What nobody tells you about losing weight

Just here to complain about the cold again. Need to move somewhere sunny for the winter months now I'm in maintenance.
I'm with you in the UK @ghudson92 so I keep looking for this little pockets of reasonable weather to get out and exercise. I am seriously considering a gym membership for a few months if I have to resort to the car for commuting.8 -

Well....I would be a little cautious. A lot of things may lessen or resolve completely -- absolutely. But losing weight may not solve everything either.
Definitely, I know through my own lessons and failures that weight loss doesn't solve everything.4 -

It depends what kind of exercise you want to do of course, but as a trail runner in the uk I find it worthwhile to invest in the thermal/ waterproof clothing options, and you feel like badass afterwards 😁8 -

I tried to run on Sunday and the cold air hit my poor asthmatic lungs like an ice dagger. Definitely retreating to the gym.6 -
I look in the mirror, I feel I look thin. I look down at myself...not so much. Perspective is weird.21

That deli meat would be such a staple to my over 200 pounds of weight loss. I didn't eat it that often before starting but it is such a low calorie and convenient source of protein that I go through at least a pound a week.23

Same. This and Greek yogurt and my two most consistent sources of protein now.
Also, that I can eat just one mini Halloween candy bar and be satisfied.22 -

Ha ha I used to do that. Then realized when looking down at myself I was bending, slightly, at the waist and everything (ahmm, belly fat) was being compressed into a smaller space and bulging out more.
Try just bending your neck, I felt so much better once I did that.
Oh and never ever look down just before bed when gravity and food have done a number on you

That despite being smaller/lighter than before, that I may be growing out of my fav brands’ tops in the shoulders. The waist/bust is plenty loose, but in anything but the stretchiest long sleeved top, the shoulders are starting to strain. Can’t size up for shoulders without this season’s looser tops looking like a circus tent, can’t size down for a more fitted look through the torso without arms being too tight/short. Bah. But still, yay for muscles.11

This may have been mentioned before but it kills me when big people ask how you did it and I then proceed you tell yourself that doesn't work.
Or the fact that they are will jeer at your progress as a way to justify them not getting off their *kitten*.12 -
I'm a 25 bmi and I still can't zip up tall boots in a regular calf width. It's not even close. I just got dem big calves.24

That I would spend 90% (definitely exaggerating) of my time preparing meals.
Dirty hair. Always.
Also, that I would look real bad before I looked real good. I didnt lose a single pound for so long and would wake up bloated everyday for WEEKS at a time, only cause my body was not used to so much vegetables and fiber. Then suddenly sometihng clicked and one day I woke up looking leaner. Wouldve been nice to know!25 -

I can relate to this so much. I lose inches everywhere pretty consistently, but pretty near zilch on the calves.7 -

On the plus side, all this weight I'm carrying in my calves is not being carried on my stomach. I've never carried a ton of weight in my stomach, it's just all kind of spread out evenly.6 -

I hear ya. I, too, will probably never be able to wear over the calf boots. This goes back 35 years to my high school days when I used to lift weights with the football players. I really developed thick thigh and calf muscles and they've stick with me all these years.5 -

I did not truly realize the power other people's words will have on my weight-loss mindset. A little bit of background, I was always the chubby child and the fat adult. Everybody knew me that way. Fast-forward to 2016 and I weighed in at around 95kg's (I was deathly afraid of the scale and only weighed in 3 weeks into weight-loss so no idea of exact weight at start). Through calorie counting and exercise I managed to lose more than 35Kg's that year and weighed in at 59kgs at my lowest. This was great I thought! Now the easy part of maintenance is here, and there would be no way I would regain... Haha!
Now please realize, I am not blaming other people's words for regaining weight, I am blaming myself for letting their words affect me so much. What happened was that many many many people started commenting that I looked too thin, I should eat a bit more, I was wasteing away... Logically I knew I was within a healthy BMI and that it only looked that way to others because I had lost so much weight, but illogically I started to wonder if they could be right. So... I started eating a bit more. Exercising a bit less, and what do you know, August 2019 I weighed in at 75Kgs again.
Realizing that I was on my way back to that unhealthy lifestyle of old, I started working hard on losing the weight yet again. I am very happy with the 7.5 I've lost thus far and will work to get back to that healthy and fit weight yet again, however the comments has already started again (You are losing too much weight, you look great don't lose any more, etc...)
So what did I not know that I do know now - others may always comment on the weight-loss, but what you do about their words may have massive effects on your life44 -
You have to do so much more clothes washing. Not only do you have less clothing that fits so you wear it more often but when you exercise that's another set for the wash in the same day!23

That within four hours of your uncontrolled, weak *kitten* binge on Halloween candy, you would wake up with the first bout of acid reflux in a year, that it would be horrible, and that you wouldn’t have any Tums or anything else on hand because you had blithely thrown everything out because you were “cured”.
No, you weren’t. Apparently you were in GERD remission.
I’ll tell ya one thing, though. The last eight hours has completely and utterly put the cure on me for chocolate.38 -

I don't like when they ask how you did it, then proceed to say "No I do that, what else?"
I told a woman I cut back on drinking - she said she doesn't drink. So I told her I also cut back on portion sizes - she said she does too. I told her I never drink soda - she says she doesn't either. I told her I go to the gym 5 days a week - she says she can't due to age/limitations. It's like she wanted me to magic-wand her weight away with some magic weight loss secret when clearly what worked for me might not work for her.21 -

I had to think about this for a moment, but you're totally right! When you lose weight off your arms and body, your arms sit closer to your body, and because they're at less of an angle, they hang down lower.15 -
That you'll poop less and that your habits will change. This is totally TMI but whatever, no one knows me here! LOL But yeah i used to poop a lot and have "stomach aches" a lot and really it was just that my diet was so terrible and i was eating so much that i needed to get it out of me so much more! Also I didn't realize just how bad i used to feel all the time. I had a day recently where i felt really bloated and uncomfortable and I realized that i thought that i never used to get bloated but in reality i was just ALWAYS bloated. Like i lived my everyday life bloated. Such a weird thing29

I am admittedly morbidly fascinated with the now-parlor trick I have of how much play I have in my truncal skin, from collar bones to pubic bone, circumferentially, for the first time ever losing weight. It's like (pulls skin up and *everything* moves up with it) "When/Where everything was when I was 30"...(lets skin go and it all goes back to where was) "Where everything is now after 50+ lbs. loss at 45 y.o."...lather, rinse, repeat.
And the fact all the now-visible extra vascularisation still have for the moment for all the adipose I once had *move with it*, especially over rib cage. I know it won't always be so and the skin mobility will improve/blood vessels regress but it is just so amazing I can't stop doing it when am not clothed and in front of the mirror. :P11
