Went to Austin the weekend. There are so many good trails scattered about the city. Nice, crushed granite, shaded. I love being able to use them when I'm visiting. And the significantly lower humidity makes a huge difference in comfort. My husband did both of the runs with me. He's doing a good job keeping it with the training plan. Historically, he isn't great at sticking to a plan but I think having us on the same plan gives him a little extra motivation to stay caught up. I am a stickler for my plan!

Late night Mtn summit under the stars with a good friend. After grinding runs down in the Vegas valley in 115f the last 5wks, the mid 70s up top felt absolutely amazing. Just what I’ve been needing. A nice boost of motivation and the cap to a great week.

It was a nice 65F during this morning’s run. After the run I heard the weather forecast and it said something about the humidity increasing today. It was 91% this morning so I’m thinking the next step is rain! I fear you people in Texas and Memphis are sending your weather my way! Please keep it!
Congratulations on your races @PastorVincent (and Kristi), @MegaMooseEsq and @jele30!
Happy Birthday @skippygirlsmom!
This isn’t a running race report so feel free to skip! Friday evening me and two girlfriends traveled to Clinton, SC which is about a 3-hour drive. On Saturday morning we participated in a cycling event to raise money for the local hospice house. The mother of one of my friends who went with us was a patient at the house this time last year for a couple of weeks before she passed away. My friend learned about the ride while she was down there and wanted to do this ride in her mom’s memory. They had over 450 cyclists participate with distances of 14 miles, 30 miles, 50 miles or 62 miles. We rode the 30 mile route which was beautiful. Before the ride, the organizers released a single dove in honor of all their patients followed by a release of 14 doves for the 14 years this event has been in existence. After the ride they had a barbecue lunch and the SC Watermelon Queen was there handing out cold watermelon. If you’re a cyclist or know anyone who is, I highly recommend this event!

well run racers
happy birthday @skippygirlsmom
feel better @avidkeo I've had that frequently and it can be disorienting.
lack of run report: i didn't run. i totally fell off the wagon. I think that I'll "repeat" the week I skipped. As much as I am not a fan, it's looking like i'll be needing to get up at 4am to run. with my hypersomnia, i have to make time for a nap.
I skipped yesterdays run for the renaissance fair. it was Steampunk weekend and there were some great garb.9 -
@PastorVincent - incredible racing. Congrats to you and Kristi on all those races and great times! You and your wife are hardcore!
@MegaMooseEsq congrats on your race! I saw your post and can't find it in my quick scroll back but loved the pics and that is such a cool experience.
@Ringbearer2 congrats on you first mile!! That's awesome!
@skippygirlsmom happy birthday to you and congrats on completing some hard trail running!
@Squish815 congrats on a 10k personal best!
@jele30 congrats on your 5k and hope your ankle is ok!
Apologies to anyone I missed - I saw some other great pics and reports of good runs. Great job, all!

I had a fantastic, hard, tiring, and fun weekend at the Boston Spartan races. Actually Charlton, MA so I didn't make it into Boston itself (but I did have some lobster towards my #seafoodgoals). I am bruised, sore and exhausted today but it was amazing.
The Super (8+ miles, 28 obstacles) was on Saturday and I ran with a team of 20 from my gym. This is the 4th race we've done as a team and we completed our trifecta (Sprint, Super and Beast). The course was relatively flat, certainly compared to the other races we've done, but the trails were technical with lots of rocks and roots. I rolled my ankle slightly midway into the race but it held up okay. I hung in the back of the pack of our team because I needed to take it a little easy to be able to run again the next day, especially after the ankle tweak. I was extremely excited that I was able to do 25 out of the 28 obstacles, including most of the upper body/hanging obstacles that I could not do back in April at the Beast. I did not get the spear throw or the rope climb and I was furious about that. The rope climb was the very last obstacle again and the combo of exhaustion and slippery wet shoes and rope just was not happening. I swore I'd stay out there until I got it, but it was clearly not getting better with more attempts. Despite that and our very slow time, I felt really happy about this race.
Sunday morning I woke up stiff and sore and kind of regretting my life choices. But I felt better as I moved around and the ankle was not bad. I taped it up just as a precaution. The Sprint was 3+ miles, 20 obstacles. They took out the middle section that was on the Super course (which had all the hardest obstacles) and made a couple of the obstacles easier. I ran this one with a team of 3 other people, only 1 of whom I had met before. They turned out to be a really fun group and we had a blast. It seemed so much easier than the super even though I was a bit fatigued and sore going in. Spear throw and rope climb still my nemeses on this race. I guess I know what I need to work on!
A couple of pics in the spoiler. I have some recovery to do this week and then it's a 35-mile bike ride on Saturday - which I am totally untrained for and is now sounding like a bad idea. Ah well, it'll be fun.

Actually logging my run on the day I did it! That’s a rare occurrence for me lately.
Anyway, went out this morning with my husband for a 4 mile pace run per my training plan. Usually we just do his pace when we run together, but I like to try to do the pace runs at my actual race pace. Push myself a little and see what I can do. We started together and both were feeling a little stiff but as I got loosened up we got to a point where he decided to let me go ahead and he dropped back to a more comfortable pace for him. Ended up with an average pace about 15 secs a mile faster than my targeted race pace, which I was really happy with given the heat and how stiff I felt for the first mile or so. I was running blind because I forgot to charge my phone and my watch relies on it for the GPS info. I knew the route well so as long as I had a time I could calculate it back. It seemed like a good practice in learning how my pace feels rather than relying on my watch.

Haven't posted in awhile due to my calf injury, however I have tested it out the last few days and it seems that I can run/walk relatively pain free 90%. I'm hoping I can still do my race on Sept 14. I'll resume the training (where I left off) with run/walk intervals and take it from there.
Congrats to all the racers! Really enjoy reading all the reports, keeps me motivated!10 -

Notes:
Yesterday was the Groovin' Woodstock 7K XC race, the 4th in the MCRRC XC race series. Unlike the last club XC race, this one was a true cross country course - mostly grassy fields with a few sections on mud/dirt trails and one short section on a gravel road. It took place at an equestrian center, so for most of the race the ground was very uneven, with tons of tiny holes hidden under the tall grass. We got some good elevation changes for this one too- 505 ft according to Garmin, though I started my watch ~3 minutes late so I think it was a little more than that. My official time was 34:15, which was good enough for 3rd place female OA and 1st in the 25-29 age group! I stuck with the 2nd place woman for the first 2ish miles of the race; she kept dropping me on the uphills but then I'd catch back up on the down hills. I guess this is my sign to keep practicing those hills so that I can hopefully stick to her better at the next XC race!
Two race pics:At the start (I'm in the yellow singlet, black shorts, and black hat)
Coming up to the finish line, I felt even more tired than I looked
