If anyone would know of an exercise to bulk up arms or shoulders or chest, this is the thread to find that person! Since I'm always going to be shaped like a Christmas tree, alas, maybe someone can tell me how to make the tree a little wider-looking at the top? I'm always a little sad when I hear that women can't bulk up, even with weights, as I would give anything to do that above the waist...

Grab some hand weights and do a few sets of these every other night.

(some of these you can do both arms at the same time)

This is a good bodyweight move for upper body and core strength:

I would hate to bulk up! I want to get 'CUT' not bulked up!! That would make me look even bigger than I already am!! I will simply keep trying my best to make my thighs smaller than they are!!

Noticed a few people disagree about me being pear shaped, but trust me I am! Which is why I took another photo to show u guys....I have a smaller upper body and enormous and thighs!!!

I've come to love my pear shape.
Taken me a while..... but I'm stuck with it. Regardless of what size I get to, my thighs/hips will always be larger.
I've got 15 inches difference between my waist and hips (I have a big bum, crazy, i know)

I actually like what my body looks like in a dress or skirt. Its quite a sexy thing to look at.
    My partner absolutely loves it!!!1

I too have the bulge at the top of my thighs :grumble: and the only short shorts i wear are my jammies.
I guess all we can do is keep working on it.
Like i read earlier it will be last place to go.

Good luck with the thigh bulge all. x

    Im pear shape, embrace it.

If you know you are going to be bigger down below, work the muscle on it, so atleast it will look better.

i may be 27.5inc waist and and 39 to 40 hips (depends on bloatage), however, it barely jiggles.

i have the lumps at the top of my thights, i do wear short shorts, with tights.

Pear girl here too. I've sorta learned to accept that I will always have hips (damn bones) but that doesn't mean I will accept the jiggly thighs or butt. I work out tons and have some new exercises to try but I have a question for you Jillian fans. I work out at a gym and don't use exercise videos/DVD's-too many distractions. What exercises does she do that you think are so great for your legs and butt? I could do them at the gym hopefully. And futurefitgirl-you do NOT have a big butt. You look great (and don't take that in a creepy way!).

I love my big (childbearing) hips haha makes me feel womanly. I could wear shorts but it does not look tasteful so I avoid it.... I'm working really hard to tone up my thighs and preferably lose fat % around there.... I am not that much into JIllians work outs but I can recommend you one thing...its

BRAZIL BUT LIFT!! I swear to god its amazing!!! I've only done it a few times and I'm sticking to it..its all mainly focused on your bootay-thigh region... :) the trainer guy has these really modified squats and lunges...it will kick ur *kitten*!!

u shud try it and lemme know how you find it...

You don't look particular pear shaped.

I have the opposite problem. I am top heavy, and now that I've lost weight, my butt has gotten flat.

At least you have boobs!! I used to be a C when I was fat and now I'm a B :( !!! hahaha and I still have fat legs!!

I have too much boobage. I'd love to get down to a C.
i have become more pear shaped but with a big belly. I have lost weight up the top was a 36G but got measured a month ago im now a 32J & i am not impressed but there you go.

who says thick thighs cannot wear shorts?? there is a body type for everyone out there, some men like skinny legs and some men like thick legs and butt and same for women, some like skinny six packs, some like a teddy bear. I just get in where I fit in and love what I have. lol . I wear shorts and leggings with pride and if someone doesn't like my type, they can look away because I think thick is sexy.:blushing:

Yup definitely, its about being comfortable in your own skin. One can have thick yet shapely legs. I think thick is sexy too, but my legs are not shapely AT ALL. But I think I can get around to it with significant fat % loss and muscle mass increase!! Fat is lumpy muscle is not!!! :D

What you can and cant wear is all in your head. My thighs are almost twice your size but I got so tired of letting what other people think dictate my life that I just decided not to care. And know I rock short skirts, dresses etc and I feel fabolous cause I know how much hard work Ive put down to make my legs look the way they do.

Ladies, I'll also be taking a look at these bits of pear-shaped-specific advice too, so thought I'd share!

    http://befitandstrong.com/exercise-for-pear-shaped-body/

And I do agree with all of you who said this before - we're gorgeous as we are! I know that my OH would be very unhappy if my bottom, hips and thighs were to disappear.

I'll just keep hoping they go down as I lose weight. I still think my thighs look jiggly and lumpy, but they are smaller than when I started. Lunges hurt my knees (arthritis) so I do them without weights and can only do so many. The crunching noise my knees make freaks me out. I'm really feeling yesterday's walk in my glutes and hamstrings. I wore my New Balance toning shoes and did a lot of uphill. Maybe that's a good back of the leg exercise.

Mostly I need to go lift some heavy weights. That really takes off the inches. Good luck everyone!

    OK, the guy perspective here.

Definitely don't want to throw anyone off of their goals so by all means chase the body you want.

First of all, what some of you girls are calling "pear shaped" is not pear shaped at all. You just have wide hips. And guess what, ladies? Guys love those.

The closest lady in this thread that I have seen so far that came close to looking pear shaped was Rachel6503, and she really isn't, either. She's very fit and has very nice hips.

I know everyone wants the super-skinny model look where you can stand with your knees together and see daylight between your thighs, and it does look awesome, but it's not super necessary to looking awesome. The biggest thing is a nice proportion from bust to waist to hips, and no rolls. If you've got that going on, you've got it going on!
