One glass at dinner last night, and I couldn’t finish it. I do not enjoy that moment when I go from feeling normal to a little tipsy. It’s weird, I used to like that moment! Another good thing about cutting back.9

AF since December 31st. Last week-end I didn't think that I would complete the month, but no so close to the end, motivation is high to have a cold turkey January. Impact on mental clarity & memory is obvious. Too bad I didn't see the same impact physically (weight).11

1 beer last night, but nothing on my flight this morning. I don't know what it's like where you all live, but in the UK it's really common for people to drink in the airport even before very early flights when they're heading off on holiday. And then drink all the way there too. I always drew the line at 7am beer (although plenty this morning didn't) but it's a 5 hour flight and it often gets to wine o clock before we land. But no alcohol on the flight today for me. That's not to say I won't have some later, but it still counts as cutting down!10

Good going!
Is it Spain you are going to this time?
I enjoy hearing about your travels.4 -
Yes, Spain. My dad lives here so we come out a couple of times each winter to get some sun while it's cold and dark at home!5
-
@Zircher Yes, less alcohol does = running faster and I need all the help I can get. I'm slow 😬!
@shorepine Thank you!

I haven't been looking forward to this day for a couple of weeks now but I made it! We went to TWO surprise birthday parties today, one was at a local brewery with a lot of my friends who I like to enjoy a beer or two with on occasion. The first one - at the brewery wasn't too difficult - I ordered a soda water with lime and just enjoyed the food and time with my friends. The second one was tougher - I would have appreciated a drink to just loosen up because I don't really enjoy small talk and/or big groups. I powered through it with a cappuccino and a pb cookie.
Glad to be home and planning my boot camp class for tomorrow morning. 8 more days!
Keep fighting the good fight, MF Pals!11 -

January 9 - AF
January 10 - AF
January 11 - AF - This one was harder than the others as I was with friends who were drinking wine while I helped one move!
January 12 - AF
January 13 - AF
January 14 - AF - I really wanted one after my exam because I feel TERRIBLE about it...but I stayed away and said that I can always re-sit for the exam in August if I need to
January 15 - AF
January 16 - AF
January 17 - AF - While sitting at home on a Friday is boring, I'm loving what abstaining is doing to my wallet AND waistline. Since I've stopped drinking, I am losing steadily and am loving it!
January 18 - AF
January 19 - AF
January 20 - AF
January 21 - AF - This is much easier than I thought it would be and I honestly don't think I've even had soda in over a week and I was a daily soda drinker too.

January 23 - AF
January 24- AF
January 25 - Today is my last scheduled AF day as I'm headed to a concert tomorrow. I also got some news about some family drama this morning but it's hard to help when you are on the other side of the world. At least the 4 people who matter in this family are in consensus! Will not drink about this today but I may have one extra tomorrow at the concert5 -
6:28 am in Vegas another 24 💖 hope everyone has a great day!4

I made a personal goal of an almost AF January and I feel so good to be keeping it. Had a dinner party last night for 8 of us and there was lots of good wine (my old fav). Had a sip of two reds from my sweetie's glass and felt happier drinking my water. At the end of the night I felt especially good knowing I still had energy and would feel great in the morning. For me, the AF is largely about how I feel more energetic with no/little alcohol in my life. Life is so good!6

As usual, I am going to try for 16-20 AF days for the month.
I just made it to 16 for December.
Wednesday January 01 - 3 drinks
Thursday January 02 - 3 drinks
Friday January 03 - AF
Saturday January 04 - AF - Had to delay and delay and delay today, really wanted to have drinks...but I didn't.
Sunday January 05 - 3 drinks
Monday January 06 - AF
Tuesday January 07 - 3 drinks. Although I have skipped some Tuesdays in the past, it is my designated drink day. I felt off the rails today and know that I need to make some changes with jobs, because the Tuesdays are increasingly just too much for me. Tough to find another job at 59, but the stress is ridiculous. That first sip of alcohol was nicely numbing. I know intellectually that it is not the best way to decompress, but it certainly is surefire and quick.
Wednesday January 08 - AF
Thursday January 09 - 3 drinks - worked early morning until 8pm today, started thinking by 7pm of having a drink when I got home after a grueling day...and I did. I sure am not racking up many AF days this month so far! I know that I won't get rid of that 5 pound gain over the holidays (which took me 7 months to lose!) unless I stop the alcohol. Work in progress.
Friday January 10 - AF. Planned wine tomorrow evening with a friend.
Saturday January 11 - Wine and Brandy. The conversation flowed so easily as those of you who have imbibed in alcohol know how that goes. I was pretty good about having a water in between each drink, that made me feel as if I was "drinking less". Ready to get serious about racking up some AF days soon.
Sunday January 12 - AF
Monday January 13 - AF
Tuesday January 14 - 3 drinks. Pretty much 1 for 1. Going to try to do a little better. No regrets for having drinks tonight. I am never going to be an abstainer, but definitely want to drink less.
Wednesday January 15 - AF - halfway to the lower end of my goal for the month.
Thursday January 16 - 3 drinks - wanted the 4th, but knew that it would make me throw up, so didn't. I want to get back to trying to get 2 AF days in a row each time in between.
Friday January 17 - AF
Saturday January 18 - AF - It was touch and go there for a couple of hours, I really felt like having a couple of drinks. I am sure that I will be happy about it in the morning that I managed to resist.
Sunday January 19 - 3 drinks. Definitely will be AF tomorrow, Tuesdays are usually a very busy day for me.
Monday January 20 - AF
Tuesday January 21 - AF - Very busy day tomorrow working out of town. No booze today!
Wednesday January 22 - 3 drinks. Helluva long day. I realize that I reward myself with drinks for working ridiculously long, or the opposite, having a good relaxing day. Thinking about that.
Thursday January 23 - AF. Dinner and the Ballet tomorrow night where we usually have wine. We'll see, really trying to get back to 2 AF days in a row between drinks days.
Friday January 24 - AF - The Ballet was great, "Anne of Green Gables", a Canadian Classic Story set in PEI re-imagined as a Ballet. Usually my girlfriends and I have drinks with dinner and wine at the Ballet, but nobody did since everyone was driving, so it was very easy to be AF tonight.
Saturday January 25 - 3 drinks
Running tally: 14AF days out of 25 days so far.5 -

Ugh drank way too much last night and was hung over all day. Two glasses of wine and a big cognac. Disappointed in myself because even though I had only 11/26 AF days, I was able to easily only have one glass of wine when I did choose to drink. (I was out a lot this month!)
Well, back in the saddle! A setback isn’t going to derail me.12 -

I've had no alcohol this month! No alcohol till Feb 2!13

Good luck to all !! Maters' of your destiny!8

Happy Monday to all -
I made it through my get-a-away weekend just fine. I was even happier to have that "someone" in our crowd, keep within their drinking boundaries and stay awake through the concert. Even though they wanted to pub crawl to many places in this new city experience, they kept it to one at each bar and even asked for water on the side.
I must be rubbing off on people without even talking to them about about drinking less. 😎10 -
