I had a slight scooter accident before vacation, involving mostly my foot. it could have provoked the knee thing. I don't have a great doctor at present. Now the foot thing is acting up again. I have to get a foot MRI on Friday. And still follow up on the knee thing. I almost never went to the doctor even for checkups except Gyn before I was 40. Now it seems there's massive stuff to follow up on. I find I tend to slack off and not do all.
The cleaning person is a young woman from Portugal. She has to be here to share custody of her daughter and doesn't want to be here.
The 1st 2 times she was grouchy, but yesterday she was pleasant and spent more than half an hour after or so, talking about the issue with her daughter since I asked her about it, so I guess it just takes time to get used to one and other.
My physical energy is low, low, since I've had knee thing and can't go for brisk walks nor swims.
I'm muddling and dragging and getting by. Socializng a bit in evenings (grabbing a tea or drink w friend) sometimes to make up for it. sometimes I don't have time to meet friends in busy school year weekdays.
I'm glad to have had a good night's sleep and not too much pain. now the foot is making me limp! I feel like my body is just breaking down.
I had much starch/carbs yesterday : a GF small store-packaged pizza vegan (not very rich but still), a few rice cakes, and these things that looked like soy-burgers (high protein) but were more like rice-burgers (high carbs).
I have been a late-in-day overeater of late. That has not usually been my pattern over life. I just feel tired and not like always making an effort and snack on some rice cakes or crackers of whatever. It's been like that for months now.
Well, another day before us and can always be better.
Have a good day.

MICHELLE that's my friends opinion not mine. I'm not sure if the cafe here does have the adoption system or not but I agree with you it's a good idea. I love my friend but she does have some funny ideas abd I don't always agree with her.
LANETTE glad things went well, look after yourself
Been really bad weight creeping up need to buckle down starting today.
Weather still nice but not sure how long it'll last
Welcome new girls

My indulgent weekend has stalled my current downward run on the scale, but it's just a temporary hiatus. These plateaux are the norm for me. But I have done well since the beginning of the month and am edging ever closer to the Holy Grail of maintenance in the 150s.
Today I plan to declutter the surfaces in our master bedroom. I have baskets ready to tidy up the clutter which has accumulated over the summer. I already did the bedside tables, and want to finish the job.

I don't have any mail piles. Most of it goes straight in the recycling bin. If it needs attention I put it on the floor next to the sofa so it is staring me in the face. It rarely stays there more than a day. When it's been attended to I file it in a filing cabinet.
These days all our bills are automatic, so we rarely get a bill. Tradesmen send email bills and I pay online. My only bill is my credit card, which I hardly ever use, perhaps for clothes, and that goes on the floor until I pay it online with a future date when I have funds come in. It's always paid off.
I'm a bit OCD about clutter, so surfaces are mainly clear unless I use something all the time. DH gets on my nerves a bit with his pens, a rubber and a pencil sharpener for his Sudoku on his sidetable. I buy him nice toning coloured ones so I can bear it! He has a clip board and books at the end of his sofa. I have my tablet and the tv guide. (Essential for a happy marriage - a sofa each. I even have to have one each in a holiday home!) None of it takes more than five seconds to clear up if anyone is coming round. I am always straightening mats, coasters, appliances, etc, a hangover from my childhood OCD. My cleaner moves things and I have to put everything back in the absolutely right place.

went to the gym finally and, rather than working on cardio as I usually do, worked lots of machines working on arms, shoulders and abs. felt good but, now soooo tired: sleepy tired, like I need a nap.
ok, so I can take this leg problem as an opportunity to work on abs and upper body. my legs are fairly strong, I've spent many years and hours biking, walking, walking, walking, skating, walking, jogging, hiking.
I used to swim a lot for many years, but have totally stopped, got tired of laps and the chlorine in most pools seemed to not agree w body.
Now my arms and upper body are really week.
The 3 days of hiking pre-knee thing I used hiking poles and could feel the strength coming back.
On one should machine I could only do 5 reps w 0 weight!
All the other ones I used the minimum 5 k or 10k so.
I need to avoid overcompensating w upper body exercise; I had frozen shoulder a few years back.
I had a decent lunch:
salad w 100g cooked kidney beans, cuke, 15 g squash seeds, 15g avocado, 1 tsp olive oil, and vinegar,
hard boiled egg
raspberries
Small slice of fresh GF bread w tiny bit of butter
all yum and healthy feeling
plus a tasty but less healthy feeling GF cookie (not big)
I tracked for the 1st time in ages today.
I didn't want to be online much when hiking and away and totally stopped tracking.
I was finding it wasn't working but in fact I think at least it kept me at status quo or losing maybe a quarter pound or half pound a month. almost nothing, but still better than gaining, which I think I've done since I stopped tracking (and exercising due to knee thing).

Good morning ladies!
Janetr - sorry your future GS is back in the hospital but sounds like it's not unexpected and he's being taken care of just fine. I do not blame you for wanting to avoid surgery with your knee, crossing fingers they can do something about your knee with the minimum. Glad to hear your are getting over your sinus infection.
Yvonne - I read something recently about drinking coffee on an empty stomach and how the acid messes up the stomach's natural acid production. I found it on Facebook "In The Know:Foodie - Home" . I'd been drinking several cups of BLACK coffee for months when doing the 5:2 or IF. And wondering why my stomach ached, lol. Looks like decaf also has acid.
Heather - I told DH we'd might as well park the recycle bin out by the mailbox and just have the mail lady toss it on in there for us, lol. Maybe once a week we get something that is actually mail that needs action. Love getting bills online and paying them online.
Also missing Penny and Kylia!
Katla - has your DH made the plane reservations for you yet? And has he started the PT?
Welcome newbies, by the way. Please don't forget to add your name (or nickname - what you want your "handle" to be) and location - specific or general to every post. Helps us keep everyone straight, lol. And if you have a photo - a pic of you or a pet, etc., I know that helps me. Keep popping in and we'll soon get to know you.
A bit sore this morning, but slept fine. Sore throat from the tube. They gave pretty good discharge instructions with a list of do's and don't's.
But found it funny to read "OK to drive if not taking hydrocodone" which is what the Pre-Op nurse told me, she said I should be OK to drive in a few days. Then the next bullet on the list was "no driving for 2 weeks". Maybe they thought I'd be on painkillers for 2 weeks? I'll give the surgeon's office a call.
Thank you all for the good wishes!!
Sounds like a heat-wave coming for many of you; hope this is the final summer blast. If possible, look at photos of winter scenes or watch "Life below Zero" on television.
Have a fabulous day!!

It usually take a bit of time to show up. As for weight loss: maintaining a slow downward trend is the best way to lose, as it makes the new weight more sustainable.2 -
Hi! I'm 50, will be 51 in September. This is the time of year my arthritis starts getting really annoying, so I'm thinking up workarounds if I can't do my usual exercise routine on particular days. Would love to hear your solutions if you have similar issues.
About the coffee issue, there are low acid coffee beans out there. Also, adding milk helps take up the acid. I'm not a fan of heartburn either.5 -

Hi ... I'm 52 and I've got arthritis in my feet. I'm seeing a podiatrist right now for my feet -- I've been fitted with orthotics and have exercises to do.
Just recently MRIs have discovered a very early hint of osteoarthritis in my right hip and a part of my back. We're hoping that getting my feet right will help, plus I'm going to a physiotherapist-led pilates class once a week to work on range of motion and building some strength.

I read a book about organizing that said that being organized was not about how neat your house is. Her definition of organized was that everything had a place and you knew where to find everything that you have. Our house has several areas that appear "cluttered" but it is specific clutter that gets used and put away in a logical manner. Jake does his work and TV watching from several different places and he has "stuff" in these areas. I do all my work at the dining room table where I have my computer. I watch TV from the exercise bike and have some "stuff" nearby that I need to be able to reach. Everything in our house has an exact place so things are easy to find and easy to put away.
One of my friends just came back from south Texas where she was visiting son and grandchild. She said she loved the hot weather--temps over 100 F--and wished she lived there.

Carol - oh the necklace is gorgeous I miss pearl look! Your hair looks so nice 👍. Both of you look so cute together.
Lanette- That poor boy but their learning a lot about each other before marriage so that’s good.
Michele Nc- Daughter loves cat cafe’ her 1st one was in In Chicago lol 😂 the Navy kids lived in their cats sitting in their laps to running around. A lot get adopted but UK version might not be as friendly as the USA’s version. No cages just playing here.
Had to explain telephone books to my 20yr old Daughter y her friends lol 😂 that’s how I learned they had no clue they existed lol also showed her online version.
Banana and oranges takes me multiple uploads to get mine to take . Profile pics are a job in themselves lol. Sounds like your poor cleaning lady has zero family or friends nearby is a bad situation maybe forever if Daughter chooses to live there after 18. Here’s hoping things improve for her. 1 income too hard road.
We got 2 love seats one under a fan other away from it lol. I won’t both away from the fan but JR ...Can’t have back away from a wall for my climber. They have wide arms so I could feed JR he’s always been big. Doctors y us suspect gigantism but since it’s genetic both sides of our family no one has health issues from it we decided not to test. Doctors asked questions said they knew what we have so their not worried either. Great grandpa was 8ft tall. 3rd Cousin losing weight with me is 7ft. My 1st Cousin y his sons are 6”4-6”6 range. My nephew Hubby side is 9yrs old 6ft tall. Just our genetics 🧬. Exercise is key for JR y no or mild sports 🥎 cause joints forming too quick he needs to be able to sit out as needed so NO school sports! Payed private sports only so if need be yank him out! Thinking more guitar lessons to chess. Work with Dad so he can have him sit out if needed someday well Mommy can snap if needed lol 😂. JR sits with no booster at tables but we bought a bar stool restaurant table that’s for tall people so booster seat for it. He has desk chair mastered now. He sleeps in a full bed y couches are for heavy weights even baby one (Daughter tested the 150lb weight limit baby chair she was worried it didn’t look sturdy but it passed!) Got an adult scooter y a kids bike for age 6+yrs . Even his play tent has no roof.Hubby y me searching for his Christmas started buying must be his size y safe since he puts stuff in his mouth! 40lbs over 4ft tall already wide with woman sized head. So if anyone sees products for very huge 2 1/2+ ages let me know even if it’s for an 8yr old if I can put small parts back in a closet give him the main item they count too! (Insurance company got us car seats only charged us $100 for 2 toddler y 2 Older kids seats praise God for that!) DMV sent us their employee handbook for the laws on safety belts y car seats y boosters! They talked 3hours about it looked into it for week before calling back. They think he will be out of seat very early but as long as possible is key! Cheap medical products for kids also include! We can use it all! Even cheap diapers past sz 6! We’re still potty training but after that is still night time training y accidents!
SW 195
CW 159 (yo-yo at 156-164 range at the moment)
Goth chic- Welcome yeah isn’t there new coffees out there for those not wanting the norm? Thought there was alternatives too maybe I’m remembering something out dated now. Brain fog 🌫. Hubby switching to decaf doing the half decaf half regular tapering off regular route. Slow but getting there. My gastrologist says No coffee ☕️ as a kid lol y adult years. Haven’t seen him in awhile he knows I hate going y want to do natural route. Chicory coffee ☕️ one alternative, like I said not sure if they still have it or not.

Bananas - I think most people would find my OCD hard to live with with! If people are coming over I'm a fiend. The room in the house that is the worst is DH's study, but, as it's not my responsibility I can live with it. Some of the rubbish is mine, but it's out of my sight, so out of mind.
Janetr - Hoping things improve for both of you.
Barbie - You always say the right things! I have taken the step of transferring some money out of savings so I can buy Word. Haven't bought it yet though.
Made appointments for blood work and blood pressure later this week. Have to be on different days.
Still hot here, but due to change tomorrow.

I'm fresh off a week at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center in Durham, NC. I've been struggling with my weight for decades, so it's great to get refocused. MFP is one of the trackers that Duke Diet and Fitness recommends. :-)
I'm down 9.4 lbs in August.

For me, being organised means ...
-- that everything is up to date. Bills are paid, taxes are done, wills are done, insurance is sorted, emails are responded to, the emergency preparedness kit is up to date, all the medical information is filed and easy to find, and that we both know the sites we need to access and how to access them. In other words, if something bad were to happen to one of us, we wouldn't go through the stress I did when something bad did happen to my husband and I tried to figure out what needed to be paid, how to get into his computers, and what needed to be done.
-- that all the paper is filed. Everything that we don't need right now is in the filing cabinet in the appropriate folders ... which means that it is accessible if we need it. In fact, I'll go a step further ... that everything is scanned and safely stored in at least two locations with minimal paper.
-- that all our computer stuff is up to date. My website, my photos site, my photos, all my university stuff, etc.
Those would be the most important things.
Then the next step would be to minimise and streamline a bit with the goal of making the place a little easier to pack for our next move.
Our place is always going to look a bit "lived in".
We each have our own areas and call our areas our "nests". My nest could disappear into drawers and things pretty quickly if we happened to have someone over ... and his disappears somewhere pretty quickly too, if necessary. I'm not actually sure where it goes! But 90% of the time, we've got all our stuff around us.
I had a bit of a laugh at the meme below ... I've got another "nest" by my bed. A whole stack of books on the floor!! They're on the floor because the top of the night stand stores my personally devised "sleep system".
So those things don't bother me one bit ... but I do need to contact some places for quotes on content insurance. That's important!

Down another lb this morning. I am the calmest I’ve ever been concerning my weight/food issues. I am feeling healthy. My biggest struggle is sleep. I’m working on it. I got 7 hrs and 15 minutes last night! The Yogi bedtime tea helps a lot.

NYKaren: While you’re researching treadmills, look at eliptical trainers. They look pricey on line, but you get a full body workout and don’t pound your knees. I like the recumbent stationary “bike” at our gym. I can sit and pedal for a certain number of calories & it doesn’t pound my knees, either.
Pip: Great family photos!
I’ve got flights booked for visiting DD in October. She’s got loads of conflicts and company until then so that was the first opportunity. DH will not come along so I’ll have to fly on my own. I’ve done it before and didn’t particularly like it. :grumble:

This is our many issues he’s hitting weight requirements of a booster seat 💺 almost in a seat belt ! So yeah if a product fits a 6yr old in your life it will fit JR he wears sz 6clothing.

Welcome Gothchiq. I am going to check into low-acid coffee, thank you for that tip! I guess the dark roast has less acid, and that's what I've been drinking. Adding lots of milk. Hate to give it up, it's my drug of choice, lol.
Lesley - welcome!! Sounds like that Duke Diet and Fitness plan is the one for you. Congrats on the loss! I agree, the MFP tracker is one of the best I've used as well.
Katla - glad you are booked for the DD trip. What time of the day will you be flying out? While I didn't like the thought of flying, I was always lucky in finding interesting people to talk to while waiting for the flights it seems. And on one return trip from Chicago to Portland, I sat by a lady who said she needed to come have her son pick her up on arrival. I asked her where she lived - she was just down the road from me. So she hopped into my car and we had a great chat back home on the one-hour drive.
I wanted to comment about how grateful I am for the Strong Women Stay Young strength training. Having strong arms to lift myself out of my chair, and strong legs to come up to a stand w/o stressing my belly is wonderful. Several years ago I would have needed to use the "rock/lurch" to get up, lol. And nice to be able to bend at the knees to pick something up off the floor w/o stressing my tummy as well.
Amazing that 8# arm weights and 10# ankle weights a couple times a week make such a huge difference, increasing core muscles as well.

Did Jane Fonda’s Firm and Burn DVD. I’m not quite sure how I feel about this DVD. It’s VERY low impact, she repeats moves some but not too much. Reminded me a lot of Leslie Sanson’s DVD’s. Anyway, the plan for tomorrow is to take the water aerobics class.
Since we’re leaving for Denise’s Friday and will be there thru Tuesday and my usual day to take the Actonel is Sunday, I’m going to take it tomorrow. I usually don’t do anything exercise-wise before I go to the water class, so I’m thinking that’ll work out. Like Katla (I think it is), I’ll just sit at the computer for the ½ hour. If this works, I may start taking it on the day when I go to the water aerobics class. Then at least I can do a DVD on Sunday where I need to lay down like a yoga or pilates DVD.
Vince spoke to Denise yesterday and PJ is still in the bassinette, she was wonder if I’d help her with transitioning him into the crib. I sort-of think that Pete wants to keep him in the bassinette in their room. KJ – any hints? I’m thinking that at first when he takes a nap he could be in the crib but someone should be in the room with him. He’s used to someone being in the room, he’s in their room at night, he’s in the crib at daycare but there’s someone in the room then.
Bananas – I hope things go well for you at the doctors and the knee isn’t badly messed up. I’m a late night snacker, too. I’ve found that things that are easily digested, like crackers or pretzels or applesauce, are pretty good to have. A lot of times I take those small containers of applesauce (like 4oz) and put the container in the freezer. Makes a good, sweet “frozen ice”. In previous years, I would get so very itchy that my arms would actually bleed because I’d scratch my arms in my sleep. Well, lately after I get out of the pool I put body lotion on my arms. Now they’re not itchy. I bet the chlorine dried out my skin
Pat in OH – thanks for the lovely saying. I really liked it. I seem to remember seeing something like it a while ago, but it’s still a good reminder. Thanks for posting
I really don’t have any mail piles, either. Vince, on the other hand….. If something needs attention (like my subscription to Nutrition Action Healthletter did just recently), I put it by my computer to take care of. Then, after I take care of it, it gets put in the proper place.
Gothchic – welcome! Where is your arthritis?
