I am amazed at the people who are currently walking 5 miles in about an hour. At my current speed walking 5 miles takes me an hour and a half to 2 hours. I do have some hills but I'm thinking a good goal would be to just speed up! I also ride a bicycle. I can get "steps" on my bicycle by fastening my fitbit on my shoe strings. It takes over 14 miles of cycling to get 10,000 steps. I will start with a goal of 10,000 steps per day.

sugarfree123- Five miles in an hour equals out to a 12 minute mile. That is a really fast speed walk. For me that means that I am walking fast and doing a bit of a jog here and there. lol I walk in the early morning, it is dark and I usually have to jump right into work when I get home, so I tend to put a burst of jogging in here and there. Most days I am averaging about a 14.5 minute mile. Be careful on the hills if you do pick up the pace. Really easy to over do it and pull something.

I had been walking 5 miles a day, but I got sick the beginning of October and haven't been able to get back to my full goal yet. I am still losing weight and doing good there, so I am not pushing myself too hard to get back where I was. Maybe I'm not supposed to walk 5 miles a day, maybe that was too much stress for my body and that's why I got sick for so long. IDK, but I am taking it fairly easy and being good to myself.
Sory you've had too cut back but we must take care of our bodies! I'm just happy you are in our little group and do your best!0 -
I have been obsessed with counting steps for years dating back to pedometers that clipped on one's waistband and often fell off and got lost. Counting steps has kept me moving. I now have a pedometer that I put in my pocket when I get dressed to walk the dogs first thing in the morning and keep in the pocket of whatever I'm wearing until I change to go to bed at night. All steps count for me. Currently my goal is to average 13,000 steps per day.

I am the lady who started this challenge. I have been away for almost 3 weeks. I always try too see we keep the thread going as people ask me too and i've done it for many years now...IT IS SO GOOD TOO SEE NEW PEOPLE since my return....WELCOME and keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!
For the person who said ALL STEPS COUNT...YES THEY DO! I, though, only count the actual steps/miles walked when I go out. I dont count the steps in the house as I feel that's cheating FOR ME. I fear I would walk LESS if I counted those steps so I just don't but too each his/her own....1 -
Ok playing catch up.......Being home from the State park will most likely lower my miles. "Life and chores at home don't stop!" .............. I wish I were still there! lol
