Day 1 is done and it wasn't too bad. I read somewhere that cravings last 6 minutes, so last night I hit the timer on my phone 4 times when I thought about getting up for a glass of vino. I was amazed at how engrossed I was in my work that when the timers went off, I was not even thinking about wine 🍷 anymore! I think the key will be to stay busy. Looking forward to moving forward again!7

I can absolutely identify with this. When you think about going without, you imagine it as a whole night of craving. When it happens, though, and you focus on how much time it lasts for, you realise that cravings are just short, sharp bursts, and the key (for me anyway) is a few minutes of distraction.

AF today. Didn’t go to the bar after practice.
Have a party tomorrow and dinner with friends this is weekend. I’ll have wine but only one glass! I’m such a lightweight now, even 1.5 glasses is too much!6 -

Drinking my lemon loaf tea and watching The Voice with hubby and son.
Some reflections tonight:
Been doing more with my family on weeknights and really enjoying it.
I’ve also been more honest with myself about how alcohol affects me. In the past, I never hesitated to drink the night before a day when I knew I needed to be sharp. I told myself it didn’t really matter. Last month, starting to cut way back, I found myself acknowledging that I probably shouldn’t have 2-3 glasses the night before an important day. Hoping to keep that going forward this month!

Aiming for completely Sober October as part of the Last 90 Days challenge.
I told my husband after dinner tonight that I must be making a mind shift. Generally at the end of a long stressful day I am looking forward to a drink to unwind. I haven't been thinking about alcohol at all and I have been working a lot. That at least makes me feel like the daily drinking is just a bad habit and not a physcial addiction.

Last night tested every ounce of my will to not stop and grab some beers - it was the start of the hockey season and I truly do not know the last time I watched a T.O. Leafs game without some Bud Lights. That said, AF ! Hope everyone had a successful day.7

Those kinds of 'associations' (i.e. I always drink with this thing) are some of the hardest things to tough out, so very well done!5 -

I've been having this. I associate drinking with October for some reason,I didn't think I'd have those thoughts but something about how the air smells just brings back memories of drinking with my mom and deceased brother cuz they'd always visit in Oct,I really need to keep my guard up and don't let those feels overwhelm me9 -
All you people with your "runs" and "workouts"...Me, I got no cardio...73 and COPD are my excuse. Finished stacking my winter's 3 cords, and am looking forward to getting a dead [sob] Magnolia tree cut down and into stove lengths. More stacking next week.
The "substitution" theory that has been discussed recently finally hit home with me. The last blow was struck by @MissMay when she mentioned putting off something for years. That ugly basement that lived under my house when I moved in years ago is still living down there, and just as ugly. I used to set a timer , maybe an hour, and then start a chore I hated, promising myself I would quit when the timer went off. Most times I would see the progress and just power through til the end. Time to dust off that timer and set it for ugly basement remediation...Set it many, many times I think. Beyond, there be dragons...
Planning to test drive "moderation" again after my birthday did not go unheard by Middle Daughter. She showed up on my doorstep with a lovely basket full of cheese, sausages and all. No wine, but she offered to go fetch one if I wanted. No thanks, not yet...Y'know, all that stuff is tasting just great with AF beer. Who knew ?????
Celebrated #73 with Brie and AF Coors. Yea ME. 64 days AF this time around.11 -

Today will be day four. Not worried about today, but I can feel the urges starting to rise in anticipation of the weekend. Saturday night was my night-no one else home, just me, the animals, and cider.
I have plans to meet family for breakfast Sunday morning so no sleeping late because I stayed up drinking.
The following weekend will be tough-a three day weekend. I already had those thoughts pop in my head. UGH.5 -

@lilann1961 ...Using a timer with toddlers around is a challenge. My Irish Twins would love to re-set it, just to hear it go ding.4

Yup I did....actually had it planned way far in advance that yesterday 🎂 would be the day. Like I mentioned not having anything for that length of time kept me in line and more in control of my count.

So @forestdweller1 your wood cutting, hauling and stacking is certainly a workout and a half. I have done them many times so don't worry your getting tons of cardio! Good luck on your basement project I am glad to be an inspiration. LOL

Had 1.5 instead of my planned 1 glass of wine at the farewell party tonight (friend of mine is moving). I definitely did not need that half glass of wine. I suppose I bowed to peer pressure- everyone else was drinking glass after glass. What am I, in 7th grade????? Who cares what everyone else is doing? Note to self: was not a disaster, but you are not in middle school!6

Have started off October strong with 3AF days so far and ended Sep with 2AF days so a 5 day streak for me. That even includes a spontaneous weeknight trip to a Mexican restaurant where jumbo margaritas were on special but I decided to stick to water.
This weekend includes special events each night - girls dinner, a friend’s 50th birthday party and my wedding anniversary so I will likely be 3 and 3 at the end of the weekend.8 -
3 Days in, 3 days AF. My real test will be when I go travel for two weeks here shortly.5

Successfully beat this month's first temptation - Wednesday night bowling league. Actually had our whole team refrain from beers this week!
Today is Friday - temptation #2. If we can make it through this weekend without caving, I think we can do it the rest of the month. Husband is not exactly thrilled to be trying this, but hopefully he'll see the benefits over time.
For casual drinkers that used to indulge every Friday/Saturday, what are some of your alternative activities you do with friends, significant others, etc that doesn't center around alcohol?3 -
That's been a tough one for us as a couple @ellie117 we used to go gambling,hang out with friends,go to concerts at the weekend and now that I don't drink and hubs only drinks a little,we tend to just not go out much anymore but tbh I don't feel deprived but I do wish we could find healthy activities to do together on the weekend, waves to the gang and have a great day 💖7
