Rebecca Love the sign! And I’m ready to remove the scale until next year.
Kim I can’t imagine all those cookies!! I’m grateful I don’t have to bake any since I am not eating any this year. It’s hard to stay away from sugar!!
FrankiesGirl Pretty tree!
Michele Your yard sounds incredible. We haven’t put anything outside. We talked about a garland around the deck, but that’s not even happened so far. The quilt is so very precious! I hope everything works out okay so that the kids come to you.
Lisa Your quiet Christmas sounds lovely! I love sitting in front of the fire together! Your quilt sounds beautiful! I’m sure your niece will love it!
Heather We have been receiving deliveries from Amazon, also. I don’t plan them that well, so they arrive in splatters. DH comes in and says what did we get today? I also order from Walmart which works about the same. I use them to deliver so I don’t have to carry it all in from the car. I need to send a gift to the delivery man!! I also love what you said about Christmas and memories. I keep hoping to have better memories every year instead of dwelling on the past – but it is difficult at times.
Suebdew Nessa looks so beautiful!
Allie I hope you hear good news about the job soon! What a great holiday gift that would be!

Hello to everyone. I am mostly set for Christmas. I have been to 2 Christmas socials and ate very little at both of them. I have my shopping done and most of my wrapping. Next on the list is to think about food...but that can wait a week or so!3

Hi Gals,
Michele – What I was thinking was you hop in a plane uber/lyft to Denise’s help load the car, then join them in the drive to your house, they spend the holiday time with you and DH and then if she thought she needed the support ride to their home with them then hop on the plane and fly home. So I was thinking 1-2 days away from home at either end, and just you, DH to stay home with lights/cats/ect. Sorry I wasn’t clear. And from the responses it seems clear that this idea would not work for you and your family. I of course have neither kids or husband – so sometimes things I would do at the drop of a hat are impractical for other life styles.
I’m continuing to sew like crazy, but the amount of work sitting here waiting to get done is slowly shrinking.!!!

Yesterday's “todo”s (reschedule MD appt, make KJ's adult fudge, rum balls, light the tree, chiro appt, make cheese ball) done yesterday. Today Joe took Shadow, Tumble and me to House Rock and the dog park. Meant missing the first half hour of T'ai Chi, but since I've been nagging him to do something with me, felt I had to take the opportunity. Took Shadow in drenching rain to dog group, introduced her to the 4 faithful people and Tuco the wonder dog. She was a little hesitant and shy of both at first, but followed Tuco ok and was reasonable on the leash. It was drenching, blustery and cold so we all gave it up in less than 10 minutes. Got so chilled I started sneezing and pooped out on Advent services. Tomorrow will grind almonds for almond crescents, prep veggies, grill chicken breasts, make spiced maple pecans for Friday's sweet potato dish, comb Tumble, do another load of laundry and sneak a few ornaments onto the tree when Shadow is outside with Joe.
KJ thank you THANK you thank YOU for your adult fudge recipe. Have been trying to make fudge for at least 60 years and yours made the absolute best ever, and not just for the booze. Perfect texture, not too hard, not too gooey, melt in your mouth YUM. It was a huge hit at the chick flick night. BTW Kurt Russel has aged very well, and was appreciated by one and all.
RvRita ((hugs)) for coping with your bearish DH. Brava for maintaining!
Amber your DH “Me Caveman” cracked me up. So that's why Joe buys pinto beans and rice in 50 lb sacks! I'm a bit of a food hoarder too, pantry is crammed but it's all stuff we use. Freezer purge is going better and fridge is right where it should be. Do NOT look at the candy stash in my office, OK?
Sue in WA “1000 pound horse” walked over you? OWWW.
SuziQ thanks for the link! Will try that method with my next fresh pineapple. your attitude about your journey and could not agree more about gratitude for this safe place and the wonderful women who make it so.
Yvonne, the DDC and Merry 394.266. While library collection search engines are certainly faster, I miss the wonderful old card indexes in their oaken cabinets.
Michele “... and not a single one broke...” Oh, nooooo!
Welcome rumbaimom, walkswithart.
LuciB thanks for the Shark recommendation.
Rebecca “when what to my wondering eyes should appear...” you got me snorting my water again! Then... “planning” hahaha.
Kim “106 dozen” cookies not as many as you usually do??? OmiGosh! Who gets all those cookies?
Frankiesgirl21 lovely tree.
Michele, that litter box cake does NOT sound appetizing to me :noway:
Machka your fixed length text file format error rejections remind me of the shopping carts of computer printout “dump”ed because I keypunched a comma in the wrong place. :(P “...so maybe I'll put on some Christmas music”. Great idea!
Lisa your “deep in the heart” quilt design sounds perfect. Can't wait to see it
Margaret 'Decorating is fun for me because it makes me think about all the people who had touched my life “ Ditto. Mama used to make 2 different kinds of cookies, almond crescents and holiday nut balls. I make at least 2 sometimes 3 kinds of fudge, 2 flavors of rum balls and usually some English Toffee and/or spicy trail mix in addition to those cookies. This year I'll skip the trail mix, the holiday nut balls, and maybe the toffee, but not the almond crescents, for the Mama memories.
Heather you look so happy in those pics. ;}
Beth great news about your labs and glucose levels. So happy for you!
Tina in CA safe travels!
Suebdew “[Riley] lights up our life, keeps us active and brings us so much joy” Yes! So glad Joe changed his mind and we now have Shadow to keep us all (including Tumble) active and joyous.
Kay are you OK?
Gratitude day #27 small daily used thing: my electric toothbrush. Gives a structured time for balance practice (thanks Kate in UK) while cleaning all those teeth I want to keep.

Small thing that happened today - I am reading a history of Caesar Augustus and his heirs. I remembered that, when my first son was born, I would read 'I CLAUDIUS' as I was breastfeeding him in the middle if the night. I had an inkling that the TV series must have been on around that time, which was why I was reading the book. I wanted to check when it was on. Googled it. Yes! It was on while I was pregnant and the last episode was a week after the birth.
I am so grateful for being able to fact check my memories.

Well awake at 12:45 and been awake since then.. Ugh.. I have been just texting Tom.. he has made the decision to put our sweet Chester to sleep, Tom has been an amazing doggy dad, he would do anything for the dogs and has, but he knows its time..of course everything happens all at once, and I am expecting my delivery this afternoon after work, I have the phone number for the freight company and will call them and let them know someone will be here to check and sign if im not here..I need to be there with Chester.. so glad I had him over.. and that Tom and Elena will be able to go to Florida without worry...7

Day 28 - December 12
Hm, I have not been up that long so not much has happened. Up to this point in the day I am grateful my body is "regular" which really isn't a small thing.1 -
Greetings one and all.
Allie - So sorry to hear about Chester. You really have had a go of it. We are all sending positive thoughts you hear something soon about the job. Big hug to you.
Michelle - I hear you. But Christmas is less than two weeks away and I was thinking by relaxing a little on the issue you will feel better and be able to concentrate on all of the good things and traditions you enjoy. And, sometimes in the letting go we are actually showing more love. Reading through your story has made me appreciate my mom's life lessons. My childhood was not an easy one, but through it all she made sure I was comfortable in my own skin. She understood I needed to grow and flex on my own and create my own path and traditions. The hardest thing to do is to let go for any of us. And, thinking about how stubborn I can be, if someone puts the heat on too high to choose what they want/desire, the more I go in the opposite direction. So maybe with less pressure and/or acceptance the outcome you desire may happen.
Heather - I enjoyed seeing the pictures of you and your cousins. I agree it is wonderful to fact check our memories!
Barbara - What a schedule! Maybe I should not be in such a rush to retire.
KJ - Would love to have a copy of the adult fudge recipe! I usually make two to three batches during this time of year and the recipes are cheaters with Fluff and/or condensed milk.
Lisa - Your Christmas sounds lovely. Charlie and I would spend our Christmases together with a once-in-a-blue-moon drive up north to see the families. And, honestly, I loved the quite ones more than the stressed be here, be there ones.
Well ladies I have to cut it short as I am trying to get in to work by 7. We are going through user acceptance and data validation tasks which have all of us totally stressed out - especially since we are also moving like mad to get deals closed up so we can have another big year. On a very bright side we are going to be receiving our holiday bonuses tomorrow. And, we are also building bikes for Children in Distress. The money, no matter how much (we never know), is always appreciated. Give me a penny more and I am happy!
The scale has stalled. Which is entirely due to me. I have been enjoying tastes of my favorite things. I am actually very happy because I can enjoy the season. I am not ignoring the scale because its daily reminder is the way I remind myself not to over-indulge.
Hugs to all.
SuziQ - S FL4 -
SuziQ - Definitely not a small thing.
Going out to vote in a minute. Windy, rainy.
This afternoon we have Edie's school performance. It is mainly in Spanish. She is a bit nervous, so she will be pleased to see our friendly faces. I was always more nervous when family was around, but most people find it comforting I guess. We will probably get a taxi because it is 30 minutes walk away and DH is not at all well with his cold. He still did his gymming though.
I keep thinking I'm getting his cold, but so far, so good.
I was awake early this morning with Christmas angst. My lecture to myself - DON'T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD. The important thing is to have a lovely warm intimate time with those you love. The biggest gift you can give anyone, especially children, is to be really present with them. A rushed, anxious hostess is not a good memory. Your loving, happy presence is.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -

Because I eat more on sight and texture than taste, I would have a very tough time with a cake like that!!
And yep, it's the same sort of thing. One of my files recently was rejected because I needed two commas at the end to designate two blank fields. I had checked previous submissions and thought mine looked the same, but missed those two commas. I get a big red dot beside the file that says "Fail" when something like that happens. Fortunately I don't take it to heart, I just start searching the file for missing commas, etc.

We went through these 30 Days of Gratitude in November last year. Feel free to join in whenever you'd like ...
All right ... it's mid November and this will take us through to mid December ... just in time for Christmas!!
Day 1 - November 15 - Smell: My sense of smell is limited and my husband no longer has a sense of smell (or taste) since his accident. However, I can catch a faint scent from the roses and freesias he has grown, which are all coming into bloom.
I'm thankful that he has been able to garden and that we have so many lovely flowers and veggies growing and blooming.
Day 2 - November 16 - Technology: My laptop, my phone, email, facebook ... the fact that technology exists! It's what I do ... it's what I learn ... it's how I communicate with family and friends.
Day 3 - November 17 - Colour: Well ... I'm thankful for the bright colours on my table. Especially since this spring has been quite gloomy. They make me smile.
Day 4 - November 18 - Food: I'm thankful for my weekday lunches ... chicken, rice and veg.
Day 5 - November 19 - Sound: How applicable! I just got my laptop connected to my stereo!! I am appreciating the nice soothing music in the evenings.
Day 6 - November 20 - Nature: All of it! I am very thankful that there is nature ... animals and plants, water, rocks, mountains, hills, all of it. I'm glad I live in a place where I can see and experience nature. I couldn't live in the middle of a large city. My ideal would be in a small town or right on the edge of a larger one so I could be surrounded by countryside in seconds.
Day 7 - November 21 - Memory: I'm thankful for memory. I'm thankful that my husband has some of his memory - he's pretty good at past memories and procedural memories. I'm glad he didn't lose that. I'm also thankful that, with a bit of effort, I've been able to improve my memory a bit. I've discovered that if I focus and work at it, I can remember people's names at least some of the time! I've had to be my husband's memory.
Day 8 - November 22 - Book: Most grateful ... the Bible. It's been a comfort to me, especially in recent times.
Also grateful for books in general.
The last 18 months I've switched to reading "children's" books. I've also found them comforting.
Day 9 - November 23 - Place: I'm thankful for my bed!! Although I'm not there nearly as much as I'd like to be, my bed has become one of my favourite places to be. There I can lose myself in books or sleep.
That said, I need to get a new pillow. Might have to see about doing that tomorrow if possible.
Day 10 - November 24 - Taste! Well, there are only 4 of them: salt, sweet, bitter, sour, and I've written them in order of preference.
I am thankful I have all 4 but I wish my husband did again.
Day 11 - November 25 - Holiday: How appropriate ... one month before Christmas. Christmas is my favourite public holiday. I'm love the music, the decorations, the food, the Christmas Carol evenings, the lights, and the celebration of Jesus birth. I'm thankful that we have a Christmas holiday.
As for holidays in general, I enjoy any opportunity to a) take time off work, and b) travel. I'm very thankful I live and work in Australia where I get quite a decent amount of holiday time.
Day 12 - November 26 - Texture: Smooth. Since the measles (?) in 2016, I need to wear very smooth clothes. I've been thankful to find such things at a good price.
And the soft texture of the fur of kitties.
Day 13 - November 27 - Abilities: I am very thankful for my organisational skills. I don't know how I would have survived with the past 20 months without them!!
Deep breath ...
Day 14 - November 28 - Sight: What sight am I grateful for?
The sight of all the roses and other flowers in our garden.
The view from our dining room window out over the water.
The beach my bus goes by morning and evening ... sometimes there is sea wildlife out there. I've seen dolphins, a stingray and a whale!
The mountain behind the city.
Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
...
Day 15 - November 29 - Season: Summer. I'm always thankful for summer! The warmth. The long daylight hours. I come alive in summer. One more day till summer!
Day 16 - November 30 - My Body: I'm thankful for my brain and my legs. My brain, because it often has to be a brain for two of us now and although it fails me now and then, I'm so glad things like my memory seem to have improved. And my legs because they are what carry me around and allow me to do things like cycling and running.
Day 17 - December 1 - Knowledge: Coincidentally, my current course is Knowledge Management. I appreciate everything I've learned through formal education, experience, and life in general. I'm especially thankful for being at a point where I feel reasonably comfortable around computers ... but can still learn more! Even just today, I learned how to add contacts into my phone.
Day 18 - December 2 - Piece of Art: Hmmm ... I am thankful for my sister-in-law's art and gifts to us. She has given us paintings, wood carvings, and vases.
One of her vases ...
Day 19 - December 3 - Touch: My husband's hugs! There were a few months when I thought I'd never have his hugs again. His hugs were one thing I dreamt about during those months.
Day 20 - December 4 - Who in my life am I grateful for? My parents ... who have been so supportive of me through all I've done and been through. I love them both and hope that one day, in a few years, we'll be able to live closer to them again.
Day 21 - December 5 - What song am I grateful for? This is a really difficult one. I like music of all sorts!! And what I listen to on a particular day largely depends on my mood. I'm just generally thankful for music!
Day 22 - December 6 - What story am I grateful for? The Christmas story is special. And the little stories that make up our lives ... "Remember when ... "
Day 23 - December 7 - Tradition. Hmmm ... I don't do a lot of traditions, I don't think. My birthday weekend might be a new tradition. I've been actively doing that for the 10 years I've lived in Australia. At Christmas, I probably have the most traditions and I am thankful for them for the connections ...
Day 24 - December 8 - Challenge. The biggest challenge of my 52 years of life was when my husband had a workplace accident which resulted in a severe brain injury 20 months ago. I'm struggling to be thankful for that.
Challenges I am more thankful for are all the opportunities I've had to cycle long, long, long, ultra long distances. I hope to be able to dabble in that again.
Day 25 - December 9 - Moments This Week. In the 7 days that has passed, I'm probably most thankful for the at-home weekend during which time I was able to finish my first assignment for my current course.
Day 26 - December 10 - Form of Expression. Writing, I think. I write much better than I speak. I'm much more comfortable sitting down and writing something rather than talking to someone. I'd really miss the ability to write.
Day 27 - December 11 - What small thing that I use daily am I thankful for? Lots of things!! But just for fun, I'll say ... my big comb!
Machka in Oz
Day 28 - December 12 - What small thing that happened today am I grateful for? Coming home at the end of a very long day, hopping into my pjs, and putting on The Lost Christmas (Trans Siberian Orchestra). And just moments before all that, walking from the bus to home with my husband and spotting the Christmas lights on our house. They were a nice welcome.
I'll have to take a more recent picture this weekend ... this is from 2016. This year the lights are more zig-zag.
Machka in Oz5 -
Long, long day today!!
I left home at about 8:30 am to catch the bus to work ... and came home about 10 pm.
I had a full day of work, trying to get these submissions done. As usual, the process is crawling along.
And then my husband and I went to the AGM of the local Brain Injury association. In a quick and painless meeting, among other things, I've been elected as a Committee Member on the board. I'm a General Member, not an Office Bearer.
After the meeting there was mingling and Christmas goodies, then my husband and I grabbed a quick dinner at Zambreros.
Now, one of the difficulties of not driving is that buses are infrequent in the evenings. We got to the bus stop at 8:15 pm, but didn't get home till 10 pm.
Tired now!
Tomorrow ... I just don't know how it's going to go. Dr appointment in the morning to get measles vax, shingles vax and have punch biopsy on mole. I didn't react to the first measles vax so I hope I don't react to the second. But the rest ... who knows.

Suzi Q- This is the fudge that I (or my son) makes every year. We aren't Jack Daniels fans; so we use Grand Traverse Cherry Whiskey. Gives the fudge a wonderful chocolate covered cherry flavor (with a punch!). The person who wrote this recipe online forgot to add the chocolate to the list of ingredients. So...you will want to make sure you have a 12oz bag of chocolate chips. We use dark chocolate to go with the cherry, but the semi sweet works just as well. It does use marshmallows; so it isn't a true fudge. But it helps it set us so nice and keeps a really smooth texture. Not grainy at all.
Warning: Not conducive to any weight loss plan. lol https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/dessert/dessert-candy/jack-daniels-fudge.html0 -

I like my fudge grainy, almost crystallised. What in Scotland they call Tablet. Don't like anything added to it. Haven't made any in about 7 years.
DH isn't in a fit state to go to Edie's concert. Going out to vote nearly finished him off! I will go alone. I've ordered a taxi for 1.45. My son wants me there early. He said 'Wrap up well'.

Thank you KJ! I am laughing.....5 cups of sugar and the recipe states it serves 10! Oh, my. I do love fudge, but like sharing it more. Maybe instead of the cookies I plan to bake (my weakness) I will make fudge this year!1 -
My favorite fudge recipe for this time of year. I do not make the peanut butter version. I layer the other two. I make the chocolate version, allow to cool, and then layer the white chocolate version on top. I do not microwave - I cook on the stove top. And, skip the food coloring. It's really pretty with the green pistachios and the red cranberries and looks "special" since it's layered.

For the "left over" ingredients (yes, I alter most recipes) I just make a small batch of regular chocolate fudge. KJ this year I may add cherries. I love that combo!0 -
I am over at Tom's with both the boys.. Homer is sticking close to Chester.. Chester not drinking or eating... it is time.. but oh I am heartbroken..Tom has made an appointment for 5:20 tonight.. we will all be together ...this is the part that I hate about Owning an animal7

I am happy today because my new dog walking shoes arrived yesterday (thank you, Amazon, for remembering what kind of shoe and what size I had so I could order the same ones again). I didn't realize how bad the old ones were until I tried on the new ones and wore them to walk around the house last night.

Allie, I'm so sorry you have to say goodbye to Chester. You've had one heck of a couple years, my dear friend. Thinking of you today.2

Happy Thursday ladies!
BarbaraAHMOD - I love your long posts, your comments have led me to go back and scan for missed posts more than once.
Have you made any decisions on WIndows 10? This morning, this laptop, after going through a large Windows update, started acting twitchy. Didn't get a blue screen but refused to boot until it did a lengthy utility. Sigh. Now that it's working I hastily did backup of my budget file, but I don't trust it.
Maybe getting a cheap Dell on sale with Windows 10 and downloading Open Office might be a decision I'll have to make sooner than later. I'll start shopping for them when I'm in town tomorrow.
Will do a defrag and see if that makes it happy in the meantime.
Beth - your success with 19:5 is very, very inspiring. Thank you for sharing! Doing the happy dance for you.
It's been a great year for many of you who have adopted a Keto or modified fasting plan.... a few years ago, these types of plans were unheard-of. Thank you so much for sharing!
SuziQ - if WW hadn't changed their website several years ago after Oprah bought in (not blaming her, I know it was time for them to get smart-phone friendly) I'd probably still be there. I was at maintenance and able to use the site for free as long as I weighed in with them every month or two. But their switchover wasn't very functional on my PC despite their promises they were working on it, and now there very few meeting sites in our area for weigh-ins. Overall I like MFP lots better, and this group is tops!
Allie - (((HUGS))) Chester will be missed a lot!! But as you said, Tom & Elena won't have to worry about him anymore when they head south for a bit.
Starting to read “On the Brink of Everything”. Interesting essays. Taking time to digest them. On the brink doesn’t have to connote something negative. It can be on the brink of a breakthrough. A new way of thinking. I can choose.
In reading how so many of you handle the stress of Christmas and family far away with diplomacy and patience, I realized what I can give myself this Christmas:
Forgiveness. Freedom to not judge and not be resentful. Freedom to find that silver lining and be grateful for everything, not just when things go my way or people act like I think they should. (That's a hard one as I look at DH, lol) I try to keep this foremost in my mind all the time, but at Christmas it seems more necessary.
Barbie, glad your new walking shoes arrived. Happy feet, lol.
It's getting light out, and the rain isn't here yet. Time to pull on my shoes and get going.
Make it a fabulous Thursday!

Since being on MFP my food hoarding has improved a lot! Went from 2 fridges full to a partially full one. Cabinets no longer are full along with the pantry. Less in the garage than before used to be cases y cases out there. Look into a Food hoarder who’s still working on it:
