I'm finally adding my run from Sun. It was supposed to be around 20 miles, but was actually 11.6 miles. And it was very slow. I need to get an earlier start this next weekend so I can finish as it is getting really hot and actually have most or all of my miles in by then.

So I was mostly joking... this is what really happened.

@PastorVincent cake for lunch is acceptable if you are running and not “not running”. I passed up Panera cookies cuz I can’t “stomach” the thought of potentially going to the OR naked with a few extra extra pounds... but, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t snarf some cake, GF or not...
I have not run since the races. Been in job interviews! But I think I will have time tomorrow. I am hoping to have an offer (maybe 2) by the end of the week, and then I will accept something and hopefully start getting paychecks again soon. This will be my worst month in years for running I am sure.

I ate the last of the cake today, figure that way I will not be eating it all week. That is a valid diet technique, I am sure of it!

@MegaMooseEsq Yep. No looking back. You can not change anything back there. Just take today and work forward. Good job getting out there and getting it done!5 -

08/13: 5.03 mile easy run (am) + 5.08 miles - 8x(400@5k/200 float) (pm)
Total: 80.79 miles
Notes:
Well yesterday was supposed to be my day off from running, but Manny decided he wants to start running again so I kept him company on his first run back! It was just 1 mile, and at a super easy pace for me, so almost as good as a complete rest day haha. I'm really excited that he is getting back into running! Though it means I'll need a new photographer/#1 fan for races
Today was a double day- easy five miles in the morning before work, and then "track tuesday" first thing after work. On the menu today was Deek's Quarters- 8x(400m @ 5k pace/200m float). My goal was 1:50 for the 400s and 1:10 for the recoveries. Actual splits were 1:47/1:09, 1:50/1:11, 1:50/1:09, 1:49/1:10, 1:48/1:11, 1:48/1:12, 1:46/1:10, 1:44/1:07. Pretty on target for the 400s, but I was a little slow on the 200 floats. The first few felt really easy and I kept having to remind myself to slow down. By the 4th or 5th repeat though I could start to feel the toll that the float recovery was taking- not nearly enough for my HR to drop or breathing to ease up completely. Then I was really glad I didn't go too hard in the first few Overall it was a great workout, and I ended feeling strong and like it was easier than I expected! Also garmin informed me afterwards that my lactate threshold pace improved by 4 seconds so I guess that's a good sign. I have some foam rolling planned for tonight, and then hopefully a trail run tomorrow morning if I can get myself out of bed in time!
Thanks @Teresa502 @ROBOTFOOD @Tramboman @Scott6255 @rheddmobile @PastorVincent @katharmonic @kgirlhart for your kind words on my recent race! Y'all are too kind

0814-3.2k total 49.6k goal-130k
Today's run was supposed to be 13km. I've been pretty stressed out lately and haven't been sleeping well, so that's probably why it felt awful from the get go. That and a bunch of other factors. Anyway I slogged out 3km and gave up. Just didn't have the mental fortitude to stick with that for 13km.
Going to try again tonight.9 -
8/13: 3mi club run. 108f so really not able to run paces at all. Pretty much just survival running. 10:00 pace in heat feels like 8:00 on the TM under the AC.

Fellow crazy people, I had forgotten what the runner's high feels like! How could this be?
Since the 10k race I ran on June 15th I had been kind of dragging myself along on my hot, slow runs and feeling like they were tough. A week ago I was fretting over whether I would manage to hit the pace required to stay within the cut-off time for my half marathon in November, and was pleased to manage to run 5 kilometres in just under the required 38 minutes although I struggled.
Today, my training plan called for 5 kilometres at race pace. Well, on paper I know what pace I need to beat cut-off, and I know what pace I need to PR. Trouble is, this run-walk-run lark (which by the way is working AWESOME for me) makes it really hard to control pace. I'm going to have to work on working out what the run and walk speeds for my target pace feel like, but today I decided I was just going to run as fast as I could sustain without collapsing and walk the walks as fast as I could walk while recovering a bit too. Well, it felt very very very tough but Garmin claims I managed an average pace of 6:31 min/km. To beat my last HM time, I worked out I need to do 7:06:59 min/km. Soooo I just need to work out how to go a bit slower for a lot longer and it's cool! But first I need breakfast. And quite possibly a lot of stretching and a nap. Oh, a shower would probably be a good idea too, nice 79% humidity level this morning!
August goal: 90km. Run so far: 44.76km.

Lovely 5km run in the forest this morning, and faster than ive been recently (or the trees played havoc with my GPS 😁).
Back home in Bucharest now, hot here but nowhere near as humid as Spain was, so running felt soooo much better!11 -
Technically still 8/13 when I began the night run. Met up with a friend for another Peak.
5.6mi and 1,060ft gain. Daily total: 8.6mi
I call this run the radio towers. It reminds me of the movie Contact.
The Meteor shower was very visible. Even with the Vegas lights. Saw 6. I cannot remember the last time I could see them this close to the city.
August total: 66.7mi15 -
Great job @eleanorhawkins, now you just have to do that four more times, back to back!1

@ROBOTFOOD I lived in Vegas for a while, back in the 90s. I could not imagine running there in July/August during the day, and probably would be out there at midnight with you if I still did! I was a fat desk jockey when I lived there so running was not much of thought.1

Great job @cyoka13 on your continuous 2.25mi run. That is a great milestone. You are on your way!
Finally a morning below 80 (79F), and rained on me the whole time. Thought I was taking it pretty easy, but at the end of 8 miles, Garmin says I need 4 days of recovery! Sometimes Garmin is stupid. Hadn't had the HR-Cadence lock in a while. Guess it was time.

It was only 69F running this morning but the humidity was 100% with a dewpoint of 69 also so it was very oppressive. I ran in memory of my best friend and running buddy who died from cancer two years ago today. Me and a couple of other friends shared our favorite memories of her as we ran.
@MegaMooseEsq – It’s only August. Don’t give up on your year yet. Make it “yours” whatever you want that to be!
@ROBOTFOOD – I love the pictures that you post!

Yes. It is funny. His girlfriend was here for his BDay and they got into an argument over which part of the cake was the best part. She was arguing for the icing, and he was arguing for the "meat of the cake" - If they end up married I guess they can share cake slices! LOL5 -

Thanks, yeah only four and a quarter or so times. But I don't have to do it quite that fast. I just need to work out how fast I actually need to go and get used to that pace.

59.04/100 miles completed
I ran 6.26 miles today. It was supposed to be a little cooler today, and I guess if you just look at the temperature it was. But the humidity was higher and the dew point was 72°, so it was pretty brutal out there. As I expected we did not get the predicted rain, we just had the higher humidity. But it was a decent run. There was a little more of a breeze so that helped some and was really only too much wind for about a half a mile when I was almost done anyway.

5/18/19: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - Cancelled due to weather

Thanks to you both, and you're absolutely right - there's lots of year left to go!5 -
I've been out of the thread for a while. I asked this in the FB group but figured I'd throw it out here too.
So I'm going to start running this weekend. Doc said to come back slow so I was thinking of doing something like couch to 5k. The last time I did this was before apps (I had to print out the plan!). Should I get a free app or use some kind of plan from the apps I already have (nike, strava and garmin)? Or just go by feel?3 -

My doc suggested I comeback (last year), by running 1 min, walk 1 minute the first week. Then progress by adding minutes. So you could start off doing some slow intervals. 2/2, 3/3 or maybe even 5/5 if you feel good.
Love seeing a comeback!!2 -

When I started running I used the C25K app from Zen labs and I liked it a lot. I was starting as a non-runner though and hadn't heard of Strava and did not have a Garmin yet so I can't really compare it to those apps.1 -
