As a former bartender, I 'm aware that many folks go to that venue mainly to chat up gals, hang out with their co-workers\friends, not necessarily to get drunk, or even a "buzz". I had many regular customers who in order to prolong their time on the stool would ask me in advance [sometimes on a permanent basis] to serve them their "special" beverage. Rum & Coke with just a drop of rum in order to make it smell "boozy"...and many variations on that...Whatever got them through the night. And got them home to their spouses with a minimum of conflict. Of course I got hugely better tips from the drunken sots, but I felt better with the knowledge that some of my "bar buddies" would preserve their marriages, and not maim or kill innocent others on the way home.
#1 reason why I almost NEVER have a drink outside of my home.9 -
Ahem...I have discussed this with Catpuccino, and we have decided that since his lap-sit time is very limited, he will not be available for appearances outside his home. For access to a drink therapy cat , it is strongly suggested that a visit to your local animal shelter is in order.
@MissMay , two bags of basement junk/trash are ready for this week's pickup...SSOOO many more to go...keep poking the bear...

Oh, and Sunday Sushi wine was short and sweet. 9 0z pinot grigio with two flats of sushi. Been many many weeks since Sunday Sushi.
The next three days are allotted to homemade veggie soup. No known wines plotted as compatible to homemade veggie soup.4 -

I used to only drink on odd occassions, then it became weekends then add in a couple of evenings during the week and now its almost everyday! sometimes its just the odd glass of wine or beer or vodka,,, other times a lot more .
I know its my biggest weakness and is piling on the lbs. I need to learn to say no. Just because my partner is drinking does not mean I have too.
I'm going to start with AF work nights (sun-thurs) so only allowing Friday and Saturdays then gradually drop down to one night a week maybe less!
I have done it before so I know i can do it!

@shorepine in reference to your "Does anyone else have a spouse who drinks a lot? " I am raising and waving my hand high. Mine drinks beer all day long and then if we go out, he hits the heavy stuff during happy hour(because to him it is cheaper.. But my thought is it would be cheaper to buy an entire bottle and take home. Than to have 10 drinks out at HH in one week at $6.00 a pop...$60.00)
He also can see no problem with daily, habit and non concious drinking. Which means he will not drink any less. It was very difficult at first for me (like 3 years ago) to not want to be his drinking buddy constantly. He would push the idea hard to have another drink or to loosen up with a drink. That is exactly how I got into the mess I did of being a daily and in my mind a HEAVY drinker. Not proud nor bragging. Only glad I got out of that box to improve MY own life, even if my better half refuses to.
I could be writing this today! I don't blame my partner its my choice to drink however he does push me to have a drink saying I am boring or miserable if I don't.
I have tried convincing him to cut down but he won't.
I really hoping to cut down considerably this year for my health and to help with my weight loss.8 -

5th Day in, 1st weekend...on Sun. went to lunch at new Mex restaurant been dying to to try, had all intentions of sticking with AF, but did have one Margarita. When asked I wanted 2nd...said no and stuck to AF rest of day.
Feeling successful since on Friday I had great career news from my boss and normally would have broke out the champagne but did not..and Sat. just stressful..dealing with aging parent issues...chose to keep AF all day...all very good for me...I live in small city close to alot of restaurants breweries etc that we have short walk to...certainly raises the barrier of deciding how many should I have.. so the one Margarita on Sunday although I was not planning on it ..will let it go and not going to let set me back on long term goal of cutting weekday wine habit.7 -

Following again. Not sure I'm going to do a dry January but definitely cutting back significantly. Nothing since NYE and so far feeling good. I miss this group
Had a bit of a craving last Friday, but it subsided. On Saturday, hubby wanted wine, and I was already running errands so I told him I would grab him a bottle. Happy to report that's all I got - no crafty crafts or liquor for me. Picked up some AF craft beer which satisfied a minor craving that night.
I'm not worried about this week with the exception of Friday when I get together with a group of friends who all love beer. Since I haven't committed to a dry January, I'm sure I will partake but limit it to two. I have a very serious goal of losing 20 lbs this year, and not only do the extra calories from drinking not help, how I feel the next day often leads to a) skipping the gym, b) eating garbage or c) both.
As always, I welcome any advice!8 -
I am back for the month and Happy New Year to All! I took a break from a lot of things over the last two weeks, but sadly, it wasn't all alcohol. I didn't overdo it, but I had a glass at least just about every single day. I took my family on a mini-vacation on the 1st to Hocking Hills, Ohio, to regroup and start 2020 off right. It was fun hiking and spending time together, though I realized just how hard it is for me to relax! But I cleaned before we left, so aside from taking down the Christmas decorations, I have a more organized house and the stress hasn't been as high the last few days. I find when I don't have a drink in the evening, I am very "ON." While being a little sharper and on top of things is a good thing, it quickly carries over to irritation when my family cannot read my mind. Walking every day to try to clear those critical tendencies out of me.
I am done with the same ole' resolutions, so my goal this year is to "simply do better" and publish my book. Broad and specific, both achievable.
For this group's purpose, my goal for January is no alcohol S-Th, with limited to 1-2 on Fri and Sat. I am very busy during the week, and typically as long as it isn't in the house, it is easier (in theory) to abstain.9 -
It is a little comforting to know I'm not alone in having a spouse that drinks heavily and has no desire to stop.
I am in my early 40s with two young children so avoiding alcohol isn't so hard as it would have been 10-15 years ago. My social life only affords me a handful of drinking-centered opportunities a month these days. So my main peer influence for daily drinking is my husband.
As I mentioned earlier he just drinks beer, and he kind of constantly has a beer in his hand starting in the afternoon on weekends and the beer is pretty quick to get opened after work. It's hard to really complain too much about it though, because he's "just" beer and he's never really drunk, and he's kind of a happy go-lucky guy all the time and beer does not seem to affect him much. Probably because I can't see what he would be like without it, since that has never happened. He is also naturally lean and has a physical job so the calories from it aren't really a concern.
He is however, staring at turning 40 this year and he does have a few health issues cropping up that would probably benefit from cutting back on the beer. Still, he seems to have no interest in that which is kind of tough for me to understand.
So far in January I've had ZERO drinking days, and I even went the whole weekend without opening a bottle of wine. We even had a board game night together on Saturday and I barely even thought about it. That feels good!
And, get this, last night I noticed my husband wasn't drinking beer, he was drinking sparkling water all night. What?!!? Maybe I am rubbing off on him a little. Note to self: do not nag, just be a good example.11 -

To the ladies with drinking significant others, mine is also quite a drinker. He has an Instagram account set up only for the reason of following whiskey/bourbon people. He watches videos. He's like a "whiskey connoisseur." I am not bragging as I find it not a reason to brag, but we have thousands of dollars in whiskeys and bourbons. He's got bottles that cost hundreds of dollars. Why, I don't know since he just seems to hold on to the expensive ones. He drinks most days of the week, although, he says he's going to try and lay off for a couple of weeks. We shall see...9

Goal :: limit to 4 days in January
January 01 - drank quite a bit on 1 Jan - wine and beer.
January 02 - AF
January 03 - AF :: Fridays are challenging. Proud to skip. Compensated with overeating. Need to find better alternatives. Fridays are most tempting days for me to drink.
January 04 - AF :: Saturdays are easier than Fridays
January 05 - Drank :: (2-3 units) and quickly followed up with food. tarying to limit frinking to 1 day a week with strong max limits. Enagaged my husband to do the same.

Every now and then I like to remind us of what a standard drink (US regulation) looks and is written as. Only because I have been around folks at the taveren that are pounding down sevaral 22 ounce tall craft beers @ 8% alcohol and claiming they have ONLY had a couple beers. When in fact they have had more than double that. Then they wonder why they are getting arrested for DWI.
So here it is: REMEMBER - different countries standards may be different than this chart. 😎

FIRST MONDAY OF 2020 ~
One tiny goal for today for me.

I’m new to my fitness pal and have been horrified by how many calories I consume through alcohol. On 1st January I though I was finishing up the last bit of Christmas Baileys and thought it wouldn’t be too much but on measuring it I discovered it was 9 measures and over 1000 calories! I normally drink wine 4 nights a week and probably have about two thirds of a bottle as share with husband but he usually changes to beer as I see it’s getting low! I am concerned about my drinking as I really miss it/ look forward to it and can’t see myself giving up completely. However I do need to cut back and I’m aiming for 3 nights only with only half the bottle as my first step. Alcohol just makes me get the nibbles too then I tuck into the cheese and crisps. No wonder I’m now 5 stone heavier than when I was younger. Living MyFitnessPal as it’s really showing me where I’m going wrong.13

I'm in. I started Jan 2. I've done this before and it's been very helpful to remind myself that I can do something when I put my mind to it. Also to remind myself that sometimes when I have a beer or a drink it's more out of habit than something that I'm really taking the time to enjoy. I found the same appreciation when I have given up sweets at times. It's nice to enjoy the things that should be enjoyed and I think this helps me appreciate them more. Seems like I'm rambling so I'll stop there.13

I would like to get in on this!! I'd really like to change my 1-4 drinks/night into ONLY a Friday and Saturday thing.... I've gotten into the habit of having a couple drinks a night to relax..... and it's really unnessecary and leads to extra snacking and sometimes extra drinking. It's just not healthy all around. I could use some accountability with this! My goal is to be out of the habit of "work/school night drinking" by the end of February Wish me luck!
