Awesome check ins everyone. (Yes you too @dawnbgethealthy)
My weekend was fantastic. Yesterday I went to my happy place ( my gardens) Finally recieved all of my order from Brecks. So I was able to plant the 258 Fall flower bulbs.
Can not wait to see them pop through the ground in the Spring and bloom.
Here comes week two of AF. Could have NEVER planted al those bulbs with a hangover or the slug that I become from drinking too much.
Thankful for this place to come and all of you😊6 -

I grew up in Eastern Canada, so have been to Maine quite a few times, but now I am in British Columbia, about 1/2 hour north of Idaho/Washington/Montana area. Still neighbours : - )
I love BC! I used to live in Bellingham, WA and would go to Vancouver frequently. Love it up there.2 -
Good morning all, and happy Monday! 9/20 days AF so far. No drinks Fri or Sat, and only one yesterday at a party. But, it made me so tired! So did exercise, a big meal and a rainy day, but I think I would have lasted longer at yesterday’s party if I was AF.3

I also find I’m getting picky with alcohol, kind of like losing a bunch a weight and not wanting to blow it on a big doughnut.
This month, I can honestly say I only had one glass of wine that was truly delicious and that I really savored. Everything else ranged from “meh” to “just Ok”. So now I’m asking myself if it’s worth it to give up an AF day for something that’s “just OK”.5 -

THIS! It's crazy how much a drink or two adds up for my husband and I, plus tip on the total bill. We have saved hundreds of dollars easily this month by not buying drinks when we go out to eat, not buying beer/liquor for Fridays and Saturdays, and not drinking during our bowling league. Crazy!
20 days AF this month! Made it through another weekend and Sunday football.
Over the halfway mark for the month, hope everyone is doing well!

This is one of the things that was going through my head as I transitioned away from ritual drinking. I decided I would rather have something really good much less often than lower quality more often. I didn't like the idea of trying to fit less calorie options in my day/week at all. That is a really good idea for some people but that does not mean it fits me or my personality. The moments I decide to drink I will have what I want and eat what I want with it. It is just that now that only happens a handful of times a year.
Looks like I broke last year's streak of 160 days awhile back. I am sitting on 181 AF days at the moment. My first planned drink is still not until early December when we will take a trip.

Bellingham is beautiful! And that whole Oregon coast underneath there too. One of my sisters lives in Vancouver. It is 12 hours away from me, I am in the Southeast corner of BC. It is beautiful too : - )
What part of the country do you live in now?0 -

Lapsed Saturday night (3 skinny margaritas and a glass of wine) Date night with spouse so I'm going to cut myself slack. Back to no alcohol and did 90 min spin class yesterday as "penance". Going for weight milestone in next two weeks (halfway there...) so trying to be strict about alcohol (non) consumption over next two weeks.4

Aiming for a completely Sober October as part of the Last 90 Days Challenge.
21 out of 21 days AF7 -
October 16 - AF
October 17 - AF
October 18 - 1 wine, 2 drinks
October 19 - 2 drinks. I did the "wait 6 minutes" thing 4 times, then kind of caved. However, I didn't go for the 3rd like I usually do. Bad to do 2 days in a row though. I was digging my heart out in the garden, still so much to do! The last 15 minutes of it I was like "how lovely it would be to sit in the tub with a cocktail and watch TV after this." (yes, I have a TV in my bathroom) I held out for about 1/2 an hour, and then dove in. Still not quite in the AF headspace.
October 20 - Sip of wine and 2 drinks. Considering that I am calling Tuesday my drinks days, I had at least better be AF tomorrow!!
October 21 - AF
Running monthly total: 7AF days out of 21 days so far.4 -
I guess I got sick of drinking. Friday must have did me in on that. I'm running the Austin Marathon in less than four months so getting ready for this kind of has gotten me thinking... Priorities, priorities... Whatever this week brings y'all, I hope it's a beautiful one for all of you...9

Wow @whitpauly VEGAS! I have to admit I love being in Vegas and for sure could not be totaly AF. You are my new hero! 😉3 -
Just one last night!5

22 out of 22 days AF!
For those of you who drank regularly before starting this challenge - what are some of your feelings so far after cutting back a bit/completely?
My husband and I are in this together, but we don't really feel a big difference so far. We drank Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and most Sundays, so we went from consistent drinking to cold turkey. He is easier to wake up on Saturday and Sunday mornings though How has it been working for you?4 -

I'm a " binge" drinker so I'm always in the middle of a quit😒 my experience is lots of highs and lows, yesterday was really hard to get through cuz first I was struggling with a cold, then my back decided to spasm, pain and sickness are HUGE triggers for me but I'm glad I didn't drink cuz then I'd only feel sicker, you sound really great though!👍8 -
@ellie117
I used to drink 4-5 times a week and would not be able to abstain even before the night of a work event when I knew I needed to be sharp. Instead, I would sleep poorly and be a little fuzzy for the first couple of hours.
I can abstain fairly easily now. I don’t get as cranky in the morning and I’m learning healthier ways of coping with stress and sadness.
I am not completely AF. I drink about 2x/week and try to stop at 2 drinks. Been fairly successful and love feeling more empowered when I choose to drink and when I choose to say no.9 -
Decades ago I decided to only drink "wines with corks" ie "the good stuff" . That did cut my consumption and increase my enjoyment. But the consumption gradually crept back up to the previous level. After going AF for a couple years [changes in latitude, changes in attitude ] my attempt at moderation failed. More AF months, more fails at moderation.
Somewhere there is an answer, but I have yet to find it. My local wine shop reopens just before Thanksgiving, so, one more time...
@MissMay ...please, post a photo when your bulbs bloom next Spring. Mid July in Maine , eyuh ??
@whitpauly .."always in the middle of a quit". That's a place I'm familiar with.
Day 84 of my continuing relationship with AF beer.8 -
I decided to go AF for the month of October (well until the 31st, because Halloween is a day I have always drank, partied, whatever you want to call it), because I wanted to lose some weight and figured with the amount I drank that would make it a ton easier.
Well I have lost a couple pounds, but that is it, I really thought I would lose more.
I usually drank every night, and some nights it was 4 or 5 drinks. On the weekends, nearly every activity I would have gone to involved alcohol, so those were no goes.
I have found myself wanting a drink, but have been able to power through. I am actually quite proud of myself for being able to go 24 days with no alcohol ( I have to say it has probably been at least a decade since I have gone this many days without drinking).
I am going to a brewery on Saturday to see a friends band play, that will be my biggest test of this month, and I still haven't decided if I will drink or not while I am there (it is one of my favorite breweries, so it is a hard decision).10 -

13/23 days AF so far. On a pretty good trend but I fear my rest of the month will be pretty damp.
@dawnbgethealthy we are headed to a Blues game tomorrow night! Friday night the traveling show of Dear Evan Hansen with some girlfriends, Saturday night a Halloween party, Sunday night my Chiefs play... Monday leave for a work trip for a few days, home for Halloween to round out the month so I may still be at 13AF days by then!
Also heading to Philly for a weekend trip first of November, and we are going to a Flyers game Dawn!4 -

Thank you for this! This sounds similar to my husband and I. I have been lucky to never really experience the morning-after effects, but my husband definitely has (he had a long period of having to throw up every morning before work, even if he didn't drink that much the night before.) Finding better ways to cope with the stress of work and depression is something I'm always working on. This month I bought 4 Paint-By-Number kits and am about halfway through my first one. I'm hoping they'll take me through the new year in terms of keeping me occupied and my hands/mind busy instead of reaching for a drink or two.
I'd like to get where you are - drinking one or two days a week but not excessively. 2 drinks is a good stopping point in my mind. Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh, and I'm 23 out of 23 days AF this month!8
