Monday, and I woke up early to cook.
My mother-in-law (well, boyfriend's mom, but she will be, and I love her already) is having severe back issues, and the doctor wants her to have surgery. She doesn't want to. I can't fix her back, but what I can do is provide a couple of casseroles/things that will reheat easy so that she and Father-in-law can eat without her feeling she has to make him a good dinner. (He's not much of a cook.) And I delight in cooking.
I'm making them pot roast with carrots and potatoes, an apple cobbler, and dinner rolls. Also a pie-sized quichecake, of bacon and cheddar cheese and mushrooms, and orange-pecan sweet bread, like banana bread. That should solve breakfasts and dinners for a chunk of the week, and I can send them something else next week.
We ourselves are having chicken (and jalapeno, if desired) quesadillas for lunch, and Chicken Parmesan for dinner, with pan-seared zucchini and garlic bread.6 -

I've put on exactly 15 pounds since corona hit in February. While this is not good news, I'm not surprised. I was eating/bingeing all the things, staying in, and generally avoiding the scale.
This month, I feel like I'm in a good place mentally. I'm rejoining my gym and hoping to go around four times a week, preferably in the morning. I found out that one of my coworkers also goes to my gym and hopefully we can meet up at least once a week to workout together.
Also this month, I'm starting a no meat or dairy 30 day challenge. If it works out, I may go longer. My biggest concern with food right now is making sure I get enough protein. But I cooked tofu for the first time over the weekend and tried three different cooking methods with three different sauces. My favorite so far is a tofu crumble cooked in sweet chili sauce. I put it in a wrap with lots of veggies and it was great.
My goals for the month of May are:
1. Log all meals
2. Avoid meat/dairy/chocolate
3. Gym three times a week, but try for four
4. Make good food choices at work/work events
💜Happy May everyone! 💜9 -
orange > Thanks for the welcome It looks like you have your goals all set and doing great. You were so
close to the snacks being under 20%.. you will do it!!! Keep up the great work
Jess > I am also new to the group and using the community pages. Great to have you join us x
Venesia > I am not so new to MFP but have only been back here a couple of months but I felt the
same way when I was reading through some posts. I have only joined the community the other day and everyone
seems great. Nice to have you aboard.
Zoe > Nice to meet you. Not sure what the NSV stands for or the C25K but im sure it's exercise so
well done lol I have limited mobility at the minute myself. Just walking is very difficult. Hope I
get to a place where I can step that up
Changeforeverlj> So sorry to hear about your neighbour, that must be so incredibly scary for his family. Being
hospitalised is bad enough but not know what is wrong and it being at this crazy time must be driving them crazy.
My father was hospitalised during this pandemic but was in the hospice ward so my family were able to be at his
side 24/7 but they all had to wear masks etc. I hope they find out what the problem was and have it fixed and have
him back at home in no time x
Alexandra > Wow your in laws are very lucky to have you in their lives That food sounds wonderful. I would be
so terrible to be able to cook like that and not eat it. My husband is working from home now because of the Quarantine
and he also cooks food for him and our daughter while I cook for myself (the food I am using to lose weight). When he
goes back to work however I will be doing all the cooking and I really am going to have to learn to not eat and cook!! lol
Raven > Well sure sounds like you are back on track Where are you from that they have opened up gyms? Hopefully you can
work out with your coworker as Im sure it would make it more enjoyable I have never tried tofu before but I am a big
meat eater. I could not imagine going without meat. That is always my favourite part of the meal, everything else is just
a side dish..lol I wouldn't mind trying some new things though.. will have to look into trying new things. My girlfriend
had just mentioned she tried Polenta? I think that was what it was called. She said it is not too bad and an alternative
for meat (health reasons she is only supposed to eat meat once a week). So something you might want to try if you have not already8 -
I'm new and I already think this group is awesome. Thanks everyone!
I've been losing since the end of October, with a good long break in February and March. Got back in the saddle a couple of weeks ago with the Mayo Clinic Diet. The first two weeks are eating plant-based clean for two weeks 100% of the time, so I lost 7 lbs over that time. Now I am starting the more sustainable long-term phase of eating plant-based clean as much as possible, which I think means that one day a week I can allow some flex. At least that's my definition right now. We'll see how that goes!
Age: 32
Height: 5'3"
SW: 226.4lbs
CW: 203.8 lbs
GW: 160lbs (and then reassess)
Goals for May:
1) Get into the 100s!
2) Reach at least 13/15 points on the Mayo Clinic Diet checklist every day, except for one day a week
3) 30-60 minutes physical activity every day
4) Fit into the dress I wore for our City Hall wedding in July 2018
5) Easily run for 2 minutes at a time
6) Stay between 1200-1400 calories per day8 -
May the 4th be with you!
I'm still trying to frame some of my goals for the remainder of the month, but I wanted to pop in to say hi, and welcome to our new members. 🎉
@BeUncommon - NSV means Non-Scale Victory. They are so important. You've seen how so many have a variety of goals. Sometimes the scale can be a jerk, and if you're relying on weight alone to track your progress it can be really demoralizing when the scale is not reflecting your hard work. Having these other NSVs can help pull you through the rough patches when the scale is not acknowledging how hard you've been working. C25K is an abbreviation for the Couch-to-5K program. It is a popular running program that people adopt to start running, usually with the goal of completing a 5K race. I always warn that people should not be fooled by the promise of the title. You really need to be able to walk comfortably at a "good' pace for 30 minutes before you start the program. It doesn't mean you can't leverage the plan itself to help you progress to a higher level of fitness. I've adapted the intervals and the progression of those intervals over the nine weeks to other kinds of workouts, like on the elliptical or for biking. In that sense it's one of those things that if you start where you are and keep working, in a relatively short period of time you will see progress, hopefully without injury!
I am so very late to this party, and hope to be able to catch up tonight. I do have my data though.
It was a beautiful weekend here on the East Coast. Warmer than it has been for a really long time, and the first time that the temperatures have felt seasonal. (We are actually going to have a freeze warning this coming weekend!) Yesterday would have been the day of my 10-mile race, which of course was rescheduled. I did not let my training go to waste! I ran 10 miles yesterday on my regular trail!
I am glad that is out of the way, because I really need to back down a bit. My lower half was really starting to feel the overuse effects of only being able to walk and run for exercise. My hamstrings are a bit better, but still sore. And I'm having issues with tendons and ligaments in my legs and ankles. I actually had sharp pain around my right Achilles tendon and was hesitant about running so far yesterday. Stretching has helped all of the above, and I had no sharp pain yesterday during or after the run. I'm sure a relative degree of rest will help towards resolving these issues.

To make things worse I just lost my Dad 3 days before my birthday and while in lock down.
I am sincerely sorry for your loss. I lost my Mom in early March just as Stay At Home restrictions were being applied and it was extremely stressful to arrange everything, have her brought home from out of state, and tell people they were not allowed to attend, no hugs/kisses from those who did attend, etc. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you being in another country. Again, I'm so very sorry for your loss.
I also am obese so understand that feeling. I'm 72, lung compromised, sedate ... so right now, it's baby steps for me getting started.
Good Luck!8 -

This month I am going to focus on movement. Whether it be formal exercise or just getting outside and being more active. I want to enjoy the warmer weather and not stress over what we aren't able to do because of Covid 19. Work has been crazy busy and considered essential so there has been no staying home.
I have tried not to give in to stress snacking but on days I did, I told myself to get up and move.
WTG!! Excellent loss thus far ... keep up the excellent work!! Being more active is key; one I'm really trying to incorporate in my life. ..and, THANK YOU!! as an essential, you're putting yourself on the line and I appreciate all you do ... Stay Safe! hugs6 -

We've had quite a weekend, my neighbor was rushed off to hospital in an ambulance,Very scary!! And with no contact with him leaving the family feeling scared and confused! They also worried about him being alone.[/quote]
I think one of the worst issues with hospitalization is the isolation ... for both the patient and family members. As humans we need the support and presence of our loved ones. This separation is brutal just in that respect alone.
Hope your neighbor is diagnosed quickly and recovers quickly.6 -
Hi everyone & welcome new people!

☀️Keep moving at least 5 if not 6 days a week.

Happy May everyone!
April was a bust. The quarantine has proven a few things about me.
1) I thrive on a schedule and being busy
2) I could not be a stay at home parent, or working from home parent permanently.
3) When I am stuck in the house, I eat and I drink wine. I am not making bad food choices, just eating too much of it!
4) Just because I have the time, doesn't mean I will actually do what I should (i.e. walk, run)
But I am back, and hoping I can be a little more disciplined this month. I have not weighed myself (honestly, I am scared to), but I have goals!
1) Walk, run, garden, do a DVD or YouTube workout video 6x per week (and at least MOVE on day 7).
2) Get 96oz of water daily.
3) Cut wine to 2-3 times per week.
4) Read one book per week minimum.
Best wishes everyone! Even when I am embarrassed and not posting, I am always reading the thread! This group rocks!
(And May the 4th be with you! -- watching Star Wars in Episode order with your kids is FUN!)

Hi everyone,
Hoping to get some motivation to keep me going during Covid. I’m at home and gained over the first month which isn’t great as I’d a lot to lose anyway. Have invested in an exercise bike since last Friday and am hoping that plus moderate eating will help me lose.
Any advice appreciated. Even if it just gets me on here and keeps me focussed.

Get to 5km on the bike in 10 mins.
Build up to 20kms on the bike total in a day.
Count what I eat every day
Stay under 2000 calories a day in May.8 -
Oh man. I worked from home all last week and it sucked. But now I'm back in the office and it still sucks, just with less back pain from hunching over my laptop on the couch.
They're reopening a bunch of stuff. This week. We haven't even hit the peak of our curve yet. So many people are going to die because of this and I'm so sad and angry. I barely slept last night, I kept having nightmares.
I'm up 6 pounds this morning, so I can safely say its THAT time of month again. I know it's all water, bloat and stress (with a side of the all meat pizza I had for dinner) but it sucks to pop back up that much on the scale.13 -

Welcome! Basically it all boils down to having a calorie deficit every day, drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day, and including some exercise each day. If you've gone through the guided setup to establish your goals, you're on the right track. Now it's a matter of honestly logging every thing that you eat or drink. This also allows you to better monitor your calories, carbs, and sodium which play a role in our weight loss / gain. Good Luck!7 -

Hey I can’t believe I went 3 days without checking in.
I can read the posts but probably not reply to all.
@MuttiNM nice to hear you had a good bike ride.
@torihudson6 Hope finals week goes well. My daughter is in midterms week.
@pamiede no wonder you are doing so well. 4 pounds in Aril is great!
@cesse47 some of our farmer’s markets are opening too but they are too far for me
@speyerj Only eating when hungry is what got me started to lose more.but I also log and eat at a deficit although I try to stay above my BMR.
@hessjansen yes we read the posts. I agree with @Rosie3579’s reply to you about safe sustainable weight loss and a focus on health
@BeUncommon sorry about you loss. Thanks for your good introduction. I have a knee where the arthritis has pushed the meniscus so that it is bone on bone in one part. I am fortunate that I don’t have many flare ups. You picked a good group to get support for your progress.
@Candyn617 I have gotten on MFP and forgotten to log my food because I am replying to posts and checking threads. Glad you came back to post.
@Zoejohnse91 Congrats on completing C25K!
@RavenStCloud I am glad you are feeling good about May.
@sarahurc I think you will achieve your #1 goal this month.
@mmdeveau I spent a week trying to set my goals for this month too and finally just decided. Usually I just set them. Don’t know why I am being so picky this month. Congrats on running the 10 miles. I hope you feel recovered soon.
@lilann1961 I think I relate to your quarantine conclusions. I am reading a book a week though. However I am not sure I am proud of this since reading is my fun and I have to do better at the other things.
@Terytha I totally can see why you are concerned. We are supposed to be on temporary furlough all this month but they are talking of opening things up so they can afford to bring us back. We have flattened our curve here but that just means the rate of increase of cases is down. Take care.

It is a bit late but I need to get some exercise in today. I didn't this weekend. Last week was good except for Wednesday? Otherwise I am doing fine with my goals. Last month it took a week+ to see any weight loss. I am staying low but not losing yet.
I guess something that is working is some foods I could never have around because I couldn't stop have been brought home by my husband and I have had a better time not having more than a normal serving of them. Even so if he keeps doing this it will maybe not cause me to gain but it will eventually sabotage my losing.4 -
Well I decided to talk to my husband about bringing junk food home and then I mentioned I needed to get some exercise. Too bad we didn't have 2 exercise machine to do it together so we decided to go for a walk together in the dark. Very nice. I would rather do 30 minutes outside together than 10-15 minutes on my Gazelle alone.9
