    It's a 'them' thing, not a 'you' thing.
    One of the best pieces of advice I've ever gotten was from a 14 year old who told me "it's not about you". I was offended by someone...and she said that...got me thinking we have no idea what's going on for other people...maybe their dog just died, maybe they are bitter with some aspect of their life.
    I've been accused of giving "looks" (in an un complimentary way) before and truly it was just me "not getting it", just a facial expression that was mistook (is that a word?)
