That is what I'm hoping for! And perhaps the ability for increased fitness.
Currently I work to breathe especially when I exercise ... it would be delightful to breathe more easily.
M in Oz
I had the same surgery about 6 years ago, and wonder why I hadn't done it before! I breathe through my nose for everything other than high aerobic exercise.
Recovery was fine, just be careful to not spray anything (meds, saline, etc.) toward your septum. As my doctor also said: "Please! Look at your toes when you spray in your nose!"
He was sort of a goof, but the surgery worked perfectly.
Hopes for a great outcome for you.

Pip: I looked up Wahoo Strap because I didn’t have a clue what it was. I hope the company that makes it steps up and gets you one that works properly. You are a dedicated athlete and deserve good training tools. :grumble:
Heather: OOOPS! You are every bit as pretty as the elf.
Allie: Are you drinking caffeinated tea at night? Those 2 am wake-up times seem to happen more often than you might prefer. SleepyTime tea is one of my favorites. Peppermint Tea is another. Both are caffeine free. Black tea or coffee is for morning wake up.
Terri: I’m not here for badges, either. :noway:
Karen in VA: Your biscotti looks fabulous. WTG!!!
Lisa in AR: Your early mornings to yourself are clearly an important part of who you are. 4:15 am is pretty darned early in my world, but I’m thinking it would be a good time to write. :flowerforyou:
SuziQ: Congrats on the little one! You look delighted.
Heather: Your delight in Hove is evident every day. I’m so happy for you and your DH. You’ve found just the right home.
(((Rebecca))): Falling is no fun at all. I know from personal experience how nasty it is. I broke a wrist with each of my two falls on hidden ice. My doctor put me on bone density meds and I’ve been quite happy with them. Nothing has been broken since I started the medicine. I’m a bunch older than you and the bone density med may not be appropriate for you yet. It would be a good idea to check with your doctor, though. Your DH needs a comeuppance. Pip's Boot might do the job. :grumble:
Lanette: I love wood stoves and the quality of the heat they produce. We had a Fisher wood-burning fireplace insert in our previous home. We loved it. DH caught pneumonia back then and sitting near the woodstove with a cast iron teakettle of water on top eased his breathing. The added humidity was a huge help to him. Here, we have a gas fireplace. The chimney system is not robust enough to allow a wood burning stove. We put a humidifier close to our chairs if we have congestion from a cold or flu. The gas fireplace is easy and cheery.
Irish Terri: Your Cinderella Christmas lights are charming.
Machka: Our next-door neighbors are away from home. I wonder if they went to Mexico for longer days and a dose of sun. Have you traveled northward in June or July to find a bit of sunshine? Canada has beautiful long summer evenings. We’ve spent some of them on Vancouver Island. Victoria BC is fabulous. .
KJ: The story about your mom’s passing and your son’s birth is heartwarming. I think it was a gift to you that your mom knew about the pregnancy and your baby boy.
BrownSugar: Your Mac and Cheese looks fabulous!!! Sweet Potato Pie-YUM! We love sweet potatoes but haven’t made them into a pie so far.
DH and I are planning a grocery shopping trip to get things we need. I think early is better than late so I’m going to give him a nudge to get dressed.

"Todo"s and "done"sDid Monday: wrapped Joe’s presents, wrapped Lois’ ornaments, took Tumble to groomer, droped off Lois’ ornaments/thrift store donation, packed and mailed Mariah’s goodies, cruised thru TSC and Big 5 for rain pants, picked up organic produce and liquor at WalMart, gassed up and strolled on beach with friend as part of GF goodie exchange. When I feel better will: bake forgotten cookies, make toffee or holiday nut crunch, make tuna salad, finish minutes, print firehall stuff and drop off. Today will focus on rest and recovery.
Wal~Mart rant:So yesterday I took leave of my senses and stopped at Wal~Mart on the way back from Big 5. Yes, on the day before Christmas Eve. Whatever was I thinking? Was surprised and delighted to find organic romaine, peppers, cauliflower and broccoli and some clean looking snow peas. Was even more surprised and delighted to find the Meyer’s Rum not found at the liquor store, and some Smirnoff caramel vodka at half the price. Less delighted to learn I had to push a button and wait for an associate to unlock the liquor cabinet. Even less so to learn that he would take it to register 6 where I must check out. You guessed it, the longest slowest line, the only checkstand where people can buy cigarettes or liquor, and the grumpiest people in line, including me! Pfaugh! My mood improved with a stroll on the beach with GF friend. Lowest tide we’d ever seen and fullest creek. Was just what my attitude needed. My body not so much. All that running around, standing in line, then out in the brisk beachwind meant I woke in the middle of the night with scratchy throat and cold. Dosing myself with Zicam, Yogi tea/honey and tempting myself to eat whatever appeals (not much). Won’t stress at all today and tomorrow about CI<CO, activity or even try for AF. Put the big beautiful prime rib roast bought for tomorrow into freezer. We’ll have it at New Year’s instead. If I cook anything beyond soup today and tomorrow, it will be leftover ham with rice, snowpeas and kung pao cauliflower. Oh and Mama’s Holiday Nut Balls.
Cheri thank you so much for sharing your lovely Hanukkah display. It looks like what you’d see in a stylish magazine. TJ’s ran out of coins of the world, so my “god daughter”’s kids will have to make do with almond cookies and fudge. OK if I copy your pic and send to her?
Heather WOW in deed! Great day with DH’s daughter AND he’s willing to finally see an MD about his back? And a lovely 5K run? Win-win-WIN! Love Bea’s stockings, is her nickname “Pippi”?
LuciB exciting news you’ll get to care for Iris when Hannah goes back to work. Now if only she’d get here, safely and healthy of course! Oh she’s here, she’s here! Happy baby, happy grandma, happy Holidays!
Pip, Ah, a tree! Of course. Silly me!
Barbie your trenchant observations about self esteem crack me up. Thank you!
Meg hope your new kickboxing gives you a great stress relief as well as the cardio workout. Brava!
Irish Terri lovely tree and miraculous 50+ ?!? year old lights!
Amber, might want to check out some YouTube resistance band videos. Our instructor stresses correct form and alignment over reps and resistance. He knows you have to build up gradually to avoid injury.
Margaret thank you for the timely warning reminders. Sad they’re so needed, especially this time of year.
Pip brand new Wahoo strap not working? FOOEY! What does customer service say/do?
Rebecca please get your wrist checked out. It could be broken and you not know it. As for the chief, shame on him for such a stupid saying. Not supportive, not loving, not what you should expect from your life partner. And yes, I’ve laid on the ground shaken and crying and had to get myself up and even drive myself to the ER. Joe used to have your Chief’s mode of expression, but some of Barbie’s “loving conversations” after the emotions calmed have brought out the better in him. Maybe you could build on, or end by, thanking him for making the trouble call… that shows his love and concern. ((hugs))
allie be very careful going to the store today!
Karen in VA lemon poppyseed biscotti? Yum! Lilliana and kittens? YUMMY!
Lisa the fear of falling has gotten almost debilitating as I age. Hate the fear almost as much as the injury. BB&B is helping me face that fear and do stuff (like walk across the rocks to the beach yesterday) anyway.
SuziQ what a great gift you gave your coworker. Truly in the spirit of the season.
Julie thanks for checking in. As for the weird prickly guy, trust your instincts!
KJ couldn’t stop reading your Christmas story. Gentle tears. Thank you so much for sharing.
BrownSugar your mac’n’cheese looks mouth watering. Humming through wanting to taste? Now that’s a strategy I’ll borrow. Thanks! Wish we had Patti LaBelle sweet potato pies here. Freddie only carries sweet potato pies occasionally, and we snap ‘em up when we see ‘em, but they just lack a certain something…
Katla Joe went into town at 07:00 this morning for a few things. Thought it would be less hellish than the day after Christmas with the sales. He managed ok, hope you and DH do as well.
Well that’s it. Going to take another cup of herb tea (and a rum ball) to bed and snooze. When I wake, I’ll try to change the linens and take a hot shower, always feels better, and maybe make some soup.
Tonight I want to have eggnog, Mama’s two go to Christmas cookies (almond crescents, holiday nut balls), a slice of Colllins Street Bakery fruitcake, and watch for deer. After Christmas services when I was a child, Mama would drive us to the park. We usually saw a herd of deer grazing in the meadow, as if they were Santa’s reindeer on break. Won’t make it to church tonight, but sometimes deer graze in the woods along our driveway. I’ll watch for them and send “Thank You”s to Mama’s star.
Lighter, lovelies!

@1948Peachy I’ve been a Georgia girl since I met my Georgia Sweeting in 2003😂😂😂. But I’ve always loved sweet potato more than pumpkin for sure! Can’t wait to dig into the macaroni dish!!!

Barbara: DH and I just got back from the grocery store and we are stocked up. Adult kids and grandkids' packages are in the mail and there is nothing pressing that needs to be done. Your Walmart is much better and bigger than ours. We have a beginner version with no fresh food. There are loads of packaged and canned goods, though. :ohwell:
Today I ran into an old friend at the grocery store. She looked good and seemed grounded and happy. A number of years ago I started having acrylic fingernails on top of my thin ones. T was was my manicurist/pedicurist for several years. I had acrylic fakes put on my hands and then maintained. I discovered that the acrylic on my fingers caused the natural nails underneath to get thinner and thinner. Quit that and went with decorating my toes. Pedicures were wonderful, but I haven’t had a pedicure in a long while. My friend is now involved in an antique mall and I’ve never seen her so happy.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

Did a non step strength Cardio Sculpt DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Core Secrets DVD
Rebecca – ouch!!! I’m ever so sorry that happened to you. And it’s NOT your punishment. The worst part seems to be that it takes so long now to recover
Karen VA – Lilliana is so adorable, I just want to pinch those cheeks. Reminds me of Athenia. And those kittens!!!!
Thank goodness Jess is helping cook today! She said that she enjoys cooking. The lady whose house we go to for mahjongg on Mondays is coming here with her hubby since they’re not going to FL to see her grandson and another friend who has family problems so would be alone. Jess and Colby will be here and Vince and I. I just don’t want someone to be alone. Then I’ll work on finding out who all is coming the 5th. Need to remind Eileen (who is having trouble getting acclimated to North Carolina) and the lady across the street from us. She said that she didn’t know if her mother wanted to come or not. It’s only across the street, so she might.
Will probably overeat today, but I’m going to try to keep it to overeating good things. Like I had two bowls of cereal for breakfast and some pops (I really wanted to finish these up so that I could make room in the freezer).
Speaking of making room for things in the refrigerator/freezer – why is it that when I’m trying to make room, Vince and/or Jess and/or Colby always fill up that area that I’ve cleaned out? Like I had the whole bottom shelf of the refrigerator dedicated to being used for pans of things that need to go in the oven. So what happened? Jess put her “pickles/cucumbers” on it, Vince put his pizza on it, Colby put his beer on it. Now that shelf is completely full. Well, I guess I’ll let Jess work it out. See, I like to do as much as possible in advance (like have the rolls on a cookie sheet ready to go in the oven). Oh well…..
KJ – happy birthday to Colin. How do you make your crab ragoon? Does it take a long time to make? Can you freeze them and then cook them right before you need them? You put tears in my eyes
Denise texted me a pic of PJ having just cut his first tooth.
Talk about taking leave of your senses. I realized that we only had one stocking stuffer for Colby so I went shopping with Jess. Yes, today. We did get a few things.
Company should be here in about 2 hours.

Mom is cooking a 23lb turkey, and a chocolate cake. Then I get the oven to make pumpkin pie. I have five presents to wrap. So we are almost ready for tomorrow. Now I am finally feeling festive!2

Thank you ladies for saying all the things I needed to hear. I slept well because of the glass of beer, and the muscle relaxer pill. Husband didn't wake me up to go to the gym. He kept the shades closed and I didn't even notice he had gotten up, showered and left. Took my bandaid off and it has scabbed over nicely. I can move my wrist around, so its fine. Today its Christmas Day in Japan. I am one thought away from crying. I miss my Owain. I am putting on my strong face and shall cry later. Had a great text from my middle son. He sent me a video of Athena laughing, kicking with delight at hearing my sons funny laughing! Visually it soothes my heart! 💖. I am blessed. Happy Christmas eve day, and to others in other time zones Merry Christmas day to you! Hugs!

Just watched 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'. I watched it with my mum when it first came over here in 1955. I was 5 or 6 years old. I remembered the barn raising and the girls in their underwear. I thought Russ Tamblyn was amazing! Strange how the story went completely over my head.
A couple of good TV shows to watch tonight and then bed. Early hair wash tomorrow and maybe some rowing. DH is being called for by the family at 10 and they are going to the Peace Angel to watch the Christmas Day swimmers. !!!!!!!!!!! BRRRRR!!!!! I am happy to be left in the kitchen to get on peacefully with the meal which is similar to your Thanksgiving. Lots of dishes to juggle. When they return around 11 I have Christmas jolly music all preset to welcome them in the door.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Happy Hanukkah to our Cheri, Merry Christmas to those on this side of the pond who celebrate, Happy Christmas to those on the other side who do, and happy holidays to all.
Just dropped in to send wishes... my husband's office is now closed for the next six days as well, so we're looking forward to a little time cocooning, and honestly, not much else.
Love y'all,

Well the mouse was stirring in our house last night. DD and I were sitting on the couch when I saw Oskar the cat zip by with a live mouse in his jaws. He headed under the recliner as our old cat JJ followed him and grabbed the mouse when he dropped it. Nessa the dog decided this looked like a great game and started chasing JJ who headed under the dining room table. She dropped the mouse which was staggering around and DD grabbed Nessa just before she grabbed it. I took the dog and DD found a box to put over the mouse but JJ got to it first. DD grabbed her and shook her to make her let go of the mouse then covered it with the box. By then we were in the front entry way so scooted the box and mouse over to the door and I got the dust pan so I could scoop it up and throw it outside. When we lifted the box the mouse was dead so I picked it up by the tail put it in the dust pan and took it out to the yard waste can. The poor thing probably died of a heart attack being chased by all of us. LOL What excitement!
Having chili tonight and then going to Christmas Eve service at church. I am singing with the choir. Margaret, I love Rutter's Candlelight Carol. Enjoy singing.
Rebecca - Sorry you fell but glad no real damage.
The baby pictures are darling.
KJ - Happy Birthday to Colin. He was a special baby.

auntiebk and katla yeah, I'm kinda pissed about that heart rate chest strap not working. I plan on calling their cs to see what they are going to do. I use it 7 days a week so I need that. if it doesn't work at least I have my Apple Watch but it regularly doesn't record the same (not as accurate cuz it's on my wrist, not strapped around my chest)1

Michele The wreath appetizer you made looks delicious and beautiful! I love it!
Betsy I’m so sorry to read about your sister’s diagnosis! Praying for complete recovery for her and peace and comfort for you!
Allie I love your 60th plans! You will have a blast! I wore a tiara for my 60th. Strangers on the street asked about it and I was able to get lots of birthday wishes! I think I will plan something exciting for 65 (in two years).
Rita, Amber, and everyone else with tummy issues TMI about stomach/intestinal troubles:I so relate to what you go through. I have severe IBS and other stomach troubles which paralyze me from doing many activities. Always the concern of diarrhea or vomiting exploding without warning. It has made it much harder to socialize! Cramping to the point of being doubled up on the bed, etc. I haven’t found any diet that helps it. I do take Lactaid when I have dairy and they have a couple of scripts for me when things get bad (Dicyclomine for cramping, Zofran for vomiting, and a gastro cocktail when everything is acting up), but they don’t help enough to allow me to continue normal behavior. Sigh! I often wonder how people manage with these issues. It’s not like you can just wear Depends and sit in the mess. Ugh!
BrownSugar What a great hike with your daughter! So glad you can spend this time together! Congrats on the wonderful workout!
Rebecca Love, love, love the pic of DIL and Athena!!!
Pip I absolutely love the ornament keepsakes of your dear pups!!! What a wonderful idea. I wonder if I can get enough fur from their old collars to make them for my beloved past pups. I think you are too hard on yourself – you have beautiful writing!
Machka The flickering lights wreak havoc on me also. I have had one seizure and couldn’t get through the testing, but no epilepsy. I do get migraines and I also can’t play video games because of it. DH doesn’t understand it. At times I really need darkness and he will come in the room and open all the curtains. It is SO painful and makes me ill. Having a day designated for no blinking lights is a great idea!!
Michele Sorry the party didn’t turn out to have good food choices! Hope Jess arrived safely and that you have a wonderful time!! Have fun with all your upcoming parties!! Wish I could come see your lights! We will get together when the new year is here! I’m excited to meet in person. 😊
SuzyQ Your weight loss over the years is so impressive! Wonderful to see that we don’t have to stop losing just because we are getting older! Congratulations on your success!
KJ Sure hope your cold is better quickly! Hate that fuzzy headed feeling – particularly rough at this time of year with so many extra activities going on!
Katla I so agree with the tortoise and the hare analogy for weight loss. I have been on my “new lifestyle eating” since Jan 8 and have only lost 44 pounds. I would have loved to reach my goal (another 16), but I forget to focus on the positives. I think most all of us have our up and downs on the scales. I am happy you are working at it and I really think that slow and steady wins the race!!
Rita What an incredible job your GS did on his Santa suit! It looks wonderful!!
Heather Hope all has gone well with all the craziness of your visitors! I imagine you are an incredible hostess. You have such a great heart!
Annie So glad your hip is doing better! It’s rough earning those calories for the sweets. I am still adjusting to not having sugar. I want all the cookies, candies, and pies!! Our grocery store makes some pretty good sweets and I shudder every time I walk past the bakery!
Ginny Sorry to see you (probably broke?) your toe. So ouchie! Glad you arrived safely and are having a wonderful time with your grandchildren!!
Katla I’m going to look into the FODMAP diet. I haven’t heard of that one. Would be great to get some relief! I will cheer for your Ducks after I cheer for my Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl. 😊 Hope we both win!
Pip I love your Christmas outfit! And your cookies look so yummy!!
Machka So glad your biopsy was benign!! Very great news! I love the pic of your table! Very inviting!
Teka Glad you have returned (I joined after you left). So sorry to hear your diagnosis. Hope the treatments are not too difficult and that your recovery from the hysterectomy goes smoothly. Congratulations on the adoption! How exciting! Hope you will post pictures for us to see your new family!
Cheri Happy Hanukkah!! I love your shelf decorations and menorah!
Michele Hannah will take off 6 weeks. Don’t know how long care will be desired.
Terri Your tree is beautiful! The lights are so special! So great that they still work.
Rebecca How sad to read of your fall! I’m disappointed in your husband’s reaction and realized it sounded like something my husband might say. Not right! I’m so glad nothing was broken, but you are so right…falling shakes you to your core!
Still catching up...MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE TO ALL!!! Luci in WNC3 -

We had 9 mice in one of the houses we lived in, and the last one just died ... maybe a heart attack when it realised it was the last?

Before my husband's accident, we were travelling to Canada about every other year for 3 weeks or a month or so in June/July. And then on the other years we'd travel to other parts of Australia ... and since we've always lived in southern parts of Australia (especially now!), yes, we travelled north. In 2012 we travelled north to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan as the start of our RTW trip.
Since his accident, we're limited to travelling within Tasmania ... not as nice as going to Canada or Brisbane or Taiwan or something, but the time off does help because I can get outside, or at least see outside, during the day.

This has been a lovely day for me with more than three hours of dog walking divided into three separate walks. Also over three hours riding the exercise bike and watching holiday movies. I'm knitting a hat with snowflakes so the time has been very productive. I've enjoyed reading about everyone's holiday celebrating and preparation.

Michele: You are a generous woman to invite the mahjongg hostess & her husband to have Christmas dinner with you. It is a kind thing that will likely be remembered fondly by her and her DH.
Rebecca: Merry Christmas! You are blessed, indeed.
Heather: Christmas Day Swimmers! I had forgotten about that tradition. I know of other winter swims but I won’t be participating. I do NOT like to be cold and wet at the same time. :noway:
Lisa: Enjoy your time for cocooning with DH.
Sue in WA: Enjoy your singing.
Pip: Let us know how the company responds to your call about the faulty heart rate monitor. It would be nice if they would replace it with one that works. :flowerforyou:
Cheri: Enjoy your kids being home for Hanukkah! I hope you have happy time together.
Luci: I sympathize with your tummy troubles and hope you find a system to manage things so that you feel better. I’ve had problems digesting milk since my senior year in high school due to lactose intolerance. No one in my family knew what to do about it. One of my roommates in college explained the situation to me in a way I could understand. I am grateful to Aisha for helping me. A LOT of time has passed, and I can now buy lactose free milk at the grocery store! I don’t make a habit of drinking the milk although I probably could. I use it in cooking. :flowerforyou:
Allie: I’m glad you had a lovely night. Enjoy your long winter’s nap.
Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all!
