I officially hit the 10 pounds lost mark today and instead of feeling excited about it I feel really discouraged.
How in the world did I let it get this? I’ve lost these same pounds before.
There is really no visual change.
There is still so far to go.

I know what you're saying. I haven't lost the same pounds before, but I also look at myself and see that I have so far to go yet. I've lost 12 pounds but, as you say, no visual change yet. It sure can be discouraging. My sole motivation to keep going is that, if I don't, I'm going to look like this forever. I just CAN'T look like this forever and I sure as heck don't want to feel like this forever.
Do you have an old picture of yourself that you really like how you look in? Post in on your mirror and tell yourself every day that that's what you're working toward. We can do this. YOU can do this. Hang in there and be kind to yourself. If a friend had lost that ten pounds and was discouraged, what would you say to her? Be your own friend.9 -
Take a pic of yourself today and take another pic after 6months of same distance 😊😊😊
Be patient.. Some things take time.. Figure is secondary most important is you are healthy..keep going and keep doing a healthy lifestyle12 -

I used to do that to myself all the time. It never ended well for me. That is the thing about spinning my wheels for close to 3 decades not finishing what I started. I have done a good number of the wrong things.
I did a lot of things differently this time and it has helped me lose most of the weight I needed to lose (over 200 pounds). Two of them that are relevant to this thread.
The first is that I forgave myself. Weight loss takes a long time and that time passes more quickly if you are kind to yourself. That is hard to do if you are still mad at yourself, or worse, punishing yourself.
The second is that I did my best to ignore weight loss. My goal stopped being the scale and started being the daily process of getting healthier. Each day that I finished with a calorie deficit I was getting healthier so those days were successful and mission complete. The next day I started again. When I got on the scale and I saw that weight was lost I considered that a bonus prize. I went on living my life and tried to be as happy as possible.
There is nothing you can do about what has happened in the past except learn from it. The only thing you can do for your future is hand it a slightly healthier body than you started with today. You have to live today anyway so do it as happily as possible and if you can end with a calorie deficit. If you mess up or decide that today needs to go another way then start again tomorrow.29 -

It took me awhile to notice a difference too. Are your clothes any looser? I agree with pictures and measurements to help realize a difference in your body. It does seem like it takes forever but remember 10lbs ago how much you wanted to lose weight. You've taken a lot of stress off your body with those 10lbs! The best thing you can do is keep going no matter what and think of where you'll be at the end of the journey. I never imagined the gains I'd make in my life when losing weight. I do have to admit now that I'm at goal when I look in the mirror at the sags and bags I'm upset I was ever as big as I was. I think we just have to keep working on accepting ourselves no matter how big we are.4

I think you should go over to the challenges forum and choose one that will force you to map out and visualize your goals over time. I just started one that has three major goal weights, with the last one in October. I calculated a 1.5 weight loss per week and set my weight loss goals by that (even though my calories are set a 2 lbs per week, so I have a much better chance of "winning" the challenge). It made me feel so great to see what I will weigh in April, July, and October. By October, I will be only 12 lbs over my ideal weight according to this challenge, even though I have 60 lbs to lose.
Also, I recommend you stop examining your body so often and just focus on measurements, your calories, and the scale. Basically, your actions. The results will come.2 -

I understand completely. It sucks to not see a change quickly. I have lost almost 30 lbs ( ill gain a few lose a few) within the last year, basically by trying to eat better and exercising. I agree with taking progress pictures because within my journey that has been the biggest thing for me and the way I can tell I have lost the weight! Good luck and dont give up on YOURSELF!!3

Consistency is KEY - this is a life change, not a quick fix. Keep tracking, working out, and when you consistently come in under maintenance calories the progress will come. Think in months, not weeks.3 -
I had a great quote that went, "It's a long journey and giving up now won't speed it up." Do you have rewards set up when you hit certain points? I did that last year and it really helped. My husband started changing them and I realized it messed with my motivation. We are all different and if you find your reward I think it may help you get to the journey's end.4

Don't be discouraged. You are 10 pounds closer to your goal! Change your mindset. Each pound you lose - no matter what the time frame is - gets you healthier and closer to your goal.2

Been there, done that! My most recent weight loss included losing the same fifty pounds I had lost twice before. What made it different was that this time I knew it was life and death, thanks to a diabetes diagnosis. Be happy! You have a chance to make better choices and turn your life around now, before it’s too late and you have a permanent diagnosis!
Take a hard look at your past regains and figure out where you went wrong and how not to do it again. For me it involved letting my husband tempt me into eating more and more like my old self, plus emotional eating due to problems in my life. I made up my mind to start fixing the long term problems and adding more joy to my life so I wouldn’t need to rely on food for pleasure. I also had a come to Jesus moment with my husband about temptation - no more asking if I wanted to finish what was on his plate, no more of him eating in front of me when it wasn’t mealtime, no more suggesting we go out for calorie heavy food, no more complaining when I want to work out. As a result he has also lost thirty pounds, which he didn’t even realize he needed to lose. And so far I am maintaining a normal BMI into my third year.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. So do it differently this time. Figure out what wasn’t sustainable for you in the long term and fix it.7 -

this is late, but...pick up a 10 lb package of hamburger next time your at the store and realize that is now what you've dropped. Can you hold a 10lb bowling ball with one hand, no fingers? That is what you've dropped.

I understand your frustration, I have been here before too. But I have a different mindset this time...
This time I am not worrying about the time, I am definitely a tortoise, not a hare. I am not putting pressure on myself, this is not going to be perfect, I will make bad choices, I will have bad days when I doubt myself... I am human. But leave the baggage behind. Each day is like a clean page in a note book, just waiting to be written and we can make THAT day a great day.
On a practical note, to motivate myself I purchased a toy abacus to visually track my weight loss. Each bead is a pound and I slide them along as I lose weight. I find myself looking forward to my weekly weigh in, especially as I approach a new row. It has been quite fun. Find something that works for you.

I do the 1lb at a time as well. I have a spreadsheet and only tick the box when I have lost another 1lb so it doesn't seem so overwhelming. I started out needing to lose around 60lb and have now lost 38lb so over half way there.
There have been stops and starts and ups and down and also a year long plateau/maintenance phase. Losing weight over the long term is not easy. However I am losing and no matter how slow it is that is better than gaining.
So please don't be discouraged, you can do this you just need consistancy and patience to get there.4 -
