Waiting for the parents to come home.
It's been a long day, but we have survived it well. We spent a busy morning doing crafts and outdoor play, then I decided to take them out for a pizza which is a walk away. Then afterwards I had the bright idea of catching the bus back to our house.
We watched a beautiful short film I had recorded yesterday. Then we caught the bus back again and had a decent walk back to the house.
Phew!!!!
It is now just gone 4 o'clock and I am mighty tired.
TV will be going on soon I think.
I know they really appreciate our efforts and the kids love the expeditions. They sit on the top of the double decker bus, right in the front. And pizza and ice-cream is always fun. We got quite a lot of walking in and they did some trampoline earlier so they have worked off a bit of energy.
A good day. But I hope they get back soon.

DDIL has ordered some lovely jewellery to replace the ones that were stolen. The jeweller is an old Iraqui Jewish refugee who makes everything from scratch. They were very lucky to get the insurance money, but, of course, it's never quite the same as having the pieces your grandmother left you.

Rebecca - could you get your oldest and middle sons to have a talking to the youngest and help him understand that reaching out to Mom is a critical part of growing up.
Kim
Well they have tried contacting him, but his phone is never turned on. Maybe he never paid his phone bill. He is never on Facebook or Steam, a gaming platform. When I call it just says this number isn't available at this time, and his mailbox is full.4 -
Rebecca: Your neighborhood is charming and the tiny car is cute. It gives me a good mental picture of your real car. :flowerforyou:
Terri: Your fireplace mantle looks like ours except for color. Our outer mantle is painted white with white marble above the opening. The logs are ceramic and the fire is natural gas. It is cheery and produces heat if we turn on the built-in fan.
Machka: You live in a lovely place.
Pip: Love the photo from seven years ago!
Carol in GA: Good luck to your son and his family. I hope things turn out well for healing the dog’s injuries. :flowerforyou:
I’ve heard from both of our adult kids. DS and family have been reassigned to a military base where he will be teaching. The house they’ve been assigned is lovely and they are settling in and happy. Our daughter’s DH was a jack*ss at the family Christmas celebration. He went home and she and the kids stayed with DMIL. I hope it turns out well in the long run. :ohwell:

Thanks its a quiet court and I am already familiar with the card that should be and ones that just use it as a turnaround. Here's our real Spark, all cute when we got her in Warrenton.👍

Christmas is stacked on my kitchen table! Need to organize, remove pieces I don't need. Then put in bins different than last year, so opening bins is like opening presents! Haahaa!

Rebecca I am so sorry your son has gone silent. I can understand why you are upset. It's weird and disconcerting. (((Hugs)))

Is it wrong to be cooking a turkey, and the most exciting part is simmering the carcass for broth? Lol, I do envision some turkey salad sandwiches, and furthermore soup! My eldest son's Chief came by last Tuesday and have him two bags of food. One bag was a 10 lb turkey, and the other bag was trimmings ie: cans of veggies, box of dressing and a big bag of potatoes. It took me back to our food bank days. I don't think as a single guy, he has told people he is living with his parents. But he was allocated that. Maybe the Chief thought we were visiting?
We bought some Christmas candy on sale. One package I have to son, the other is husband's Tootsie rolls, and I bought a bag of mini bites candy of various kinds. I did save the package because it shows the nutritional info. That will keep me honest. Only 3 of the Snickers bars, and 4 of the dark chocolate mars bars. It is kind of liberating to not plan on breakfast meals. I am back down to 235. After years of staying around 240 its nice to find a new normal. Nightly I do a countdown of weight numbers, envisioning how I would feel, what I would look like etcetera. It is a mental thing, like positive reinforcement.
Well I recd 40 Christmas cards this year. Nice, and they seem to still be arriving! I shall recycle someway into a flat ornament for next year.👍. Putting diamonds of cut up cards into a pattern maybe.
Hope everyone's day is going well.💖

Karen in Virginia, yes its puzzling behavior. He has grown up having a phone put into his hand to speak to older brothers in the Navy. It was excitement, and something we all looked forward to. Family is only as strong as the glue that holds it together. Glue is communication and inclusion. His birthday was in November that came and went, and now Christmas. Its hard to write letters "that seem to go into a void", there's no info on his side to draw from.

Took the water class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 45 Minute Full Body Workout with Weights DVD. After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army, just got a few Christmas ornaments, then went to WalMart. Came home to put the refrigerated items in the refrigerator then the soup kitchen. I think Mrs. Sourpuss is basically just getting out of my way. Which suits me just fine.
They had fried chicken patties on a bun with potato chips and fruit cocktail for dessert. She was dishing out the desserts and trust me, there were A LOT of dishes left over. Anyway, she had them on another cart, too but the spoons in just the box and the napkins in just the package. I took one off the one cart and was reaching into the box for a spoon when she said to me “there are spoons over there”, I just said “where”. Evidently, she had them loose on the front of the other cart. Really, what she should have been doing is wrapping up the spoons in a napkin so I (and the other servers) didn’t have to touch the spoon and give people napkins (which is wasting). We don’t have gloves on (we probably should) and I think she does or she should. I don’t think she did today.
Barbie – Ken and Vince know each other thru a forum that they are both on. Lynette his wife. She is the person who many times asks me to bake something for her to take somewhere. Ken is the person who is on heavy duty pain meds, he has a spine problem that can never be fixed. She doesn’t like to have company but is more than willing to go somewhere. Ken is a real nice guy.
Nancie brought these pimento cheese things here Christmas Eve. I just threw them out, no one is eating them. Started to clean out the refrigerator to get things for Colby to take back and even for Jess.
Made yogurt in the IP last night. I was surprised there wasn’t as much whey as I’d seen on the internet. But it might very well the fact that I used Fairlife milk and they used whole milk. It’s actually quite good – better than I expected
I’m thinking of wrapping up the diamond dotz that I made for Maria, mainly to make her feel guilty about not coming. The only other thing I can think to do is to offer it to Jess. What would everyone else do? It’s not like the dd cost me a whole lot of money.
Denise called yesterday to tell us all about what PJ got for Christmas. Of course, no mention of something like “your presents are in the mail”. Not that I expect any. I did text her to ask if she and Pete got our gifts.
Luci – yea, we all know how you held the baby “so mommy could eat”. Right!!!! Glad you liked the pics of the trees. I still have to get around to putting the video of our outside decorations on Flickr. I’ll get there – eventually
Okie – have fun
After the soup kitchen went to Michael’s to get yarn for a tree skirt I’ll make a friend of mine. Actually, it was on sale but the price on Amazon was still cheaper. They did pricematch it, but if I hadn’t looked online they wouldn’t. They gave me the senior discount plus 50% off one item (the crochet hook). So in all I save a little over $5.
Made applesauce in my IP. All the recipes online say to add water, but I don’t think you need it. Unfortunately, I ate almost all of it already. So many recipes call for sugar, but I didn’t add any. It could have been a little bit sweeter, but I think that is a function of the apples. I used these Sweet Tango’s that Jess brought. I had no idea how they would work out.
Made a lasagna for us for dinner tonight. Went over well, especially since it wasn’t something from the store but something I made from scratch.

hi all I hope you are well.my computer is going nuts. I have to buy a new one. finished with MacBooks for me. 4 broken screens in 4 years. In each case I first replaced (500 $) the screen, only -in each case- to have it quickly break again. This last one was a real dud. After 2 years, I found out the stuck keys (since first month) and -much worse- defective ports- which I had gone to macbook store about and which they had said were fictional- were defective. 2 years with new, expensive computer that didn't work properly. Got them replaced and right away some keys sticking again...
whinge whinge.
not in a good mood. I had clear workplace harassment -many registered letters threatening to fire me illegally- in 2015 to 2017, and we're at deadline for filing a claim for it. so, this thing that I've put behind me, I have to look at and talk about again.
long story. having to think about it really puts me in a bad mood. we have to make requests for some fee as there were legal fees to be reimbursed, but the incidents are so numerous. it's long and unpleasant and a bit confusing (what to include and what not to include and how to phrase it).
I had a half a glass of wine yesterday as a relaxer. it helped some. I'm really not in a habit of intentionally self-medicating with alcohol.
I need to find healthy ways to self-soothe more quickly. not let myself get down so much. I like hot baths but one can only take so many. About 20 years ago at the very moment of a particularly complicated and difficult break up I took 3 short hot baths per day. (just for a few days).
Also thinking about this stuff makes me feel stressed and preoccupied and not sociable.
a new day. I have to buy a computer and a new helmet. my spare helmet was stolen last spring (not the end of the world-it happens), and with the major transport strike here I sometimes need to give someone a lift.
It's common for people to walk and hour and more to work these days. or do 1h walking plus 1h train/bus etc.
Looking forward to breakfast: lately I've been having squash seed flour (high protein), coconut flour, squash seeds, almond flout (ran out though), frozen blueberries, soy yogurt (good here) soy milk, a sprinkle of cereal flakes and sometimes 1 tsp of maple syrup. it's like cereal but with much more protein. and green tea.
to dos and donesdone yesterday: saw lawyer, got lots of good info, meditated 10 min, cleaned 15 min, work 3h on legal file, shopped for new computer, got some good advice yesterday, laundry....to do today: gym, buy computer, helmet, toothpaste, work on legal file and filing), clean 15 min, med 10 min.

Oh my word, I am TIRED! I went to sleep early for me at 10.30, but woke up at 5.30. I feel like I'm walking through treacle.
How DH does it I don't know. He does twice the playing that I do, but it seems to give him energy. He was still playing football with Bea when I had taken to the sofa.
I will do my exercise this morning and then take it very easy. DH has a doctor's appointment this morning for his bad back. It's not at our usual clinic because they are full up, but at one 2k away. He will walk there for the exercise. At least it's a start.
I know I have put on lots of weight over Christmas. I feel fat. My pudgy middle has expanded. Getting back into a routine will be the key. I haven't been doing my bonus exercises in the afternoon and a couple of days we had a truncated morning session. Of course, I've been eating more than usual. I am too scared to weigh myself. I was already up from my target weight before the holiday. I can just about fit into my clothes, but they are tight.
Back to serious logging and my normal exercise regime.
We are going to DH's sister on Monday for the night. I hate long journeys in the car and I don't like strange beds, but I love her and we owe her a visit. I'm sure we will have a wonderful time. Definitely the last celebration of the season.
Like a lot of people, I like my normal life and routine and thrive on it. Exercise, sensible eating, writing, and a bit of dancing and socialising keep me sane. I love to see my grandchildren and adore them, but phew, all three for a whole day throws me out of sync!

Michele I wanted to comment on your yogurt-making in the IP. My Instant Pot Duo 60
7-in-1 has a yogurt function. I don't have to scald milk on the stove. Does your pot have a yogurt function?

Morning ladies
My weight has crept up by a couple of pounds, can't believe how much alcohol, chocolates and biscuits have been bought for me this year. I'm going to put most of it away, I'll take some to my sister in law when we next visit, she loves chocolate, and needs the calories more than me. I'm keeping away at the moment as I don't want to give her my cold. She starts her chemo on 15th January and I'm praying that it will help. She is taking iron tablets to build her up, and a few days beforehand she has to have a steroid injection. Not sure why.
Heather I can't believe people were swimming in the sea on Christmas Day. It was quite a nice day here in York, but too cold to go swimming, on our dog walk I wore an extra jumper, coat, hat earmuffs and gloves! (I hate to be cold) oh and if it is wet and muddy I wear my waterproof trousers and boots.
Amber - Happy Christmas, I think it is today you are celebrating with your daughter.
Almost at the end of the year. I don't usually make any New Year resolutions, but I might try for a goal for the first 3 months. I was watching "How to get your S***t together", on YouTube and it was about making quarterly goals, and breaking them down into bite size chunks. That way rather than having resolutions for the whole year that usually fall by the wayside within a few weeks or days you have a better chance of keeping them as you can revisit them every quarter to see how far you've come or what you need to do to get back on track.
In the first 3 months of 2020, I would like to have new flooring, going from the hallway into the kitchen. This does depend upon me making up my mind what laminate flooring I want ( ) and once bought, DS finding the time to do it. At least now we have a timescale for it to be completed.
Anyone else making NY Resolutions?
Love to all

Heather I like to sleep in my own house. I'm up in the middle of the night frequently, sometimes for a couple of hours. It's torture to be awake in the night in someone else's house.

well ladies~ I woke up at 1 and have stayed awake.. ugh..oh well maybe the excitement of the day. we plan on going to the ground zero memorial , wont do the museum today... but will get lots of exercise. rain for tomorrow so maybe the museum then.4

Finally have time to myself. DH has gone out for the day with his birdwatching pal, and I can do as I please.
I plan on a little pampering today.
Allie: Have a lovely time in NY.
Heather: I fully understand! I feel exhausted after having DED and her brood staying over. Five extra adults in the house is far from a restful scenario. But I love them, and it was wonderful having the family together on Christmas Day, but I'm so ready to get back to normal. 😂
Michele:I’m thinking of wrapping up the diamond dotz that I made for Maria, mainly to make her feel guilty about not coming
Viv UK: I know what you mean. I have so much food just hanging about saying 'eat me' which is hard to resist. I will gift a lot of it over the next couple of weeks to get it out of the house. I use goals rather than resolutions, and will be updating my goals going into the new year. I have long and short term goals which I review progress on regularly. Goals are broken down into achievable steps.

Karen - me too! When we go away to a hotel or on the cruises I always specify twin beds so it is easier to toss and turn, get up and down to the loo, and I can read my Kindle. At home I migrate to a different room if I'm restless.. DSIL's spare bedroom is not too bad, but the bed is narrower than ours, which is super king, two beds linked. I'm also an early waker, so find I'm up before the heating has come on. Brrr! Oh well, it's only for one night! She is lovely.
Done my exercise and just have to do my weights.

Just curious ... what time do you go to bed?
If I woke up at 1 am, at most I would have slept for 1 hour.
But if you're going to bed at 6 pm, that would be 7 hours of sleep.
Also, do you drink a caffeinated beverage after about 4 pm?

If it was ready for Christmas, I would have sent it to her for Christmas. If it is ready now, send it to her with a "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year".

My husband and I have gone to twin beds at home and away. We had a super king - two twin beds linked - but we've unlinked them and moved them to the opposite sides of the room. And when we travel we either get a 2-bedroom place to stay or if that's not an option then two beds.
He's very restless since his accident and I wake up if the bed jiggles at all.
We also both snore and find it easier to ignore the snoring when we're at least somewhat separated. He's more disturbed by my snoring that I am with his (because I've got a cocoon of silence that works for me), so I'm hoping that when I get my nose done and septum straightened I'll be quieter for him.

Good morning beautiful ladies 💐💐💐!!!
Debby in Va4 -
It seems many of us are suffering from the post-holiday weight blues! I am up a little in the weight arena, 1.5 pounds, and am slowly getting back on track. I think recording everything I ate was a big help in keeping the weight gain to a minimum.
I am certainly looking forward to the New Year!! I am starting day one with Something Big. Something Big is an annual yoga event. This year over 2,000 are expected to practice together. There will be a live stream to 52 countries and 37 States. https://www.somethingbigyoga.com/
Resolutions – I generally do not make New Year’s resolutions. I make goals throughout the year. Someone mentioned a 20 for 20 list which I thought was a great idea. I am still working on my list and seeing it is December 28th must certainly get that wrapped up. Viv, I do find making a goal and breaking it down in to smaller pieces helps me get it completed. I just read a quick article that also states not to make goals “general”. So instead of writing down I will get rid of the clutter around my home make the goal more specific by writing I will go through the kitchen junk drawer and get rid of all of the things I have not used in the past 6 months.
Gifts – I truly love giving gifts and making someone’s face light up. I give gifts with no expectations. I truly receive joy through the giving.
Sleeping with Partners –I am fortunate to have a second bedroom for times when one or the other is having trouble sleeping and/or is sick or keeping the other up because of snoring. Please note I have not been in the position where sleep is restless due to a partner’s health issues like you Machka. I think you came up with a perfect solution for your situation. And, of course, I have had my bed to myself for almost four years now and will probably have a hard time adjusting, if a partner is in my future. Smokey the Cat does not take up much room and he is my “sound” machine so he is welcome to sleep with me.
Sleeping Away – I always pack my favorite pillow which makes sleep so much easier for me in a strange place. I think it has something to do with the smell from home. I sleep on down pillows (one of my guilty pleasures) so it’s easy for me to squeeze out all of the air and fit it in to even the smallest of bags.
Well, it’s off to the races for me. I have been in the mood for Scottish Eggs so I am planning on making a batch. Not exactly health food because of the sausage, but they are protein packed.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.
