My DSIL rang this morning. She is a retired intensive care sister. She can't do that work as she is nearly 67 and has a bad leg. She is also a counsellor and they have asked her to do pastoral work. This is talking with people whose loved ones have died. I'm not happy about this for Karen's reasons. Her boyfriend, who has moved in with her for the duration, is diabetic and on the extra skinny side. She hasn't yet been called up and I hope she won't be, but she is made of "giving service" stuff. It was lovely to talk to her. Yesterday her daughter Messaged me. That's a rare thing.
Absolutely beautiful weather. So strange. I once wrote a poem about how weird it feels when funerals are held in gorgeous weather, like it was for my stillborn daughter. The contrast with the rain inside is mind bending. Spring is burgeoning.
I said DH should do the dance challenge I've set the grandchildren. I would video it and send it to them. He didn't look very enthusiastic!! He said he would video me, but it wouldn't be funny if I did it, as I love it!

Regarding the length of time this situation could last ...
They are estimating that the vaccine won't be available for 12-18 months. That means the virus could keep doing its rounds till then. It is, apparently, coming back into China now that people who fled are returning.
That doesn't mean we have to remain in isolation for 12-18 months, but we will have to practice hygiene, social distancing, and businesses may have to change the way that they operate.

Barbara AHMOD - The reason the governor hasn't put Texas on total lockdown is because approx 4/5 of the states counties don't have reported cases of C19. Some of those are of course because testing hasn't been done. He is (at this point) leaving it to the cities/counties to issue lockdowns for their areas. If the numbers keep going up on affected counties, I suspect a lockdown will happen at that point. In the Austin area, we are expecting an announcement today to issue a shelter in place. That's what I am doing anyway, so no change for me.

Carol (Peach)- Biggest of hugs to you and your DH for letting your renter, who is out of work, unpaid, know that she doesn't need to worry about her rent this month! As a person who could easily be in that situation, it touched my heart. I hope more mortgage companies and landlords take a similar stance.

My new normal routine: Kids arrive in the morning, I meet them at cubby area in my garage (where all of their outerwear stays), I take their temp and we say good bye to parents, we go into the house and wash our hands, then in for breakfast or play. (Pretty much normal activities; but with more handwashing and one more temperature check at mid day). Kitchen surfaces, handles, chairs, etc. are wiped down with clorox solution after each meal and kitchen activity. We spend two plus hours outside every day (as long as it is not raining). All "mouthed" toys/objects are thrown into a disinfecting bin. Kids are picked up. Parents text me when they arrive and child is taken to the garage cubbies for hand off. ( I really miss the interaction with the parents). When all kids are gone, all surfaces, shelves, furniture in kitchen, bathroom, living room are wiped down with clorox solution. All door knobs, handles, railings and bannisters are wiped down with clorox solution. All windows (because their noses and mouths are always pressed against them) are wiped down first with clorox solution- then with windex to get rid of streaks. Toys that have been played with get laid on a sheet and sprayed with clorox solution or run through the dishwasher on hot setting. Sweep and mop floors in those three rooms. I then throw my clothes in the washing machine, take a shower and wash hair and then make dinner for family. It is now 7:30pm and I have an hour or two to relax. Tim comes up stairs to the daycare areas, only when we are outside or when the kids are napping. He wears gloves. He and I are also keeping a "space bubble" between us, probably not six feet, but usually a minimum of four feet. I am thankful that the bed he is most comfortable in, is in his office; so separate sleeping situations is not a new thing for us. We are also "hopeful" that the plaquenil he is taking for his RA is creating a barrier of sorts for the virus. We have seen articles that the ingredient hydrochloriquine is proving to be something that works to fight this bug.
Anyway, all good here. I am beginning to get calls for care, so we will see how long before I am fully engaged on the front lines. I have sent an email to my current families and all of my non-essential families have pulled their children (two families-three kids). I have two other families that are essential workers, but are working from home. They still bring their kids to me because it IS hard to get things done with a two year old and a four year old around. But I am preparing myself for them to decide to keep their kids home, once I have more families of front line workers. The odds of catching the virus increase in these cases.

Good morning ladies!
Just popping in for a few minutes right now. State of WA has been put under a "Stay Home" order for all but essential jobs - I just scanned that list and most of the places I shop are considered essential - Big Box stores, pet stores, farm stores, garden centers and even the Cannabis store!
Karen in VA- please keep those tips coming. Soapy washcloth wiping down store purchases - great idea! Love the reason why. You are teaching health & safety 101 here and I'm an avid student.
Windex? I have a shelf in the garage with just about every spray cleaner created so will see what else what else might fit the bill to get after those nasty viruses. Might accidentally clean the inside of my car too. It will be in shock!

BTW - just to elaborate a little on the "feeling stressed". There are a number of things going on.
Worried about parents in Canada.
Worried about brother and his kids in the US.
Taking 2 courses at once is a little more stressful than just 1 course.
Work is busier and I'm trying to get through a mountain of "usual" work all at once ... just in case ...
My husband's situation continues ... and aspects of it mean I have to be busier than usual. And he's worried.
I'd like a day to rest ... but there are always 1001 things to do.

Texas- Yup our state is certain areas only on mandatory or optional lockdown .My area mandatory
Dad is now paying extra for HEB to home delivery 🚚 so no store risk as much. Aunt still online curb side pickup told him to tell her to consider home delivery they can order together!

Barbara removing wires would need to be done carefully becasue unless done with gloves the flliter could get contaminated . Still it will play with it and try it. To me the use for this mask is an individual to use like putting on your shirt in the morning.The important thin as others have pointed out is take it off right away when home and then wash it in soap and water with a few sprays of bleach spray. I also like the idea of spraying it periodically during the day with Eucalypsis spray.
For doctors it might not be as practical because ideally they change masks in between patients. For the time being masks are going to be in such short supply the doctorrs and nurses will probably have to wear the same mask all day. If this mask or one like it again my suggestion would be to spray it down with a eucalypsis between patients and only use it in a COVID-19 ward. I would use a new cover the next day because would cut down on doctor being exposed. Still trying to figure if much use practically.
Still for public who do not have much access to mask it is something. I admit I am reusing my N-95 mask and in ideal conditons it would be thrown out by now.
SuzieQ you are so correct in what you are reading. I know I am on the manic side. I had half the house ready to move to my son's. It would have been a disaster for him to see me coming with all that stuff. I quickly realized the error of my ways. Up side is it did get me to see what I vaule at a time like this and what is truly needed in time of emergency.
I slept the best I have slept in days last night. I am starting to see there are people working to come up with creative solutions on how to deal with this. My choir is going to try a Zoom choir get together tomorrow night.
It is like everyone is struck down at the same time and everyone is reacting to this differently and I respect that. I knew somewhat to expect because of Amber's head up yet my reponse is pushing me towards mania. I recognize this and as hard as it is I know I need to pull back and focus on one task at a time and pace myself.
I think part of my reaction is I have been in crisis mode for twelve years with son and thirty years for me so I finely think I can say I have learned to get my sleep through a war.
I am already seeing so many people reaching out to help each other get through this. We will prevale. If my son can still believe after everything he has been thourgh I truly believe in the power of the human spirit.
I miss those that have taken a break from us during this time I understand. It is overwhelming and worrisome what is happening. They are taking the time they need to sort this out for themselves and where to go from here.
I take many breaks from dealing with this world crisis.
As I have said before when I see people going through a crisis there is no right or wrong way to repond and do something nice for yourself and someone else a phone call or text to check in is great..
Yesterday with mask, gloves, and glassed on and social distancing I dropped off a package of supplies to a stranger who is taking care of twin foster girls. Made my day.

All who are cleaning, I'm sure you know this, but please be very careful not to mix bleach and ammonia, even in solution - and Windex is ammonia. Together in sufficient quantities, they can create chlorine gas, and it's quite dangerous. KJ - your cleaning list reminded me! , and I noticed you use them quite separately. For everyone, please note, many dish soaps also contain ammonia, which is fine, but if they do, should not be mixed with bleach either.
Still working at home, my situation simply hasn't changed that much except I don't take lunchtimes to do retail therapy.

left the house on the bike at 4:30 this morning and it seems like there was more traffic than usual. we (washington state) is supposed to be on mandatory home stay. kirby and i both have "essential" jobs. actually, yesterday was kirby's 1st day back after having the week off. he was working in the OR pharmacy (he's a pharmacy tech at a hospital and will work either in the in patient pharmacy or the OR pharmacy OR= Operating Room) and he said there were only 3 orders he had to fill. i asked how many does he usually have, he said like 60-70 orders. i asked how long does it take for him to fill 3 orders, said about 2-3 hours. said he helped out in other areas to keep busy. basically, only necessary operations are being done5

On March 23, I issued Executive Order 20-12, effective immediately until further notice. This is a statewide order. Failure to comply with the order will be considered an immediate danger to public health.

We’re staying home for the most part. We still haven’t been able to buy toilet paper.

Kelly ~ You must be exhausted doing all that cleaning. I hope your day care families will compensate you while they are not bringing their children each day. There were a lot of comments in the Nextdoor emails about the fact that many people are not using their house cleaners and how they don’t realize that this is how these people survive.
DH had to pick up his BnL at the hospital yesterday and take him back to the assisted living facility. They brought the BnL out to the car so DH did not have to go inside. When he came home, into the washing machine went his clothes.
I tried to put in a pick up order from Kroger yesterday and was told that it couldn't be picked up until Friday from 7PM to 8PM. Just erased all the items as I figure by that time of day, it would all begone. We will try to go during the elder shopping time from 7 to 8 Am.
So many pages to read that I know there were so many I did not comment on. But, want all to know that I am so happy to have this place to visit each day! Thank you!

Karen in VA -About that soapy washcloth - does it have to be warm? Do you just keep it in a baggie or an insulated cooler? Do you wipe items dry with paper towels that you then chuck into the garbage? I have a huge jug of grease cutting Dawn that will probably be perfect for the job.

Katla - looks like Oregon's essential jobs list is close to Washington's. I really liked our Governor's presentation last night, found it very calming and hopeful. He said let's give it a try for 2 weeks minimum and see if it pays off.
Margaret - I want to reach thru the screen and give you a virtual hug. Totally agree, I think lots of folks who were under stress anyhow from caring for physically or mentally fragile family members are finding this latest circumstance maxing us out. Sure helps to take a breather and get things into perspective. I find myself instinctively dwelling on the worst that could happen scenario until I talk it over with someone or just put my fears down on paper = love this group!
I asked my DH if he had any anxiety about somehow catching this virus. He said not at all, if it's his time to go, so be it. That helped me at lot. He's had a few close calls in the past decade, and he's pretty stoic about most things anyhow.
Saw a blurb this morning that the WHO is recommending people watch the news only ONCE per day to benefit their mental health. Totally agree, it's too crazy and stressful and full of things we cannot control. I can get the weather report online. And an email twice a day from our county emergency management division that fills me in on what's important and may impact us. That's all I need to know.

What you don’t see is their Real purpose which is building Hospital 🏥 rooms ,Installing machines that weigh a ton for Hospitals after they create a secured spot to place it with electrical plugs to water lines, putting doors y wall up to turn a waiting room into an isolation room , turning a closet into a room to take measurements to blood pressure so nurses can be safer push people through faster,, wheel chair ramp to a door not originally to take patients out of but now need it because of tent hospitals,plumb the toilets, etc . There also needed on military bases housing the sick to medical clinics y grocery stores (picture the electrical needing work a whole row of meat freezers not working!) So yes Hubby still working in our city some cities may decide construction isn’t essential but our city with 2million people needs them still.
