You're most welcome. I've tried a couple of her recipes. The one I'll definitely do again is the turkey cutlet.3 -
Thanks for reminding me, speyerj, that you can reset your starting weight! I hadn’t thought to do this, and honestly it was kind of depressing to still be trying to get down to my previous starting weight. I just updated my starting weight, and the graph is so much happier now and better reflects how much I have been trying over the past 4 months.5

I had one of those mornings where my gut woke me up two minutes before my alarm went off. I hope that's not an omen for the day ahead! Lol.
For a change, I was a little hungry in my sleep just before I woke up. I noticed it but it wasn't big enough to wake up for. And, of course, now that I'm awake I still am dealing with the morning reluctance to eat/minor nausea I always have.3 -
Well, yesterday was both a success and a flop. I ended up eating the last baggie of Hershey miniatures (yea, they're gone!). Had to really adjust food plan for evening since I hadn't planned on having them, very frustrating. Am happy they are gone!
Posted, then had this thought --- in the past, if I'd had a bag of Hershey miniatures in the house, I'd have eaten them all within a couple of days. This was, what? ... a week and a half or so? I think I'll give myself a little pat on the back for having gained a little bit of self control. LOL
Did not get in all of my planned exercise. I focused on finishing cleaning the bathroom walls ... and did get them done. So, today is the floor in the bathroom and it'll be done!!
Have a good day everyone!!8 -
Hello. I'm 44 y/o. No clue what my current weight is. I had surgery 1/126/2020 and the plan was to shoot straight to a gym as soon as my doctor cleared but by the time that happened it was no longer an option. Started walking by my self. Then my husband ended up home and we were walking together. I work as a Customer Service Representative for a pest control company and we're considered essential so no more walks with the hubby. Can't walk during my lunch break its way too hot by then and it's only a half hour right now because we're working limited hours. Any tips on videos or at home work outs would be greatly appreciated.3

@packersfan0103 Hi welcome to this thread! I use the Leslie Sansone power walking utube clips, they are great if you only have a limited time!
@cesse47 Well done on your self-control! I think it's a vital tool to learn. Scrubbing walls sounds like exercise to me!
@FredaMaree Hi welcome! Good luck on your journey, great support on this site!4 -
@packersfan0103 - Hi, welcome.
What about an early morning walk before your shift begins?
Also, as hard as it may be to face it, weigh yourself tomorrow morning, right after your first morning bathroom visit. It's important to know where you are now to estimate calories expended and really important for measuring your progress. While you are at it, take a progress picture if you don't have one already and a few measurements. Waist and Hips are really enough, but if you want you can do the whole gambit (neck, bust, upper arm, thigh, calf). In 6 months you'll be happy to have something to compare to.5 -
@cjkirton123 - we don't sell products to one another on this thread. I've flagged your post as spam and recommend that others do the same.3

It wasn't until recently my weight loss was showing on MFP. MFP shows I have lost 6 pounds now but since mid December I have really lost 12 pounds. I realized that was when I 1st got on here I had lost 6 pounds so it wasn't my highest weight. I also had left my weight where it was when I lost some weight a few years ago. I finally have gotten past both of those losses so that my loss is showing. That is an achievement in and of itself. Great job making progress.4 -
Well, yesterday (Monday) I did exercise as planned. We actually got the home delivery yesterday from the local dairy with other foods they offer. Only one thing was missing and they didn't charge for it. So I guess my Mondays aren't no longer when I am in a funk.
I have continued to think about my plan for May by evaluating April. Today is when I try and do my weight training/exercises/stretching at home plan. It seems to take about 30 minutes now. I need lighter weights for a few of my exercises I decided today. I am keeping my calories low and haven't done quite as well on water so the weight loss has slowed for now. I have Greek lemon chicken and potatoes in the crockpot.6 -
@KeriA I am so impressed with your progress this year and plans!! Very inspiring!3

I'm 5' 8"
Original SW: 212
January SW: 209
February SW: 204
March SW: 204
April SW: not sure, maybe ~206. My last few weigh-ins have been about 206-208. It's my TOM this week so I'm feeling extra bloated
I'm an essential employee and I've been working A LOT. With the gyms closed I've been doing loops around the neighborhood, but very slowly.
I need to get back on track.10 -
I took a walk yesterday, but spent the evening miserable due to IBS symptoms. Hopefully all that will work its way out today. I wore the wrong bra on the walk, and now my upper back is really sore. Lesson learned!
Today I am going to do laundry and bake. Boyfriend and Girlfriend will have ham and beans and cornbread muffins for lunch. As beans don't like me, I'm having a leftover hamburger. I have crab cakes planned for tonight, and even if they are done with faux crab to save money, with enough spices they're still pretty tasty. We will have them with rice pilaf and steamed broccoli.
As far as baking goes, while we have plenty of rolls, garlic bread, and cornbread muffins, I noticed last night that we were low on medicinal fudge. So I will make a batch of milk chocolate fudge and a batch of dark chocolate fudge. I'll probably flavor the dark chocolate with rum. This is sugar-free fudge, so the calorie load isn't as bad as it could be.4 -
Hi, all! I have been stalkerish-ly reading all the comments, but school has opened back up here in Korea and the last few weeks have been ridiculously busy. I will be posting a new group for May within the next 12 hours or so!9
-
I want to do this week what others are doing. Evaluating April in order to determine my goals for May. I may start this today but I am not ready to complete or post this. I noticed the last time I included goals or lbs lost I didn't even have my lowest weight shown since it was only .2 lbs lower than before. I want to see how this week goes I think for a few days more. Yesterday was Sunday and I did some exercise. Today is Monday and I plan to exercise so I will have exercised every day this week. This Monday is going much better than the last 2.
Boy, I hope your yesterday went better than mine ... couldn't keep my fingers out of the cookie jar!! I have written down a rough draft of my May goals; just need to fine tune it a bit. I'm hoping by Saturday weighin I'll have undone the damage I did the last couple of days.
*raises coffee cup* Here's to a better today!!10 -

Non-scale goals:- Some type of movement activity/exercise in the morning and evening - more like once a day
- Water at 128 oz - between 96-128
- Continue eating healthy foods - yes but lots of treats
- Prioritize sleep and manage anxiety - better at this
Thank you @RavenStCloud for posting the new thread! I am glad to hear that things are getting back to normal for you and would love to hear what your experience has been like - you are several months ahead of us!! Our schools will be closed for the rest of the school year.9 -
@aliciap0116 - woohoo! Big Woosh! Yeah, the scale is an evil mistress. Just when you are ready to give up on her entirely, she finally gives you your due. Congratulations on the loss!6
-
@RavenStCloud I will look out for the new thread! And when you get a minute, I would also love to hear about your experience of lockdown/post lockdown.
We are in week 5, our government is taking us down to stage 4, I still can't work and schools are closed, no socializing, no alcohol sales, but we can finally exercise outside of our gardens, I can't wait to go for a walk on the beach! I follow Covid-19 stats on an app called Worldometer, I'm encouraged to see numbers in the worst areas coming down, there is a glimpse of a light at the end of a dark tunnel! Keep safe ladies!

Long post, please skip if you don't want to read about corona.
Some of you have asked about how things are going in South Korea in relation to the virus. Here is a great article that was posted today:
BBC News - Coronavirus and South Korea: How lives changed to beat the virus
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-52482553
Just a disclaimer: The following is my personal experience and opinions. I'm an American living in the second largest city in SK. I speak daily with friends and family back in the States, so I know how radically different things are. And I keep getting asked to compare the US to SK's timeline of events and, sorry to say, it's impossible. The corona virus came to SK in the second half of February and here's what happened/is happening.
The South Korean government has been so incredibly on top of things here. I can't begin to describe how incredibly safe I felt/feel here and how guilty I am that I am not back home helping my family because of the danger they are in. The South Korean government's policy on the virus is called Trace, Test, Treat.
Here, testing was/is available to everyone early and easily. There is national health care here, so even if you get sick and have to go to the hospital, you don't have to worry about the financial cost. Masks were put on by everyone in February and we still continue to wear them everyday. We got/get alerts on our phones about patients who were in our area with a timeline of where they've been, to know if we could have been exposed. Schools and large gatherings were closed from the end of February. Public schools are actuay still closed, but private academies like mine have opened this month (we had about 60% attendance). In school, all students wear masks and we do our best to have the students sit apart from each other for lessons and lunch. In my opinion, I would not have opened my school until the public schools were also open, but it wasn't my call.
Grocery stores never had a run on anything. They were never out of anything like toilet paper or soap or food...there was almost no change. People shopped calmly and responsibly. The only thing that you couldn't buy (for about 3 weeks) that you regularly could was face masks. And even then, the government set up a system where, depending upon your birth year, you could go to a pharmacy on a set day of the week and buy two disposable masks ($1.50 each). Now, though they are back in stock everywhere. Also, for about two weeks, hand sanitizer was difficult to find.
March was our difficult month. Most people stayed home, but the streets were never empty-empty. Stores never really closed. Movie theaters and gyms did for a little while. But people here were responsible and were trusted to stay home and social distance. They wore masks if they went out. Big events/gatherings still are being discouraged, but going outside now, apart from all the face masks, everything seems pretty normal.
Currently, SK is mainly only getting new Covid cases from abroad at the moment (and they all have to quarantine when they arrive at the airport). But, we are aware that we could get a new wave of this virus and things could get bad again very fast. But "bad" here means something completely different than "bad" in the US.
Total South Korean population: 51 million
Total deaths attributed to Covid: 24711 -

Wow. That's an amazing response, and an incredible mindset for public health/responsibility for the whole country, and for every individual to have that mindset. It's incredible.3 -
Height: 5' 6"
SW (09/08/2019): 239.2 lbs
April SW (4/1/20): 172.6 lbs
4/5/2020: 172.4 lbs
4/12/2020: 172.0 lbs
4/19/2020: 169.8 lbs
4/26/2020: 168.6 lbs
4/30/2020: 168.0 lbs
April GW: 168 lbs
GW: 150 lbs (then reconsider)
Well, it’s kind of hard to believe, but I made it. For less than a second I saw 167.8 before the scale settled on 168.
A couple of things stood out for me this morning. Mainly how happy I was that I was at 168. It’s not that I met my goal, but that I was happy that I lost “only” 6 pounds this month. I think at some point I got hung up on the “fact” that it should be a goal for anyone who is overweight to lose 10 pounds a month until you reach your goal. As, in, that’s how it works. Probably from reading magazines with diet plans from the earliest time I can remember. It resonated that I could be that happy with a less-than-10-pound weight loss for the month, and not think that I didn’t do well enough.
So, I mean it when I say I appreciate every fraction of a pound I lose – as long as what it represents is permanent, healthy weight loss because I’ve changed my life. It doesn’t mean that I don’t sometimes get inpatient or that I don’t want to lose weight faster – who wouldn’t? But this time weight loss is the result, not the purpose.
One of the things that I’m hoping won’t be a challenge for May, but I’d be kidding myself if I didn’t account for it at the outset of the month: I did something to the back of my right leg in the area of the Achilles tendon during my Sunday run. I did a walk/run workout on Tuesday and during the workout itself only got a few twinges of pain. But I was pretty sore yesterday, so I decided to ride my bike on the trail instead.
The bike I have is an instrument of torture. It is a beach cruiser that I bought for riding on the Boardwalk and some streets during my summer visits to the shore. I wanted to keep it at my Mom’s condo. But you know how condos are and I did want some sort of bike to ride for pleasure back at home so I took it home. I rode it on the trail a couple of times last summer, but between focusing on walking and running and using the gym I haven’t wanted to use the bike all that much for exercise since.
Well. I don’t deny it needs maintenance. And I don’t deny that a beach cruiser is not ideal for riding the hills in this area. My brother asked me if I hated myself when I bought this bike. I laughed and told him that the one thing you know with a cruiser is that every bit of distance you ride is due to the power of your legs, and not the leverage provided by changing to easier gears.
So last night’s ride: I think the front tire was a bit flat. And there was a crosswind on the trail, so I really was pedaling against the wind nearly the entire time. The small hills were hard, but I didn’t need to walk them, either. Also, I think the seat needs some adjusting, because my knees felt terrible after the ride. And because I can only keep the bike outside and exposed to the elements, there was a significant amount of rust and the handlebar grips are disintegrating and literally formed a film over my hands as I rode – I had to use salt scrub to clean my hands after the ride.
I am going to clean this one up and check the tires and see if anything improves. If not, I may buy a new bike. But I’m also going to need to buy a cover for it as well!
I’ll see everyone over in the May thread. Thanks once again and as always, to @RavenStCloud for setting up the May thread!

End of April weigh-in
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
4/1: 262.0
4/8: 260.8
4/15: 258.0
4/22: 255.8
4/30: 252.4
April GW: 254.2
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- exercise bike 5 times per week - 5/5
- short walking videos or treadmill twice a day 5 times per week - 4/5
- strength training 2 times per week - 2/2
- chair yoga 3 times per week - 3/3
- choose 2 or 3 core specific exercises and start doing them 3 times per week - didn't do
I'm thankful I met my April goal...and even exceeded it just a bit. Hope you all are well. See you in the May thread!5 -
@RavenStCloud Very interesting read, thank you! S. Korea's strategy worked! A great model for other country's to follow. See you on the new thread!
@mmdeveau Well done on your loss, you have the right mindset to keep your weight off for good! I think we are so conditioned to going on diet, restricting ourselves, losing weight, falling off the wagon, and putting on more weight! And then buying into another fad diet... Its a hamster wheel! I've promised myself I will never ever pay for any diet program again! For me, it has to be a life change, so slow and steady wins the race!4 -
@RavenStCloud thanks for posting the new thread and sharing about South Korea. It made me shiver to read about the population and number of deaths attributable to COVID. It makes me so sad to think of all the souls we have lost here in the United States due to such poor planning, testing, and compliance. Glad you are safe and things are returning to normal.2
-
@AlexanderFindsHerself sorry you aren’t feeling well. I just put crab cakes on my meal ideas list. I love them but haven’t ever made them at home. Why not?
@cesse47 no it didn’t. Wednesday was a lot like my Mondays before this week. I didn’t even exercise. However I ate just below my calorie goal and lost a bit today relative to the day before.
@aliciap0116 Glad to see the loss for you at the end of the month. You have got yourself in a good position to get into the 170s.
@changeforeverlj I wish our government (federal) had its stages worked out. Our governor had a task force for construction and they are starting to allow some safe construction to start. The task force included labor and construction company leadership and they all agreed to safety standards and to what could be done safely. He is going to set up similar task forces for other economic areas of our State. However we still have new cases and deaths although we are no longer the 1st State on the list. Our curve is not only flattening but lowering in WA state. Western States are working together as our some of the Eastern Seaboard states since neighboring states affect each other. He is expected to announce a continuation of our stay at home order this week.
@RavenStCloud Thanks for posting this thread and May’s thread. I am glad to know you were stalking us since I was missing you! It is so sweet of you to respond to the request to let us know about S Korea’s opening up. Thanks for the BBC news reference. I will definitely read this. I love the Trace Test Treat model. I think many States would have liked to follow something like this but couldn’t get the supplies they needed to do that. I hope you stay safe.
As to toilet paper here yes there was hoarding but the reason we had shortages were because of the distribution system between personal vs institutional/business use. All the sudden no one was using the business/institutional bathrooms but they were home buying the toilet paper for home use. The distribution system for this was overburdened suddenly. That is why we had shortages. There was plenty of toilet paper for our employers who no longer needed it if they weren’t essential businesses. There wasn’t enough for home use. Also some were trying to buy more so they wouldn't have to go out to the store and they could stay at home. I also had to help supply my Mom who lives in a retirement community. We aren't allowed to see her anymore but we drop off essential supplies. We were limited to buying 1 package of one brand of TP when we went. We are having similar issues with food distribution now.
@mmdeveau Yes! You made it! I do not think losing 10 pounds a month is sustainable loss. When we weigh more it is maybe okay but when you are in onderland I am not sure it is as easy or as good for you. Who wouldn’t want to lose 10 pounds every month but when you think about it I am not so sure. We want to live while we are losing weight. We want to start living the way we will for the rest of our lives. I applaud you for ‘only’ losing 6 pounds. I want a new bike too. We took all our bikes in to get tuned up and he said none were worth it. We had to get my daughter a new one to go back to school. We need to get rid of the others. I am thinking about putting mine on a stand and converting it to a stationary bike. It was a hand me down but was not a bad bike.
@MuttiNM Congrats on making your goal. Great job at your exercise goals too.
I will post this and then my last April check in. Then May!1
