@MegaMooseEsq Looks like you had a great experience. Congrats on the race and love the bling. I really enjoy The Oatmeal's comics (might've blubbered a bit over the running one) and am now really envious!
The running comic makes me tear up whenever I read it - it's great. That was definitely a bucket list experience for me!1 -
Just been skimming over all the posts I've missed before I start dinner. Well done everyone on their races/improvements/PBs/still getting out there and running!
I've not run or done any other physical activity since last Saturday because work has been stupidly busy and has drained all my energy. I possibly could have pushed myself to go out mid week but I just couldn't face it!
Managed to get out for just a 10k today (possibly should have run for longer but I have another busy week next week) but pushed myself and ended up doing it in 57 minutes which means another 1 minute 13 off my PB. Maybe it was a week of no running, maybe it was my new trainers - either way I'll take it!
01 Aug - 1.8 miles (treadmill)
03 Aug - 6.2 miles (outside)
11 Aug - 6.2 miles (outside)
14.2 miles/50 miles (err, 50 miles might not happen)9 -

I was soooo slow (slower than walking, lol) but for some reason I am ridiculously happy with myself. Taking off momentarily for a 5 hour walk in the Heide. I think I will have earned a beer in the Biergarten at the end.
Don't feel silly! Feel proud of yourself.
That is awesome! We all start somewhere. Except for those who never start at all.8 -
@PastorVincent You are AWESOME!!! And, of course, so is Kristi!!!!
Ditto!0 -
Great job on your birthday run @skippygirlsmom! What a great way to celebrate and good for you for being a smart runner and making the call to switch to the 10K.
@MegaMooseEsq Great race report! It seems like it was a lot of fun!2 -
August goal: 100 miles
8/1: 6.30 miles
8/4: 11.06 miles
8/6: 6.27 miles
8/7: 6.26 miles
8/8: 6.42 miles
8/11: 10.21 miles
46.52/100 miles completed
I ran 10.21 miles today. It was a pretty good run, but definitely hot. It was 78°F, feels like 79°F with humidity at 66% and a dew point of 66°F when I started out a little after 7 am, and when I got home a little before 9 am it was 84°F, feels like 88°F. It is 93°F feels like 97°F now and we are supposed to hit 105°F today. The last couple of miles were pretty tough, but I was glad I got out there. I didn't see many critters today. Just a roadrunner and a cat chasing a squirrel. I did a little bit of yoga afterwards to make sure I stretched, and now I've got pizza dough rising and I'm about to put some homemade pan pizza in the oven and finish watching Glow on Netflix. So all in all a pretty good Sunday.

Thanks! I posted yesterday and sort of buried the race report under a short comment on Wednesday's run and a spoiler tag because it was super wordy. Long short short, though, was that I had a lot of fun running with my sister for the first time.
Fantastic!!!0 -

I think most runners were sensible enough to get out earlier in the day, but I was still surprised to see no other runners - we went from the visitor center to the Greenline, most of the way to Germantown road and then back. There’s this one kid from a local track team who we always see running, and even he was walking today! Have fun tomorrow, it’s supposed to be even hotter. Be careful out there!
Yes, I got a late start and it sucked partly because of high BG. Anyway, I ended up cutting my run short. It was slow anyway and more walking than running. By the time I quit, most others seemed to be walking more than running too. I signed up with a Meetup group for a "stroll" this afternoon, so hopefully the mileage will get closer for today.
I'm seriously concerned whether I will be able to finish my next marathon onn9/1 in Tupelo.9 -

Happy birthday @skippygirlsmom 🎉🎂🍰
@Ringbearer2 terrific job running your first mile! It wasn't long ago that I shed a tear after completing my 1st mile as well. Well done! You are on your way!
@Squish815 congrats on the PB. Knocking off over a minute on a 10K is huge!3 -
6 miles yesterday, 5.5 today.

Happy Birthday, @skippygirlsmom !!0

55.55km so far for August.
It's the small things – like unintentional duplicate numbers which mean nothing but make me smile.14 -
0811-8.1k total 46.4k goal-130k
Run no.2 last night. I must have recovered really well during the day, that second run felt easier than the first one...
@skippygirlsmom Congrats on finishing and happy birthday!6 -
I haven’t been on here in years, but I’ve pretty much rediscovered the mfp app today. Recently healed up an injury which prevented me from running over half the year. 5 ish wks ago it was a struggle mile. Yesterday I managed an easy 10 mile on the treadmill.
Honestly have no idea of a August month goal. But week to week my running is improving. And I’m extremely excited to be back. Hope everyone’s training has been going good!

@skippygirlsmom - nice finish to the tough trail run and happy birthday!
@PastorVincent - way to tough out the four races! Congrats to you and Kristi!
@MegaMooseEsq - Nice job in Seattle!
Algoma Shanty Days 5k Race Report
The Shanty Days 5k is held in a small town on Lake Michigan. It’s part of the race series that my husband and I are doing. Going into the week my husband was having trouble with a hamstring and I was still taking things easy due to my left Achilles tendon. I had only run once or twice in two weeks, so not ideal.
The race started at 8 am, so we aimed to be there by 7:15 am so we could get our packets. The race is about an hour away from our house. Packet pickup went smooth and after the anthem we were off. From last year I knew that the beginning has a pretty solid bottle neck, but it had spaced out quickly. I had told myself that I wasn’t going to waste energy trying to dodge people and for the most part I did ok with that. What I hadn’t planned was catching my husband about half a mile in. When I looked at my watch it had said 8:15 pace which I knew was too fast. I tried staying with him, but couldn’t hold it even when he started slowing down.
For the most part the tendon did ok. It was more of a niggle, so not really painful. What cost me was the lack of training in the last month. I’ve been trying to be good about resting as to not make things worse, so the breathing felt really heavy. There’s a hill at the 1.5 mile mark that I ended up walking a little bit on, but after the two mile mark the course starts to head back towards the finish along the lake and there’s a nice downhill.
All in all ended up finishing a little slower than last year, but was happy with the results. I finished in 29:20 vs. 28:27 from last year. I noticed the ankle is pretty tight today so lots of stretching. Hopefully, I can get out on the trail tomorrow and start picking up the running again as have another 5k in about a month. The half in the series might be out of the picture now, but we’ll see.11 -
Thanks, @jele30 ! Well done on your race!0
