Barbiecat - this is a nice thread, so thank you for starting it!
I walked one of the dogs for a good while today and then worked out in the yard, doing some planting in a new flowerbed. Working in the yard accrued almost as much in the way of calorie expenditure as the walk did, so that was an unexpectedly good thing. I'm all fired up to continue in the yard tomorrow. Had a lot of work done in the fall (house painting, installation of a privacy fence), and I'm excited to improve my back yard this spring via new beds, new grass, etc. I keep reminding myself that just like weight loss, yard improvement is best done slow and steady, lol.

Sue in WA: You’re way ahead of us on taxes. DH does them and then takes things to an accountant here in town. We’re happy with this situation.

We had a facetime call from our son this evening. He and DGS were having a grand time in the bath and we were enjoying the fun. Then his wife noticed water in the kitchen ceiling down stairs. I appears they will need to have some plumbing work done. :ohwell:
We tried a new way of breading chicken today. DH is on a restricted diet—no wheat. Ordinary bread crumbs are not okay for him, so we crushed up some rice crackers and used them for breading our fried chicken. The flavor and texture were great! We’ll be doing this again! :bigsmile:

Fitness Goals -- Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Working up to running 5 km at least a couple times a month. Working up to cycling 50 km at least once a month.
** I was hoping to run a 5K in Feb, but that didn't happen. I have, however, joined a "Run Strong" program to learn to run with better technique. And I'm climbing a multitude of stairs. Hoping to get another 500 in March. I've also got one or two cycling events to organise this month. **

I have another "Run Strong" session early this evening. Looking forward to it!
Our instructor gave us some homework last week:
1) Try some of the exercises we did in the "Run Strong" session. I've done a bit of that.
2) Do Bridging and build up to Single-Leg Bridging, making sure to engage the glutes. I can do both because I've been working on them in my pilates class for months now.
3) Do Planks. Start with 15 seconds and build up to 30 seconds. I'd never done a plank before so last Tuesday when I went to my pilates class, I asked my instructor if she could show me how to do a plank. I started with about 8 seconds and have built up to 20 seconds. So it is still a work in progress.
I've also been doing some upper body weights and additional core work.
In the coming week, I'm going to have to give lunges a go. I used to do them years ago, but got out of the habit.

This was one of the snowiest Februarys ever in my area. It snowed about 22 out of 29 days. And, guess what? It's snowing again tonight. It's beautiful, but 'nuf already. Spring please come soon.
Happy to report that DH worked out in the condo gym with me four times this week. So proud of him for trying a new activity. Tomorrow will be his first time visiting the Vets Club, and I'm walking a fine line between trying to prepare him, while not getting him over anxious. The plan is to start with a short visit over lunch and one afternoon activity, then if he likes it, we will try to increase the time for him to stay at the center. The director told me that if we can get him to attend 5x, he is likely to want to become a daily participant. So, that's the goal.
DB's workplace laid off him and several other contractors late last week. He was only there 4 weeks and really liked the job. This is the second time in a row internal issues caused major renovation projects (he was PM supporting IT upgrades) to be interrupted. He feels like a dark cloud is following him. Not surprised he has been down with flu symptoms this weekend. 😷

Someone asked about my nickname, I think it may have been Barbara who asked. It's taken me some time to remember why I was called Karen-a-wee-wee. Karen-a-wee-wee was my older sister's endearment for me because my middle name was Marie. I guess "a-wee-wee" was "Marie" in sister-talk. My older brother sometimes called me Carrom because of a board game we played. My mother called me "Dolly". In elementary school, a few mean boys called me "horse" and pretended it was because I owned & rode horses. Idiots.I matured early at 10 or 11, and was much taller and more developed than other girls my age. The others caught up with me by the time we were 14 or 15, but going through puberty early (for that era) was a humiliating experience.

Karen - Thank you for all your beautiful photographs. They touch my heart. Such stories they tell. I feel I could sit right down and write a story about each of them.
SuziQ - Delicious! I find that the nicer and more special the food I eat, the less I need to binge or "treat" myself with junk. I feel so happy that I've had something lovely that I have no urge to stuff myself.
Our last night tandoori chicken thighs with roasted cauliflower was heavenly and very low in calories. I made a raita to go with it and chopped up a couple of fresh tomatoes. Afterwards we had fresh mango. And 1 oz of dark chocolate. A feast beyond compare! I had AF pink wine.
KJ - You must be aching to see those adorable boys.
I'm sorry you are not getting more me time. Can you find a day at the weekend just to get out of the house and do something fun for you? You definitely 'deserve ' it.
Rori - Sending good vibes for the day care. It might take a bit of perseverance. Sorry about your snow. We feel the same about our record rain in February, though the wind was also awful and never stopped.
Might get the blood test results today, or maybe tomorrow. They just said 3 working days. I hope DH will ring up if we don't hear by tomorrow.
We are picking up Bea from nursery today and taking her back to their house to see the others. Nice.

Karen - Penny lives in Svarlbard most of the year. In the summer she lives near Tromso. Both, but particularly Svarlbard, are a long way from where I will be half way up the coast of Norway. Tromso is on the top of the mainland and Svarlbard is in the mass of islands directly to the north. It looks closer and bigger on this flat map than it looks on a globe, where it is definitely right up by the North Pole.
I'm feeling that it is likely our trip will not take place at all. If I were Saga I would be very worried.

Brisk 1.8 km walk after work to the park.
Our instructor put us through our paces!! The focus of this Run Strong class was to get our feet up ... we were leaping over low hurdles and all. One of the better ones for me was to run as though the ground was very hot ... lots of high, short steps.
But it was tiring! My legs aren't used to running with short, high steps. My tendency has been to run with longer, low steps which is less efficient and actually puts a bit of a braking effect on my legs.
This week's homework is to continue with the planks and bridging, to add some lunges and to work on the high steps any chance I get.

Karen in Va -brother’s procedure went well. They biopsied two tumors. Will get results Wednesday. Mr. Logan is doing well with cast. He is a typically toddler and doesn’t let much of anything slow him down!
Heather-I would think a cruise might get cancelled right now with the corona virus.
Rori-hope husband’s visit goes well.
Machka-planks and bridges definitely provide a work out.
Slept well last night-off to get ready to start another week. End today with gym so I will just focus on that if thinks start bothering me today. The good news it is warmer today (50s). Bad news is--rain all day!

Well, I rang Saga just now to check on the situation. There is information on their website about the many precautions they are taking, but I am getting increasingly nervous about the worst case scenario of one person testing positive on the ship and all 700 of us being confined to our cabins for 14 days. Unlike previous years we do not have a suite, just a cabin with no balcony. There is talk over here of large gatherings and festivals being cancelled, so I am beginning to think that cruises might be next on the list.
I had a chat with a woman and asked about the situation if we wanted to reschedule our booking. They call it 'amend'. I feared that it was too late, but it turns out that we can amend up to 14 days before the sailing, for another cruise of the same, or more value, as long as it departs before Jan 31st 2021. All excursions would be refunded. That is a load off my mind as it gives us a couple of weeks to reassess the situation and see how things develop with the spread of the virus. I don't think my fears are irrational. I don't fear the virus myself, but I do fear quarantine for two weeks in a small space.
Of course, we are still waiting on DH's blood test results anyway.
So, I'm feeling a bit better as we still have some time.

I slept rotten last night, because I stuffed myself with junk yesterday because I am nervous
its going to feel weird going into work today, but ill just knuckle down and do my work..
I am going to try and collect after I leave, dont know if it will work or not, but he threatened us with sending us home if schedules were not full and if the breakdown of of benefits with deductibles and co pay were not correct ,he would be dock whatever wasn't correct from our pay.. both illegal.. and if I tell them that and there is a hearing with both of us on the phone, I am sure he will lie and say that isnt true.. look at his track record.. fired 2 managers,a hygienest quit, Mary who has been there 25 yrs ,found another job and I am leaving after almost 14 yrs. that says something about his practice doesn't it?5 -

Ginny I hope you enjoyed some of the sunshine yesterday.
This weekend was awesome! Could I have gotten more done.....always....but was still a great weekend. Ran a few errands with Husband on Saturday, then spent some time listing stuff on eBay for him. Was a quiet evening. Sunday we finally made it back to church. Between having grandkids, being out of town, me being sick, husband having back issues, it has been a few months. It was wonderful! Small enough congregation that we were missed. 🙂 Came home and listed more stuffs on eBay. He then went with me on a walk! We went to a local park with blacktop walking trail. It was fun. We need to do that more. Ran a few more errands. I got a new pillow for my bench outside. Looking forward to sitting out there! Picked up house, cleaned up kitchen, changed sheets, sorted laundry, vacuumed house. Husband helped me vacuum our comforter. Lots of dog hair! I was surprised as she isn't allowed on bed, but shows how the hair floats.
February goals- I am going to say overall I get a C. I logged daily, I watched eating choices. I saved and gave. I kept paperwork up to date. I generally hit water goal 90%. Ended month 2 lbs lighter!
March- continue with eating well, logging, and water. Concentrate on spiritual, exercise, and cleaning.

If he actually docked money from your check, you would have a claim for the labor board, but not unemployment I don't think. Quitting because something might happen is normally not grounds for unemployment, but you can certainly file. All they can do is tell you no, you don't qualify. In TX, when you file they will send a notice to your employer who has a set amount of time to reply and contest if they feel you shouldn't get it. Then they get the reasons why from the employer and if they have enough information from that, they make their determination. If not, it will go to another round of paperwork or in some cases a phone call. Like I said, the worst that happens is they say no, you don't qualify. Nothing to lose except the small amount of time it takes to file.

My goal for February was to lose weight, but I was 1.5 pounds higher at the end than at the beginning.
I did, however, get myself onto the elliptical 20 out of the 29 days, which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
My goals for March - be lighter going out than I was going in, work the elliptical up to 30 minutes (I'm up to 25 this week) and start ratcheting up elevation and resistance slowly.
I think I mentioned I taught myself to weave over the Christmas break... finished it in January, and finally got it framed this weekend. It's a riff on someone else's design, but all the work is mine...

Good Morning Everyone! How about that...I was able to make it through all the pages this morning!
Goal for March 2020: To remember to have balance in all things including food intake. I really would like to drop 4 pounds from my frame.
Heather: Sorry about your cruise worries. Hoping it all works out. I worry about going anywhere there are a lot of people now. We seem to be isolating ourselves because of being afraid. If its not fear of a mass shooting, it's a contagion or bomb threat. What is the world coming to?

A couple good things are developing from this coronavirus situation.
1) Increased emphasis on hygiene and cleanliness.
2) Increased emphasis on personal space with limited physical contact.
I'm delighted with those developments! The university has already started cleaning the place ... really cleaning not just a quick vacuum once in a while. And I hope the metro will do the same.
Winter flus here have been getting worse and worse. Maybe cleaning and letting us maintain personal space will help!

Heather U.K.- rescheduling sounds smart since they quarantine you to the ship for God knows how long then a Airforce base in your country another few weeks on top of that . Waiting at least by then maybe they’ll stop quarantine on ships it would be no quarantine or a few weeks at home or base only. So far their not learning that staying in ship is a bad idea.
Heard our City (San Antonio Tx 🏥) let a guy go he returned by ambulance 🚑 infected).When asked where did you go? “Everywhere!” He has cabin fever from the long quarantine well went site seeing to ate out etc. so our area is now thousands possibly infected walking around everyone unknowingly.So our city is doomed to be the next huge numbers.

Good news is everyone from hour away shops in our town y goes to our hospital 🏥 (Their towns don’t have their needs) .So my Dads town that’s here a lot could bring it back to them too. Allie, One of my happiness commandments is "Come from a place of love". Nothing can be gained by spending your time at work angry and resentful. You owe it to the clients at your work to be the kindest person you can be.
Heather, my line dance friend and her husband are considering cancelling their cruise in April. They have until March 15 to make their decision.
Lisa, your weaving is awesome. All the knitting I do is someone else's pattern but I claim credit for my hard work and so should you.
Barbara, when Jake asks me what I want for my birthday, I tell him I want nothing and the day turns out great. I'm glad you and Joe found something to do for your birthday that you could both agree to.

bethe, hello to another weaver, etc. It's good to keep the crafts alive for the next generations. And it was so delightful to see hugs on my post of introduction. I am in the process of weaving on my Kromski Rigid Heddle loom, making dish towels. Nothing worse than a naked loom! Finished crocheting a possum for my daughter-in-law--she loves possums. Mostly, I read a lot and my favorite book right now is "No Saints in Here" by Susan Toth (it is about being a caregiver. My husband is 81, with Parkinson's so that's my real job these days). Working on losing about 60 lbs. Had old-fashioned oats with chopped apple, dried cranberries and black walnuts for breakfast. It lasts a long time for me. Sorry for rambling--

Katla I agree with everyone on the alcohol, however, I enjoy a drink occasionally. I feel deprived often enough that I get upset at having to stop everything! A glass of wine or a beer to relax feels good to me. My Dr. and I wish they would legalize marijuana here. I could really use the pain relief and anxiety reduction! I hope I am not cutting years off my life with occasional drinks (I mostly worry about its effect on the brain), but I also think it is when we over-indulge with anything that we find the real problems.
Rori The violence from Alzheimer’s was probably the hardest part for me while watching my father’s decline. My petite French neighbor ended up as his roommate at one point and my father slugged him. I was horrified! During his lifetime, I don’t think he had ever been in a fight with another man (he liked hitting my Momma and us kids, but no outside fighting). I really feel for you and all the struggles that caregivers go through! I also used to work with profoundly mentally disabled, and we would often have to deal with combative behaviors. Unfortunately, the allowed response did not protect the caregiver, only the patient.

Heather Prayers that DH is not Dx’d with anything serious. Just read that the RBC is off…hope it is not a difficult fix. There are so many things that can cause that.
Terri I’m with Ginny. Don’t think I’d like surgery without anesthetic and just breathing. I know it is doable…just not by me!!
Karen Hard to be a musician with wrist trouble!! I’ve had two left shoulder surgeries which played havoc on holding my violin!
