But this is NOT an AF site, it's about moderation....getting to a place where we can choose to have a drink, or not. Lots of nots.
@forestdweller1 this is such a perfect description of our thread. You have accumulated over 2 months of non-alcohol days and you will decide when you want your next one. Awesome self control.
BTW how cool....your birthday is one day before mine. Let's raise a glass (beverage of choice) to us and celebrate.3 -
Surpassed 1 full week AF! I've only hit this stretch 2-3 times since turning 21 (almost 9 years ago..)
Feelin' good, husband and I even treated ourselves to a pizza/wing dinner to celebrate the no alcohol calories and the amount of money saved by not buying alcohol to stock the fridge over the weekend.
Hope everyone is doing well!
Congrats on you 1 week streak!3 -
@lilann1961 just a tiny hurdle for you. The thing is you kept focused throughout your wine party by knowing how much you were pouring, drinking water and keeping the eating healthy. π4

Morning all,@fitand50inSD I could do them all except get up an hour early π I got a new puppy and he's such a morning person he's irritating! @Plan2Be no alcohol is still"less" alcohol so whatever your plan is still fits,I'm more on the abstaining side just for myself, ugh have a lingering cold-i feel like this is gonna be a bad year for colds cuz it hit early me,hubs, daughters and g-kids all got sick already no fun! Wishes for a great day πΊ
Hope your feeling better with your cold. Now.......did you say you have a new PUPPY? Guess we are going to need to see what this little pup looks like (please)!3 -
Thanks for the reassurance Womona and Miss May. I did have a martini last night but did not go back and pour more. I feel much better this morning than I did yesterday after overdoing it on Sunday. I am going to try for an AF night one night this week.
Your welcome. Take your time, Rome was not built in a day. I have been on here almost two years, and it is truely one day at a time.2 -
@fitand50inSD that sounds like a very impressive challenge. I am going to check it out, thanks for sharing. We love information like this.2

Last night we were shopping out of town. On the way back home we noticed one of our local fun spots had a lot of cars and the sign out front advertising jam session night. So yeah we stopped in. A guy we had not seen in a while was pretty "happy" and buying everyone shots. He came around to us with two shot glasses filled to the rim and we said thanks. As he was talking to my husband, I reached behind my husbands back and poured my shot into his empty beer glass. Right then they both looked over and said wow guess you need another, you downed that quick. I just smiled and said nope I am all good for the night. And I sipped my apple cider in my wine glass.8

Morning all
So, early evening I threw a wobble .... "well, one night off won't matter". Now, I know it won't, but my aim, is to complete one week, just one week, and then take it from there. So, after 2 AF nights, I decided to already "quit" my own personal challenge.
Now, I rarely have a drink before 20:00, habit eh. But I'd started to think of excuses / reasons to go and buy a bottle of wine at 18:00 .... dinner wasn't cooking properly, celebrating my eye appointment, oh anything really.
As it was dinner did in fact come together (chicken and butternut squash curry ... the butternut squash at that point was rock hard) .... and DH came home and said "how's the 3 days without alcohol" ... which loosely translated into ..... "shall we have a drink tonight" ...... that spurred me back into supporting him/supporting me mode, and we both had an AF night
And once that 20:00 had passed and I was settled with a pint (or two actually) of sparkling water and raspberry cordial, all was well with the evening
DH says he is sleeping better, I'm finding it hard to get off to sleep, but I think that when I slept last night, I slept better .... my FitBit verdict seems to concur-ish ....
My initial weight gain has gone (I wish the other xxx stone had, lol !)
My BP is up, but I read somewhere that is fairly common, and should come back down to where it was in a few days. I shall keep monitoring, as frankly, if I can see a reduction, that will be a great motivator.
As I say, one day at a time for a week, and then I shall review.

When I first joined this group and was initially cutting back I used to notice the internal debates that my βdrinking brainβ and βsober brainβ would have which sounds a lot like what you describe. You did great! And it will get a lot easier. Iβm doing what I call mindful moderation and trying to be AF during the week and limit drinks to weekends or special occasions. I no longer even think about opening a bottle of wine on a weeknight when Iβm just making dinner at home for the family. Congrats on one more day AF!8 -
Well another night, the third, with just one (large) drink and no refills and feeling much better despite poor sleep. If I can keep this up for a bit then decrease the size of my drink I will be happy for now. Then to add some AF nights. Can someone tell me the easiest way to respond to posts without copying the whole post? Is it to type the user name with "@"? Thanks!3

October 07 - AF
October 08 - 3 drinks - Tuesday. Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend, already thinking about drinks or drink alternatives for the party day.
October 09 - 3 drinks. Obviously off-track. Normally I have pretty good discipline, didn't plan on having drinks today. Another 1,000+ calories leftover today, lots of skating : - )
October 10 - 3 drinks. Barely got in the door from another %$#&*@ stressful day and had a drink in my hand before even inputting my data and completing my paperwork. Obviously not getting back on track yet at this point. So different having drinks on vacation and having drinks to ease the stress. Relaxed now. This was not a planned drinks day. Kind of falling behind this month, but determined to keep on posting. I know it is better if I have AF days, I will have to get my mojo back. Kind of surprised at how easily I fell back into the habit. I am sure that there are better ways to relieve stress, like quit some of my jobs, but the quick fix was...a quick fix.
Running monthly total: 3AF days out of 10 days so far.9 -
Aiming for completely Sober October as part of the Last 90 Days challenge.
I am not sure if it is being AF, the Last 90 Days challenge or a combination of both, but I have been in such a great mood despite working 10-12 hours a day for the last few weeks. Of course being in my happy place in the desert helps. Headed back to South Dakota (where winter apparently has decided to make an appearance already) on Saturday. I am hoping I don't let the cold/gray sink me into a funk!

Morning all
So, yesterday, about 19:00 I contemplated a drink, but, not overly so, helped by the fact it was dark, raining and DH had alco-free beers in for him (I don't like beer) and I had cordial and sparkling water in for me, and there's plenty of booze in, if I really did want some.
The bad news is my sleep is still sucking, mainly the getting off to sleep, once asleep, it's its normal tossing/turning sleep/waking up, but that's normal ... it's the getting to sleep .... an hour it took last night, an hour ... bleurgh, and that was with a meditation podcast and white music. I shall persevere!
The great news is .... my BP was down, so the initial spike, declined ... hopefully today, it will remain that way.
I have a BP appointment on the 21st, so from Monday I need to keep records for a week anyway, it's been interesting to do it this week and see the effects. (The reason I need to keep records is I suffer "white coat syndrome" so my in surgery readings are abysmal !!!)
So, scores on the doors for me so far:
07/10 - AF
08/10 - AF
09/10 - AF
10/10 - AF
In non-AF news, we've also not had a takeout all week, seriously, this is also major! I am, however, reserving the right to, this weekend, this is not going to be a no-food, no-booze, deprivation centre!!
Does anyone have any suggestions on non-sugary, cold drinks ? Cordial and sparking water is "OK", but it's starting to be a little too sweet and sugary for me. I'm not looking for "sweetener" alternatives though as they badly react with me.

@dawnbgethealthy keep getting in here to read. You may even want to look back at some of your own past posts from months ago that you wrote, encouraging not only yourself but so many of us as well.
Little bump......that is all......we all have them. Coming off a vaca or holiday can be distracting, especially when you throw in a stressful day.

My October AF days are nothing like my past 11 months have been. I have the darn devil/angle hanging out on my shoulder. I want to let loose a bit this month but not get stupid.

Enjoy the weekend @WinoGelato - with all those AF days you are doing great. I am sure you will not get "stupid" @MissMay. My sleep is terrible these days because one of my dogs has heart problems and gets me up to be comforted almost every night, but drinking a bit less means I still feel better in the morning than I was. @Plan2Be I enjoy ginger "beer" and grapefruit soda now and then. They are tangy and not so sweet tasting.3

Hi, just joining this group. Read through everyone's comments and I love it! Staying connected to this thread will definitely help me as I need accountability. Have been cutting back on alcohol for calorie and health reasons but feel myself slipping. My goal is to cut back, not stop at this point. Starting today! Have friends coming over and was planning on wine but I'm going to do a low carb/low alcohol beer instead and have 2. That is the goal for tonight. Saturday 1 drink at dinner and AF Sun - Thursday7

October 11 - Another not AF day. I got into pumpkin spice Bailey's type stuff, sipped a 1/4 shot at a time slowly, haven't had that stuff since last thanksgiving weekend. I had quite a few 1/4 shots, maybe 8 over the space of hours. I will have AF days again, guess that I am just not in the right headspace yet. I will be.
