Based on your stats I'd say 1500 - 1600 would be still giving you a good loss and far more sustainable. It would give you the energy you need to exercise too. I'd suggest lifting weights (lots of great programs out there!) or doing body weight workouts at home if you don't go to a gym. Throw in some HIIT cardio and while you may not lose a few stone by your holiday you'll actually look and feel way better than quickly losing weight on 800 cals a day and ending up with no energy, your hair falling out and probably losing boobs and bum in the process!
I know it's tempting to crash diet for a special event but you'll feel loads better on your holiday even if you are only 20lb down but you are feeling healthy and nicely shaped from the exercise.2 -

I am not promoting any sort of diet.
I am suggesting people research diets that may be suitable for them.
Apologies if discussing diets proven to have health benefits is forbidden.

Health benefits for a very very very specific patient group. Namely: type 2 diabetics who are morbidly obese with at a high risk of comorbidities (such as renal failures and CVD) or already have said comorbidities for whom the risks of a VLCD outweighs the risks of their specific set of circumstances and WHO ARE UNDER MEDICAL SUPERVISION.
None of that applies to the OP.8 -

Do any of the criteria apply in this case? Is she morbidly obese? (that's BMI of over 40 in case you didn't know) Does she have diabetes type 2? Does she have any of the complications and comorbidities associated with diabetes type 2? As far as I can tell... no. Ergo, your post is superfluous and dangerous as it promotes VLCD as being acceptable regardless of the situation.6 -

By even arguing, in the context of a thread where it isn't appropriate at all, that it might be suitable for the OP in the slightest.
People for whom this kind of diet is appropriate, will be notified of this fact by the doctor and put under medical supervision. Far too many people will read "800kcal/day might be suitable..." and think "great, I'll do that. I've got a couple of vanity pounds I want to lose".5 -

So your husband ate 3000kcal less than his maintenance calories every single day?
Why would you want to lose weight fast? You lose a lot of muscles. Apart from looking flabby from losing muscles, muscles are very difficult to build back up, prevent osteoporosis, increase maintenance calories. oh, and your heart is a muscle too. Why are you trying to get rid of heart muscle?9 -

There are many things I'd call Michael Mosely. Brilliant isn't one of them. In fact, all of them would come out as *kitten* if I tried to write them here.

Maybe some of those people who read that have the ability to read further to get to the words "Or not"
