Tracey, so nice to hear from you! I know about husband's and their health/reluctance to seek medical attention. It took a heart attack (at age 56!) for my husband to give some serious thought to his health. And even then he hasn't made many concessions, but it did get him to quit smoking, so that's something!
Liked the health/diet post, about how it's more adopting a healthy lifestyle as opposed to going on a diet. I read somewhere that "going on a diet" implies that you'll be going OFF the diet as well. I really need to wrap my head around that more thoroughly! I am trying to gear myself in that direction. On that note, I must get to bed as I have every intention of getting to the gym in the morning - there are no excuses!! lol
Congrats to those celebrating, hugs for those needing them and welcome to the newbies!

Howdy, folks. Just read through all the pages I had missed. Just a few observations:
Goals:- Working on review of 2019 goals. My primary goal was to achieve a weight of 155lbs. I achieved 147.8lbs. I am currently up a little because I chose to indulge myself over Christmas. This is temporary. I have already discarded some of the overage.
- Updating annual goals for 2020. I have a notebook where I have been doing this now for the past 20 odd years. I also do quarterly/monthly/weekly reviews. My health/fitness goal is to maintain around 150lbs.
- Still formulating/reviewing other goals for 2020.
- Over the last 5 years I have achieved a healthy, fit lifestyle by permanently adopting sensible healthy eating habits, and increasing my activity level.
- My diet hasn't really changed drastically, but the amount I eat has.
- It has taken a while, and I still have to be very mindful. I am a work in progress.
Later, my friends!

Heather Do you drive? I'm sure you are aware that people who need to be in control do far better behind the wheel than in the passenger seat, which makes me wonder why you aren't the main driver of the car. My ex-husband was always very anxious when I drove. I am an excellent driver (so is he). He just needed to be in control. I actually prefer to be the passenger unless the driver is distracted or dangerous. Then I tell them to pull over & let me drive.
Barbara Do you know that at least 3 of us suggested that name for the python before my son asked why everyone was suggesting Monty? I asked him if he'd had a stroke & needed to be taken to the hospital, which made my daughter-in-law laugh uproariously. Finally my grandson, 11 at the time, clued him in & the snake was named.
Tracy Wow, your husband is lucky he stumbled into some medical care. Sounds as if he might have metabolic syndrome & maybe fatty liver? He'll live a lot longer & healthier if he takes all of this stuff seriously. It's probably part of the reason his dental health deteriorated in the first place. (((Hugs)))

Hi ladies
Had a very lazy day yesterday, I just gave in and rested, felt terrible with this darn cold. DS now has it, he has also developed a nasty cough, (he's taken to his bed today) lol, I'm feeling a little better today, but still ache all over.
Tracey, what is it with men not taking care of themselves? All you can do is look after yourself and keep supporting your hubby on his good choices.
Heather I am also a nervous passenger (but I don't drive) I thought it was just me expecting the worst, I worry about other drivers crashing into us, I worry about cars stopping in front of us - as soon as I see a brake light I'm saying slow down. DS and DD get quite cross with me but I can't help it. I wish I could sit back and relax but I can't. It's even worse when it is someone I don't know driving me (I can't tell them to slow down lol) I sit and think I'm going to die - I know very dramatic but it's how I feel.
Lots more I have read and wanted to reply to, but my mind has gone blank.
Think I need a cup of tea, I'm flagging.
Love to all

Thinking randomly about possibly goals for 2020 ...
I am hoping to get into a bit more running in 2020 ... especially if they fix my nose and I can breathe!! I would like to get back into running 5Ks at least ... maybe more ...
https://www.runningcalendar.com.au/
I'm mostly a cyclist, but there are a couple things that appeal about running:
- I can run at lunch. I could cycle them too, but it would take half my lunch break to get ready and get out there what with all the kit and unlocking the bicycle and getting past all the pedestrian and vehicle traffic to where I could ride. With running, it's a quick change into tights, tank top, and running shoes and I'm out the door.
- Running, even just 3 times a week, seems to help keep my weight steady if not dropping slightly. That's in combination with other exercise on the other days too, but adding running seems to be effective.
Machka in Oz
Looking over 2019 goals ...To sum up ...
Half marathon in January ... Done!!
Gradually build up cycling distance ticking off milestone distances along the way. The goal behind this is to build a solid base for further long distances and events in 2020.50 km
75 km
100 km
125 km
160 km (100 miles)
Get back to climbing 20+ flights of stairs at least 4 days each week. I work in a 10-storey building, and can climb 10 flights in the morning, and 10 flights in the afternoon ... plus extras if I want.
Walk (or run or hike ... basically move by foot) more than last year.
These are my walking/running/hiking totals for the past few years ... so ... more than 1357.1 km in 2019 would be good.
2018 - 1357.1 km
2017 - 1302.52 km
2016 - 1133.02 km
2015 - 1131.7 km
And build some upper body & core strength + improving flexibility.
I haven't been able to run since the half marathon.
I am cycling but not building up.
I am climbing stairs but not regularly.
I am walking ... quite a bit of walking. Right now I'm at 764.8 km for 2019 so I just need to walk about 170 km/month to make my goal by the end of the year. Might be a little bit of a stretch, but we'll see.
I am getting some upper body and core with pilates, rowing and some additional exercises.
I'm just starting to run again after nearly a year off.
I am cycling occasionally, but we still haven't done a 50 km ride.
I have been trying to climb more stairs and built up to about 15 flights on occasion.
I'm about 300 km behind last year, but have hit the 1000 km point!
Through a combination of pilates, rowing, and weights, I hope I'm improving the upper body and core strength, and perhaps my flexibility too.

Rebecca - it's time. If you've not already done so, reach out to his command and get their chain in motion. Eight months is far too long. If he didn't want to be embarrassed, he should have reached out long since to let you know he's alive.
Karen VA - and everyone who answered with advice - thank you for that. Not sure I have enough iron self control to handle the snake even once, but you're right that preparing for it and controlling the outcomes is better than the surprise factor, and will, as you noted, take the wind out of the sails of the jokers. Love the name Monty, but they let the 9-year-old name this one (also a ball python), and it's been called Fang. Not helping. We would have been staying in a hotel anyway (my husband really dislikes their dogs), and the rest will kind of fall where it may. Right now, if my daughter's C-section goes off on the scheduled time, we can't go. I've got labs and then a doctor's appointment I've been waiting for for three months. But my husband will try to get the following Friday off, and we'll drive up, see the baby on Friday and drive back Sunday after two nights in a hotel.
My husband's last day of his six days off today, then work a day, off a day for New Year's, work two days and so on. Have so enjoyed some quiet days with him with no pressure to accomplish anything--and then he got antsy yesterday and took down the wall between the spare bedroom and the half-bath. It needed doing, don't get me wrong, but the noise and mess drove me off to the stores--which is OK, I scored some really good deals at Joann's yesterday, and got stuck into an afghan in Girl Scout colors last night.

Have you held or touched a snake?
When I was a practice teacher, the class I was with went to an information session about reptiles and while we were there, the presenter passed around a snake to those who were interested in holding or touching one. I was curious so I held the snake.
In my head, somehow I had the impression that snakes were kind of limp slimy things but they aren't at all!! The skin was like very dry human skin and they are all muscle. I was surprised how heavy and muscular it was! I don't know if it helps at all, but it was similar to a very muscular arm.
Now while I didn't mind holding that snake, I'm very apprehensive about the ones here. I keep my distance!

Ladies, today’s New York Times has an article about Svalbard (where our Penny lives). Sorry I can’t post a link but I’m sure you can search for it, it’s about welcoming in the new year in that part of the world.
Love to all, NYKAREN5 -
Rebecca Did I miss something? Is Athena sick?0

Good morning all! Happy Monday!
Lisa- I was going to suggest the same thing as Karen VA; that you try to hold the snake on your own terms (when you have your mind in the right place). I have overcome a lot of fears (bees, spiders, snakes, etc) by putting on a brave face for my kids/daycare kids to educate them. I also am a former "large snake" owner. I had a boa constrictor while I lived in Mexico. I kept him loose in my apartment. I did buy mice for him, but he ate a LOT of the gekkos and other lizards that would find their way in. His name was Kaa. I have no problem with constrictors, anacondas, or pythons; it is the very small snakes that give me the heebee jeebees. It takes far more bravery for me to hold a garter snake than a constrictor. I find it laughable that you are staying in a hotel because your hubby doesn't like the dogs. (dogs outweigh snakes with the "hell no" factor?!)
Rebecca- HOLY CATS! April? Definitely contact the ombudsman. I am sure not even the military would think leaving your family hanging for that long is acceptable!
Tracey- Oh my! What a season you have been having! I agree with Heather's assessment of your body pain; stress does this to me also. I don't think I am feeling the stress, but I must hold my body differently and then one day, I just wake up and feel like I have been hit by a car. I am glad your hubby is getting help with his medical issues, and I hope he begins to see the benefit of taking care of himself. I know you, as soon as the holidays calm down, you will be able to get back into the swing of taking care of you! How nice that your kids stepped up and took care of the holiday dinner!
Carol- Your granddaughter is just gorgeous! And YES! What a bargain on the dress! I don't think I ever bought new clothes for my kids as they were growing. A lot of second hand shopping, because money was tight and they grew so fast!
Heather-Tim used to do all of the driving for us. I was okay with that, even though he is a very Type A driver (aggressive). However, since his RA problems (2015), I am the driver. I like that MUCH better! lol We have a rule that the driver gets control of the music. Get me on a highway with my favorite music playing and I can drive for a good 10-12 hour stretch! I have never driven for more than 12 hours without stopping for the night.
Cheri- Hope your Hanukkah was a blessed one! Your display is beautiful!
Allie- Machu Picchu?! If you can afford the adventure; you should definitely go!
Since I have had a week off, I have been able to exercise when I want. It has been wonderful taking walks when the sun comes up! I am going to miss that! My cold has abated enough so that I have been able to get back to my five mile walks. I am walking a little slower, due to feeling winded quicker (I think this is mostly lingering congestion). I also got on my new-to-me elliptical a couple of days ago. lol I am only able to go about five minutes without stopping! I forgot what a strenuous, all over work out they are! Here is the specs on the one I have: https://www.schwinnfitness.com/schwinn-ellipticals I have the Schwinn 470. Ah well, five minutes is a good start.
A have just a couple more things to knock off my to-do list (yea!). My plan is to get them done today and have the last couple of days of vacation to do what I want. Signing off for today! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)8 -

Thanks Lisa. I was there in the summer so had endless sunshine.
I'm in the car right now approaching Heathrow. Lots of traffic so not too fast.
Speak later.

Lisa: Thanks for the link. What a wonderful article. Great to get a feel for Penny's home turf.
Back from my walk, and had lunch with DH who had gone back to his yoga class, for the first time since he had his problem with his knee. He's very upbeat about the whole thing, now that he's almost back to normal.
Have a leisurely afternoon planned. May watch a couple of Christmas movies.3 -
Lisa, Thanks for the link. What a great adventure. It reminded me of what Penny says, "There is no bad weather, just bad clothing."2

Ellie Sounds like a rough diet for your cough, but so glad it is helping!
Terri Nice shot of your grandchildren! They look like a good group of kids!
Pip So sweet…the Golden pic from the past!
Carol Hope the doggy can do well with the surgery if they decide on it! I imagine it is tough to afford it. I know they have insurance for pets, but I have never carried it. I often worry what we would do if the boys needed it. It’s expensive enough just paying for all the normal vet bills, monthly pills, and all the food and treats!
Okie So glad you and DH had a great time in NYC! What an interesting city it is!
Katla Glad to hear the kid’s new house is nice and sorry to hear about DD’s husband. What a shame; especially on a holiday!
Heather Sounds like an exhausting day with the grandchildren. They are so blessed to have you! Those memories with involved family are very special!
Rebecca I can’t imagine how tough it is going without hearing from your son. I know we can go a month without hearing at times and I will get very sad and lonely, but my DH has gone many years without any word from his boys. Their mother poisoned them toward their Dad, so they no longer will return any word (and I no longer try to reach out to them as I never really knew them well).
Michele Looking forward to seeing the video!! Oh Wow!! Your yard is amazing! How fun for all those passing by!
Applesandoranges Sorry you are going through a stressful patch! Here’s a list of some self-soothing ideas: (I know you are already doing some.)
Viv I hope your cold gets better very soon so you can visit your sister. I’m sure you are anxious to get together with her. Joining you in prayer that the chemo will be effective! I’m going to watch the YouTube you mentioned because I want to make some goals for the new year that are attainable. Quarterly sounds wise. Always good to revisit progress along the way!
SuziQ Something Big looks wonderful! What a great way to start the new year!
Karen Praying sweet Olive is feeling better very soon! Poor Baby!
Dawn So glad the cancers are contained! Your children are adorable!
Annie You Go Girl!!
Rebecca Athena and Daddy are so sweet giggling! I look forward to that with my son! FaceTiming with our older grands is wonderful! They are so sweet in their jammies on Christmas morning! We were given the Facebook Portal by our son to see each other between visits. It’s so nice!
Amber What a lovely bracelet from your daughter!! Gifts like that are so nice…like having a hug around your wrist all year round!
Margaret What a shock about your friend’s accident! I would love to have a watch that alerted the authorities! After my accident – We were fortunate that one of the boys in the car was still conscious, had a cellphone, and called his parents. Apparently, we had all types of help quickly, but I wasn’t conscious for any of it. (They flew me by chopper.)
So much to be done around my house. Hope I can make a dent today. Off to a bit of a rough start losing my cool with DH this morning as I am trying to set up a budget so we quit finding ourselves in trouble. Our brains work differently, and it’s hard for me to explain where he thinks we have extra money and I know we are spending more than we bring in. Ugh!
I’m only behind a few pages today…on p78
Hope everyone has a good Monday!! Beautiful day here in NC…55 and sunny so far! Luci in WNC

Vince misread Jess’ itinerary. Her flight GETS INTO Maine at around noon so it leaves Charlotte at 9:10 which means we need to leave around 7:30. So no exercise for me today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Denise Austin’s Boot Camp DVD.
Barbara – we have 15 totes of extension cords. Do you know that Vince went and bought 7 more cords? After we finished putting up the decorations there was one 40 footer left and two 50 footers left. I say we’re going to need at least one more tote but Vince says we won’t. He can be the one to stuff them into the ones we have.
Tracey – I’m so sorry to read that your husband is having so many problems. There are people who feel “ignorance is bliss”. How nice that your youngest and hubby pitched in and did all the cooking for Christmas. I don’t know what I’d do without Jess helping me with Christmas dinner
I think the trigger finger is back on my right thumb. This time it’ll be surgery if I’m right about the trigger finger.
Well, Jess is at the airport. Her flight is delayed. I know she’s concerned about the fact that they’re having a snowstorm right now in Portland (Maine)
Lisa – thanks so much for the link. How interesting. I didn’t realize that no one is allowed to be born there. I do miss Penny, tho, and hope she’s well
Allie – you can wave to Jess. Her plane is over CT right now.
Carol – don’t you wish our pets were on our health insurance and that we can declare them as dependents on our income taxes?

Athena is just fine. Its another cutie on here thats under the weather 😟🙏.
Yes today I shall reach out to the ombudsmen and put in an official health and welfare check. The ship will most likely not do it until after the New Year, but at least it will be in the beginning stages.👍
Well up a lb from yesterday. That's kinda frustrating! If course I had a turkey sandwich for lunch and then one again for dinner. It was wheat bread but maybe too much! I even sliced some cranberry jelly really thin and tucked that in. I showed my son and he made a face and shivered. Haahaa! Not often I can gross him out!
Well my back is so sore from leaning over cutting that darn strings of lights from the tree! But it got done, and now the tree is perfect. Awaiting next year.💖
Today I plan on just walking on the treadmill at the gym. My left hand is still kinda sore, and the idea of lifting weights is a no go.
My new habit of not eating breakfast, and having my first meal at 1 pm, is going along nicely. I don't wake up hungry, have no headaches. 👍
Today is a good day, for a good day!
💖Rebecca

Yesterday I fainted. Most likely from dehydration, so there's a cure for that. But now I have stopped exercising until my headache is gone. I went to the ER, which is going to cost me, and they want me to see my doctor for generic follow-up. I don't think they can tell me anything that's worth the money. I had an EKG, and I know I don't have heart problems or diabetes. So I am resisting the follow up visit. I hate doctors especially ones that can only tell me what I already know, that I fainted and need to drink more water.5

Going nonstop. Monster cane attacked the church yesterday threatening 2 y yelling at the pastor that because his neighbors go there own guns in Texas (they own a gun range for safety courses ) that Gods not in the church!! He was drunk he says he wasn’t but he smelled like it from afar even left a door for hour in the building. Got a small video of it so restraining orders in place for the church. His poor neighbors are still fighting for him to stop doing these things. He yelled about how service animals 🦮 🐕🦺 shouldn’t be allowed to other dribble even putting down military in a military church. Was a nut 🥜. I’d post the video but our luck he’d come in with a gun shoot like he promised to do to his neighbors. They got 40 texts of threats that night before he matched his way into a church made a scene. Unstable individual.
Here’s hoping it’s more relaxing the rest of her trip. Daughter took everyone in our family 2 shaken up 80 yr olds out to eat her treat after.I raised her right very proud .They had a blast telling us the history of the town .
