Today I ran 7.51 miles along my favorite trail. My shins and right knee were really tight and sore at first and I was afraid it was going to be another rough one, but after the first mile or so they loosened up and I actually found a good rhythm. My left glute got a bit whiney and is absolutely telling me about it right now, but still, much better than it has been.
I set my watch to buzz at me if I went faster than 11’15” and that was a good idea. Every time I started going too fast I made myself breathe through my nose, which really forced me to slow down. I think my next long run I’ll set it at 11’30” and see what that feels like. My dad is visiting and said he'd maybe bike along with me, assuming he can bike that slow, so I can actually practice my “easy conversation” speed.
I stopped for water several times but didn’t need a single walking break, which made me very happy. I was pretty toast by the end of the run, but I think that was mainly from under-fueling, since I’d only had a small protein-shake-laced coffee and cottage cheese with blueberries before heading out. Not enough carbs!
I'm feeling better so far this week. Not 100%, but at least 75%.

I hope when it comes time for a replacement car, you have other dealership options.3 -
@autumnblade75 - IME the sensor for the tire pressure is in the tire, so it is probably still telling your car it is low despite it being in the trunk. You might want to take that tire to some cheap tire place and have them plug it and refill it with air.
You can test this just by going to a gas station and putting air in it and see if the light goes out.1 -

SHOULD not be, but often is sadly. I would definitely take my business elsewhere though if at all possible.2 -
It should not be your job to check the Dealership's work. That's why they have a Service Manager.

I have had a few positive mechanic experiences, but nothing nearby - I don't really prefer to drive an ailing vehicle 20 miles with the check engine light on. Which is how I stumbled upon them in the first place - what was closest to me when the car stopped working!
I think I'm going to go back to buying from private citizens, instead of dealerships. I had better experiences with cars back in the early 90's. And they were definitely less expensive - which leaves a little something to FIX EVERYTHING. If only I could find a place that did proper fixing. In this county.

Had places to be so I got out early with Hobbes the Vizsla for a short little recovery run after yesterdays long run. Didn't have time for the 5miles on the plan but did what I could. It never really cooled off much overnight and was already pretty hot so keeping it short was a good idea anyways. We have agility class tonight and I am really hoping it will have cooled off a bit by then.

I'll see what the gauge says on the spare, but really my car is not that advanced. It has crank windows. That was a positive selling point for me.
I think I'll drag the spare out and leave it in the garage. There's probably a point at which it stops reading, right? It'd be interesting to see what kind of range it's got.
But I have no idea how the sensors work - my car only has a light to tell me to check them. My husband's Camaro has a whole video screen that reads out how many PSI each tire has. I use the gauge on all 4 tires to find the problem. Or not find the problem, as the case may be. At least this time it's not flashing! Same dealership, and they only changed the oil that time. Made a note on my paperwork that I was aware that the drain plug was not appropriate to the vehicle. That is not what I said. I told them that the previous mechanic had indicated that the drain plug bolt was all gummed up with silicone, and he thought the guy before him might have been trying to seal a leak, which might indicate that I needed the drain hole rethreaded and an oversized drain plug installed. I wanted the Chevy dealership to check that out. I had a very unsatisfying back-and-forth with the service manager about that, 6 months ago.
I gave them another try because the bolt, despite anyone's misgivings, doesn't seem to be leaking. Shame on me.1 -

A nearly unprecedented 6 mile run on a Monday! I intended to get at least 5 if I could get out of work early enough, and I somehow managed to do so. It was almost 80 degrees, so not terrible but warmer than it has been for a few days. I started from the gym again but looped around a little differently to try to avoid monotony and take advantage of a downhill finish. When I got 5 miles done, I decided just to finish out an hour, and then I was close enough that I wanted to finish out 6. And then I started to think I should just get a 10k done, but realized I was heading into craziness and I was running out of time to get to my strength training class.
I was super sweaty when I arrived and immediately was sent to do 5 minutes on the Jacob's ladder and 10 minutes on the stairmaster in a rotation with a couple other people. At that point I was somewhat regretting my choice of running 6 miles beforehand. We also did some squats and wall sits and I think my legs are going to be unhappy with me tomorrow. Just in time for hill night!
Pretty close to on track for meeting my goal for this month. The schedule is tight this week but I should be able to get there - although long run might have to move to Sunday and that's a new month.7 -
@autumnblade75 You'll probably have to take it back to the dealer to have them reset the switch for the tire pressure. They should have done it when they changed the tire. It'll only take a minute. Better than checking them and freaking out all the time.
Great job on the runs everyone. I am on my way home from another trip to Florida where I did NOT do any exercise to count. My granddaughters and I did go out for a couple of bike rides and a very short walk/jog. They are 7 and 10 and think they can do more than they can. LOL At least they wanted to do something this time. Usually they don't. I'm pretty sure the 7 year old wanted to jog just to see what my Garmin did. Hey, anything that gets them out there. Right?
I am going to do my best to get back on track after I get home tomorrow. The minor league baseball season is over, so that is one less thing to take up my exercise time. I had found a 5K race I was going to do the end of Sept - the Conquer the Cave 5K in Woodville, Alabama. Went to register, and registration is already closed. Shoot! They limited it to 600 people, I think. That was going to be my motivation. Need to find something else that looks interesting to me. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll take them. Would like to find something within about a 4 - 5 hour drive from Greeneville TN.1 -

I’m in the Northeast for a few days this week visiting family. Went out for my run after we arrived and got settled and was that a nice run. 72, mostly cloudy, nice breeze coming in off the water and 4 miles along the creek heading to the bay. There was wildlife, a whopping 3 cars, and birds singing. The weather felt amazing and I paced 8:43/M. My legs are extremely tight tonight though- when I return home I must spend some time foam rolling. But it was so nice to be tired after a run from running at a decent pace instead of being wiped out from the heat. It was also nice to not be drenched in sweat.
Thanks for the pick me ups you offered yesterday and today @shanaber and @T1DCarnivoreRunner I really needed them and they are much appreciated.6 -

Really didn’t want to deal with the heat (109f) So treadmill it was. And it was a long one. Progressive run right into a speed hike mountain simulation at 13%. 3,050ft, 9.2mi. 2 hours.

Didn't do all that much running during my week in Scotland. That 4.7km was on a trail - the girlfriend didn't want to go any further and it was raining pretty hard so we turned back. The 8km was also on a trail - the beginning of the Great Glen Way to be exact, and it was muddy and full of sheep *kitten*. Finally got a decently paced run in Edinburgh but wasn't able to do a Parkrun because of timing issues. But anyway. It was really nice to be not hot and not (very) slow for a change.
Hal's Marathon 3 training plan wants 60km this week. Still might make that goal..7 -

This morning I managed to scare the *kitten* outta myself with my own shadow! Crossed a bridge with weirdly placed lighting that led to me casting two shadows... I thought the second was someone coming up behind me in complete silence! Freaked me out quite a lot. The joys of being a woman running alone at dawn in a country where carrying weapons is illegal. I keep thinking I should find a self-defence class to sign up for, then promptly forgetting all about it until something like that happens.
We're going away for a family celebration on Friday, so I've had to move my runs about to allow me to get my long run in on Thursday. Will still be escaping for a run on Saturday (am I the only one that when they find out they're going somewhere new immediately starts examining maps for places to run?) but only for 5km, which hopefully won't be as frowned upon.
Already past my goal for the month, and still expect to squeeze another 16km in before it ends!

Got my long run in today after bailing yesterday but wow it was hot! I know many of you are in the States and would laugh at the London definition of ‘hot’ but I’ve just got back and it’s 29c (think that’s around 84F) and there is actual salt on my face from dried sweat! Sorry that is possibly gross information to share... anyway, 10 miles done and only 6 more to go to hit my revised target of 91m for August, up from 70m.

I had a pretty good run this morning. I got up and going pretty easily this morning. I checked the weather. We were expecting rain this afternoon and into tomorrow morning. When I got up my weather app said clear, 84°F, feels like 90°F with 67% humidity and dew point of 71°. It did show that storms were possible but I checked the radar and it looked like there were some storms up north of the Ft. Worth/Dallas area (which is about 1.5 - 2 hours away) and it looked like it would be about 11 am before we got any rain. So I set out. It was so hot when I walked out the door I couldn't believe it was that warm at 5:45 in the morning. It did seem a little cloudy and I did see a few flashes of lightening when I was heading out. But they were behind me and seemed pretty far away. Plus the radar showed they were a good distance east/northeast of me so I didn't worry about it. The first couple of miles of the run were ok. Hot, but not bad. I saw a raccoon. That was the first raccoon I have seen while running. I didn't try to take a picture of him. It was really too dark anyway. I started to see a few more flashes of lightening and actually heard a little thunder and thought maybe I should cut it short and head home. Then it started raining. It was a pretty good rain too and it cooled things down quite a bit. I was a little over 2 miles from home when it started raining so I did cut my planned route short and started heading back towards home. Running in the rain wasn't too bad, but I don't generally run when there is lightening. But it wasn't too close and the wind wasn't too bad so even though I was a little nervous about the lightening it didn't feel dangerous and I enjoyed running in the rain. As I got closer to home the rain started to taper off so I ran a few "laps" in the elementary school parking lot and made a loop around the Methodist church near my house so that I ended up with 6.23 miles. Who knows what will happen tomorrow. I was expecting that there might be rain and I might have to move Wednesday's run to Friday, but I guess I'll just see what happens in the morning. We had another nice rain around 9:30 this morning. It looks like it is clearing up now, but who knows. Obviously not the weather channel app.

Ugh, I’ve been putting off this run report because I just really don’t want to think about it. The “thing” which is happening with my side hamstring / back of knee muscle is still happening. I have a new, undiagnosed issue which is keeping me from running properly. Since I live in a No Medicare for You state and am self employed with bargain basement insurance, any non-emergency medical care just really isn’t possible right now. I spent over 3k out of pocket on my knee issues, can’t keep doing that. Plus I know from experience it takes over a month to get an appointment at the orthopedic clinic. So Doctor Google is my only option.
I literally have no idea what is happening, there’s no soreness or tiredness or pain except when this muscle misfires and it feels like someone stabbed me about four inches up from the back of my knee, on the outside back. It seems to maybe trigger more often when I make a breaking motion or am going downhill, but it’s not consistent. It starts doing it after about three miles, and if I walk until it stops doing it, then start again, it takes maybe another mile to start back up. Speed is not an issue, I ran hard for .2 miles just to see if it would do it and it didn’t. There literally seems to be no rhyme or reason, nothing is tender before or after and there’s no warning, just BAM. I can’t just ignore it and run through the pain because it also makes my knee buckle. It’s on the good side where I have never had a leg injury, except for sore side glutes from overcompensating for problems with the other leg. Today, palpating the area nothing is even a little bit tender and stretching every which way doesn’t elicit anything out of the ordinary.
Anyway, we got 6.2 miles in at Shelby Farms despite everything. It looked like the heat was going to be bearable but then just as we arrived the sun came out, and we ended up in nearly 100 degree heat index again. Nevertheless not a bad time, and except for those brief moment when I was being stabbed in the leg, everything felt good!
It’s high school track season again, so we were passed by about four different track teams a dozen times on the Greenline. Running during that hour after school lets out is a little demoralizing, as twenty or so perfect teen bodies thunder past in a herd. But it’s also really nice to see them out there doing healthy stuff. One of the teams had shirts identifying them as from my high school, which didn’t even have a track team thirty years ago when I went there. We were (and are) a small school and we had a tennis team, a golf team, the usual basketball and football, girls’ volleyball... and I think that’s it, unless you count chess and debate teams! I only know we had a golf team because I did the yearbook layout for them. Anyway, it’s nice to know that 50 year old me could have smoked 17 year old me on the track, since I clearly remember whining my way around the obligatory mile run once a year.9 -

Nope, nothing. Since the Baker’s cyst behind the other knee presses on the nerve cluster I’ve gotten pretty familiar with variations of nerve issues. It doesn’t have that sharp “nervy” sort of feeling, and it doesn’t have the persistence of a muscle cramp. My instincts are telling me it’s an issue with a tendon getting out of alignment, especially since the only other thing going on is my hip popping on that side (which it does sometimes) but looking at anatomy books there’s nothing obvious located where the issue is.3 -

Another cool fall-like day here. I wore my long sleeve shirt to run group tonight through most of the warm-up before I was ready to take it off. The workout tonight was hill repeats. Halfway up the hill, easy down, all the way up the hill, easy down, repeat for 35 minutes (40 for marathoners). The hill at this location is not very steep and Garmin barely registers any elevation change, but it starts to feel like a hill for sure. Definitely lucked out in choosing tonight over tomorrow night as that location has a more serious hilly hill.
Might need to take my rest day tomorrow unless I can get myself in gear for an early run. Also trying to work out when the long run will be this weekend. I was slightly tempted to sign up for a HM that some friends are doing on Sunday just to get it done with company and bling, but it's at least an hour drive away, early, and not cheap so I'm going to pass. There is one the following Saturday that I'm still considering.

5.1 miles today, partly after dark because I had to replace my CGM sensor when I got home and didn't want to run until it was working (2 hr. warm-up required for it). And they were fast (for me) miles.

Have you tried stretching the area?
I have another thought. When I was in HS I had a problem that sounds like yours, at least vaguely. That was a long while ago. What the school sports doc told me at the time is that there is a tiny muscle that takes your leg the last little bit from bent to straight. This muscle is not used at all if you are say riding a bicycle. Over the summer I had done a lot of biking but no running, and when I returned to running MOST of my leg muscles were strong and ready, but that little one had actually atrophied a bit and could not keep up. To fix it I lifted weights with my leg, but only going thought that last bit of motion until the little muscle caught up. After that normal running kept it in line. The muscle is on the outside, behind the knee cap if I recall right. It has been a very long time since HS.
Maybe something like that is going on with you. If that muscle is weak for whatever reason it stands to reason that it would get tired before the rest of the leg and start hurting mid-run. If so you need to find a way to isolate that movement and exercise the muscle.3 -
Did some work in the heat today. Unfortunate timing. Drank almost 2 gallons. Still dehydrated. Physically drained. Scrapped my night trail run for 18 strides at the park. Felt ok after, but I was definitely 70% there.

That sounds reasonable, I’ll have to look into it. Due to my lack of acl in my other knee I tend to run defensively without fully straightening my legs if I don’t focus on form, since the acl-less knee is most likely to get out of whack at full extension. It would make sense that therefore the muscle you mention would be weaker than expected.0
