Less Alcohol - NOVEMBER 2019 - One Day at a Time

Enjoyed catching up, reading your posts ladies. We all have our struggles, big or small. I am ten days no alcohol and I was feeling fine until yesterday...I had my first mammogram on Wednesday and got a call back yesterday that the radiologist would like to see me back because I have calcified deposits/spots in my left breast. I cried most of the morning, not what I expected to hear. Thought about drinking but I think drinking when already depressed would send me into a downward spiral that would take too long to find my way out of. So I wait... I go back to the doctor on the 29th for a more in depth mammogram. I'm just trying to stay calm and sane until then...8

Great job on the 10 days. So sorry to hear about the mammogram results. I hope the in depth testing will be negative.3

Planning for No Drinks November following a completely Sober October.
Oct - AF 31 of 31
Nov 1 - AF
Nov 2 - 2 drinks - very disappointed that I used the excuse of stress caused by working too much to break the promise I made to myself. I really wanted to continue Sober October into November.
Nov 3 - AF
Nov 4 - AF
Nov 5 - AF
Nov 6 - AF Still plugging away except for the minor slip on 11/2. I believe in the last 40 days I am AF-39 and A-1. Not too bad considering I was a daily drinker (generally 1 or 2 drinks....rarely more.) Still killing myself with work, but have only turned to alcohol once.
Nov 7 - AF
Nov 8 - 2 oz vodka, 5 oz wine (running tally since Oct 1 AF-37, A-2
Nov 9 - AF2 -
@LoveyChar - Please don't stress about the mammogram. I am 52 and have had my share of multiple callbacks for mammogram anomalies, pap test anomalies, thyroid problems and uterine anomalies. Healthcare professionals these days just need to err on the side of caution. The overwhelming majority of the time, anomalous results turn out to be benign. If you continue to feel stress over these results, I'd encourage you to call your primary healthcare provider to discuss it with them. It's unfortunate that most of the time, people administering these tests don't realize the stress they can cause by informing you that you need a follow-up without much in the way of explanation or details. It's not unreasonable to request a better explanation. Just know we are all cheering for you!5

My goal is 16-20 AF days for the month.
I didn't get there in October, ended up with 10 or 11AF days. Daily drinking is so very easy to slip back into!
November 01 - AF - Really felt like having drinks, but didn't.
November 02 - AF - Worked my *kitten* off in the yard and again really wanted drinks afterward. But didn't.
November 03 - 3 drinks hours ago at a friend's place. Not planned. My plan is for drinks on Tuesdays and either Saturday OR Sunday, although I have two theatre outings (involving wine) on Thursdays this month, but will try to keep it to 2-3 days per week.
OMG, just discovered what "kitten" is!! I have asked people what that meant and didn't get a reply. I see that what I wrote in my last post got rewritten as "kitten". Hahaha : - )
November 04 - AF
November 05 - 3 drinks. Actually, I haven't had any at all yet, but unbelievably just finished work - I was up at 4am and it was a very long grueling day. Definitely going to have some food and some cocktails. I will be happy to stick to my plan of drinks on Tuesdays and one or two other days of the week. October turned into almost drinks every day again. I feel like I am back on track to moderate, definitely glad to allow myself Tuesdays, they are a bit *kitten* ridiculous. Wrote that just to test the kitten thing lol.
November 06 - AF - Not difficult at all. That gives me 4 AF for the 1st week so far, going to try for 5.
November 07 - Not a planned drink day at all. I pulled something in my back this morning during a simple workout, this has never happened. I still had to go into the field and do a whole bunch of jobs (including lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and as it turns out screaming in pain). I had hurt knees this past week and couldn't even skate...only 59, like seriously? Anyway, having a couple of drinks, after the first one I relaxed quite a bit, on the second now. I have some of that icy hot stuff on and bought some robax-type stuff which should be interesting on top of alcohol. I am an active girl, being sidelined from activity is not my jam nor good for my mental/emotional/physical health. No doubt alcohol is probably not the answer, but for now it has relaxed my back a little.
November 08 - AF. Definitely thought about having at least 1/2 glass of wine to soothe me, but had Bengal spice tea instead which was soothing. Hurting unit today, good thing that it is the weekend and I can take it easy and rest.
November 09 - 3 drinks. Can't workout or ice skate right now, my usual way of balancing. Booze probably wasn't the answer, but I had drinks and sort of numbed myself.
Running tally 5AF days out of 9 days so far.2 -
@LoveyChar
Oh my. How horrible to have to wait 20 days!! And then wait for results after that!
Good for you to not drown your sorrows in alcohol.
How scary.
@yamabachi had some very good advice.
I have no advice, but I do care.
Stay strong.3 -
Just joined! Reading everyoneβs posts is so motivating! I used to drink 10 + drinks a week. My goal is to drink 5 drinks a week for November and 3 drinks a week for December. Last week I drank 4 drinks even though I threw a party, and this week I drank 4 drinks. Iβm exited that Iβm doing good in being under my goal this month!7

Nov 5 3 drinks! Always happens when we go to the movies.
Nov 6 AF. I smelled the wine hubs was drinking and was envious. Then I remembered this challenge. It really helped to strengthen my resolve. Thanks, y'all
Nov 7 AF
Nov 8 AF Was tempted while watching TV and saw people drinking wine with dinner on the show. Starting to realize that I'm easily triggered. Helps to have pre-made cold-brew green tea in the fridge made in individual sized (pint) mason jars. I can just grab one when I get the urge to drink.
Nov 9 5 drinks! We got invited to a party at the last minute, so this was unplanned. I knew going in that I would be blowing it. I also blew my calorie budget today by over 1000. Tomorrow is another day.
I am resetting my streak today and continuing to work toward my mini-goal of 7 days AF in a row.6 -
@LoveyChar try not to stress,I'd be worried too so me saying not to worry sounds hypocritical but know I'm thinking of you and hope everything is ok π 9:35 another 24 of no booze for me!4
-
Dinner out with hubby on Friday night, had a nice glass of wine. Then he ordered a Sambuca for after dinner, and I thought that sounded good so I ordered one too. Should have just had a couple of sips of his and not ordered one. I was expecting the usual small glass. Nope- this was a huge pour! There was no way I was going to finish it. A few sips in and I realized it could make me really drunk really fast, so I just left most of it.
Like clockwork woke up at 2:00 AM and had an awful nights sleep! Ugh never again.
Last night hosted dinner party and had only one and a half glasses, then switched to seltzer/cranberry. Feel much better! Back to AF. Still not bad, 8/10 AF days. Some kind of record for me!3 -
@LoveyChar thinking of you! Try to not worry. As someone said above, they want to be overly cautious-probably because they donβt want liability if something gets missed! Hang in there.2

@LoveyChar I agree with everyone else. It is very routine. I have had probably 4 recalls for mamos to be retested. All came out fine.
Last night for me was an unplanned alcohol night. I was feeling pretty good about it and not stressing until the person filling my glass said they had given me 1.5 pours in each. I wanted to stick to only 2 drinks, but ended up having three.......that is over my drinking goal for one day. Don't want to have a melt down over it, but it is hard. Guess I need to listen to some of my own words I give to all of you. And "chill". π

I am wondering if anyone who has done an alcohol free month and then returned to drinking noticed a difference in your ability to moderate your drinking or if you just went back into your normal routine?carolinequinn3705 wrote: Β»Just joined! @dawnbgethealthy oh my.....still not getting any relief for your back πIn the past I would get those ThermaCare back pain therapy wraps that provide up to 8hrs of heat and stick it on. Then I put on a snug fitting shirt or pants (depending on where the back pain was). The extra snug fit kept the heat wrap closer to the skin for quicker repair to the injured area.
Not sure you can have a prescription written for red wine therapy. π4 -

Limiting my consumption on the weekends, but hoping to eliminate Sunday drinking as my Monday weigh-ins have been upsetting the past two weeks.
4 AF this month.4 -
I am so glad I found this group! I drink wine daily and really, really want to cut back. I did a 30 day AF in March (using Annie Grace), and thought I could moderate after that, but was unsuccessful after about a month or two.
Background: I am 59 years old. My husband and I have four daughters, all adopted. Our youngest, now 18, has many emotional and psychiatric dx's. She's been in and out of psych hospitals since she was 7. Much of my life has been to be her unpaid "case manager." Her main dx is called Reactive Attachment Disorder, which is where the person's dysfuntion/anger/frustrations are generally aimed at the primary caregiver. That's me. I started drinking too much about 10 years ago, when she became violent in the home.
This summer, after a trip to Europe with the 3 oldest, which was amazing and beautiful, I got home and found I had just lost my resilience to my youngest daughter. I'd had 12 days of not worrying about what I said/did and not walking on eggshells, and it was really difficult to come home to her.
In August I found a therapist for ME, who specializes PTSD (I have symptoms) and addiction, and we are working through these issues. Most of the therapists we've used have been focused on my daughter's many, complex needs. The needs of the mom have always been secondary. I've also started working with a nutritionist, which is how I got to this site. I'd lost 25 lb over 2 years (!) but gained 10 this summer due to stress eating and drinking. My weight goal is to lose that 10 plus 10 more.
My alcohol goals are short-term. First of all, I've been trying to taper for the last month and a half, but when problems become acute in the home, I drink a bottle of wine. So, I definitely need a better tapering plan. I welcome any suggestions!!
My plan for this week: I will buy one or two spiked seltzers for consumption at night, and no more. Then, I'd like to go AF for 10 days, before Thanksgiving. Then, we'll see.
I love the gist of this group, and so glad to see the support. Good luck to all of us this week.9 -
Great job!! I really liked reading your log ins. Inspirational

I'm in...Currently been drinking wine 5-6 times a week, goal is 2 times per week. My aim is to be AF unless at social events/gatherings instead of drinking to unwind at the end of the day.
Today is my day 1, I have a social event on Thursday, but other than that, should be fine to be AF this week.5 -
Had an unplanned drinking night on Saturday. Stuck to two drinks tonight at book club even though I wanted a third. I knew I would sleep much better if I just had two. Having some yummy tea now and getting ready for bed.
Sweet dreams all. ππ

Haha @MissMay I shall have to ask the doc about that one ; - )
Thanks for the sympathy : - )
I found a stick in the medicine cabinet, looks like a deodorant but is a hot/cold or cold/hot kind of thing and you don't even have to get your hands messy. Feels good. I have diligently been working exercises to relieve knee and back pain on my days off. I miss my cardio (hip-hop dance and ice skating) dearly, but glad that I had time for all of the specific pain/inflammation exercises.
Haven't tried the red wine, but also wanted to heal as quickly as possible, better not to add booze into the mix.3 -

Nov 11 AF We are wine club members at two wineries and have a shipment to pickup at one of them. Today I scheduled a tasting for the pickup on the 23rd. Going to have to keep in mind that I now I have two days pre-committed as drinking days this month (the tasting plus Thanksgiving), and I already blew two against my goal of only 5 drinking days in November. That means I can only slip-up one more time this month, and it isn't even half over yet!5 -

Hi all! Joining in a little late. I just had a wine filled weekend and I'm not feeling good about it. It makes me cranky, anxious, and just blah. I'm sick of the guilt and annoyance I feel the next day at myself. My plan is to check in every day and be AF the rest of November. β€οΈ6

You guys are awesome! It's great to meet you all and feel the same struggles and goals. I read all your posts - and WOW - the struggle is real but you all are working hard to nail it!
Nov. 11 - 15 oz box of (cheap) wine. Significantly lower alcohol intake for me, and I woke up feeling so proud of myself. Tonight I will just drink one of those cans - which is about 2 glasses.6 -
Good luck with your goals @pennyks88 Checking in every day is a very good start. Nice profile pic!
Way to cut back @vvlucky. We don't have the option of the small vessels of wine here in Canada, so if you open a bottle and don't drink it all it is sitting there beckoning. Glad that you are joining us on the "less alcohol" forum.3
