eep, can't edit my post? I forgot to add the workout. It's either a half hour on the elliptical and a 15 minute cooldown walking on the treadmill or else it's half an hour on the exercise bike and half an hour of moderate weights. On bad days I'll just substitute whatever I can using whatever body part is least bad.3

Gothchic- It does that I can’t edit mine either or it skips me to the last page I have to remember where I was! Or it won’t post got to copy refresh y paste. Still the best site out there so gotta live with it. I found hot tub the cool pool then hot tub at a local gym helped my rheumatoid arthritis days (genetic Dads side so he gets shots now has an upside down hanging rack that looks medival torture chamber). I use a lot of Thera-gesic Maximum cream (has pain reliever) y biofreze company spray y salonpas pain patches . Some of the ladies here like that new stuff but illegal in my state still Brain fog 🌫 the name anyone remember good for dogs too think made from canibis stuff . Swear have Peri menopause period that soaks through makes my mind go with it! I’ll remember it when we don’t need the name anymore.
Vibrators y heating pads y cooling pads help certain areas. I have to wear ankle brace sometimes to sleep then off by morning when it acts up. So many tricks but they work today but not tomorrow. Let’s face it our bodies have been through a lot health isn’t helping any now of days. Hugs just do your best it’s all we got. Theirs days I can’t exercise at all others I knock it out of the park. Just go by your body y Doctor for exercise eat right it will get results with time.
Janet - Definitely working on losing my weight keeping it off glad to here weight loss helped yours.

Type 2 diabetes - I was well-controlled for 4 years, but bad stress-eating last summer and fall through me out of control. I modified a few things and lost 15 lbs, but I was still not doing what I needed to do. I saw a diabetes educator/registered dietician in February. We decided on a 1600 calorie exchange plan. I struggled to keep up with the exchanges. So we converted everything to numbers and put the macronutrients into MFP. I joined Planet Fitness so I could exercise when the weather stinks - no excuses. Since February I have lost 50 lbs for a 65 lb total loss. I’m back in control and still on metformin. I’d love to lose another 45 lbs. I’m amazed at how great I feel now.

Bananas: It's everything except my hips, shoulders, neck and back. Wrists, knees, ankles and hands are afflicted to the point that I need compression. It's difficult. I've learned that I must exercise while the sun is still up because come nightfall I'm boned. In the winter this is challenging. I'm always looking for workarounds I can use on the bad days. Worst days I need a cane and it's a wash but that isn't common.eep, can't edit my post? I forgot to add the workout. You've got 1 hour to edit your post and after that it is locked.
Have you seen a physiotherapist ... especially one that specialises? Sometimes they can really help. My feet were almost completely inflexible (which we've determined would have caused some of my hip issues when I ran), but I've got some movement back! I noticed it about a week ago, when my arthritic big toe joints clicked during one exercise. Never thought I'd be so excited about a little click, but means that joint is moving enough again to click.

Great British Bake Off starts again tonight. I have boycotted it for a few years because the company who makes it switched from the BBC to Channel 4 for the highest bidder. I was incensed! Most of the original presenters left in protest. Now time has passed and I am prepared to forgive their greed and watch it again. How frail am I.

Maybe that explains why it went off the air here a few years ago.
I miss it.
But on the other hand, maybe it's a good thing. I always want to make the stuff they're making.

Connie - great news regarding your Mom.
Luci - not my story but my Mom is Type 2 diabetic. She was insulin dependent 4 shots a day and still struggled to control it when she started showing signs of Alzheimer’s. She was eating to excess so my brother decided to deliver all her meals to her. He went to a dietician, found out what her portions should be, if they suggested something he knew she wouldn’t eat he asked for alternatives. In 11 months she had lost 60lbs and was down to one metphormin a day. This was without any exercise to speak of. He didn’t take away all treats, he just made them regular portions a couple nights a week instead of every night. He also on Friday nights took her out to eat and there were no restrictions that night, she could order whatever she wanted. She has been in a nursing home now for almost 2 years and is back on more meds now.
I am caught up reading again, still not a lot to say.

I've never found an elliptical machine I'm comfortable on either. The foot things are so far apart ... like trying to walk in the old fashioned wide woven snowshoes ... it's just not natural.
I'm also not fond of stationary bikes because the saddles are way too wide. But I don't mind my bicycle on a trainer in front of a TV showing me Zwift.
In addition to my bicycle on the trainer with Zwift, we've got a good treadmill now which I really like, and a Concept2 rowing machine which I also really like.
We have a small weight bench which I need to start using. And I've been picking up stuff that our physiotherapists have been recommending and which we've been using in the physiotherapist pilates classes. Just yesterday I got thick bands which my husband was using in the class, so we'll give those a go at home too.
It's really nice to be able to get a good workout at home!

Hi Gals,
Janetr – is your house/ cars and yard ok?
Connie – that is great news!!!!
Busy here, its been hot and that means a lot of harvesting at the garden, the new management (as of June) is shocked that I can grow this much food in the garden. Really I only brought in 1 pound of basil and 5.5 pounds of cherry tomatoes today, I could have brought far more but ran out of harvest time. Its almost like these folks don’t know where food comes from, but they are all naturalists (not the naked ones; but the educators of earth science). Today, I had lunch with 5 of my colleagues (6 total) and that was 2 with doctorates, 2 masters degrees, me (I have a BA) and a kid in high school - they are all degrees in the sciences (not me) but none of them talk down or are intimidating. Sometimes I can carry my side of the conversation, other times I am in just learning mode. I wish when I was a kid one of these folks had been my science teacher, I might have been interested instead of running as fast and as far away as I could.
Still tons of embroidery, which is harder with the heat, but I keep plugging along.
Definitely doing better than last year on the finances. Hip Hip Hooray!

@ydalley Yvonne, the iron I took was supposed to be with the meal. I also remember that caffeine wasn't to be consumed at the same time as iron. Maybe it depends on the type of iron. We actually had many heat waves this year so I can relate about automn. I was really feeling that at the time of the extreme heat wave in July.
There are such mixed reviews about coffee these days. Good for this, bad for that.
@JRsLateInLifeMom Amber, he doesn't look 4ft tall in the photos. He must be a handful!
@gothchiq you may find some of the women here have some great advice. I'm just discovering frequent joint issues.
@GodMomKim congrats on the financial situation. That's major!
@ginnytez yikes for your sister's situation. Does the housemate have family, pension, etc. That said sometimes even family can't take care of a person (lifting, getting to bathroom, cleaning self, etc.) At 80 it would not be unheard of to move to a health care place if needed. When my mom was no longer able to care for her self and she was more than people could manage (needed more or less care for washing, moving, etc) she first went to a group home for the elderly and then to a nursing home. Surprisingly perhaps, though the group home looked nicer, the nursing home was much nicer. At the group home it was like a duplex with the family on one side and the 6 elderly on the otherside (with microphones etc for emergencies). The middle aged couple who ran the place seemed fairly harried and annoyed. In a nursing home there were social workers, nurses aids, some of with whom she really connected, communication classes, and so on, many options for the elderly even if it didn't look very beautiful. One nurses aid would take her out to the patio sometimes and read her poetry (she was blind then, having refused cataract operation for several years, before later having the operation and regaining her sight partially). In the group home the 2 caretakers didn't have time for things like that and the only activity I recall was a pastor who would come and possibly sing with the elderly who could and would sing, maybe once a week or less. She was much more stimulated and connected in the huge nursing home. Is there an option of moving her out to a care place? In ny state if someone didn't have the means the nursing home was government funded. My mom had a very low income and they took all but 50 dollars pocket money per month to pay for the hospital.3 -

It has been so hot here, I managed to cut the grass at the back early morning, on Saturday, I knew I was visiting mysister in law in Shipley on Sunday, so left it an hour before cutting the grass at the front too, I was exhausted by the time I had finished. Felt good to get it done though.
My sister in law was upset to hear that her elder sister is having treatment for breast cancer, they haven't spoken to each other in years, so maybe this will bring them closer, I hope so, life is too short to be falling out.
It's a little cooler today so far thank goodness, at least I'll be able to get things done without having to stop and rest every five minutes
I've been following Fly Lady, but can't seem to get into a routine, even though I try to follow her emails about the zones. I'm almost there with a morning routine, and I have decluttered a lot (still a long way to go though) it is easier now that I have retired, but need to be more ruthless and not move things from one spot to another.
Oh no, it is raining, better dash and get the washing in. Think we may have thunder storms later.
Take care everyone

Connie-great news on your Mom! Also good job with weight loss.
Regarding SIL situation, it is really dependent at this time on what Doctor's say she (housemate) is capable of. Poor SIL gets that they are concerned with elder rights but is feeling like she has not rights concerning her own house she has paid for. She let her stay there because her family is not overly supportive. Will need to see how the medical stuff goes. I have a nephew who is an attorney who will help with eviction process if it comes to that. SIL knows housemate can't really function on her own (she can present well to doctor for limited time), so she has the concern that if she goes to her own apartment with no support she will die. I have faith it will work out. SIL has done this for years because it was the right thing to do. Just tough to see her so stressed when her own health is not well. I can't make decisions for her, so I am just trying to listen and support her.
Hope everyone has a good day!

morning ladies~
well yesterday i worked 7:45- 6:11 pm as Mary was out and we keep the schedules full, and then they fall apart, the last week of summer vactions, sickness ,school . and so the Dr pulls me into the back office and accuses me og messing up ,what are you doing to drive these patients away, you have been doing this since March and by now you should have a way of keeping these people and there appointments together..OY i hate getting talked down to ,but I just want to get through this week and I will worry about a job next week.
my DD and DGD went up to her new school for an open house and they were both so super excited about it, Taliah said she wanted to teleport to today so she could be there right then, lol
the only kicker with it because it is about 1/2hr away with many stops to pick kids up she will be on the bus 3 hrs a day a hour and a half each way. but she is super excited which thrills me..
a couple of days until both reunions and I have to get it together.. working a full day tomorrow and then off for the weekend..4 -
So ... I guess if I'm going to be stuck on an island for an unknown period of time, it might as well be a pretty island ...

DH grumpy this morning.
I'm going out to meet my old school friend for lunch at the fish and chip restaurant. We are having an Old Age Pensioner cheap lunch. I didn't want to invite her to my house as she has a lot of negative energy and I thought I'd keep it short in a neutral location. She has cancer, so I'm trying to be nice, but I don't want to get more involved with her than is polite.
Still haven't downloaded Word.

@grandmaillie getting talked down to is the pits. what a messed up boss. he sounds like he has a poor temperament. wow for 1.5h each way trip! how old is she? homework or catching up on sleep (or socialising?) on the long rides? my sis once had an hour busride commute for a few years and she missed the people from the bus when she stopped.
@machka9 stunning island. I have a couple of friends who live in Tasmania. it seems so exotic to me when they post their pics on facebook. they are from aussi though so it's not far from their home. I think they still do a big trip every few (maybe 5?) years or so, visiting family and friends in the old world (France and Germany). I found Australians would travel less often but for longer trips. maybe with time you can organise something in a year or two? I know that doesnt sound ideal now but time passes so quickly and the planning can be fun. I know it's hard to plan w your dh's current state but maybe there are options to look into, with longterm planing options. (stability enough to travel w time and support in the arrival country or developing support in Tasmania to look after dh and allow you to slip away for a week or two..., for example).
I know it's not sure, but little is as we age: our own minor or major disabilities, our loved ones illnesses and passing, financial hits...political and governmental happenings. My lovely hiking trip was a bust as a hiking trip due to knee/foot issues. I had put it off for a couple of years at least due to little issues in this or that part of the body. (not this year, not this year...) I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to backpack again, and even looong backpack free hikes I'll have to see. (where I was someone can drive your backpack from place to place for 8 euros a day. definitely better than destroying one's bones, cartilage, tendons, etc.)

I saw a blurb that a new season of The Great British Baking Show would drop on Netflix in September sometime. I'm not sure of the exact date.

Tasmania is a state in Australia. I'm an Aussie too ... a Canadian-Australian and my husband is all Australian.
Australians do travel quite a bit, but more often to parts of Asia probably because it's just up north. Hong Kong is a relatively inexpensive 8-hour flight from Melbourne. Singapore is about 6 hours. Or New Zealand which is about a 5.5 hour flight.
Going to Canada, however, is almost a 2-day trip. And then it takes a couple days to get over the jet lag. So yes, if we go that far we go for longer trips ... 3 weeks minimum!bananasandoranges wrote: »maybe with time you can organise something in a year or two?
We don't know ...
My husband could probably manage a trip to the mainland. We have nipped over to Melbourne for a weekend conference. It took a lot out of my husband, but was just manageable. With some planning we could probably manage another trip to the mainland for longer ...
However, because he's still on Worker's Comp, he's not allowed to leave the state (of Tasmania) for more than a 2 or 3 days and he may remain on WC for years to come.
It's the law.
But fortunately, Tasmania is stunning!
This is easy walking distance from where we live ...

HOly CATS Ladies!- Over 150 posts since I posted day before yesterday! lol We are a talkative group! I am only to page 87, but need to jump in, here, to answer Michele.
Michele- When Denise and Pete are ready to transition baby to his own room/bed, two things will help him sleep well. First, a sound machine. IF they have a baby monitor, it probably comes with different white noise choices. For most kids the static white noise does a good job of blocking out the sounds of mom and dad talking and moving about the house. Another really good thing to do is to sleep with the child's crib sheet and blanket; before making up the bed, so that it smells like mom. Sounds weird, but babies can be comforted by the smell of mom. There is a video making the rounds on facebook currently, of a (maybe one or two month old) baby crying while dad cares for him, the minute dad puts a blanket that has mom's smell on it on the baby, the baby turns his face into the blanket and stops crying. Pretty cool. KJ5 -
Connie Great news about your mom!
Heather Your story about your cancer friend's negative energy strikes a chord - I hope I remember this when/if I ever become the "cancer friend". It does no one any good to go around being bitter & negative & martyrish - at least not all the time - & it puts people off that could be very supportive and helpful during one's last days on earth.
Kelly This video? This is very sweet, made my morning!
