Tracey - Love the photos! What fun and great memories! <3
My DDIL had some done a while ago for her publicity photos and they also did some of the kids. I'm wondering whether to give a session a go for my memoirs' publicity :* (When I've finished the second one!) I love all the colour/outfit coordination in your set.

Marking time today. DH away at cricket. I went downtown and bought a few toiletries for the cruise and something to eat tonight. I am off to dancing so it had to be something instant for him when he arrives home.
I bought myself 70 candles, either to have on Sunday with the family, or to take on the cruise. That is, candles in the shape of 70! :D
I treated myself to a very light lunch at a place I've spied, but never been into. The music was a little intrusive, but nice decor. It's very 'Millennial '. Food was healthy.

DH and I didn't sleep well last night. Mine was due to an overlong nap, but I think DH is getting pre-holiday angst, plus a bit of worry about his elder daughter. I'm afraid I fell asleep on the sofa this afternoon. I'm hoping the dancing will compensate!

    - that's exactly how I started. I used the man's voice. B) I love all the encouragement. Good for you!

Heather - I think you should do it, it will be a treasure for your grandchildren later in life too. My youngest daughter and husband both have a photographer’s eye and they were the ones that decided we should try to coordinate. I think it turned out well. The girls wore cream, white isn’t good for photography and the guys blue. I knew we would be having more formal pictures taken at the wedding so I wanted a more natural comfortable look, hence the jeans.

Tracey - - The pictures are so gorgeous, what a beautiful family. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Heather - love the ones of your family too. The kids haven't definitely grown since then.

Machka - strange thing about these rashes.

My initial one, adhesive reaction where the drape was taped on my tummy, popped up 48 hours after the surgery. It's been 3 weeks and I still have the marks although they are fading. The skin is a little rough.

The second one all over my tummy -similar to what you had - showed its itchy self 6 days after the surgery, again in the morning (my surgery began at around 10 am). Pretty much followed where they washed me down with iodine. And I had since taken several showers and washed off any residue I saw there, but the skin remembered....

Normally, if I am reacting to something, it's a matter of minutes or hours, not days.

Karen in VA - any ideas what's up with these - what appear to be - delayed reactions?

Machka's reaction makes me wonder if she wasn't exposed to something days or weeks prior and the stress of the trip made it "bloom" - if it wasn't a virus.

I'm just trying to figure out if it's preventable. :/

    Lanette

After all kinds of bloodwork, they were pretty sure mine was some sort of virus or measles. They discovered that I was in the age group to have only one of the two required vaccinations for measles. I checked with my mother and she confirmed I only had one vaccination. The fact that I had "followed" a woman with measles ... she had been in the airport where I was, she travelled by car to Shepparton, like I did ... she infected 3 others that they discovered later ...

We had just gone over to the mainland one weekend (3-4 day trip) and 14 days after we returned .... there it was!! I felt like I had a cold for a few days, then I was working on a project one evening, and kept feeling hotter and hotter. Finally I got up to use the toilet and happened to look at my abdomen ... and nearly fell off the toilet. My torso was covered in the rash. By the next morning, it was all of me.

The area we went to (Shepparton and surrounds) was the general area where we lived for a number of years so we were familiar with it, cycling on old familiar roads again, great to be back ...

The only thing I wondered about was that I had broken a tooth on the ride, and I wondered if it was some kind of infection. But they checked that too, and nope.

    M in Oz

It’s a bit after the fact now, but they can do lab antibody titers to determine if you are immune. It would show whether or not you needed the second vaccine. During infection, they can check IgM and IgG to determine if it is a current infection.

Measles is crazy contagious. A person with measles can sneeze in a room, and a susceptible person walk in to that room 15 minutes later and develop measles from it.

@Machka9 I can relate to the late studies, late retirement and options.

@Anniesquats100 I'm having trouble sticking to eating low on the calories too. 1100 is low but I'd probably do well to be around that too when I can't walk that much.

@coastalgosgal sorry about your sister tension. I hope that works out ok.

    @KetoneKaren <3 the Mona Lisa!

@ydalley I don't know if it will cost them more. most colleagues are not knowledgable and not willing to right for their rights. the situations is as if they were adjunct-type teachers at a great university (like say Yale) with poor pay and illegal conditions for 10 years, but with rather permanent contracts . They like the students and status and work and don't want to risk losing their jobs and also don't want to bother and understandably don't want to go through the hassle of years in court. some have spouses with better jobs so they won't bother. it seems to not be in most people's nature to fight for their rights. people prefer to align with their employer. I can understand. I used to be that way till I found out how illegal things were, and how little we were informed of our rights.
if they go back on what they said 2 or 3 of us (possibly more) may go to court. there is always a chance of losing, or of getting tired and giving up. it's possible that only those who go to court will win or possibly that all will win but they'd have tried and possibly gained 2 years and lost very little. Enjoy the motorcycle rides! I get around by scooter.it's still comfortable now but will start to get chilly.

yay I got to the knee specialist and to the physio today.

the physio was mixed. good: he seemed rigorous and had me do all sorts of things to check out my knee. less good: I didn't have a great feeling from him. not creepy but I had a feeling he didn't like me or didn't think my thing was serious enough. he questioned the value of physio with him. said to check with specialist but he said he could help me strengthen muscles if necessary. I suppose he'll be fine but it's not ideal when the other's heart is not in it. could change.i might try another one.

the knee doctor was good. there was some mix up about my appointment but they took me and he seemed very rigourous and competent: examined me, looked at MRI CD. he confirmed my meniscus tear is small and is not to operate but gave me a prescription for 15 physio sessions, some anti-inflammatory medicine for a week, said I can bike and swim but go easy on walking and sports (he was a bit back and forth about that-said 1 month but was back and forth whether the past month was enough to stop sports or if I should wait another month). I guess it's swollen and inflamed. he said it should get better and I can move according to what feels ok, that I can put ice oat at night if have pain and come back in a month. if it's not better he spoke of a possible cortisone shot. a colleague went to him 2X: 1st he had a totally blocked knee w meniscus tear and needed to get operated.2nd time got an infiltration. He is 50+ and bicycles and swims lots. very active. rides over an hour round trip many days to get to work and back. He said a knee brace won't help and the physio said a knee brace will just weaken the leg muscles which are already slightly weaker on the left. the physio said I can do whatever I want except repeated squats. the knee doctor was more mixed and said I can walk but to follow what I feel.(stop if pain..)
that seems mostly good. I was happy w the knee doctor. I'll google infiltration. Anyone have any experience? I know cortisone can have some Side effects. I don't know which.

a mid level person at the presently-problematic school sent an aggressive mail this morning. I answered and she was yet more agressive. I stayed mum and stopped by and spoke to the assistant director and she said maybe she was having a bad day with the start of the school year and she'd sort it out.

Sorry to hear about what you are going through. Have you considered any other anti-inflammatory support supplements in the meantime?

hi ladies - I am SO far behind I fear I'll never catch up! but I'm sure I will.

I finally got glasses. I got progressive lenses and I'm finding it difficult to adjust. The hardest adjustments are 1) working at the computer (I write and do a lot of research, so read at the computer a lot) and 2) walking...

There only seems to be a very thin margin for the "medium" progressive part which seems to be the part of the lens I need to read at the computer - so it's been very frustrating. Playing video games is also difficult, I guess because of the motion. As for the walking - especially when I'm in a store, I get dizzy. It's been interesting, to say the least. I've never really worn glasses before, so it's all new to me.

I haven't yet talked about goals this month, but for August I didn't do great. I might have been at around 50% for most of them. Disordered eating has crept back into my life and I've had to make a lot of adjustments. This month my goals are:

-exercise once per day for at least 20 mins at a time
-implement old tools for disordered eating in order to stay closer to the daily allotted calories.

the latter is a lot more difficult than it sounds and is it's own rather large list of things to do. But it's been working. I've been working at it most of the month and things are much better than in August. Life has been quite stressful lately and I needed to get back to basics with food.

Healthy recovery to those of you who are recovering from procedures and illness.. and hugs to everyone who needs it, too!!

I've seen some of you talking about magnesium. If you have problems with diarrhea, you can try a different type. Here is an infographic of the different types of magnesium and which is better absorbed, which causes laxative effect, which is better for insomnia, etc.

    fym3kcqgf4ux.jpg

Hope this helps some of you!

I use Natural Calm and Calmful sleep (which both have magnesium citrate) at night, but limit the amount because of the laxative effect (I played with the dosage until I got it right), and then also take magnesium bisglycinate in the morning so I get a higher dose of magnesium. It has helped me with muscle cramps (including menstrual), insomnia, migraines and anxiety.

**Disclaimer*** I have crap knees, four surgeries so far. I have some level of pain all the time, but it dissipates when I rest them. So, that said, my experience with cortisone shots follows. A bit over two years ago I developed new pain I hadn't had before and went to an orthopedist. I was in pain all the time, even when off of it and it would wake me up at night. The cortisone injection provided some relief within hours and all of the "new" pain was gone in about 4 days. He told me he would gladly give me 2 injections a year if needed, so far, this one has lasted 2 years. I did find the shot painful, he used sonogram to guide it, but was blocked because of scar tissue and had to "wiggle' his way around to get to where it needed to be. He promised it would be more painful to pull the needle out and go in from a different angle. I would get another injection if needed.

Felicia “no hope of recovery” yes, I am there with you, no treatment when no hope. “...or if recovery would come at such a high price, emotionally, financially, painfully, with very little return on that investment, in either time or quality of life “ ah there's the rub. How to set such parameters in written durable power of attorney for health care.
    TMI
Segues right into this morning's struggle.
    Joe's eye Dr. follow up this morning finds one eye at 20 and the other at 25, after 1 laser treatment on one and 3 on the other, numerous drops, etc. Dr. wants him to use all 3 drops for two weeks then come back. Seriously suggesting surgery which would require daily followups. Joe is more than reluctant, not sanguine about the efficacy of surgery vs the risk factors, willing to accept some loss of vision, perhaps even blindness. I've been pushing for a second opinion, but the real experts are in Portland and Joe refuses to travel that far. He's decided to ask his primary care MD at next week's appointment, great. I said I'd go along, as I did last time. NO! Joe doesn't want me there. Refuses absolutely. When I said I should be there and he should be at mine in January he said “I don't WANT to be there with you, if you come with me I won't go!” (sounds like a terrible two year old). Calmly said I hoped he'd consider, “I WON'T”. The emotional reaction is so very strong, I suspect he's fearing something. Haven't let him know yet, but I will respect his decision, pray extra hard, and start working on my own Health Care power of Attorney and Will. Would appreciate any reasonablenest vibes sent Joe's way. ;}
((Hugs)) and fingers X'd that DH's phone meeting goes better than expected. How long will your youngest have to recover from appendectomy before returning to school? Loving up the pooch is the absolutely best that can be done. ((hugs)
Welcome Missezkbee you're right about exercises keeping depression at bay.
Vickie would love to see a pic of your GD and you on your ride!
Karen in VA Modern Day Mona Lisa, talent and wit!
Yvonne, had to look up the Tshirt numbers. RGB, Love it!
Machka the Seasons in Tassie could have as easily been labeled the Seasons in Idaho, except that Summer is over 100F for two months, then there might be a week of Autumn before, yep, its WINTER AGAIN! Following Measles Mary, who knew?
Welcome Sagiterri63, love your screen name!
Debby in VA why the additional sleeping accommodations? What am I missing?
Allie ((hugs)) for you about Chester, but fist bumps for enjoying “...going and doing things by myself with no one to answer to “ Brava!
Lanette Aronia bush surprise? What did I miss? Which Aronia is it? Barbie forgot to mention the raingear we'd need ;)
    Carol strep throats? Oh no!
Michele, when we do the electric slide, those who get bored can roll the grapevines, turning 360 each way. Think it would be a real challenge in the water. ;)
    Viv Brava!
    Welcome julmikek88 in MI!
Rebecca Your Norwegian Lutheran Woman comment reminded me that our Pastor suggested “Green Jello” as the name of a group or our ladies who'll sing at a community music fest. :) Maybe it's time to tell your Mom's spirit that you've done what you could for your midsister, and it's time to let go and let God.
Tracie  the pics, what a great family!
Rho just ordered two of those Jjill shelf bra tanks. Thanks for the Shoprunner tip, with free returns, I figured low risk ;)
Felicia hallelujah for the update on your DH. About time y'all got some good news!
Julie go with your gut and find a different pt, someone who takes you and your injury seriously.
Shannon, good to hear from you, like the expression “disordered eating” ;)

So, thinking about Irish Terri's “what would you like to look back on and have accomplished in the past year.” Inclining towards will and heath care power of attorney, and/or signing up and actually going to the Better Bones and Balance class. Like a cranky child, I don't WANT to do either, but know I'd feel better looking back and seeing them done. Will be sad to give up T'ai Chi class (time conflict with BB&B) love the people so much, but being guided (kicking, screaming and dragging heels and fingernails) to the more physically challenging class. Hmm.

Kim--I know for a fact that any hospital that gets funding for medicare or medicaid can not turn anyone away for no being able to pay. Most hospital have grants to help people with medical bills. So remember there are ways. You are to important to a lot of people to take that way out.

Felicia--Have missed you. Sounds like you have a lot going on right now. Sending lots of hugs and prayers. Glad the news for DH was good news.

Karen--Thanks for the update. Very nice picture your granddaughter drew.

Michele--Happy and Sleepy are so cute. Your yard is going to be so pretty.

Tracey--What a great birthday gift and beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Shannon--I tried progressive lens once and just could not ajust. So ever since I get the lined and have no problems. These new glasses I got last month are great. Feel like a little kid again that is seeing for the first time.

Didn't realize how much my eyes have changed.

Well all caught up again. Been a much better day today and I got my phone replaced at my desk so that it works right. Thinking about adding some exercise strenghting for my dept in the morning. Been watching some of the u tubes of Body Groove. If nothing else it could help us relax so will see how that goes.
    Blessings, Vicki GI NE <3
