@Avidkeo - I agree with @ContraryMaryMary. I am sure he was caught off guard and didn't want to show an emotional response of any kind. When I told my boss I was retiring her response was 'oh that's great!'. I was sure she would ask me to consider staying as I was one of only 2 women technical sales people. I had lots of the sales people that I supported ask me to reconsider but not my boss. She was supportive of my decision and that was that.4

@Avidkeo ((hugs)) don't take it personally. Sometimes managers/bosses/whoever are (or feel they are) required to behave in a certain, supposedly professional manner, no matter what they feel on the matter. Anyway, remember you're doing this for YOU and your family and that's all that matters.
Woke up at 5am again this morning fretting over how to pack so much stuff into two little suitcases. Not helping that the weather looks like it's going to be pretty wet for our hiking holiday and my husband is a typical Spaniard (ie. thinks he'll melt if he gets rained on) so I'm trying to figure out how to fit in winter jackets, waterproofs, etc.
So anyway, it was a relief to get out for a run and turn my brain off for a while this morning. 4.8km is still feeling pathetically like a long way but at least I'm gradually getting the distances up again. Nobody said it would be quick. For my long run (whoohoo, a whole 6.5km! lol!) on Saturday I tried out 90 second run/30 second walk intervals as per the Galloway run-walk method I'm experimenting with, and it went really well. However, I am concerned that I'll get so used to this run-walk lark I won't be able to straight run for more than a couple of minutes at a time. At the other end of the scale, I'm worried about re-injuring myself if I force myself to straight run too much and much legs yell at me when I do, too. So this morning I came to a compromise with myself: I did 2 km at 120 seconds run/30 seconds walk, then ran a straight kilometre, then went back to the intervals for 1.3km, then straight ran the final half km. My legs feel tight now but my conscience is at peace with itself.
I will be awol from Thursday until after Easter, so good luck to everyone racing and doing other exciting things over the holidays!
April goal: 40km. Run so far: 18.8km7 -
@eleanorhawkins have an awesome trip!1

@shanaber - thanks for the clarification! Glad no one was seriously hurt by any frightening living thing. A racer snake! Never heard of it but I would have raced the other way quickly!
My daughter shipped me her non-Nike running wear and I am shipping her my Nike running wear. It felt like Christmas when I opened her box yesterday! This is because she now works for Nike and is not permitted to wear non-Nike athletic clothes to work. I've already worn two of the shirts - so nice!

@Avidkeo don't take it personally. Companies have zero loyalty towards employees anymore. Their loss.
@MobyCarp glad you are making the trip to Boston. Sounds like you will have fun despite not being able to run it. Good attitude though.
6.2 miles this morning. Didn't think I would have to start my 'summer' running schedule this early in the year, but it will be 90F today, so it has begun. Getting up at 4am isn't the problem (that's about normal), it's just getting used to running again that early. But today was very nice (59F, 0 wind, 67% humidity) so it was a good introduction. Was able to do a little 'speedwork' (anything under 9/mi is considered speed these days). Garmin says I did a 7:49 mile somewhere between mile 5 and 6. Pretty soon will be shirtless running weather too .

Thank you for the congratulations on my race. I was absolutely thrashed yesterday; didn't sleep well on Sunday night (up for a couple hours at midnight!) and was ready for a nap when I got home from work. My husband said dinner would be ready in about an hour so I stayed up... then it was another hour... it was finally ready at 7 (I get home around 4:30). By then I figured I might as well push until bedtime, which was a little later than usual. BUT! I was ready to get up a little before 4, so I must have been rested enough.
I took the dogs out for 3 miles this morning and tried to keep it easy. I succeeded at staying out of zone 5, which makes me very happy ... and about 60% of the run was in zone 2. My quads are beat up right now; my foam roller is waiting for me tonight!8 -

January Total: 131k
February Total: 159.5k
March Total: 183k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Must be getting excited about the first race of the season. Started off easy and jut kept picking up the pace as I felt was appropriate. Sunny and 60 degrees F today; only catch was the 15 to 20 mph wind that blew from every direction but the east and gusted to 25 mph so it could be in my face on uphills.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K (Registered)
6-1 Freedom 5K (Will be off the schedule due to another commitment)
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K9 -
April goal: 85 miles
4/2: 5.07 miles
4/3: 4.63 miles
4/4: 5.05 miles
4/7: 8.41 miles
4/9: 5.04 miles
28.2/85 miles completed
Today's run was 5.04 miles. It was an uneventful run, but in a good way. I really enjoyed it. It was a little cooler than I expected, but nice. It was about 55F, but not too humid. It was in the 80's yesterday and the forecast is 91F today and 96F tomorrow, so it was nice to have a cool run. I still wore shorts and a tank top and I wasn't too cool. I think it will be warmer tomorrow morning and then it is supposed to get kind of cold again on Thursday and we should have some cool morning temps but I think we are through with winter.
2019 races:
2/2/19: Catch the Groundhog Half Marathon - PR 2:15:17
5/18/19: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon5 -

@girlinahat yikes! This place always felt different because its a community trust run not-for-profit hospital and GP practice. The whole focus is people. I think you all are probably right, I caught him off guard and he reverted to "professional" and problem solving. It just took me by surprise. Over it now and actually I'm better off if I don't need to give more notice etc so he may have been thinking of me there rather than dismissive. Letting it go now.
I didn't want to get out of bed this morning but got up, thought I'd do 2k. Did 711 -

Gotta admit I looked at that one, too, as I'll be in the area this summer. I really shouldn't, though. My quad keeps threatening me and I probably need to back off after the marathon (provided it doesn't get worse over the next couple weeks).0 -
@amymoreorless, @midwesterner85, @mbaker566, @zeesparrow and anyone I missed who raced this weekend, GREAT JOB! Sounds like some tough races, and you did it!2

@amymoreorless Sounds like a lovely race! Great job!
@midwesterner85 Congrats on finishing despite the whole gallbladder affair - you’ve been through a lot recently!
@mbaker566 I’m so glad you didn’t miss your race because of an illness. You look amazing, and you are officially hardcore getting out there and finishing despite being sick.
@zeesparrow Yay first 10k!3 -
10k on trails today. It hit 90 today y’all, winter weather just passed and I’m already over this heat! Today’s goal was just to run by feel and learn what “easy” feels like at the higher temperatures. We were so slow, more than a minute per mile slower than our easy pace when the weather is cooler. I think I need to readjust my expectations for the coming summer. I did some reading and both medications I’m on have difficulty regulating temperature listed as side effects. In addition diabetics are supposedly more susceptible to heat exhaustion. All I know is that I seem to have more trouble adjusting than other people around me.
The weather is really beautiful if I didn’t want to run in it! Washed the car, had a picnic, saw a deer jump over the trail in front of me, saw dozens of big old turtles sunning themselves on the river bank. My husband ran under a tree which grabbed his hat right off his head and that was funny.11 -

...and @AlphaHowls ???
She would slaughter us all mercilessly if she was in that list!
All she needs to do is upload her .gpx files to Strava...I have no idea why she doesn't, especially as she'd probably come near the top of the different mileage challenges that Strava does.
I did try strava, but it requires more than I have presently...as in GPS, smart phone, apps and such. I just have a fitbit, but nothing else to get GPS with. I tried to pair my fitbit with it, but without all the high powered tech stuff...it ain't happenin'!3 -

Treadmill run before circuit training this morning - actually made it to the gym early enough to get over 3 miles in. Circuit training was all legs and core today. Not quite what I was expecting. It was exhausting.
Going to get packed and go to bed early if I can. Tomorrow will be a long travel day and hopefully getting some work done along the way.

You definitely should do it. I hear from people that have run it that it is very well run and enough aid stations that you can get way with just carrying a water bottle instead of a full pack. Right now there is a strong likely hood that my wife and I will be there.2
