Heather - have a wonderful cruise!
Well this is the issue I have with my job, it’s my only complaint. I absolutely love my job!
We have too many food events though. Yesterday was a pizza lunch that didn’t get delivered until 130. At 2 there was a retirement party with chips, seeets, dips. Today there was a coffee and cookie sale to raise money for the Alzheimer’s society. I bought 4 cookies and brought 3 home for my husband. However, because I had to sit my turn at the sale table I was behind and didn’t get lunch until 230, so I wasn’t hungry at supper and now it’s 830 at night and I’m hungry.
Every week there have been events with food sometimes two - three times a week. There is candy around everywhere and my boss is worried that we are too busy to eat so brings in granola bars, Rice Krispie squares, candies. We won’t starve we have a dining room that is always cooking too!
I need to come up with a polite way of refraining and I need my hip to finish healing so I can at least start working out again. It is better this week than it has been since I injured it. If it wasn’t for my tooth ache. I would feel pretty good today.
Tracey In Edmonton2 -
Tracey, The way to refrain politely is start with your own decision of what foods you eat and don't eat and what time of day you eat and don't eat. Then you can say "No thank you. I don't eat____" or "No thank you. I don't eat at this time of day."3
-
Tracey- I had a lunch box pulled it out with my tuna packet y crackers measured out back in the day with my drink. When pushed to partake in what I knew I could be allergic too, cause me bathroom 🚽 distress, or well not on my list of safer foods for me (greasy a no-no) Is say oh got my lunchbox. They’d push repeat myself until they learned I was always going to eat the same meal every day from my lunch box. Now that I’m at home bet the tuna companies are crying over loosing their best customer lol 😂

Exercise feeling slowly better depression fogs lifting. Decided against surgery it didn’t work first time I know the new one their trying to get on the market has a 97% success rate vs the 50-60% now. Less side effects. If I’m going to spend money be laid up again want to try something that might work. Better boat not sinking ship 🛳.2 -

Only got a couple of hours sleep. Brain would not stop churning. Read some, tossed and turned some, breathed some etc etc. It was howling a gale outside and the rain was crashing against the windows. I couldn't hear it with my ear plugs in, but I knew it was there. DH thought he wouldn't sleep, he was worried about sea sickness, but he did.
Machka - the motion affects his vertigo. He goes really dizzy.
The morning has dawned, it has stopped raining, I remembered my red dress at the last minute (it was hanging on the back of the door), I can see blue sky.
We will do our exercises together before getting ready. Nervous, but also excited.
WiFi is erratic on the ship, but I will try my best to keep in touch. If I am MIA, it's because we are in the North Sea.
Photos will have to wait for port.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Heather: Bon Voyage! It's so exciting when you go off on a cruise, don't you think!
The scale was teasing me today. I had a big Whoosh 2 days ago, then today it bounce up a little! I wrote this, very 👅 in cheek! 😂 😂 😂
Aweigh day
I rise to meet my morning date.
The scale! It is a fickle beast,
giving either famine, or a feast.
In hope I step upon the plate,
and, glancing downward, scanning, wait,
wondering, "What will be my fate?"
The digits flash, and settling, stay,
to bring me joy or mar my day.

traey. I like barbies approach to the treats/snacks all around—-no thank you, I don’t etc. also key thing is to stay fed so you don’t hit those snacks when you’re vulnerable —if you are well fed, feeling full, you can walk on by. Is it karen va who pretends the sweets are covered in something gross? That’s another strategy.
I am bombarded at work with junk food, seasonally and randomly—and Halloween in the US is pretty nuts, let me tell you. And it’s Right around the corner . So a plan to walk past is going to be so very important- we can do this!!
NYKAREN1 -
Tracey & NYKAREN Yep, I pretend the snacks are contaminated with E. coli or Salmonella. Even though I know I made it up, once the thought is in my head, the food loses all appeal.

End of the work week!! And we got it done! I clicked the "Submit" buttons with a little group of witnesses cheering me on. It has been such a busy week!!
This weekend, I've got to get going on my last assignment for my uni course. No rest ...
We did have a bit of fun at lunch ... a Footy Grand Final Lunch Celebration. That's what's on this weekend here in Australia.
Then I came home and rowed for the first time in 3 weeks. That was a bit of an effort!
And ... I completed Strava's Escape Challenge, mainly with walking! Plus 2 days of rowing and 2 days of cycling. The challenge was to do a minimum of 15 min of exercise 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. All about consistency.
Annual Walking Totals - to September 27
2015 - 757.0 km
2016 - 743.2 km
2017 - 854.5 km
2018 - 967.9 km
2019 - 794.5 km

Heather - have an amazing time! Happy early birthday, and can't wait to see pics and live vicariously through your adventures.
So, my unplanned day off yesterday turned into a lovely three and a half hour nap in the afternoon. And still slept all night last night! Between the two days, got more than 17 hours of sleep, when I usually average about 12 or 13 at most in two days. Feeling like I could 'rassle a bear this morning.
And... off to the gym, and then I'll do the brush-cutting that I couldn't get to yesterday.
Later, y'all,

Good morning all! Happy Friday! I got NINE hours of sleep last night! Whoot! I went to bed at 8:30pm (mainly bc I got all of my things done that I needed to get done and I didn't want to start snacking), I fell asleep immediately and didn't wake up until 5:30 this morning. I had forgotten to set my alarms and the tick that one clock makes right before the alarm goes off, is what woke me up. It must be the hour hand going past the "alarm hand" that makes that very quiet "tick". Wakes me up every day. I did wake up briefly, as Tim was in and out of the bathroom, sick, last night. Fingers crossed it stays away from me. He sleeps on the bed in his office most nights and hangs out in his office during day care hours, so I should be okay.
Well, Lauren is five days away from her due date! She has been constantly on my mind, this week, as she is starting to feel the discomfort as baby has moved into position and the back pain (she had back labor with Joaquin) has begun. Her due date is Oct 2. She is hoping to make it to Oct. 1, so that she doesn't have to eat into next year's sick days to pay for the extra time off. Joaquin was resting beside her the other night and had his head and hands on her belly when the baby kicked. lol Lauren said he sat up and looked at her like "What in the heck was that?!" She said, "That is baby #2! He is in my belly and that was his foot kicking!" She said that Joaquin laughed and sat back and put his feet on her belly right where the baby had kicked. Then, he turned and put his head and hands on her belly, waiting for more kicks. Fingers crossed this is the beginning of brother bonding! Other than the four days that I am there, Joaquin will be going to daycare every day during her maternity leave. He is VERY routine oriented and gets kind of crazy when his routine is interrupted. I think it will be good for all of them. He will get a normal "school" day and be able to play and get energy out at daycare, she will get time to rest and bond with the baby, and be ready for Joaquin cuddles when he comes home from daycare. PLUS, they have to pay to hold their spot, so he may as well go and have fun. Here is a pic of him having fun with his classmates at daycare.
Heather- Bon Voyage! I hope the weather calms so that the trip is agreeable for DH! I am sure you can probably make every trip an adventure!
Lisa- Glad you got some extra sleep! It makes a huge difference. I felt the same way this morning! Felt kind of guilty feeling so good (Tigger-like) next to my hubby (Eeyore-like).
KarenVA- Olivia! She is just adorable and she does look like she is enjoying every minute of her life in France.
Ann- Love the poodles! I agree with the girls; you did a great job on the grooming!
Barbie- I had forgotten about line dancing. I checked into it and all of our local line dance classes are offered during the day (most likely filled with seniors and retirees). Can you recommend some beginner videos on Youtube? I have never done a line dance in my life (other than the Hustle, does that count?) I can't even do the "reception" staples like the Electric Slide. Just never learned them.
Tracey- Wow! That is a lot of food/food celebrations at work! For that reason I am glad I work at home; but then, I can be my own worst enemy, because I know what I like and I can probably whip something up in minutes if I were desperate. BArbie and Amber had good suggestions for avoiding the food traps. I always worry that people will be upset or offended if I don't try what they offer; but I don't think they will be as offended as my brain tells me they will be. Most people understand "eating for your health". Hugs!
Salad dressings- If forced I can eat a salad dry; but since I work at home, I do have a selection of dressings to add. Since I make my own yogurt, I find it very easy to make a creamy dressing with yogurt and just add spices (garlic, dill, lemon pepper), or I add a quarter cup of blue cheese to a cup of yogurt and have a very healthy blue cheese dressing or dip, or I have a variety of vinegars and lemon/lime wedges. They all work.
Kids arriving! Last day of the week! OH! I didn't tell you! I heard from Trentin's mom earlier this week. She texted me and just said that she hadn't been working for the past two months and could I take Trentin the following day! ??!! I told her no, and that I was no longer providing care on weekends or evenings. I felt bad, but who doesn't call their daycare person for two months and then calls needing care with no explanation?! Just a lot of nonsense that I don't need.
Love and hugs to all! ttfn xoxoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Regarding sleep ...
Just about every day this week, my husband has had to wake me in the morning. My alarm goes off, and I think I sort of heard it each time, but I just kept sleeping.
Today, I did NOT want to wake up.
I've found lately that if I sleep anything less than 7 hours, I battle to get up ... but even 7 hours 5 min, and that's better.
I'll be sleeping in tomorrow!!

I've shared this before, but will add it to all of your thoughts when tempted by treats in the workplace. I am the housekeeper at our large church and the restrooms, of course, are part of my duties. I replace paper towels in the ladies' restroom regularly... the men's room? ... very, very rarely. Just think about that ...5 -

Tracey: I empathise with the food being ever-present. Our Latin group leader bakes for us every week. I usually allow myself a small sample. The problem is that most people see these offerings as treats, and can’t seem to grasp that they are not!!!
I am trying to reframe my outlook on treats, and most of the things I used to love no longer appeal, and boy! does my body let me know if I over-indulge. Also, I try to visualise the food crawling with 🕷 🐛 🐜 and that seems to work.
Weather is changeable, but warm when the sun is out. Just took these pictures of the flowers outside on the terrace.

Did a DVD on the bosu today. The plan for tomorrow is to do an extreme pilates DVD.
Welcome everyone new (looking at firetop)
Tracey – many times when there’s food fundraiser, unless it’s something I REALLY want, I just give them a donation. Like just recently a lady at ceramics daughter was selling these brownie bites. Personally, I thought they were overpriced. But Vince wanted them so we got one pail. If it had been me, I would have just given her a donation. There have been times when I’ve even said things like “I’m allergic to peanuts” Not that I am, but that’s a good reason not to buy something. If you can do it, ONE candy, etc probably won’t hurt that much. I know that Rice Krispie bars are fairly low in calories.
Heather – have a great trip!
Sleepyhead KJ – hope Tim is better soon.
Soup kitchen today. Need to leave a bit early to give the gal at the bowing alley Newcomer’s schedule. I might make these meatloaf muffins to have later in the week. I don’t know if I will

Karen in VA - thank you for the flowers & coleus! So beautiful... Our morning glories are nearly done blooming here, and I've gathered seed to plant them along some of the fenceline for next year. My coleus is nearly five feet tall, and I have to decide when/whether to cut it back!
Gym done, now some yard work.

Hello all of you working gals.
I use the same strategy when it comes to treats around the office. I say to myself, "wow, someone else's leftovers". I would never dare (unless homeless and starving) to walk by someone's leftover plate and eat from it.
I am trying to plan my treats. A bowlful of chocolates on someone's desk isn't planned. I would rather have a nice creme brulee that I could savor after dinner.
I also have been making sure I bring some fruit every day when I work. So, if I am craving something sweet I have something on hand.
Hope everyone is having a great day - back to the races for me (work).2 -
I have a question for you all. Do any of you get barometric pressure migraines and if so, what do you do about them? I can't just lay around in a dark room for 2 days (which doesn't really help the pain anyway). Is there a solution? Nothing seems to work for me and in this day and age, I cannot imagine there isn't some sort of way to make it a little better so I can function.2

Pip: I love your dog photos. This portrait is particularly sweet. Bullwinkle? I like you and Kirby in the surf, too.
Heather: Bon Voyage! Take ginger lozenges for motion sickness if it is a problem for either you or DH. I’ll be doing so when I fly to Illinois. I would be surprised if the ship doesn’t have a supply. I see that Machka has also given this advice. :flowerforyou:
Annilz: Sorry to hear about your bad knee. I have one, too, and I sympathize. There is always a low level of discomfort. The doctor I went to advised against surgery. He told me to do knee strengthening exercises whenever I was sitting. I did a lot of them in the house and also in the car. My exercise was to hold up my injured knee for a long period of time using only my leg muscles. I did much of this work while driving or riding as a passenger in the car. My injury is inside of my left knee and my right foot controls the accelerator so the car was a doable exercise location. I also joined a yoga class and it has been a very good thing for me. Mine is a permanent injury to my knee joint and will never be good as new, although it is now good enough for me to enjoy life and do the things I love to do. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I am happy that you are getting needed sleep. :flowerforyou:
SuziQ: Raw celery is a gift. The body burns more calories to digest it than it contains. Unfortunately, dips and other additions can add a lot of calories.
Shotzz99: I have experienced headaches during road trips that have a lot of elevation gain. Sugar-free gum can help my ears adjust to elevation changes. Sometimes there has been ear discomfort on flights or road trips over mountains, but they usually resolve with chewing gum or deliberately yawning.
Yoga today!!! YAY!
