Could try Lyle McDonald’s Protein Sparing Modified fast. It’s good for short term weight loss. I must admit I’ve never tried it myself though but you might want to try it.

I'd also perhaps mention to them the great progress you've made in bringing your BMI down already. They may be impressed with your dedication.

if you are not already, do HIIT everyday. that always spurs a quick weight loss for me if i go on a 2 week HIIT binge. Also, google Fat Fast.

HIIT and keto, yaaay! Don't forget intermittent fasting and apple cider vinegar also, he might as well fill up the woo bingo card all at once! :D

That's right! Touch it once and be done with it! Too funny. We can always count on your for a smile and a chuckle!

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Not sure what kind of job this is....I might have missed that detail....but there has been considerable success here and a HUGE effort put forth. Shoot....I would hire you on the spot after heaing about your success and effort (I have a decidedly different attitude as to what "failure" is vs. what "success" is....to me, failure is giving up. Everything else is "success in progress"!).

So, 17lbs in five weeks. Possible? Yes. Probably? Maybe. Good idea? Depends. Not likely, on paper, anyway. Everyone is different and everyone responds to stimulus differently. Could I loose 17lbs in five weeks (I am 51, stand 6'0" and weigh 215lbs - at the moment...up from 202lbs). Probably. In fact, if I HAD to (what I determined to be a "HAD TO" situation) then I like my chances. Would I be a pleasant human being during this process? HELL NO!

The *right* answer is "Don't do it, man!". The real world answer is "Man, this is gonna be tough and you are not going to be a nice person in this time period and you - depending on the job - might really struggle". No one can decide for you. I do not envy you this task.

So, to answer the question......without my opinion or thoughts now....

Pardon the question - but for what kind of job is this? Again, I might have missed that point. Can't really answer without knowing.

Hey, that makes it tough.......does your past progress count? Or, is it "where are you right now?" And, I know a lot of the police officers here in Winston-Salem. There are FOR SURE some bigger dudes. I know two or three of them well (they hang out at the Starbucks that I frequent). I am very confident that they would not pass any BMI requirements....they admit it themselves! Best of luck.....do you, man! I truly hope that things work out for you. If not this year.....depends on how stringent they want to be.....then use it as motivation for next year and kick *kitten* (diet and training) in the next 12 months and show them what they missed out on....

Thanks a lot, I am in the UK so will be joining one of the British constabularies, and they do have BMI requirements as well as an annual fitness test too. As well as being something I have always wanted to do since I was a kid, the nature of the job and annual fitness tests will help keep me on the health/weight straight and narrow too

Good Luck - I know how tough it can be to get in nowadays. Great if you succeed but in case you are unlucky, please don't let it derail your progress :D X

I lost 17 lbs in 5 weeks before (was not substantially overweight to begin with, 5'6, 150 and went down to 133-134)

Mind you, it was not intentional (I was working a lot) but I ate only one time per day, a huge homemade salad, with some cheese, lots of grilled chicken and other veggies, salsa instead of dressing (my preference) and bread on the side. Have no idea how many calories but would bet it was 1100-1200. I did not work out (and no way could I have with this low of calories).

My advice - it's doable, but would skip or dramatically reduce working out. Working out will only be counterproductive for this quick weight loss and make you tired and hungry all the time.

Yeah. It can. I have just done it. Whether or not it works for you I dont know. I am pretty strict with myself. I weighed 14 stone 10 on April 15th. I weighed myself today and I am now 13 stone 7. 40 days it has taken me. I have worked out every single day for 40 days. I run 2.5 miles 4 days a week. Sometimes throw in a 5k if I'm feeling fueled. I stick to 1500-1800 calories. Although I sometimes vary. 4 out of the 7 days I burn between 650 to 800 calories. I regularly burn 300 calories daily through either full body workouts involving ab exercises and push ups. Or weightlifting. It takes commitment man.I'm guessing you are going for a military role with the way you describe your dilemma here. The first week can feel a bit heavy but from there it is smooth sailing. I do sometimes feel hungry but I tell myself to work towards what I want and cope with hunger and cravings.

I'm also with the people that suggest going low carb to drop the glycogen from your body and this drop water weight. That can often (depending how carby your diet was before) be like 5-7 lbs. That, coupled with a 2 lbs per week deficit would maybe pull it off?
