Meanwhile, my husband and I had a great 31 km bicycle ride this afternoon!!
Some days have very good moments in them!
M in Oz3 -
Pretty much the same as last month ... aside from exercise, this month will include ...
-- work ... I've got several projects I should try to finish or get on top of by the end of the month.
-- university ... I start my next course on Nov 11. It's a spring/summer course and entirely online so I'm curious how it will go. Later in November, I need to enroll in my course Semester 1 courses.
-- cycling club ... I have a lot of work to do in this area!!
-- website ... lots of work to do and start attending Wordpress meetings again.
-- husband ... becoming more involved with our local brain injury association.
-- medical ... attending a whole pile of different physio appointments and other medical appointments. There is not a single week without a medical appointment of some sort.
-- and continuing to organise things at home. I've been working on this for a while now, but especially since I wrote my exam on Tuesday!!
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- exercise every day or just about. Eating ... could be better. Sleeping ... not bad now that I've got my cocoon of silence.
Work -- working on instructions these days, but I see emails starting to come in about other projects. They'll be for next week, I think.
Uni -- I've downloaded the initial information for my new course. Will need to acquire a textbook. And I've enrolled in the remaining courses for my Master's degree.
Cycling Club -- I'm focusing on this right now. Several things to do!!
Website -- must look at it one evening this week. I've got a Wordpress meeting on Saturday.
Husband -- we're going to a Brain Injury forum next Monday. Plus his BPPV flared up again this week, so we've had that treated. If you are having trouble with dizziness and balance, this is a great site with lots of information: https://vestibular.org/
Medical/Health -- I have a complete physical booked for next Friday, but had to go into a Dr early because of the spider bite. It is starting to fade a little, I think, but the medication makes me a bit nauseated. I have several other things I need to book - probably next most important is dental for my broken tooth.
Organisation -- first the cycling club stuff ... then I'll have to wade into more organisation stuff.
Recreation -- exercise, entertainment (symphony, plays), and photography are usually my recreation, but I'm starting to think ahead to time off over Christmas and travel.
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Need to start exercising more now that I'm almost recovered from spider bite and medication.
Work -- still working on instructions these days, but I see emails starting to come in about other projects. They'll be for next week, I think.
Uni -- Will be doing a lot of reading this weekend.
Cycling Club -- I'm focusing on this right now. Several things to do!! I made some good progress on the website last night which I was really pleased about! But most urgently: We've got another cycling event on the weekend which we're hosting ... tomorrow! I went shopping at lunch for it.
Website -- must look at it one evening this week. I've got a Wordpress meeting next Saturday (1 week).
Husband -- went to a Brain Injury forum last Monday which was quite interesting ... projects coming soon.
Medical/Health -- Complete physical today.
BP is a bit high. Will be tracking it over next couple weeks. Had ECG - good. Will have heart ultrasound soon.
Got measles vax. I am in the age group that only had 1 vax but 2 are needed. I may have had measles in 2016, but just in case I didn't, I want the vax!!
Booked appt for shingles vax.
Dentist next week.
Organisation -- first the cycling club stuff ... then I'll have to wade into more organisation stuff.
Recreation -- exercise, entertainment (symphony, plays), and photography are usually my recreation, but I'm starting to think ahead to time off over Christmas and travel.
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Walking more + lifting some weights. It's sleeveless season shortly and I'd like my arms to have some muscle tone.
Work -- Finishing up instructions, starting to get into projects. I've got 4 projects before the end of December
Uni -- Much reading + need to start first assignment.
Cycling Club -- I'm focusing on this right now. Several things to do!! Website + prep for December 1 event.
My Personal Website -- must look at it one evening this week. I've got a Wordpress meeting next Saturday.
Husband -- always a never-ending stream of medical appointments + some projects with 2 or 3 different organisations.
Medical/Health -- Tracking BP. At home, it's OK. Heart ultrasound on Monday.
Booked appt for shingles vax, second measles vax, and mole biopsy.
Dentist on Friday.
Organisation -- first the cycling club stuff ... then I'll have to wade into more organisation stuff, but kind of picking away at it.
Recreation -- exercise, entertainment (symphony, plays), and photography are usually my recreation, but I'm starting to think ahead to time off over Christmas and travel. I'm off for 16 days and we'll go away for a few of them. I've booked peace and quiet!! I hope! Hopefully there will be some beach time too, both at home (we live close to a beach) and away ... and cycling time!! It would be fabulous to be able to cycle and/or run/walk every day during those 16 days!!!
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Trying to fit it all in. So tired.
Work -- And now all the projects begin + a couple extra I hadn't anticipated. Four projects due tomorrow!
Uni -- Much reading + need to start first assignment ASAP.
Cycling Club -- Several things to do!! Most importantly right now, we've got a big event on Dec 1 which I'm organising. My stomach tightens.
My Personal Website -- I have started working on this. I'd post it here, but not sure if I can: machka . net That was a bit of fun.
Husband -- Never-ending stream of medical appointments + projects with 2 or 3 different organisations. **I actually asked for one of them to reschedule!!** I don't usually do that but when they wanted me to take an hour or so out of my day tomorrow, when I've got 4 work projects due ... I just couldn't! It actually felt good to ask them if we could reschedule! Small victory.
Medical/Health -- Had heart ultrasound on Monday. Watching BP.
Booked appt for shingles vax, second measles vax, and mole biopsy.
Need to see chiropractor.
Organisation -- Can't do much of this till closer to Christmas.
Recreation -- Not much of this until Christmas.
Feeling really stressed this week.
Pretty much the same as last month ... aside from exercise, this month will include ...
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Trying to fit it all in. So tired. And yes, I need a new pillow. I sleep on my right side and my right arm is killing me.
Work -- Lots of work projects until Christmas.
Uni -- Much reading + need to complete first assignment ASAP. That's my main focus outside of work this week.
Cycling Club -- I have a few things to do to wrap up our event on Dec 1, and a national committee meeting next week, but then I've got a bit of a break from this till January.
My Personal Website -- I have started working on this. I'd post it here, but not sure if I can: machka . net That was a bit of fun.
Husband -- Never-ending stream of medical appointments + projects with 2 or 3 different organisations.
Medical/Health -- Booked appt for shingles vax, second measles vax, and mole biopsy. Need to see chiropractor about my right arm.
Organisation -- Can't do much of this till closer to Christmas.
Recreation -- Not much of this until Christmas ... unless you count Christmas decorating!

Update:
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Got a new pillow which is wonderful! And I'm getting bits and pieces of exercise in despite my right leg.
Work -- Got done what I needed to get done. But lots of work waiting in the wings for January.
Uni -- Completed first assignment. Completed half of second assignment. Need to finish second assignment ... and so much reading. I'm doing a bit each day but I'll probably have to pick up the pace.
Cycling Club -- I think I've kind of got things organised. There's lots to do, but I think I've got a plan.
My Personal Website -- I have started working on this. I'd post it here, but not sure if I can: machka . net That was a bit of fun.
Husband -- Never-ending stream of medical appointments + projects with 2 or 3 different organisations.
Medical/Health -- Second measles vax and mole biopsy done. Shingles vax in early January. And CT scan of nose etc. on Jan 14.
Organisation -- Maybe in February?
Recreation -- Taking a work break now!

I used the morning to get in touch with a friend I hadn't talked to in months. Turns out she was in a terrible car crash and was in intensive care for two months. Husband got on the line and said he thought he called me. I told him he had enough on his plate and I understood he needed all his attention on just getting through those months.
It was a total shock. Talking to her she sounded great. There were a few things after I knew in retro spect I could tell something had happened to her. She did suffer a brain injury.
She was hit on the way to work by a man speeding and possibly on drugs. He did not have a license and no insurance. She can no longer drive and can no longer work at the job she loved.
She is lucky to be alive. She said part of what saved her is she had an Apple Watch that alerted the emergency squad she needed help. Have you heard of this? My car has ONSTAR if I choose to activate it. After what happened to her I will think about using this feature.
Sorry to hear about your friend Margaret. I do not have an Apple watch so was not aware of the feature. Technology definitely has many upsides.0 -

Dawn ~ Your grandchildren are precious! So glad to hear you are recovering so well after your hysterectomy and continue to wish a full recovery for you.
Rebecca ~ I couldn't get the post about Athena to come up. It was a mish-mash of different photos.
Allie ~ Glad you are having a good time in NYC. I think it would be so exciting to be there but I would not have the courage to go to all the places you are visiting on my own.
Michele ~ I think we can all understand your hurt, but, we all want you to move beyond this and understand that you might totally alienate your relation with Denise if you don't. At least she texts you and that shows that she feels close to you. It makes me wonder how close you were to your family when you were her age. Did you want to create your own little traditions that were different from your father's and grandmother's?
Have the two grands coming to visit this AM while their mom keeps the nursery at their church! No problem because they will be glued to their computers. Granddaughter and I will make the brownies I never made during Christmas and we will get pizza for lunch.

Good morning ladies!
Up early. Wi-fi on the blink during the night. I did did the magical "unplug the modem for a few minutes" tech thing and now we are back up and running. Playing catch-up.
Karen in VA - I hope Olivia is doing better. That photo of her was a heartbreaker, you could just see she wasn't feeling well. Any plans to go visit this year? I reckon your partner needs to be back on her feet first - hope SHE is doing well!! I got such a hankering for biscotti after seeing your batch I grabbed some "Nonni's" brand at the store. Not as good as home-made but still good for dunking.
Evie - good to hear from you! Hope we get a quick catch-up from Tracey one of these days and all is well in her busy, busy world .
Machka - will you need any more surgery on your leg where they took the biopsy or did that procedure take care of everything? I always enjoy reading about YOUR busy life. Happy for you that you are getting better sleep with the new pillow!!
Barbara AHMOD - so very sorry the crud is keeping you down. Sending plenty of healing hugs down your way!
Rebecca - seeing Athena just brightens my day. Hoping Owain's CO will remind him and everyone else in his unit to "send your folks/loved ones a quick Merry Christmas message"!! At the very least!
I've noticed this year that most of the neighbors on our street took down their outside decorations the day after Christmas- one still has the icicle lights up along the eaves and that's a ladder job. Past years, they stayed up until after New Year's.
Margaret - what a shock about your friend. Very sad. Hope she can regain enough to eventually do some type of work again.
Rori - hope your DH slept through the night. James Clear has several good articles on his website that I've been reviewing this past week, many of which he probably incorporated into "Atomic Habits". Are you on his weekly email distribution list? Very nice photo of you, DH, and your brother.
SuziQ - Scottish eggs! Love them! I made them this past summer with chicken sausage and they were divine. I'm loaded with eggs right now so need to put sausage on the grocery list. ***by the way, I've been misting the little palm plant daily. It's holding its own - thanks for the tip!**
Time to feed dog #1 and let her out for her run. Back later.
Make it a super Sunday, ladies. Last one in 2019!

Margaret - Yes, newer Apple watches have the ability to call for help when falls are sensed if you set it up. I would think that would include the impact of a serious car wreck, but I don't know that for sure. The watch will "tap" your wrist and let you know it has sensed a fall. It will audibly ask if you are OK, if it doesn't sense movement for about a minute, it will start a 30 second countdown and then call emergency services giving them your location in longitude and latitude. It also contacts your emergency contacts listed in your watch app (again, if you set it up) and lets them know a fall has been recorded and emergency services has been called.

Hello ladies! Happy Sunday!
Karen VA- Poor sweet Olivia! Sending big hugs to her!
Amber- Hurray for JR learning from mama! Identifying and making letters is no small feat at age Two!
Rebecca- Sending lots of hugs to you! Athena is adorable! Hang in there with your youngest. When my kids began to spread their wings and I wasn't hearing from them for days/weeks, I had to tell them, "Just send me a quick text every couple of days that says, I'm fine. That is all I need to know. We don't need to talk more." After that I would get a text saying so. That was a tough time, for me. But my kids needed that time to figure out things without feeling that they were running to mom for help/emotional support. Hugs to you, because it IS haaaard!
Michele- LOVE that light display! My favorite features are the arch, the penguin snowball fight and the carousel is very sweet! In regards to Denise, Pete, PJ, Maria. It hurts my heart that this is tearing you up, but I think you need to just let go. Not let go of loving them, but just send the love, send the gifts; let them know you are there for them when they need you. Do not look for anything in return. I am sure, when Denise gets more comfortable in the role of mom, she will reach out to you. In the meantime; you live your life. Don't sit and wait for them to find time for you. Get out and do the things that you enjoy doing. Definitely send text messages of love and care; but mostly just love them without strings attached. The kids will come around.
Apple Watch users- I saw this article some time ago and was just flabbergasted at what the watch was able to do for this man! I am not a "tech" person that needs to have the latest and greatest; but this news made me want one for my hubby! https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/bike-crash-left-spokane-man-unconscious-but-his-apple-watch-called-911/
Beth- What a great proverb to live your life by! Thank you for sharing!
Been busy getting my daycare year planned and also planning the Jan/Feb calendar and activities. I still need to plan my vacation time for the upcoming year. It doesn't look like my daughter and her family will be able to travel our way. They have started the Dave Ramsay financial program. So, they are nose to the grindstone putting any "extra" $$ towards getting out of debt. Along with home and car debt, they are both trying to pay off student loans. Plus, hospital bills for Miguel's birth are starting to roll in! Yikes!
The township board meets mid January. My zoning request is still on the docket, so as soon as that is voted on I can get busy hiring an extra staff member and getting all of her training/requirements out of the way.
I feel like I have so much in my head that needs to be done, that I am just inches away from moving to a frozen "stasis" type place. Where it is overwhelming and I can't take the next step because I am anxious about all of the steps that come after. Maybe I need to write it all down in the order that they need to be done and just focus on the "first" step. Maybe write them on a stack of post-its so I am only looking at ONE at a time?
It is supposed to be in the 50s today; I think I am going to take my outdoor deco down. Tim won't like it; he likes them up through new year. But since I head back to work on the 2nd and it is going to be out there taking them down (not him), I would rather do it when my fingers aren't in danger of freezing off.
Love and hugs to all of you wonderful women. Trying to decide on my word for 2020...leaning heavily toward Determination.

Getting ready for last two days on vacation. Eating hasn't been as horrible as it has in the past. While food has been good I am looking forward to getting back to my regular schedule of eating and exercise. Haven't been on a scale, but can tell there are a couple extra pounds, but clothes fit so that's good.
Grandson woke from nap yesterday with fever. He, my son and his wife all got the flu/respiratory thing about a month ago and it isn't going away. Saw lots of that in Ohio also. Hopefully he is better today. They gave him some tylenol and once that kicked in he ran around like normal, He is sleeping in late for him so we shall see.
Surprised this am that it is 34 in Phoenix and and 51 back in Ohio. Figures that when I come here in winter for first time, they have one of their coolest in forever! Hope to get out for a walk in a bit.

Kelly, it does help me a lot when I can time-stack my to-do list, but not if I nail it to a specific time. So I split them into "In Progress," "On Deck" and just general "To-Do" that don't necessarily have a time-tick, like so:
That particular program is Microsoft Planner, which comes with a lot of Microsoft Office packages, but is missing in quite a few others, so you might or might not have it. But it would be easily recreatable with a stack of post-its or a bulletin board that you could divide into three and line post-its up under. I seldom have more than one or two in the "in-progress," and as I complete one, I pull the next "On Deck" piece into that. So I'm really only feeling the pressure of one or two. It's been quite helpful.

Good morning beautiful ladies 💐💐💐!!!
Debby in Va5 -
To distract y'all from pondering Michelle and Rebecca's kid conundrums, I've got a new one for y'all.
First, to the story behind the question - my daughter is pregnant, due for a C-section Jan. 6, and after a scare a couple weeks ago with early labor, may actually make it that long. She has two kids, nearly 5 and nearly 9 years old. And a husband who is both utterly fearless (paratrooper) and also thinks he's funny. She lives six and a half hours away.
The husband bought their 9-year-old son a quite-large snake for Christmas. One which my daughter just sent me a picture of feeding on a live mouse. I will not post this for you (you're welcome). I hate snakes. It doesn't QUITE rise to the level of phobia, but I really hate being around snakes. I grew up in East Texas, with coral snakes, water moccasins, diamondback rattlers and copperheads infesting the area, and have great reflexes where snakes are concerned - I can be 10 feet away in one step. Kind of "watch the fat lady levitate" trick, works really well, and honestly, I'm OK with it. Once again, I live in country with the same snakes I grew up with, and I LIKE my reflexes to be sharp.
I've already told my daughter this, and her answer was "You'll be fine." She, her husband, son, and daughter love the snake, and the dad as well as both kids, having been taught by dear old dad, are inevitably going to drop that snake in my lap because THEY think it's funny. In the mindset of practical jokers everywhere, they do not care what happens next, as long as THEY think it's funny.
Someone or something will not survive that encounter.
I never thought practical jokes were funny, they are almost invariably cruel, and funny only to the jokers, not the victims. This is also part of our daughter's lack of respect for others - she totally ignored my husband's request that she NOT bring the dogs to our house when they came through. Completely traumatized our cat, without caring whether or not they did so, because they wanted the dogs with them. She will also totally ignore my need to not be around that snake.
I'm not going to badger a pregnant woman about housing that snake elsewhere while I'm there. So what the heck am I supposed to do?
'Tis a conundrum. Advice?

I've been out for my 5k. Just got back. The sunshine tempted me out as I had a pretty sleepless night. I did my exercises this morning as well, so I am feeling very virtuous.
The seafront was busy as usual on a Sunday. DH came with me and then he went on a bit further when we reached my turn around point. I was feeling pretty leaden by the time I got home, but I made it!
Not sure what caused the sleeplessness, but it could be that I am anxious about our trip tomorrow. I've got to the point where I hate travelling in cars, and three hours is a long time for me on busy motorways. I think I'm going to sit in the back, where I can read, or listen to something. Otherwise it's just fear for me all the way.
I hope I sleep tonight.
Lots of love to you all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
LisaInAR- maybe let your daughter know you really want to be there and would greatly appreciate it if the snake and you didn’t meet in Any way, shape,or form. She is obviously aware of your feelings and should respect how you feel.
Debby in Va3 -
Rebecca: I have no idea why your son isn’t calling as he should. It hurts my heart for you and your husband. Too bad we can’t give him a good boot up the backside. Pip could go first to show us how and we could all take our turns.
Allie: I am delighted that you’re having such a good time in NYC.
Michele: When I speak to my son I usually text first to set up a call. He sets up facetime. During the call I talk to DS and DDIL. When I call my daughter I usually talk to her first, and then sometimes the grandchildren. I’m not much of a fan of her DH and we don’t have much to say to one another. I love your Christmas lights!!!
Margaret: I’ve never used an Apple Watch and didn’t know it had such a valuable safety feature. I know that my cell phone has the feature.
(((Evelyn))): Uneventful can be very good, especially if you have enough fun to keep you smiling. When I set my goals, I added one that says have fun every day. I’m relatively easy to please in the fun category. Yoga classes are fun, walking the dog on a dry day is fun, horseback riding lessons are fun, setting up Christmas decorations is fun, and taking them down is less fun. In the long days of low light winter, turning on as many bright lights as I can in my home helps chase the blues away for me. We have replaced incandescent bulbs with solar temperature LED’s wherever possible. They brighten the house and reduce the electricity bill all at the same time. They also help to vanquish the winter time blues.
Machka and Rita: I love the Brightside message, “Don’t wait for things to get better. Life will always be complicated. Learn to be happy right now, otherwise you’ll run out of time.”
Carol in GA: Enjoy the time you’ll be getting with your grandchildren today! I’ll admit to a little envy because all of mine are far away. I think your comments to Michele are good advice.
Barbara: Sending good thoughts your way. I hope you feel better soon. :flowerforyou:
KJ: The story of the Apple Watch calling 911 is impressive and thought provoking..
(((Lisa))): I “hate” snakes, too. My intellect knows that garter snakes eat bugs and are not dangerous--except they can cause a heart attack when unexpectedly seen moving. :ohwell: I agree with Debby in VA—your daughter should respect your feelings and leave the snake at home with a critter-sitter if needed. :flowerforyou:
It turned out that Walmart doesn’t sell dog meds any more. The vet is the only supplier for this medicine so we’ll be getting it from the vet. This time they gave us enough meds to last at least 4 weeks. Yay! An improvement!!
I have a riding lesson at noon today! I am looking forward to it.

Machka one of the clues was how she talked about the accident. She has little memory but she said a couple of times she was hit in the head with the GPS. I think what happened is the GPS in her Apple watch is what helped save her. In trying to tell me about it that is how it came out. There were a couple other things she said like this. That is how I knew she did suffer brain injury. She is getting all kinds of therapy that insurance will soon run out. She has been given many techniques she can continue. Her best therapy is her grand kids and she was a teacher and is an avid reader. Her reading was affected but she is still able to read. She also knits. She has a loving supportive husband. I know he was listening to our conversation which was fine with me. He was there in case talking to me was too overwhelming.
I was just happy to hear her voice and I referred to him a couple times in the converstaion and said how glad he was there for her and how difficult this was for him too.
The caregiver often gets overlooked because so much focus and energy is spent on the one who is hurt. As it should be. I am just saying the caregiver needs support too so they can do their best for there loved one.
I will often ask someone who is in crisis what are you doing for you. It is not selfish to give yourself a break that you know is right for you.
Husband got a fortune cookie that read ..."If you judge people, you have no time to love them."
Now I tease him if he says anything critical. Where is the love where did it go???...

Found this about difference between active and total calories on Apple Watch and other activity trackers:
“If you're unsure of the difference, we've got answers. Simply put, active calories are those you burn while walking, climbing, jogging — whatever you do for exercise. Total calories include active calories and resting calories, which are those your body burns naturally, even when you're just lounging on the couch.”

The Samsung Health function on my phone does the same thing. It's amazing how accurate it records activity when I am carrying it.
Hope all is well Rita!0 -
Michele: I understand that you’re disappointed at not seeing Dense et al over Christmas. We can’t control what others do, but we can decide how we react to their actions. I’m sad that you are upsetting yourself over what others chosen to do.
It’s really lovely that you went to the trouble of making the dds picture for Maria. Why don’t you wrap it up and then you can give it to her the next time you see her or visit Denise.
Love you lights video. Well done on posting it!

For those of you that use kettle balls what is your routine? I just discovered them at our Planet Fitness. Did a few sets of swinging with a 10 pounder and love how it felt. Got my heart rate up there and felt the workout all over. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Lisa - Unfortunately, I have no advice. I too am terrified of snakes. I think I would choose to stay at a hotel and limit my time at the snake house to the very minimum. Maybe visit while she is still in the hospital so you don’t have to go to the house? It’s bad enough to know the snake is there, but to literally be waiting for the snake to drop in your lap.........ugh!
