@snaileatsplants I would try (stationary bike) cycling. Doing it on a regular bike might not be great, as you'd be shocked how much that broken toe will affect your balance! But it's low impact cardio, and you don't have to run on that toe.6

My NSV: My resting heart rate is between 51 and 53, down from a high of 68 before I started losing weight.9

Thanks for all the responses and tips I have received from my first post!! I appreciate all of them! It also addressed an area I hadn't thought about before. Many times when I start a new diet or try to do a lifestyle change, I try to do too much too fast. I need to do one thing and make it a habit, then add another till I get to where i want to be!10

So, I think I solved the mystery of why I was so starving last week and gained 2 lbs with Friday's weigh in. I just started that lovely time of the month today - almost a week early. So that would explain everything!
I went to the dermatologist this morning. Both of my parents have had melanoma so I need to get annual skin exams. I had a spot removed from my belly button of all places. That combined with the bloating and cramps associated with this time of the month is making me pretty sore tonight.7 -

@speyerj, yes, I am trying to keep a positive attitude. It's easy for me to beat myself up, but I made it to kickboxing today and had a great workout. Wow, what a difference in the HR. That's great.
@aliciap0116, thank you! I am feeling a bit better, I was being too hard on myself. I also do think I need to increase my protein. I am thinking of incorporating more nuts into my diet as snacks so I can get a little more protein that way. Also, my eyes do that as well, I wear glasses so I think it covers It up a bit. Hope you have a great week, too!
@sharpdust, I hope you get to feeling better soon. It is a weird feeling to mourn someone we don't know, but that is also the impact that person had on the world and you. Please let us know if there is a way we can support you, and take care of yourself, too.
@Aerohead21, you can do this! Eating a little more is worth feeling better and slowing down the weight loss. You'll get there.
@pamiede, sounds like you have a plan set up so you can meet your next goal! One day at a time. Also great NSV's!
@CupcakeCrusoe, great job sticking to your goals even though you were away. I also agree that it is important to be happy while you're losing weight! That is a fantastic mile time, I hope to get there one day.
@Emilyestelle1, that is a fantastic NSV, our clothes can really show a difference even when the scale isn't.
@snaileatsplants, hope the toe gets better soon! I second possibly a stationary bike?
@lizalus, that is exactly what I did, baby steps with adding things in so I didn't overwhelm myself.
@Tarzan37, Glad you figured it out! Hopefully some of the pain passes soon.
As for my NSV, I was able to increase in resistance bands in some of the workouts at my kickboxing class! I definitely felt the soreness after class, but I was so proud of myself for doing it.

So man posts, it's hard to keep up!
Found a scale and jumped on. *ouch*
Current weight is 240. Which is still 40lbs down from my start weight, but also 40lbs up from my best weight. Right in the middle. Hit the treadmill on Saturday and did day 1 of C25K. I'm telling myself that if I shovel the driveway and sidewalk, I won't have to run today! Compromise, right? That and there's a hecken lot of snow on our driveway right now. Logged everything but dinner, because I honestly forgot. Hard to get back into the logging mindset, but I'll get there. On nightshift for another two weeks, then it's six months of days.8 -

@Tarzan37 thank you. It's not a term I've come across before.
In that case, I have been measuring myself each week, and although I didn't have a weight loss on the scale I did have a measurement change. I'd lost 1cm (about 1/3") off both my waist and hips this last week. Not a major thing, but a little change. In all I've lost 5cm (about 2") off my waist and 2.5cm (about and inch) off my hips in the last 3 weeks. I'd like to get my waist back down to 30", I have about 6" to go.9 -
I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow's official weigh in. I'm pretty close to having lose 1 stone (14 pounds) in the past 4 weeks, it's happened so much faster than I expected, I was hoping for 7 pounds. I've been under my calories every day, I've stayed away from sugary crapola, no binges, no alcohol and 10,000 steps most days. I've seen the benefit of upping my protein and I'm so positive at the moment and feel like I'm starting to enjoy life again. I read this thread every day along with anything new on the Success Stories and it's keeping me so motivated.

My recent NSVs: I needed a black dress, and I needed/wanted a black wool coat anyway because the one I have is a size 22W and very big on me.
I went out on Sunday and I found a wonderful long, single-breasted black wool coat, exactly as I pictured it. It was a size 14. I tried it on and it fit so beautifully and knew I needed to have it. Then I wanted to cry, because it was $340! Luckily, on a 50% off sale and with an additional 25% off coupon, I got it for $140! Still expensive, but I love it! And it's a size 14! And it looks good on me!
I wasn't about to go and buy a new black dress when I have at least 3 in my closet. The one that was most funeral appropriate was one I hadn't worn in about 3 years - as a matter of fact, it was still in the dry-cleaning bag from when I picked it up a few years ago. Calvin Klein, size 14, in a forgiving material. I thought it would fit, but I thought it might stretch more than I wanted it to. Well, it fit very well, no major amounts of stretching!
I packed a back-up outfit of pants and sweater as well, but so happy I was able to wear this outfit!14 -
Hi there guys! This thread is booming! It's really hard to keep up. For everyone doing the individual replies, more power to you. I can't keep up with everything In order to reply to everyone I have to keep going back and forth to see who posted what and with a slow computer it gets to be too much.
Anyway, just wanted to check in (long post sorry!) and say how wonderful to see everyone doing well and staying positive! It is so helpful to have this thread to go to when I am feeling down. I am having some issues at home and I have had to talk myself through some moments of weakness and this thread helps!
I have been doing good with water and calories, but exercise has been non existent other than a walk or two. I am not beating myself up about it. Food and psychological changes are my first priority right now. I am going to continue to try and include it when I can. Have been looking for a cheap treadmill or something to buy for my house. @torihudson6 you continue to inspire me with your dedication to your kickboxing...maybe I will look into that!
@aliciap0116 thanks for the water retention post because my trip added poundage and I am sure it was all water because it has already came off for the most part.
I have been doing good this week with food as I prepped several hours on Sunday. Preparation is keep for me to stick to my food plan. Having healthy snacks at the ready stops me from binging on something that I shouldn't.
@bluffgirl67 kudos to you for sticking to prep and exercise even with flare ups and migraines, you're an inspiration.
For those that have talked about calorie intake and struggling with hunger and eating "bad" things. I am with most of the replies in that in order for a health lifestyle change to happen, it must be sustainable. It probably is the number 1 reason diets fail is that you can only do it for so long if you are not enjoying it. My weight loss has been very slow...November and December I ate at maintenance calories because I knew it wasn't sustainable for ME to not enjoy those times. But there were also people who WANTED to continue their plan through the holiday season, but that was their choice, although different from mine! I was able to still create healthy habits in that I did not overeat and gain weight...I just enjoyed and ate "mindfully" as to not go overboard.
Right now MFP has me set for 1700 calories to lose 1.5 pounds a week and it is sustainable for me right now. As I lose weight that will go down. I choose to add in things I like to eat to fit within those calories. Do I do it everyday no, because I choose not to. Keyword is "I" chose not to. Are these foods bad? Of course not, I really don't think there are "bad" foods...but I have chosen to eliminate food with preservatives, fast food etc, because it effects me in away that I don't care for. It leads me to overeat etc. Now it could be different for you or the other person. But I have rice everyday, I eat pasta and I eat potatoes, I eat red meat and bread oh my! I found fresh Italian bread that have slices that are smaller than a slice of regular bread that is only 40 calories...I fit that in sometimes when I want a sandwich. I love potato chips...so I make my own sometimes. And I will eat red meat sometimes when I see I have some extra calories to work with. Like @bluffgirl67 I have some dark chocolate available for sweets...I also make what I call a chocolate sundae that I make a smoothie, but thick almost like ice cream, and put a couple dabs of whipped cream and a portioned out amount of dark chocolate chips and no calorie caramel syrup. But again, I don't do it every day, but sometimes I do. It just means I might not lose as much but I am still making healthy decisions and will get to my goal eventually!
I really started logging in August of last year and it has helped me identify my areas of opportunity. Have I lost a tremendous amount of weight since then, no...but I also took off November and December lol (my choice) but I have lost weight...about 4 lbs a month excluding the holiday months. In 2020 I want to get it to about 6lbs a month...and supposedly 1700 calories a day will get me there. I may have to tweak it a bit but it is definitely enough food for me to be satisfied and it is SUSTAINABLE for me!
Sorry to go on and on, but I have wanted to reply and just never have time to really sit down and do so!
@mmdeveau thank you for the link to Corrine Crabtree's podcast. I had listened to her before but went back to it after seeing your post and she makes sense and a lot of what she says resonates with me!
Oh and my NSV is having people notice I am losing weight and my clothes fitting better. Nothing like putting on a pair of jeans that used to be tight and uncomfortable and having them button and feel great!8 -
I'm waiting for the size 18 jeans to arrive from Amazon so I can see how far I am from the next size down. I don't think I'm there yet, but as we all know, there's a difference between the not there yet that can't get them over one's behind and the not there yet that can't quite zip them up. (grin)5

I've become very impatient about my weight loss. Not because of the goal so much though I obviously really want it.
But more because I want to go clothes shopping so badly, and refuse to buy clothes that'll be too small in a couple months. I'm finally just XL again which means I should be able to buy clothes at the mall.
Also all my nice clothes are hilariously huge on me. Just. I look like I'm drowning in them. There's no saving it. You can get away with oversized t-shirts but not really oversized blouses.
I want to wear cute things! *throws tiny childish tantrum*
I'm gonna start saving up soon for an epic shopping spree at goal weight. Husband will be forced to come with me and take pictures of me posing with dozens of bags. :<13 -
Terytha, I feel ya. I'm immensely curious as to what lower weights are going to translate to in terms of clothing for me, and there's no way to hurry that up. Grr!5

Funny story, I have two pairs of Lucky jeans, size 18W. Too big now and I need to cinch them up with a belt. I've been holding on to them until I could fit into my old size 16 Lucky's (the brand fits my bum well) and wondering why I can't after a month of trying. Turns out the 16 is a regular size (33 waist) compared to the 18W (41 waist, 50 hip). Glad I finally figured this out!! I just ordered a 14W (37 waist, 46 hip). It may take a while to get into the new one but I am protesting also buying the 16W. P.S. I don't know what people do in between 14W and 16 because it is not on their size chart.
As soon as I can go down to another size I am getting rid of EVERYTHING that is too big. I am not ever going back up to this size again (and I really do mean it this time). Thankfully I kept a lot from the ride up the scale so I have some things to choose from on the way down and only have to make minimal investments (I guess I avoided wearing jeans there for a spell). I also don't want to spend until I am happy with where I am.
Message me if anyone wants the 18W jeans (one is Emma bootcut and the other is Hayden boot cut). I would be so happy to ship them to one of you rather than give them to Goodwill. Have several sweaters, tops, and work pants I can include too, depending on your climate.8 -
Ok y'all I had a huge post just for the yesterday and today replies and just closed my window. Ughhh! So I'm just gonna congratulate all the losses. Love seeing all the NSV's plus boosts to personal confidence and strength. Then hit the highlights my old brain remembers.
@torihudson6 You are killing those kickboxing classes. It makes me smile to see those logging in my feed. Keep getting after it.
@speyerj Great advice on going slow and making things a habit. We all may want this to be a fast easy journey but realistically that probably isn't going to happen.
@aliciap0116 I hope you knee heals up soon and you can be back to normal. I got two bags of chocolates at Costco but am set for the year. Yes, I checked exp date and it is next Jan lol.
@mmccloy12 Sorry you are going through some issues right now. Taking time to do the meal prep will help lessen the stress of dealing with food for sure. You are so right about finding what works for each of us individually. Averaging 4lbs lost a month is fantastic!! The choices you are making are definitely working. That's why I love this thread. We all have the same goal but our on different roads to get there. Even so we can learn from each and incorporate things that work for own own personal style.
@theleadmare Thanks for all food and organization ideas you put out. I've been needing those. Excited to hear how your new jeans fit.
@mmdeveau I'm sorry for your loss. Finding a great deal on a coat like that is awesome. It may cost a bit more up front but will last for years. What a cool thing to put on a dress you haven't worn in years and it fit beautifully. I have a brown wool coat I hope to fit into next winter because yeah I know it happening this one.
@Aerohead21 Can you use of the smaller insulated bags with a cold pack to bring yogurt, cheese, boiled egg, etc. That along with some nuts and bars may help. Finding a way that works with your new schedule may take time but I know you will work it out.
My current NSV is being able to put my arms flat by my side without having a big ol hump of side boob holding them out from my body.

@Terytha If you can take $10-$20 to a good thrift store and find some new cute things. I already have my plan to hit up my local shop when I can fit into 14's again.
Forgot I had this thought in my now gone bye bye thread so tossing it out since I'm not sure who I had tagged for the reply.
One of the things that helps me the most is continuing to eat what I like. That helps me not feel like I'm on the dreaded "d" word but am making a lifestyle change by learning portion control. I have added a few new foods like swapping zoodles for pasta. I tried it, liked, and stuck with it. If I hadn't of liked it then I would have continued with smaller portions of regular pasta.

Actually on the note of clothes... I've been donating them to the diabetes foundation as I size out of them. BUT.
I have two costume corsets.
They are very pretty, one in gold and one in blue, and were handmade, but don't really fit now. They're also not really something you would donate normally since they're fun not function.
Should I maybe try sell them or something? Free to a good home? Lol.6 -
@Terytha I would definitely see if you could try to sell them. A good plus-size corset is very hard to find.
Hi everyone, I have a thing to confess today: I ate velveeta. I don't even like it. I ate it because it was the only thing around to eat, and shark week has to be coming up with the way I feel like a black hole. So oops.
Tomorrow's another chance to do this better. Note to self: pack some plain air popped popcorn or something...9 -
@aliciap0116 I have four pair of Lucky Brand jeans size 22W! I know this may sound crazy but...I am going to have all four pair altered to my size once I reach my goal weight. I'm going to remove all the labels like the size and type of the jeans. When the seamstress alters them, I'm gonna ask her to sew the labels back in. I never want to forget what size I was and I don't wanna get ride of my expensive Lucky Brand jeans.3

Yeah, so the jeans came and I tried them on. Will they stop halfway up my thighs? Not go all the way over my hips? Pull up but never fasten? Fasten and zip only if I lie down?
I tried them on.
They fit. No lying down to zip them up. No jump up and down to put them on. Just pull up, button, zip.
Color me surprised, stunned, amazed, and deliriously happy. I didn't expect this sort of result so soon, especially with the scale stubbornly not moving. Apparently I've been heavily recomping. (I should expect this when shoving 50-80 pounds around with my lower half every morning.)
Non scale victory, indeed. I haven't worn an 18 since I WAS 18.13 -
@BrownSugar174: I looked online and was delighted to see this particular cut of jean goes down into straight sizes. It is hard to find jeans that accommodate muscular calves, thick thighs, and junk in the trunk.4

So my husband asked me if I was taking diet pills last night. Bless him, he was concerned, and not entirely convinced that I lost those 20 pounds the old fashioned way. I don't think I'll call that an NSV but it made me smile. I have a Non Scale Goal though. I do leather working when I have the time. When I reach my goal size I'm going to make myself a very pretty belt with only one hole in it so there's no room for growth. A reminder to myself not to be silly and undo all my hard work.8
