Lisa in AR, i understand your feelings about your mom’s note. I had one from my late husband saying how much he loved me - unheard of from him - that was in a purse somewhere. I don’t know which purse or what I did with it, probably donated it. I’ve not found it in several years of sporadic searches. I DID find a letter my mother sent me not long after I’d left for my freshman year at college in a batch of memorabilia my late stepmother sent me before she died. I was among things dad had that he’d never sorted through. That’s a real treasure to me, because my mom was ill with the cancer that killed her a few months later, though we didn’t know what the trouble was yet.

Heather, Writing your memoir is a major passion and force in your life. It is the right thing to spend some money to have the very best tools for your work. It is just like buying the best ingredients for your cooking or choosing the best cruise for your special trips.

Lannette glad you are home and the anti nausea patch is doing its job. Take it easy and don’t try to do too much too soon, even if you feel up to it.

Terri,
The cliff notes version of Sunday basket is that you sort mail as it comes in, trash what needs trashing and put the rest in your Sunday basket. Once a week ( she does Sunday) you go through it, pay the bills and file.
Mine has been known to go past a week, but I always grab the bills out and pay them. It at least corrals the papers to file in one place.
Ahhh! I already operate a similar system for mail, but without the basket. I have an old toast rack that sits on the hall cupboard and file bills there. Trash goes straight into recycle bin. Most of our monthly utilities bills are paid automatically. We get discount for doing it that way. Also set reminders on my phone to pay other bills just in time.0 -

Lanette I'm glad you're home and doing well. Thanks for letting us know.
Carol love the anniversary picture. After three marriages for me, Jack and I will celebrate our 10th in a couple of months. I've never made it to 10 before.
My daughter just messaged me that my granddaughter 's boyfriend was taken to the ER in his small SW Texas town and once again sent up to Lubbock. They had to insert a chest tube as he has fluid in his lung and heart. She said its fairly common with broken ribs and punctured lung. P!ease pray and/or send good healing thoughts for him
I have an appointment Thursday morning with the surgeon regarding my left knee replacement that has slipped. I really really don't want more surgery. The actual surgery doesn't bother me and I have a high threshold for pain, but since my gastric bypass I cannot seem to handle any type of pain meds. I get killer headaches and have hallucinations and I don't want to go through it again. I've had 10 surgeries in my adult life and I am so done.
I had a full blown sinus infection last week and was miserable, feeling better now.
Love you my friends,

Happy National Women's Equality Day!
"The United States Congress passed the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granting women full and equal voting rights on this day in 1920. Every year on August 26, we commemorate this right with National Women’s Equality Day." A little ironic perhaps, considering all efforts to ensure equal pay for the same work have failed, but at least we still have the vote.
Michele - I don't know about making flavored yogurt from the get-go. I just make plain yogurt and add fruit or flavorings to it as needed when I dish out a serving.
Okie - We are lucky to have high ceilings in our home, which means that there's about two feet of empty space up above the pantry that isn't in use. My eventual plan is to open up the wall there and add a door so we'll have space to store canning jars, appliances we don't use real often, etc. I'll have to keep a stepstool handy to get to it, but it would free up some space in the pantry.
Meg - !! Glad you are feeling better!
Bananas - My favorite part of the State Fair is the livestock. Doesn't matter to me if it's buggy races, eight-in-hand exhibits, draft horse pulls, chickens, lambs, rabbits... I'll go to any exhibit where I get to see animals. I used Fly Lady for awhile years ago... a lot of her ideas were helpful but I swear all I really needed was whatever kind of drugs that woman was taking. She had enough energy for about five people!
Heather - Congratulations on the lotto win! I sympathize about the laptop. I do not like Windows 10, and I don't appreciate the fact that all the software companies basically want you to rent their software these days. I just had to drop a large sum to keep using the Corel tool I need for work, and anticipate eventually having to do the same thing for Adobe Acrobat although for now I'm nursing along an ancient version. Have a feeling once I'm forced to "upgrade" to Windows 10 from Windows 7 next year I'll have to spend a bunch more to keep everything running. Makes me highly resentful.
Annie - Glad you had fun at the renaissance festival. People aren't kidding when they say youth is wasted on the young! We still go to a lot of festivals too, but we spend more time resting between wanders than we used to!
Katla - We had a big upright deep freeze but when we moved to this house we had nowhere to put it we got rid of it and replaced it with a small chest freezer. The new one fits better, but I hate it! You have to unload the blasted thing to get to anything. Think I'm going to have to buy some bins or something to help organize the freezer if we ever want to see anything from the bottom layer again.
Tracey - Think you should tell the daughter that any of her stuff doesn't spark happiness at your house either is going bye-bye! Philip and I desperately need to declutter, and I think we're ready but the size of the job is just so overwhelming I have a hard time getting started. I need to look into paying someone to help us with it.
Rebecca - Oh, I love the Mehmood quote! Reminds me of the Isak Dinesen quote about salt water - sweat, tears, or the sea - being the cure for anything.
Philip and I did some work on the catio Friday afternoon but it was SO HOT. We sat and rested for two or three hours but I was still feeling worn out when we got to the blood bank and sure enough my hematocrit was too low to donate so we made the trip for nothing. The whole anemia thing is getting really really old - nobody seems to be able to tell me why. I eat a good diet, I take an iron supplement, and I still have chronic issues with anemia. After doing some reading, I'm going to try cutting down on coffee. There's no clear evidence that it inhibits iron absorption in most people, but I do drink a LOT of coffee. So maybe limiting myself to a more reasonable intake will help. At any rate, I don't have much to lose by trying it. Anything to help me get my dragging hiney up off the ground.
Speaking of which, time to drag that hiney onto the Nordic Track for a workout. Have a lovely evening!

Barbie: Thanks for the wise advice on the trip. You are helping me make hard choices. I wanted my adventure and I will be dumped into airports instead. Clearly, I’m going to have to compromise but I’m not happy about it. :flowerforyou:
Mary from MN and AZ: Thanks for your encouragement. I don’t have many options. “You can’t always get what you wa-ant . . .” :ohwell:
I want and need to see my grandchildren. I’ve been trying my best to have DH participate, too, but he won’t. I wanted to do the RV road trip for the adventure of it, but DH is clearly not able to spend that many hours in a vehicle at this time. I’m going to make DH find and book the flights, though. (Color me passive-aggressive.)
Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon
Unfortunately, we don't always get what we want.
I want to see my family and friends in Canada, and spend some time travelling and cycling there.
I'd like to travel in general ... I had a dream the other night that my husband and I popped over to New Zealand for Christmas. It was lovely.
But I have two options:
1) Stay in Tasmania.
2) Arrange some sort of care for my husband and go by myself.
I'm getting bored with the first option (Tasmania isn't that big!) but I definitely don't want to take the second option.
So ... we stay in Tasmania.
Unfortunately, that's life ... attempting to make the best of what we've got.klanders30 wrote: »Katla I’m glad you’re moving towards the visit. And I’m with you on getting DH to help with the flights.
I’m leaning toward a treadmill purchase. Starting the research phase of things. I still gave my gym until the end of September.
NYKAREN
My research phase was about a month before I settled on one that I like. And it is lovely having a treadmill at home! Many times in the past, I would have skipped exercise in the evenings ... now I hop on even for just 10 or 15 minutes which often turns into more.

This is the way we operate too ...
Rubbish is tossed right away.
The few other bits of snail mail are placed on my computer for me to see when I get home from work. These days, most of the mail we get are letters to remind or notify my husband about upcoming appointments.
Bills are mostly paid automatically ... in fact, this has just reminded me that I might try to set another one up to be automatic. It annoys me.

Hi friends. I am doing well; just need to get back in the habit of coming here each day. DD#2 and BF were here over the weekend. We ate out and saw a movie: The Peanut Butter Falcon. It's a reboot of Tom Sawyer with the main character having Down syndrome. It was fantastic. I am meeting with a health coach tomorrow; we'll see what that brings!5
-
Did one segment of 10MS Butt Lift DVD then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Firm & Burn DVD.
Kate UK – “cat café are prisons”???? I would think the opposite because they give more of a chance for the cat to be adopted and isn’t that what we’d all like to see?
Lanette – good luck to you Update: glad you’re home and all went well
Katla – good for you going!
Terri – welcome! Do you do hand or machine quilting?
JR – our local theater was doing a show (I don’t remember which one it was), it was set in something like the 1950’s. I was talking to one of the guys who was working on it and it was interesting…the kids in the show had no idea about jacks or a phone on the wall, things like that
Janetr – prayers for your gd’s boyfriend. I hope everything goes well for you at the doctor’s
Yvonne – any idea of the calories in the yogurt in the IP? How do you log it?
After exercise went to the Salvation Army, got a shirt, then Aldi then Habitat for Humanity. See, Denise has this basket on her toilet with these washcloths in it. She’s pretty particular, they have to be folded a certain way and the taller ones in the back. Anyway, when I was there I wound up taking everything out and using the basket for my toiletries since there isn’t a whole lot of room in the bathroom. Well, I remembered that HFH usually has a lot of baskets so I got one for us to use for our toiletries. Only 25cents, so I guess we can live with that.
Then bowling, ceramics, then mahjongg.

Caught up. Temp today 103 with heat index of 111. I am so tired of this heat. Rita, I can sympathize with you as it is too hot to go outside.
Meg- glad you are ok. Take care of you.
Lanette- happy that your surgery went well and you are home.
Happy anniversary to Carol. Cute picture.
Finished cleaning and organizing my kitchen. Will start on master bath tomorrow.

Tracey In Edmonton4 -
Hi folks! Just checking in. My weight loss efforts have been up and down, I return to my doctor in November and I’m determined to be down 10% by then.
Lanette - So glad you're surgery went well and that you're home. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Teri - Welcome! This is a great group. I think many of us are over 60. I just had my 62nd birthday.
Vicki - Rain, Rain Go Away! Come again another day. But, spread out and hit the dry spots! Praying for all effected.
Carol - Happy Anniversary!
Heather - I would stick with Word. And, I love Midsomer Murders. I'll have to see if it aired here and if my DVR recorded it. I don't watch much television. But, I have a few shows recorded regularly and catch them up when I get deep couch sitting time.
Still reading through messages.

Super rainy day here, but comfortable temperatures. Supposed to be hotter than Hades by Saturday. I knew summer wasn’t done!
Hoping to get the results of my mom’s scans tomorrow. Praying all are negative.
It’s not been a good workout month. Seems I keep having multiple things to do. I think I’ve made it to the gym about 5 times all month. I have walked outside the last 4 nights.

@Machka I had never heard of cat cafés. Very cute. Sounds kind to the cats for the most part in the Usa versions. I just read that there is one in Paris too. I'm sorry about the travel limitations. I know it doesn't resolve all, but are you able to convince some of your family and friends to pop over and see you? I would go to Tasmania if I had close friends or family there inviting me over. Great that you use your TM! So many people buy equipment and then just leave it there to take up a room.
@Kjlamore Kelly, I hope you feel better.
@lhscapil Lanette wishing you a quick and happy recovery.
@cityjaneLondon Heather Cute photo. I believe the most common microsoft office compatible freeware used to be Open Office and then was, if I'm not mistaken, sort of replaced by Libre Office. I've been using them for years. But I can understand the need to stay w same software etc. I re-bought a Mac computer last time cause I was in a busy period and not free to get used to switching over. (Next time I plan to switch to a good quality Pc)
@AZTeri2016 Teri, Welcome! Congratulations on your recent weight loss.
@Vickil57 I'm so sorry about the flooding. Are you still able to go to the concert?
@janetr7476 sending healing thoughts for your granddaughter's boyfriend. I'm so sorry about your knee and surgeries.
@Ydally Yvonne, I didn't really stay on the flylady mailing list for more than a few days or weeks, as is was overactive and, yes, a little hyper, but I adopted the 15 minute timer sessions and adapted it to my own needs, and try to keep the sink area clean. On anaemia, I was more or less anaemic my whole life, always at least slightly and very extremely at one point in late 30s. When I finally stopped eating gluten at one point due to other symptoms, the anaemia stopped. I'm not saying that's it for you. Im my case as I understand it the gluten was irritating my innards and causing poor absorption of some nutrients. Do you take iron pills?
