WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2020

We have had a warm winter and the daffodils and hyacinths in our front garden are beautiful. Most bushes are showing green shoots. Unfortunately the awful storms have kept most of us indoors a lot and only today has it been sunny for long enough to appreciate that spring is really here. I walked up to the supermarket today for the first time in ages. My thoughts are with those who have been flooded out of their homes.
My worst vice is procrastination. I have been the same all my life. I still have a school report with "Heather should not procrastinate so much " in the summary. Today I am procrastinating by reading a book about how to conquer it. I am much, much better than I used to be, but could still do with improvement. My writing is the main thing that gets procrastinated upon. So far the book is well written and may be helpful.
Tonight is tandoori chicken with roasted cauliflower and raita. Yum!

Barbara-Happy birthday. Well we are in March already, that's 1/4 of the year. Am currently walking every day possible as I entered the St. Patrick's 5k/1k walk/run on the 14th. First time ever so I'm only going for the 1k. Can never run again as I have compression fractures of my spine so walking is ok with me. Well, 15 lbs. off and 35 to go. That puts me at 140. I weighed 120 until the late 80's. Next week is daylight savings time too. Hope everyone has a great week. Take care.

Hello, My name is Pat and I am 76 years old, retired RN (not so much lately, husband has Parkinson's) and am determined that I outlive him so I can take care of him. I am a weaver who spins wool. I crochet, knit, tat, sew, all sorts of hand crafts that let me also be close by all day. That restricts me pretty much to the house and yard but I am also a bird-watcher and that helps a lot. I won't bore you with drudgery and I am happy to find a group that can be supportive and caring. Pat, near Chattanooga, Tennessee at the foot of Lookout Mountain.12

March goals-
1. I joined the UAC that some of you ladies have been talking about. Hopefully it will help me with more regular logging of my meals and getting my workouts in. Being accountable to just myself wasn't working.
2. Make doctor's appointments - one for my yearly physical and one to try to find out what's up with my knee.
3. I need to be better about meal planning/prepping. It's so much easier to make dinner after a stressful day at work if I already have it planned out and ready to go.
If I can make those 3 things work this month, I'll be a happy camper .

Hubby restocked us up with what we need a nice 2weeks worth. In Italy some schools are closed for a week or more due to Coronovirus. Let’s hope this closing town nonsense stops soon.

I need to cook more special meals for myself. The Silcilian shrimp, roasted heirloom red potatoes and sauteed zucchini were delicious.

Today is faily quiet so far. I've been to the grocery store, and I've been reading books. Currently I am between books. I use Library to Go for much of my reading but they seem to be having a technical problem at the moment, so I may go and choose a book off of my own shelf.
Have a great day!

Hi everyone! It's been months since I popped on, but it's the 1st of March and I have a bit of time so thought I'd say hello and try to keep up again. I hope all of you are doing well!
Thanks for the new thread Barbie!
Happy 70th birthday, Barbara! I turn 60 this month and I agree...60 doesn't seem so old anymore either.
I've been really lax in meeting healthy goals lately. Basically letting life get in the way and not taking the time I need to look out for my own self-care. Life gets in the way and, well, you know how it goes!

Barbara Happy birthday wishes to you! Hope you are enjoying the day.
Barbie thanks for leading us to March
Heather my DH is an avid Liverpool fan—quite happy this year!
My word for the year is mindful so a mindful march is on my goal list for this long and busy month:
-journal for positive outcomes, note reflections on ways to improve and how many decisions I make in a single day and how that makes a difference in my life and the lives I touch.
—hand therapy exercises 3xs per day and stretching and treadmill
—meal prep for healthy choices even on busy long days

SuziQ Thanks for CDC link and update on your work restructuring, which must be a mercenary process. Not like the gleaning, which is the polar opposite. You lead an interesting life. And…that meal looks scrumptious. There is a thread called "What do your meals look like (show me pictures)…." - you should post there.
Pip Glad your bruise is gone and hope your tummy is better now.
Green Bay Tracie Nice to hear from you!
Beth I use Nature Made, but I haven't done extensive research on the best brands.
Betsy Good to have the legal stuff in your rearview mirror.
Kelly Ahhhh!!! Thanks. Those 3 month pics are so similar! Miguel is a little rounder and his eyebrows are a little darker. Love the way they both rub their hair & other hand near their mouths when they sleep. So vulnerable and sweet.
Pat, near Chattanooga, Tennessee at the foot of Lookout Mountain Welcome! We are supportive & caring, for sure, and are actually interested in your boring drudge, so feel free to share anything.
Katla Quiet reading day sounds wonderful to me. Add some hot tea and I'd be in heaven.
Barbara 70th Birthday! Woooooooottt!!!

Did a walking DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a downloadable spinning workout.
Barbara – happy birthday. Remember when we used to think that when someone turned 40 they had one foot in the grave?????
Yippee, yippee, a week from today we turn the clocks ahead. I love that.
Marianne – I know you’ll do fantastic on your walk/run
Welcome everyone new (yes, I’m looking at you Pat)
Welcome Back Packerfan!
Joined to UAC challenge mainly to get ideas for different types of exercise. We shall see how it goes
Went to play Mexican train with one lady here. Unfortunately, another lady was there and the only game she wanted to play was canasta so in order to have everyone play we wound up playing (yet again) canasta. I don’t mind cards, just not that being the only thing.
Michele who hopes it warms up enough for them to open the pool tomorrow. I WILL NOT go back home white

I am feeling much better! I might need to buy some constipation meds! Tmi I know! But I have been juicing it, and sipping on the chicken stock I made today, so feeling much better. My innards are sore though!
I made bean with ham soup with half of my chicken stock. I am just having the broth.
Thank you Barbie, for being our fearless leader, and starting us out on the right foot each month! I just love ya!
March Goals
- To drink my 5 bottles of water a day!
- To exercise at gym Mon-Thurs like a badass.😁
- To start organizing my photo boxes for each son. 1 down 2 to go.
- To make every meal a snack, and every snack a meal. So in other words just to satiate my hunger but not over feed it.
- Keep my sugar and carbs intake low, but my protein and fats high.

Taxes are done and found out I will be receiving a refund. Yay! We didn't sell everything but quite a few items at the 4H tack sale so we will be getting a check from them. They keep 18% to support the Snohomish county 4H horse projects, so a win-win. Had a prospective tenant for our little cabin but she has decided not. Disappointed but something will come up. We have had a lot of branches come down in the wind recently. Yesterday it hailed here 3 times.
Barbie - Thanks for keeping us going. I so enjoy checking in with all these ladies.
Barbara - Happy, happy birthday!
Beth - My doctor in Sioux Falls recommended SlowMag when I was dieting and getting leg cramps while exercising. Worked for me.
KJ - Love those pics!
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -
The rain is back so my weeding adventures in the back yard will have to wait a few days. Jake came out while I was weeding and cut the grass. This morning he helped me vacuum. Now he is happily playing his computer game with tanks that shoot at each other. He wears good headphones so I could watch the big TV without headphones and it didn't disturb him. I made chicken in peanut/coconut sauce in the slow cooker and will put it in jars to freeze until we want to eat it. I freeze it in jars that are the right size for two servings (one for Jake and one for me) so there is no overeating and no leftovers.
Taxes are done and a copy of the return was sent by encrypted email for me to proofread. In a few days we'll get the paper to sign to authorize submission and the bill so we can pay the accountant. We have been smart about withholding so we'll get some money back.

Checking in. Down with a fever and some coughing. Been taking it easy since Friday. My husband in his infinite wisdom decided we need our ducts cleaned out. I’m sure we do, but not looking forward to what that’s going to stir up tomorrow. I may have to leave, but I don’t want to spread my germs.7

Happy birthday Barbara! I agree, the age we get to doesn't seem as old as it once did!
Fairly lazy weekend. Got basics done, Taxes filed, laundry, ironing, meal prep. Everything ready for tomorrow.
Found out a staff member (who is several years younger than me) is in hospital with heart attack. They were going to do a heart cath-haven't heard results yet. And another staff member in same department is in hospital with pneumonia (she also has copd). She is 70 and an old 70 if you know what I mean, And third member, same department, just diagnosed with copd and waiting some lung scan results.
Going to work on going in tomorrow with a good attitude. Spent some time this weekend thinking about what I want to do for me. Check out some real estate near kids in AZ. Some of the 55+ communities look appealing. Will continue finishing up house projects here. Luckily, get a tax refund this year (they had not changed my withholding status to single, and even though I paid extra towards taxes, had to pay last year). Left the higher withdrawal level with my single status and it all worked in my favor this year! Can use that to easily pay for the next couple of projects and not have to touch any savings, so that is good.
And--I did some scratch off lottery tickets and got a $500.00 winner! That is the most I have ever hit on those things. Every month or so I buy a few and then if I hit a small amount, use that to get more tickets the next month. I will NOT be giving all of the $500 back to the lottery! May use it for daybed I have been wanting to get for smaller bedroom.
Off to bed. Hope everyone has a good start to their week.

When they clean the ducts they have vacuums that clean them out so you should not have that much dust. If it is done right you should notice less dust. We had it done twice at son's. The first guy used brushes I learned later considering the state of his ducts this was not the best approach. When we got the new furnace they cleaned them close to the source of the furnace and he said you could tell the previous owner had a pet there was still lots of junk in the vents.
I did learn for the health of your furnace you want you ducts in good shape and the cheaper filters are actually better. I did find the cheaper filters don't filter the dust as well, so now I use a 600-1000 filter. I also learned it is best not to close off any ducts. It is hard on the ducts and furnace if you close ducts off.5 -
Pat30725 - Hello! I am also a weaver, spinner, tatter, crocheter, sewer, etc. etc. etc. Nice to know others who share the same interests.5
