@Avidkeo what a beautiful spot for a run! You're inspiring me to get back to taking a drive on Sun to get to one of my more scenic longer run spots, rather than just setting out from my front door yet again (I am sooo bored of my local route)
Re: the tree trimming - I have no idea. But now I want to remember to take a pic of the pretty one out my window when I get home, lol

Aww I love the flowering trees! All of ours are past flowering. We have a Japanese plum that’s yummy, but the prettiest is the sand cherry. Dh said it need cut back but I don’t want to cut it back. And it’s already loaded with cherries. What do you think? Maybe trim it later? Guess I could look it up or ask the nursery when to trim it.
Hah, our ground hasn't even finished un-freezing. We're supposed to have our first stretch of 50+ weather starting today and the rain yesterday washed away the snow from our last storm, so hopefully we'll start seeing flowers soon.4 -
4/18 - 32.6 km FINAL 20-miler for this training cycle. I DID IT! Also I did it slightly faster than the last ones, and feel even better afterwards. I actually felt like I could've kept going for 10k more today. Don't worry, though - I won't! Even though THESE just arrived...I was stressing because my newer Brooks have felt destroyed since a particularly off-road long run I did several weeks ago. My older pair already gave me twinges on long runs and now the new pair was doing the same. My feet hurt like when you've done too much walking in shoes with no support.Interesting notes from the run:
I have a newer pair of Kalenjis but all of the previous identical pairs I bought (on sale) make my toes fall asleep despite alternate lacing. So basically everything I had was "short-run only". I'll break these in and see how they do.
*A drunk guy tried to run with me for about 20 seconds in the city along a bike path. He was trying to entertain his friends, but he couldn't go in a straight line and was pushing me off the path, so I pushed him back and told him he needed to "run straight ahead" and he quit. Thanks to my job, I think we can officially say I've overcome my fear of guys like that.
*The race top that looked like a total chafing episode waiting to happen is actually excellent at wicking sweat away and drying quickly. But there's a seam under the armpit. It's a no-go for long runs.
*I was running down the final street before turning to home, so basically the finish line of the high point of my marathon training, and a familiar-looking car pulled into a side street in front of me and stopped. It was a friend delivering Polish cheese and Easter Greetings! Yes!
*Looks like my snail managed to sneak past the chicks without getting hurt. Time to turn on smart-taper mode.15 -

In celebration of my 51st birthday today I ran 5.1 miles. It was a good run. It was a little cooler than yesterday and windy, but still hot and muggy all at the same time. There were some clouds and the moon looked really cool with the clouds flying past it when I started out. It was a mostly uneventful run, but very pleasant. I still find it hard to believe that not only do I willingly run 5 miles on my birthday, but I want to run 5 miles on my birthday and I would have been very disappointed if I had not been able to run today. My 5th decade is off to a good start. I feel so much better now than I did when I was in my forties. Running, yoga and dropping 80 pounds makes getting old a lot easier.
My boss is out of the office today and tomorrow is a holiday, so I will probably spend the rest of the day taking it pretty easy. So far the birthday is off to a good start.

4/15 6miles, 30min TRX routine
4/16 5.6miles
4/17 5miles
4/18 7.35miles, 30min hip exercises
6 miles, 6 strides, then a half mile cool down. My leg still hurts, but weirdly not while running. Walking around and especially going up stairs is when it hurts the most. It seems to be the outer side of my left thigh near my hip. Time to hit up Dr Google and see what he says, will avoid any recommendations that says to stop running 🤪5 -
quilteryoyo wrote: »@Elise4270 The captions on your photo made me laugh! Thanks. I don't know about trimming trees either, but agree with the almighty internet that waiting until they are dormant is probably the best idea.
@ Avidkeo and @Elise4270 I love how you are both so excited about x-rays and "shop talk" about the equipment they were taken on, etc. Loving what you do for a living makes life so much easier.
@ Avidkeo Looks like you have a lovely place to go for a run.
Awesome, that’s what it was meant to do. Dh said the bushes didn’t need it... but you can clearly see the ones I trimmed look so nice compared to the run away growth of the others. I had to add “leg broke”, remember when you were little/young and your parent said “do it yourself, you legs not broke”. How about now mom? My leg is broke... think she cursed me.7 -
Happy Birthday @kgirlhart ! Awesome that your 50's are going to be so much better than your 40's!!
@Elise4270 Yeah. My mom used to say that all of the time too!
@polskagirl01 Love the new shoes. Hope they work out for you!2 -

Thanks @quilteryoyo!
I haven't officially registered for my HM in May yet. The price goes up on 4/26. Today in my email I got a birthday greeting from the company that does the race with $10 off my next race entry. I'm glad I waited to register.4 -

My schedule called for 2.5 miles this morning; ended a little short. It was a great run though. I ran past a readerboard which reminded me it is my brother's birthday today, too. I considered sending him a message but decided to wait until a more reasonable hour. So far, I'm on track to hit my goal next week AND for the stretch goal for the month! Yeah!! Only 6 more runs until my 12k race.4 -

Saw this little guy out on my run today... almost stepped on him, he is well hidden! I kept my distance and used my zoom to take this shoot. He is harmless (not sure what kind though) but was obviously uncomfortable with my presence. So took the shoot and ran.

@PastorVincent It looks like a garter snake.
The house I grew up in had a nest full of them under an old stump, so they were everywhere in our yard as a kid. They were a little bit different, probably a different sub-species in Iowa, but still harmless.0 -

Me neither... but I know the 4 types of venomous snakes in North America. I figure that is the more important thing. When I got my Wilderness First Responder certification, I learned how to treat bites from those snakes. And 3 of the 4 types are treated the same way while the 4th is not a very common bite (because the snakes are so reclusive).4 -
It was a gray, rainy day out today, right around 50°. I usually enjoy running in the rain but fortunately it was a super light, fine rain while on my run bc I forgot to pack my brimmed hat with me!
I also turned my run into an errand run. My company cut their donation check today for my Run For the Wild fundraiser (they gave me the $800 I requested!) so I decided I'd run to the post office to mail it right away. In a bit of Runner's Magic through luck and the route I randomly chose it was exactly 3 miles round trip, lol. I had figured I'd have to add something on at the end in order to get to a nice whole number!
I also ran down a street I don't normally run on and saw this killer treehouse. It even has a deck on the back! Not gonna lie, I'm kinda jealous

Awww. I was pulling weeds today and found an Earth snake. He was about 4 inches long. 😊0 -
Happy Birthday @kgirlhart. The 5th decade is the best!1

I was curious about the other three types as I could only think of rattlers, and found this article on recent fatal snakebites in the US. From a quick skim, it looks like the biggest risk factors for death-by-snakebite are 1) owning lots of venomous snakes, 2) trying to handle/kill a venomous snake, 3) not seeking medical attention after being bit by a venomous snake, and 4) being male.6 -

I'm late to the game, but just found this thread and this group today.
My goal this month is 60 miles. I've done 26 so far.
At this point, mine stride is more like wogging than running, but I've enjoyed it very much so far. I think that after I get more of this weight off (down 18 so far), it will be easier on my knees. I just started training on March 10 and managed to get 24 miles in that month.
My son has ran the Marine Corps Marathon (each October in DC) twice so this year when I decided to celebrate my 50th birthday year with weight loss and to be in the best shape of my life, I told my son (half jokingly & thinking 2020 would be his next one due to USMC obligations) that the next time he runs the MCM, I will do the 10k that same day.
Yes, I still think I can outwit my kids :-)
Nope! Not this time! In March he sent me the screen shot where he had made it into this years race. Sooooo guess what Mom is doing on October 27th this year? Yep!! You got it!!! The Marine Corps 10K!
I am actually very excited about it! I've already signed up for the Shawshank Hustle 7K that will be held in August in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the movie's release. I think that will be a good meter to see how prepared I am for the 10K. I'm also planning a 5K in June. It will be my first in 9 years so we'll see how that goes.16 -

Welcome to the group @heracaniac ! Love your 10k race goal!
I should actually be there this year too, MCM will be my 1st full marathon, provided I get there w/out injuring myself, lol6
