I use Flickr.com to host the photos because it's cheap and unlimited space. I don't sell them, I make them available to the racers and the race director for free.
I posted links to my galleries but MFP is holding on to the post pending approval.
If you go to my Flickr link above you can work your way to my page, then my albums, and see all of my trail photos.
Dang, nice:
That cost more than a buck fifty I am sure.0 -
I use Flickr as well. Not enough to justify the cost of it but i like all the photos in one spot
Oh all fancy. I just shoot with a 50d1 -
Today I got to run 1.7 miles to the gym, where I had a fantastic workout, then biked home. The last couple of weeks I’ve been going to a med-morning class rather than afternoon, and it’s been a really great change. The Tu/Th morning classes are a bit larger - maybe 8-10 people as opposed to 4-6 at the early evening class I was going to. The group is about even split between stay-at-home parents, flex-schedule professionals, and retirees, and everyone is incredibly friendly and encouraging. I managed a free-standing starfish plank from my hand instead of elbow (like this without a wall) and got a cheer and a big high-five, which felt great.
Two rest days and then the half!!!!!!!!!
I’m going to see Brittany Runs a Marathon tonight - I’ll make sure to post a movie report tomorrow.

Great! But please wrap it in spoiler tags (which is what they are actually meant for) in case anyone wants to see it spoiler free...

Just checking in to let y’all know I’m still around. Just not running atm. I was a little dehydrated after the mountain last Friday night. Took 3 days off and I’ve been unable to breathe through my mouth when running. And now talking, eating is hard. Like it feels like something is stuck in my throat. And I choke. So limited to nose breathing only during physical activity. I tried treadmill the other day and Was unable to run past 2mi without feeling like I didn’t have enough air. Had to immediately stop and walk. I got looked at today and I have a double ear infection and it’s messing with my Uvala? (Thing in back of mouth). It’s swelled and restricting things. I’ve begun antibiotics. Unknown when I will resume running again. Just know I want to now. I struggle with time off. Just took 5mo off earlier in the year.
Nothing major. Just wanted to let y’all know Incase I don’t post for a while. Kinda bummed out. Lifting weights helps get my mind off it. Just trying to limit loosing fitness best I can. Will likely have to cancel upcoming races. Looking forward to being able to run again!
Have a great week!16 -

Welcome back @7lenny7 !
I’m calling today’s 5 run a fartlek - it was a bunch of speed intervals in an attempt to figure out what my 5k race pace should look like at the moment. It’s been a while since I ran one, especially in this heat. Last time I raced 5k when it was cooler (not counting the 108 degree hell race on the 4th of July) my pace was about 8:45/mile, so we ran a mile at that pace, and I sure can’t do that three times in this heat. Had to walk to recover. I’m guessing my top 5k pace in the current weather - temp mid 90’s - is maybe 9:15, maybe less. Also my muscles aren’t used to that speed after three months not being able to run fast, so I don’t really have the stamina for that pace even if it were suddenly cooler.
Anyway, this is why we did a test run, now I will know not to go out that fast next week during my race!
Ran along the Wolf River and the water level is really, really low.10 -
Welcome back @7lenny7! Love the pictures! Especially the beautiful Vizsla in the album of the race with the flooded section. Also loved the expressions as everyone ran through that flooded section and the 4 or 5 ladies posing together in the water!
@ROBOTFOOD - hope the antibiotics kick in quickly and you start feeling better. If you have access to one and can manage it you might try getting on a stationary bike to keep your legs in shape.
Hoping to get a run in tomorrow after my early morning appointment. I was going to go today but it was already hot when I got up at 6:30 and very humid again as we are getting tropical storm remnants from a storm near Mexico. It was also responsible for the lightening that they think started the wildfire in Murrieta, CA that you may have seen on the news.6 -

Cool. How did you get that gig? I am looking for more day time photo practice and something like that would be good I think.
I signed up to volunteer at the race and where they asked for any special qualifications, I told them I do sport photography and gave them a link to my soccer photos. I also told them I have a pick up so I did haul equipment during some of the race. This was my second year doing it.
If that's something you want to do, find a local race and look at their website and facebook page to see what they've had in the past. Some races are flush with photographers, some have nothing. Most would be thrilled to have someone shooting if they don't currently, but that's not always the case.
There's a race next month on my "home" trails. Marathon, 50K, 50M, 100k and 100M. I can't run it but I wanted to volunteer with my camera. I thought it would be a shoo-in since past years showed single photographer taking them and quite honestly, not very good. I was turned down because they said they already had one. Surprised, I looked back at their site and realized that the photographer they had was selling his photos (low-rez was free), and he is the race director's husband. Then it all made sense...
Yeah, I will have to find some small local one and just crash it shooting and build a portfolio I guess first. Who do you use to host/sell the photos?
For a while there was a guy here who was into running and photography, who would start at the literal back of area races, and would take a selfie with every runner he could catch before reaching the finish line. He was pretty fast, and got a LOT of great shots. I had fun predicting/trying to see how far I could get before he'd catch me.11 -
A not spectacular five and a bit miles this morning. But it was going to be zero and anything is better than that. Happy Friday everyone!

Rest day yesterday, it was a beautiful Spring day so I should've switched my days around because it was stormy again today when I got out for my run Today was a bit of a slog. I felt like throwing up most of the way. I'm pretty sure it's because I was a greedy guts and ate a big mac, cheeseburger and fries for lunch. That was stupid. Lesson learned.
@PastorVincent Wow great photos! I especially love the one of the moon.
Good luck and happy running to all those racing this weekend6 -

An early post from me (I'm at work, hope they don't track the websites I spend time on...)
Another early run for me, 5k all over by 7am. Much better than last nights - no sick feeling, faster pace, did some faster intervals during it. Much better! Now I'm off to a cheese and wine evening to undo all my hard work this week

Brittany Runs a Marathon movie report under the spoiler tag. Spoiler-free short review: very funny, definitely cut close to home as someone who has lost weight and discovered running as a passion. I have somewhat mixed feelings about its treatment of mental and physical health - my husband probably enjoyed it more than I did because it wasn’t such a personal subject for him. The footage shot at the New York City Marathon was amazing and worth the price of admission.Spoiler tag aside, there isn’t much to spoil here. The movie title tells you what’s going to happen. The plot could be used to teach a class on Hollywood screenwriting structure:
1. Brittany is a young woman living in NYC, working a dead-end job, and partying all night with her mean-girl bestie.
2. Brittany has a health scare.
3. Brittany struggles to change.
4. After a nudge in the right direction, Brittany starts running.
5. Brittany cleans up her act, making new friends, getting a new job, and meeting a new love interest.
6. Brittany and her running friends decide to train for the NYC Marathon.
7. Brittany struggles to accept how her life has changed, eventually pushing away her running friends and new love interest.
8. Brittany encounters a setback, causing her to spiral back into her old behaviors.
9. With the help of friends and family, Brittany manages to pull herself back together.
10. Brittany runs a marathon.
11. Brittany is living the life she’s dreamed of in Act One.
So you’re not going to be surprised by the plot, but the joy of the movie is that the script is very funny (if you don’t mind some off-color humor - the R rating is entirely for language, as there is no nudity, violence, or sex you wouldn’t see on network TV these days), the cast is great, and, if you’re a runner, there are a lot of extremely spot-on moments that will get you right in the feels.
If you’ve heard of the movie it’s probably because they got permission to film during the 2017 NYC Marathon, and they did a great job at what must have been an incredibly difficult shoot. I’ve never run NYC but I *felt* every second of that sequence - it really captured the excitement and struggle of a big race. I think I loved every single running moment in this movie: the struggle to get out the door that first time, those early, painful runs, the bits in the middle where you realize "hey, this is kind of great", the moment when you start doing *other* exercises so you can be a stronger runner, how awesome and supportive other runners can be, and how other people just don't get it sometimes. Everything else aside, I would encourage almost anyone in the group to see the movie just for the running parts.
The people I would give a word of caution to are those of you, like me, who have struggled with that big fun ball of weasels that is mental illness, in particular connected to body-image, self-love, and self-respect. You might find this movie wonderfully affirming. You might find it triggering. You might find it frustratingly shallow. I’d say I got a bit of all three.
If you look at reviews of the movie, there’s a *lot* of back-and-forth about how the story addresses Brittany’s weight. The script really wants to say that what’s important is learning to love yourself. But for all the moments of fat acceptance and nods to health at any size, Happy Brittany is a lot skinnier than Unhappy Brittany. To be honest, I’ve gotten a little bored with the “can you be a feminist and still want to lose weight” discussion. I decided in 2017 that I was unhappy in my body and I started making decisions that have left me stronger, healthier, and, yes, smaller. I will be working on it for the rest of my life.
ETA: For a couple of great takes on the movie's treatment of weight, read the AV Club's review (mixed messages) and this Runner's World article (erasing fat runners).
My main issue with the movie isn't about weight specifically but mental illness. Brittany doesn’t just need to get her resting heart rate down at the beginning of the movie, she needs to figure out where her self-destructive behaviors are coming from and treat that. She clearly struggles with her self-esteem and has deep-seated trust issues. Improving your physical health can absolutely help improve your mental health, but you can be a runner and still hate yourself more days than not. Runners struggle with their relationships and jobs and self-destructive behaviors.
I think the movie really, really tries to treat this subject respectfully, but while the running portions rang incredibly true, the health struggle just didn’t quite get there for me. It was all just a little too pat, a little too superficial. It really does try to tell a nuanced story about self-acceptance and growth, but ultimately I’m not sure how much it succeeded. Either way, I will definitely be giving this one a rewatch. And probably talking about it with my therapist.9 -
There is now a Disagree button!
Oh yeah... this is a running thread. I ran my "Benchmark" run for the 10k Garmin Coach plan this morning. I followed that up with dog walks, but after half a mile it started to rain so I'm counting the rest as a run. The Benchmark run shows "Good job" by the coach, so I'm starting strong!

So today is a rest day, but this week there was an interval & long run & next week a tempo & 3 mile fast.
Point being what is just 3 miles - no name to the run? I ran & remembered why I started running, I actually enjoyed the music & looked around at the scenery. There was one man walking, one man running, a man on a bike & a woman walking her dog! I might not have even noticed these people if I was focusing on my next interval. Plus this is the first time I'm using my garmin for intervals & it is spectacular! Nuff said - Have a Great Weekend!11 -
5.1 miles today. Nothing particularly noteworthy. I ran 2 missions of Zombies, Run! and stopped before Radio Mode kicked in. It was a little bit of a race with the last story clip - I was hoping it would end at the mile mark, but it didn't, hence the .1.

Yes it looks like we have a 'disagree' button but also looks like all of the post controls, formatting and other functions are gone at least for me. No ability to post a picture or format the strike through on my completed races... What's up with that MFP?
I ran earlier on Sunday in the heat and humidity and was miserable. Only got 8 of my planned 12 miles and even walked quite a bit of that. Saw an acquaintance who stopped me to see if I was ok because he rarely sees me walking. On Monday I went out later when it was warmer and less humid and had a great run. Wednesday it was a bit too warm, I think it was around 95F when I got home, but I did run most of it. I guess I must be getting used to the heat a bit as today was 85F with lower humidity (only 45%) and it felt great. I hadn't planned on running today as I had an early appointment but got home and headed straight out. So glad I did as I feel so good now!
I am having some DOMS from strength training though - we have been focusing on lats, arms and shoulders with some lunges and core work to balance it out. I am looking forward to a few days of no strength training leading up to my race next weekend, so legs should be in good rested shape! Also it is supposed to be in the mid to low 50's at race start. Not sure what to think of that, I may actually be cold! 🤣 We head off on Sunday morning so tomorrow will be a short run and then laundry and packing!

If folks will forgive me for the religious analogy, I feel like the argument about which is more important, loving yourself or wanting to be a healthy weight, is similar to the argument between Christians about which is more important, faith or works. It’s the wrong question. If you truly have faith, you will WANT to do good works. If you truly love yourself, you will WANT to be healthy. And that includes being the weight which is best for you. And conversely, there are all kinds of reasons to do good works which have nothing to with faith - maybe you do good works in order to gain status in your community, for example. And there are plenty of reasons to want to be thin which have nothing to do with good health, and may even undermine good health. If you love yourself, you will accept where you are and what you look like now, and also want to improve it to the best of your abilities. And also you will be much more accepting of others because you won’t need to put others down to feel better about yourself.
