It is so exciting to see others doing the Alcohol Experiment. This book really is helpful. Although it has had it's challenging moments. So far so good though minus the one swig off hubby's. This is the first time in 10 years I have gone 3 days without alcohol.
May 1: Goal 3/Actual 5
May 2: Goal 3/Acutal <2 (didn't finish it all)
May 3: Goal open/Actual, 2 wines and aunt & uncles, 3 beers when returned home.

May 11: Goal open / Actual 4 wines
May 12: Goal 3 / actual 3 mimosa's, wine & beer
May 13: Goal 3 / actual AF
May 14: Goal AF / AF. Went to dinner with friends and drank a tea. I did it! But honestly, I was so tired. I think due to not drinking. Not sure. It is interesting to watch the "buzz" levels of those drinking while we were there.
May 15: Goal AF / 1 Drink....I mean "drink" "swig". Hubby walked by with one of my beers and I took a drink. The result, my tummy reacted. Kind of like if you'd go a week without sugar then eat a donut. It was a positive note to encourage me not to want more.

My plan for May will be 5AF days per week.
May 01 - AF
May 02 - AF - planned night out for dinner, drinks, a concert Friday night the 3rd. I am okay with that, I do it seldom.
May 03 - 1/2 litre of wine + 2 drinks! Off the rails with food too - this happens when we consume alcohol. I had a good time, but it is bad for the waistline.
May 04 - AF
May 05 - AF
May 06 - AF
May 07 - AF - really felt like having a drink just now, but came on here to record an AF day, which really helped me to abstain.
May 08 - 3 drinks
May 09 - AF - I have a deficit of 1900 left for today (very active day), so a couple of drinks would be within range - but - no drinking 2 days in a row, and I am going out tomorrow night and don't want a puffy face and puffy belly.
May 10 - 3 drinks. The show was sold out that the plan was to go to. Instead, worked my butt off getting the garden going, then fell to what most people are feeling like this time of year, a few drinks on the porch after working hard in the sun. All good.
May 11 - 3 drinks. Oop, 2 days in a row! Won't be having any over the next few days.
May 12 - AF - barely going to squeak out my new goal of 5AF days per week.
May 13 - AF
May 14 - AF - Almost didn't reach my 5AF per week. Really felt like having drinks but I knew that I needed to be AF to make the goal.
May 15 - AF - Yet another day where I really felt like having drinks, specifically a Cosmo. I kept delaying until I could talk myself out of it. Turned out well because the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues went into overtime, which would have meant more drinks had I been having drinks.
Running total: 11AF day out of 15 days so far3 -
Four day AF streak, 5th AF day in May. I really wanted a glass of wine after finishing up the yard work but made my first attempt at a mocktail. I did a little bit of cranberry juice (100% no sugar added), topped off with lime seltzer, and fresh lime juice. It was very refreshing and satisfying.8

May 16: Goal AF / actual 2 1/2 beers. Let myself down. I had many struggles as the afternoon and evening approached wanting a beer, or a glass of wine, but I breathed deep through them, remembered the reasons for my goal.....About 8:15 I was starting my wind down getting ready for bed, washed my face, jammies on, poured a glass of WATER, grabbed a book and sat down on the couch.....15 minutes good friends from out of state showed up. The one I hadn't seen in 15 years. They walked in holding drinks of Crown Royal (their parents live down the street My brain flashed back and forth, then I gave in. Don't feel good about it, but I did it. Tonight is also going to be a big challenge. I am hosting a large get together of classmates. Not sure how I will do, but I will try my best. Have a great day everyone!

My goals for the month are 50% days AF, and keeping it to 2 glasses the majority of drinking days.5/15- AF
5/1- AF
5/2- 2, goal of 2
5/3- 4, no goal
5/4- AF
5/5- 3, goal of 2- not thrilled I had the third glass, but glad I didn’t use the fact that I’d missed the goal turn into a 4th or more.
5/6- AF
5/7- AF
5/8-AF
5/9- 1, picked up my friends from the airport and had one with them at their hotel
5/10- lots, like 7-8- I joined the bachelorette party after work and we saw a show, hit a bar, then a club where the club gave us free drinks. It was a great time but heavier than I intended. Good news activity wise was that was lots of walking and dancing!
5/11- 5, another bachelorette day and night, better paced than the day before.
5/12- 2, final bachelorette day for me and went home for Mother’s Day dinner.
5/13- AF
5/14- AF.
5/16- 3, “split” a bottle of wine with H
5/17- so far AF but Fridays I usually enjoy watching modern family reruns on USA with wine- will target this being one of my 2 glass nights if I do that after putting the toddler down.2 -
Friday night out at four different places all serving alcohol. Geeze so many trashed people I knew. Honesty.....you don't have to stagger up into my space to announce "I am so drunk". Thinking I should call that same person up right now at 6:45AM and say "I AM SO AWAKE AND NOT HUNGOVER".
Another reason I choose to drink less booze. ( good name for a song)
Day 17 of May 2019 -

@MissMay thank you for sharing your Friday night with us. Great reminder!
@dawnbgethealthy your doing great!!
My Friday night didn't go so well. I was intending to keep it to 3 beers IF I even chose to drink.
Walked into the club and the wonderful bartender brought me a glass of wine, doing her good work that she does....no need to say more 2/3 glasses of wine, couple of beers. Then after party on our back deck. I drank less then usual, but having drank so much less that week, 3 AF days, I felt like CRAP yesterday!!
The struggle is that my mind then wants to open a bottle of wine again the next day.... the mental battles....stay strong...ahhh try again tomorrow....ughhh....
Sure appreciate being able to talk this out with you all.
I've also noticed we've lost a LOT of regulars from last month and before.
Hoping that means everyone is doing so good they don't "need" to keep in touch.
Happy less alcohol Sunday night ya'all!!7 -
I put this picture and the link to Mydrinkaware.com's article on Why have more drink free days? on my FaceBook...bet no one on FaceBook will give me a 👍. Might even have people unfriend me.

I have yet to conquer a weekend. I was AF Monday - Thursday but by Friday afternoon I finished yard work and wanted a drink. Even after reading the Alcohol Experiment cravings and discomfort chapters I was enjoying wine all weekend.
Instead of giving up I’m back to the plan. I’m not going to think about the holiday weekend until it’s here or I’ll just go back to drinking everyday using the upcoming holiday as an excuse. Happy tracking!4 -
@MissMay People......ugghhh…….keep at it though
@mckinlau Me too on all accounts lol
Although I drank Friday and yesterday...…..I found it different....my thinking after the first drink...…..did I "really" like it? Also I can feel it getting so much closer to being able to live AF. It's a great feeling!5 -

I'm still lurking here. Have zero AF days to report, but I am starting again today. The goal is AF at least until the weekend. Start small. You guys are inspiring.8

I'm back!
Sadly I haven't been checking in due to, well just laziness. And by laziness I mean quite the opposite actually. Selling a house and planning a move on such a tight schedule has just been the most chaotic and stressful thing. Especially when you're told you've got a foundation issue. Needless to say I have been SOOO busy and so stressed. Some days I did choose to have a drink or two but some days I was still AF. Ive eaten fairly well still. Working out some days but not every. I have however spent 30 mins outside every day tanning and sweating, that has been my rewind time every day. But I have learned that my desire to drink has diminished a LOT! I no longer over drink. I dont drink hard liquor and take shots of things. I simply have one or two, SOME days. I would say I've done 1/3 of the month AF so far. But anywho. I'm back and I'm logging in daily again. Better late than never.
May 20 - AF

May 20 - AF
May 21 - 3 drinks. I actually did better when my goal was 4AF days per week, when I often had 5 or 6 AF days per week. I am going to go through May with this goal, but I might bring it back down to 4 for June, I'll see. I went from drinks 7 days per week for 6 months at the start of this, and didn't want to fail by making too huge of a goal for myself. My first goal was 2AF days per week and I progressed. Might not be ready just yet.
Like I have said in the past, I went from eating ribs weekly (1700 calories for a good feed) to once per month, then once every few months. I am not going to never eat ribs again, nor am I going to cut out having wine with my girlfriends, I am trying to cut back like I did with the ribs.
I am going away for 5 days where I likely won't have wifi so won't be checking in unless I don't leave until Thursday morning. Not sure if I am going to be having drinks or not while away, likely will be.
Even after these months, it would be pretty easy to go back to drinks every day...except...for the waistline and puffy face. I really cut drinking back for those visible reasons, and will need to keep it back. Alcohol really does affect the weight and the appearance.
Running total: 14AF days out of 21 days so far - not really reaching my goal.4 -
Back from vacation from California and practiced planned "mindful" vacation drinking. Wine tasting trip. No hangovers. Actually, the wine was not so good. Very acidic and sour everywhere I went. The days I had 2 mid-day and 2 with dinner, guess what - BLOATING came back. My body is telling me it does not like it........now back to my normal 1-2 a day this week until Saturday which is THE DAY I stop for 30 days (Alcohol Experiment).4

@beebva4 Foundation issues in your new house or old house?? Hope it's not a too drastic repair...or costly. Good luck!! Sounds like you've been doing excellent with your choices1 -
Last night unplanned prosecco when out for dinner. GOOD NEWS is........stopped at one glass. I really really love prosecco and in the past could and did drink an entire bottle myself. BAD NEWS......woke up at 1:30 AM, could not get back to sleep. No headache, just a poor nights sleep. Tonight going to get plenty of shut eye. I need it.
Success to everyone. May is close to being over.6 -

May 16 - AF - Tomorrow will be too, but probably not Saturday.
May 17 - 3 drinks - I completely changed my weekend plans around and ended up watching the hockey game with a few drinks. Not feeling that great this morning, I will need to sweat it out with a good workout.
May 18 - AF - Hair of the dog probably would have made me feel better - 3 drinks didn't use to affect me this way. Toughed it out.
May 19 - 3 drinks
May 22 - AF - going away in the morning without wifi for awhile.
Running total: 15AF days out of 22 days so far - not really reaching my goal.5 -
@dawnbgethealthy you’re doing awesome. It’s about progress not perfection. I too have had more A days than I originally planned this month, even the last few months. But I’m still having far more AF days than I ever did in 2017 and prior to finding this group. Looking at my monthly trend/tally I’m usually averaging 1/3 - 1/2 the days of the month AF (so basically 10-15 AF days). When I think about the fact that I used to drink every day, this really is a huge shift. I also, even though there have been some nights on work trips lately where I’ve had more than I intended, have kept things in control and haven’t had a hangover since I can’t remember when.
So yeah - mindful moderation for me, even if it’s more than some are partaking in, is still something to be proud of even when I don’t really reach a specific goal. It’s about drinking less and that’s certainly become the norm for me!
Now off to make a tea, get some work done, and prep for a weekend camping trip with friends that definitely WON’T be AF!
Keep up the good work your daily accountability tally is so inspiring! I keep mine next to my bed. One of these months I will try to log it here.
Also, you mentioned hockey, I’m assuming you’re on the other side of the outcome from me. LGB! #playgloria6 -
Hi all! I’ve been terrible at logging these last two weeks, and my weight is up. Plus my heart rate monitor broke so I have no idea how many calories I’ve burned through exercise. That, and binge watching shows has rendered me completely unproductive!
Last week I drank every night, especially this past Saturday while hosting a dinner party. My plan of 2 went out the window. So, back to tracking and getting through the feeling of “I’d love a glass of wine” with my seltzer &cranberry.
So Memorial Day Weekend is coming up. It’s such a drink-fest with all the barbecues and parties. I guess we need to treat a holiday weekend like any other day- stick to our plan.4 -
May 20 - AF
May 21 - AF
May 22 - had a little to drink, it was our cheat day but looking back I wish I hadn't had any because it really didnt do anything except put a bunch of extra cals into my day and dehydrate me this morning.
Wish I knew why I associated casual drinking as a "treat" to myself for not drinking for a while. What do you all do to reward yourself?

May 21: Goal AF / actual 5 beers
May 22: Goal AF / actual 3 1/2 beers. Felt cruddy all day from the 5 beers the night before. I am actually gaining SOOO Much from reading the Alcohol Experiment. My thinking towards drinking is changing....at my pace, but changing. Tomorrow night my son and his family will be coming over for game night. I plan to open the one remaining bottle of wine to be shared so I won't drink it all at another time. I want to really keep my drinking to a minimum this weekend and "feel" it, not party through it. I also want to end Monday with 0 of my favorite beers on hand so I can start Tuesday working for 30 days AF. Monday is my children's birthday, along with a very special holiday to me and my family. Memorial Day, the day when we honor my fallen uncle from Vietnam. He was my dad's only sibling, so we pay tribute to him with so much love and admiration.

@dawnbgethealthy You say your not reaching your goal...…..I get that completely, but, when I read your May 21st comments, I am impressed. I don't think I will be able to do partial...…….at least not yet. I thought I could for about a year and never could muster it up. Have a great trip!!
@Womona Glad to see you back! Yes, get past this typical party weekend and get back in the battle with all of our weapons!!
@WinoGelato Enjoy your camping trip...…..all our camp area's are flooded out. Back yard bar-b-que's for us. Can't even take our new boat out...……..sooooo disappointing, but thankful for many other things.2 -

I’m the same. I’ll be good all week (so far AF Mon-Wed and plan to do so today) then Friday comes and I tell myself I’ve been so good I’ll order take out and get a bottle of wine. I need to find a non-food/alcohol related treat
