We've heard from both of our kids via text and shared photos on line. Technology has some really great features for families who live far apart. We have West Coast, East Coast and Midwest immediate family members. We share photos, call when we want, and are able to stay in touch. I'd still like my very own Star Trek Transporter but this will do for now.
Technology certain does have some great features.
I communicate with my family via email and facebook, and yesterday my parents and I skyped.
I'm thinking about doing a video walking around our garden and house for my parents as well.
Michele, I post videos to Flickr and then bring them across to here, like this ...

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.
Hubs and I are in NYC again this year for Christmas. We had a great day wandering around Central Park, Bryant Park and seeing the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular.
I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone’s photos and hearing about your day.

Been a very long Christmas day. Grandkids up at 5 for presents-they had a great time. We spent the day playing with their toys, visiting, and eating. Had grilled skirt steak, beans, rice, salsa for Christmas dinner. Food not so bad, but the deserts were definitely an indulgence. Over calories for the day, but enjoyed each one. Will be sensible tomorrow. Hope to take grandkids down to play ground-will get some movement in for me and them. Toe is still a lovely shade of purple, but swelling is going down.
Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday and got to spend time in a way that is meaningful to them.

Hi Gals,
Kids, puppies and kittens! All so cute!!
Rebecca – so glad you are ok! How scary
KJ – you tell a story in a great way, I felt like you were here as I read it.
Rori – great picture, there is a definite family resemblance between you and your brother.
Pip – love the ornament idea for your pups, I have some hair/fur from Curry (my dog before Levi) and did not know what to do with it… but that’s a great idea. BTW you make a great tree!
This has been a different holiday season for me. I spent Christmas eve with a friend, and a friend of hers (3 single gals) My friend is religious and took me to her church (other than funerals and weddings I have not been inside a church building in 30 years) it was very high tech, much technology with screens, microphones, so different from what I remember. We had a great meal of Dungeness Crab, salad and garlic bread. Today a couple of friends from the camp I work at came for breakfast, I made eggs benedict – I had never poached an egg or made hollandaise sauce, it wasn’t bad for a first try. Then I cleaned my garage – still much to do, but the car is packed with donations, the recycling can and the garbage can are full. So I am glad with this start. Dinner tonight is with you all! Some Christmas music, a glass of wine, and butternut ravioli with a mushroom cream sauce and asparagus.
There have been comments about cookies and not making them until the last minute. I make a TON of cookies each year, and do eat a few during the holidays, but really am not tempted and it is because I make them as gifts so in my head it would like buying someone a bottle of wine and then having nothing to give as I had drank it all. This year we made 108 dozen (half for my mom ½ for me) 9 different types; usually we make 180 dozen. I am out of 3 kinds and with the few more trays to do I will be out of all but one kind.
Going to sit on the couch with Levi and the tree tonight as it is back to work tomorrow. Thanks for being my dinner company. I will celebrate with friends over the weekend, and then with my mom over new years.

Heather: From the looks of the folks on the beach and in the water, it appears that you are having Christmas in summertime. People look like they’re having a great time in the water and on the beach.
Karen in VA: I love the photos of your granddaughters. Lovely!
Kim in CA: I’ll bet your friends and family look forward to those Christmas cookies. How do you keep from nibbling bits of dough? Chocolate chip cookie dough is my favorite but I haven’t had any for a very long time. :ohwell:
I had phone conversations with my adult kids today. DS and family were full of happiness. DD seemed a bit down. They are at her mother-in-law’s place. I’ve been there, and it can certainly be discouraging. There always seems to be family drama there. I hope my daughter can get some rest tonight and go to her own home tomorrow.

Our grandson with the parking tower we got him for Christmas. Apparently, it's a hit! We did our big thing on Christmas Eve day, had a lot of fun with the kids, spent today in my chair, totally exhausted! Tomorrow will be a busy day, doing everything that didn't get done today (laundry, vacuuming, bathrooms etc....) Oh well, at least the kitchen is clean! Eating is totally off the rails, going to try and get a handle on it starting tomorrow. Going walking with a friend in the morning, looking forward to that.
Wishing everyone here a Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah or whatever you choose (or not!) to celebrate!

Merry Christmas ladies, sorry I've not been here for most of December, finding it hard to keep up with you.
We had a lovely Christmas Day yesterday, we had mum and grandson over for lunch, it's mums first Christmas without dad and I didn't want her to be on her own. Lunch didn't turn out too bad if I say so myself. It took a bit of organising as I cooked a vegetarian meal for me and grandson as well as the traditional meat meal for mum and son. I cooked the meat the day before and on Christmas morning, put it in the crockpot with some vegetables, then cooked a nut roast and a Quorn roast so everything would be ready on time. (I did two veggie roasts as I know grandson is a bit picky with food and wasn't sure he'd like the nut roast).
I feel I'm getting a cold, my throat is a bit scratchy, so taking it easy today and dosing myself up with Beechams Powders. Dinner is already in the crock pot (left overs from yesterday ) I'll watch a few Christmas movies and be lazy for a change.
Well I'm going back (quite a few pages lol) to catch up with your news.
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
Love to all

Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
Thank you all for the lovely photos! I'm so pleased that so many folks still do so much for the holiday.
For us, it was a lovely, unstressful day. In the end, we did put on real clothes and went to a movie matinee of Knives Out, which I'd been wanting to see and thoroughly enjoyed. Very spur of the moment, as we only watch a movie once every three or four years, so it was a special treat, though I will say that Daniel Craig with an American Southern accent was a little... well, it took a bit to get used to, let's say that. That parking lot was FULL, I couldn't believe how many other folks came out at mid-day on December 25 for a movie. The people sitting next to us were just as baffled as we were as to the reason--at most there are perhaps 50 Jewish families in Fort Smith, so it wasn't purely the Jewish community. My feeling was that most were empty nesters, like us, just enjoying the day.
The rest of the day before and after was talking to the kids over text messages, reading, relaxing, playing computer games, watching a show called "The Fix" on Netflix, which has it's funny moments, and just being together.
Today we might accomplish something and... we might not. I took my Protestant work ethic out back and told it to hush for the next couple weeks. It's pretty ingrained though.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR7 -
Katla - Yes, the weather was wonderful! It was last year too. I'm sure the sea was freezing though! Today is grey and raining with a stiff breeze.
Still got to do my weights, but, after a slow start, we have done our gymming. Phew! I am soooooo stiff! When I have visitors, especially the kids, I must tense up because the next day I am stiff all over.
We are having a quiet day today, basically recovering, because tomorrow we are babysitting the grandchildren all day. The parents are going out for an hour's cycle ride and then catching the train to London to meet 'their' jeweller who is coming in specially to discuss making some new jewellery for my DDIL. If you remember they had all her own and her grandmother's jewellery stolen from their open safe last summer. She was devastated. They thought they might not get the insurance to pay up as there was no break in etc, but my son persisted and they have received the payout. Hence the trip.
We are going over there for the day and I think the pizza restaurant might get a visit!

Hello everyone.
I was a nice day yesterday. Smokey the Cat had a lot of fun and it was great catching up with my dear friend. Dinner was good, but like most I went overboard and found myself up 1.8 pounds! I know this is temporary, but as I sit here more bites, tastes, and gulps come to mind so I must update my intake for yesterday.
Last night I slept over and we ended up talking in to the early hours of the morning. Sleep overs always bring fond memories back to me and I hope I never think I am too old to host or attend one. As usual I was up rather early and was going to stay at my friends and then realized, "oh, no, I have to log in to work and watch out for 911s". TG it has been a somewhat slow week - I will continue to check on things throughout the day.
Heather - Love the pictures. I was thinking it probably would have been a good day to film the "introduction clip" as DH would not need to "fake" joy.
Linda - DD's Red Velvet cookies look wonderful. I probably would not be able to stop at 1. Maybe 3......
Karen - What a beautiful "first" time meet picture of your GDDs.
Dr Katie - Generational pictures are a wonderful look back and such a great thing for the younger generations to have as memories.
Evelyn - What a great smile on your GS's face. Makes it all worth it.
Okie - Enjoy the city. Christmas in NYC is on my bucket list.
Lisa - I am glad you decided to throw the "get things done gal" out the door so you can enjoy the down time. Things can wait - memories cannot.
Katla - I am with you. I cannot stop myself from tasting the cookie process from start to finish.
Kim - Even though I give cookies as gifts I have never been able to think of them as a bottle of wine. I will have to try that next year. I think my rationalization is, heck I can just bake one more batch! I have also found the changes in services have evolved over the years and are dependent upon the church and its parishioners.
Well, I have got to unpack and check upon work emails. I am looking forward to getting back to my normal routine and foods. And, am hopeful 2020 is going to be a great year for all of us.
Hugs to all and prayers to those in need.

Boxing Day ... Dec 26.
While a whole lot of others went shopping for Boxing Day specials ... I got some stuff done including another beach walk.
This is one of the reasons I like the Christmas holiday season. With Christmas Day and Boxing Day and New Years Day and weekends ... it only takes a few days of annual leave to give me 16 days off.

We were at the pizza restaurant soon after it opened yesterday and bought a large veggie pizza with lots of extra veggies and extra sauce. Even with the extra big tip we gave them out of gratitude for their being open Christmas Day, it still cost less than lunch at our favorite restaurant would have cost. We brought it home so we could eat in comfortable, familiar surroundings. We ate half the pizza for lunch and the other half for supper. I was thirsty all night and my weight was up over two pounds because of the sodium, but today I am back to normal eating, dog walking, and line dance class.

Happy Boxing Day! Only 364 Days until Christmas!
First, I loved seeing everyone's photos and reading about your family get-togethers and meals and Christmas Day happenings. Thank you so very, very much for sharing. I feel like you all are my sorority sisters; I've been with this group for 3 years! Hard to believe.
Had a wonderful Christmas present/surprise on Dec. 24th. Remember me saying one of my favorite Christmas songs was "Another Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg? Here's my story:Did my Dec 24th grocery shopping mid-morning, store parking lot was already jammed. Got my stuff, climbed in the car to leave, and parked right next to me was an old friend/past co-worker I hadn't seen in years. One of my favorite, favorite people in the world.
He spotted me too, we got out of our cars and hugged, stood there in the cold and caught up as best we could for about 15 minutes.
Unlike the song, we didn't go looking for a bar or drink a six-pack in the car, lol. And when we finally got in our cars to leave, we didn't wonder "what if", lol. Our friendship was never like that.
But I was thrilled to spend a few minutes with one of the kindest, most positive, happiest fellas I have ever known. He was a confidant and a mentor and got me through some stressful times.
He's now 80 but has the heart and spirit of a 50 year old. He's had his share of tragedy and kids with mental illness and disability. What a inspiration and he still keeps active as he can.
So we had our chat and I got another great hug, we parted and went on our separate ways.
This has to rank with one of the best things that happened this Christmas.
Linda - I would have given just about anything for a spoonful of that mac n cheese, I could smell it from here, lol. And those cookies. Yum!
Thought we were safe from cookies after the small plate from our cleaner a week ago. But on Christmas eve, here comes our neighbor came over with a big platter! We each had one and this morning I bagged up most of them into individual baggies and put them in the freezer. She's a great baker so didn't want to waste them or toss them. I'm not swearing off cookies totally.
OK, am still working my 2020 strategy for getting back on track, especially after 2019 was my "year of pain" and I got derailed in the exercise and eating department.
Make it a fabulous day, dear ones!

Dr. Katie: I love the dress alike photo. It is a keeper and I’d consider framing it if I was you.
Viv: You went above and beyond to provide food for people with differing dietary needs. You deserve a gold
Heather: I’m sorry to know that your DDIL’s jewelry was stolen. I didn't remember. I am happy that she is getting some new jewelry to enjoy. :flowerforyou:
Machka: Enjoy your 16 day vacation!
Barbie: I have either become far more sensitive to salt in the past few years or I’ve finally noticed how it makes me feel. I was always a “saltaholic.” I learned it from my mom. She used to like her palm, pour a bit of salt in it and then lick the salt off. These days, too much salt makes my finger joints hurt. I guess this may be a part of the ages and stages of life changes as we get older. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: How wonderful that you ran into a dear friend and had the chance to talk for a bit. I’d call that an excellent Christmas Gift.
Yesterday we had phone chats with both of our kids, and an unexpected gift of coffee mugs from our neighbors. L & R. The black mug says “Hubby.” The pink one says “Wifey.” They are nice people and although their gift was totally NOT our style, it was thoughtful of them to give it.
This morning there was ice on our deck and frost on the lawn. I was very careful when I let the dog go off the deck for his morning constitutional. I'll go out and clean up after him in a bit.
