If she doesn't come, why wouldn't you mail them your gifts? This dynamic is really confusing to me, admittedly. I guess because I mailed Christmas packages and received Christmas packages most of my adult life. I know it was hard on my mom, but she was a trooper about it, I guess. We would open our packages separately, and then call when we both had finished, so we could ooh and aah about what we had received and say our thank yous.

They are a newly married couple with a baby. I was going to say "they deserve Christmas gifts," but I know none of us deserve anything. It just seems strange to me that you would only give them Christmas gifts if they come to get them. I am afraid you are headed down a path that you will ultimately regret very much.

Michele ... I'm going to step out of line here ... but the purpose of gifts at Christmas is to express in some tangible way our love for others. I'm certain you believe this. You're a very generous person in so many ways. And I know that you fiercely love your children. Don't use Christmas gifts as carrots to lure others into preferred behavior. You're much better than that.

Machka: Good for you to get your measles vaccination! I’m a proponent of vaccinations to protect yourself and family from contagious diseases. I had a series of two shots to prevent shingles a couple of years ago. They were administered a few weeks apart and were aimed at people who had chickenpox as children. DH has refused to take the shots so far. It worries me. :ohwell:

Barbara: I’m much more likely to drive to Powell’s because there are no bus stations anywhere near me. I have a long list of books to buy and I don’t want to carry them home in my arms. I could call in an order and have them shipped directly to my daughter by Powell’s, but I want to see what I’m buying. She’s asked for used books, and I need to see which used books are good quality and which need to be left on the shelf in favor of new books. It will be an adventure.

Heather: Have a grand trip to Portsmouth to see your friend. Good wishes for your DH to have a quick recovery. :flowerforyou:

KJ: The Christmas Ships parade is a longtime tradition. The boats will be wonderful. This is a group of Portland area boaters who light up their boats with Christmas themes and parade every evening up until Christmas. We look forward to their annual visit. They’re on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers in Portland nightly for weeks and make one trip to parade for us and another location downstream on the Washington side of the river. They’ll spend the night at our city docks and go up the Multnomah Channel the next night. That will lead them back to the Willamette River in Portland.

Lanette: Powell’s Books has been a go-to destination for our family for years. My son and his good friend loved to prowl the book stacks in grade school days. My daughter, too. I think those fond memories are why she’s asked me to buy the books for their Christmas presents there and not through amazon. :bigsmile:

Yoga today was marvelous. The schedule will be changing and will be far more predictable-- 10 am Monday, Wednesday & Friday. I will have no trouble getting there on the right day and time. YAY!!!

Katla! i just dropped in to read the last few days, and saw your post re the shingles vaccination. I got both shots, but last winter I had my first outbreak of shingles. The doctor said it was probably such a limited outbreak because I had the shots! It is VERY unusual to get an outbreak if you’ve been immunized.

All I have to say is, if mine was a limited outbreak, I don’t EVER want to get a bad one! It was truly miserable, and was in my scalp and face. It can threaten your eyesight if it goes to your eyes. Losing my sight is something I’ve worried about since I first got glasses.

Corey's in the shower, leaving for his Christmas party within the hour. I decided against a cow sweater that I would never wear again (haven't worn LAST year's Christmas sweater ever again, that's how I know).

I started on keto this week. Doing fine so far holding under 50 carbs, but am pretty sure the headache this afternoon was sugar-withdrawal. It will only last a few weeks, and I'll be settled in.
