Karen - That is a GREAT idea. I love it. I can't remember who said this: "Men. You can't live with them. You can't shoot them." So, I love the women-only gated community idea.2

After being thoroughly vetted, male applicants would be bussed in each day to do any tasks/chores the women didn't want to do. Also to have sex when desired. The men would all have to be on the bus & gone by sundown so the women could, if they wished, meet for cocktails/mocktails, dinner, and evening entertainment. No f@rting allowed.

Checked the roast, still hard frozen, so postponed that meal/prep 'til tomorrow.
Early this morning Joe fired up the chainsaw, walked down to the lane and cut down two trees (alder?) that were falling into the road. Came back with the light of action burning in his soul, “Let me chop down those bushes!” Noooooo! They are rhododendrons, and while we’ve been gradually pruning them back, they are still a wild mess. Yes, they’ll grow back, the ones in the flowerbed did. But it takes awhile, and I believe these are holding up the side of the hill on which our house rests. Joe agreed to whack only what I said he could, so there I am, in robe and slippers, pointing with a walking stick at which branches and where he could cut. Was able to save about a fourth of the branches, enough I hope to keep the roots alive and the hill in place. Joe has most of the line of sight to the driveway he wanted, and seems content, though he’d rather have taken them down to the ground. Ah compromise!
Then checked email and… Woo HOO! $5K matching grant approved! Riding high! Lisa and all, thanks for your encouragement. Will let the “next thing” wait til (way) after the New Year.

Change in NYE plans.....the host has the flu and pneumonia so the party is moving to our house. Talk about quick house cleaning. Hubs ran the sweeper while I cleaned toilets, washed towels, did the load of laundry that needed done, put up the dishes that were drying, etc. The house is ready, I'm exhausted. We also had to make a mad dash to the store for drinks as we didn't have a lot on hold since we weren't hosting. It will be VERY bare bones since it is last minute, but if they don't like it, they can leave. There are actually 4 people that are supposed to be coming that I wouldn't have invited to my house, but don't feel it would be fair to uninvite them at the last minute. I don't hate them, we mingle fine at other events, just not someone I would invite here if I was the inviter. There is a 50/50 chance they won't come since it has switched to our house. We'll see. Luckily it is a small crowd expected and most will leave by 1 or so.

Happy Make Up Your Mind Day!
"As New Year’s resolutions go, this may be the day to decide which ones to declare. The day may be used to determine other decisions as well. Career changes, family decisions, and large purchases often keep us from moving forward. We waver between multiple choices or sometimes a simple yes or no. While some life-altering decisions are made on a whim, most people deliberate and weigh the pros and cons before making these types of decisions. If a decision has you hesitating, make a decision. This day is the incentive to make a choice."
Tina - Ouch! Sorry you got clocked by an ice pack... that doesn't sound pleasant at all! Hope a good rest will set things right.
Machka - What a cool web site! I love looking at all the fashions! Our greyhound adoption group has used Great Gatsby-themed galas as fundraising events several times... makes me wonder if they'll do it again. It was a lot of fun to get all dolled up for that.
Allie - Congratulations on booking your trip. Wishing you the trip of a lifetime!
Meg - Your post reminded me that I still need to go get Philip and do our plank for the day!
Got back to my workout schedule yesterday with a session on the ski machine, and went back to the gym today for strength training. I'm still weak and feel a little fluttery after a workout, but I'll just take it easy and do what I can. Right now it's more important to get the habits back after two weeks of sick time than it is to have a great workout.
I had set myself kind of a "stretch goal" of losing 20 pounds before our trip to Colorado in February. It was a long shot but do-able if everything went just right. Unfortunately, losing two weeks to the plague will pretty well make that impossible to accomplish in a healthy way. I'm OK with it, though... all I wanted to do was give myself something to aim for. Getting back on track with my workouts will be good enough, even if I have to lay off the intensity until I'm back to 100%.
Now I've made up my mind to go plank!

@Anniesquats100 I had to stop getting in the hot tube because my blood pressure would drop when I’d get out. I came close to passing out a few times until I got the hint. Looked it up and sure enough it was the hot tube. Now going through menopause changes things too! Between the hot flashes, the dizziness and the lightheaded moments...Lord Have Mercy!!6

Hope everyone has/had a good New Year's Eve. I am back at my house. Suitcases unpacked. Will do laundry tomorrow. Cats seem happy to see me, although the one who is part Siamese has a bit of an attitude. A bit iced here--SIL who lives around 15 miles north of me has lost power several times. My lights just flickered. If they go out, I will pull out the flashlights.
While it was great being with kids and grandkids, it is good to be back in my own space. They would like me to seriously consider moving out there after retirement, so I guess that is what I will sort out over the next year. It would be good being close to them, but not sure how I feel about "starting over." Glad I don't have to make that decision today!
Antibiotics kicking in for grandson--it is amazing how quickly kids can turn around.

Welcome to returnees and newcomers.
And a thousand thanks to our leader, @barbiecat for keeping us going.
For those who may not know me:
I’m Terri from Northern Ireland, and I am working on improving my fitness and health. AKA ☘️ Terri
DH and I will celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary next July.
We have 2 daughters, 3 grandkids. And live in a town on the coast near Belfast. .
December Update:
Original Goal for 2019 was to reach 155lbs, achieved, and revised it down to <150lbs. Weight has been steadily trending downwards. I am now at my lowest weight in 4 decades! I have been bouncing around 150 since early November 2019.
Just a few details on my personal journey to health and fitness.
Aim for 2019 ~ reach 155 <150
Aim for each month ~ Weigh less at the end than I did at the beginning ✅
Age: 73; Height 5’2”; Female
SW: 227lbs (Mar 2014)
CW: 151.4
(75 lbs Discarded:- not lost, not looking for them 😂 😂 😂)
LW: 149.8: 30 November 2019
Some background info:
- For the last 3 years I have tended to bounce up and down between 160 - 170. Occasionally I bounced up/down a little more.
- My ideal situation would be to be below 155, to allow me some wiggle room for holidays/celebrations, hence my original goal for 2019, which I have now revised down a little.
- I use CI/CO and a variety exercise for extra calories.
- Logic would suggest that I have found a natural comfortable weight, and, according to modern BMI calculation, I am in the upper range of normal for my age and height. However, logic doesn't always dictate our desires and feelings. 😂
- Getting and staying healthy and fit requires the development of a permanent lifestyle reset.
- Replacing unhelpful habits with more useful ones is key to to the process.
- Losing weight is only one of the elements.
- Eating healthy and staying actively is not OPTIONAL, but an ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts on weight which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be several lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a permanent lifestyle change for most people.
