90 minutes on Zwift for me this morning. Tomorrow I’m planning 2 hours outside, hopefully the weather will be good again!2

Cycling for me on Thursday and Friday. Which were also the first days since 11 weeks that I went to the office! For half a day only, after coordination with colleagues to ensure we meet as few people as possible.... But it was nice to get a chance to work at a real desk instead of the dining table, and print a few things on the office printer rather than using my private ink and paper. And I got to use the bike to go to work, of course!
On Thursday I took the direct way to work (12km) and enjoyed a scenic longer route back (26km). When summing up my rides in the evening, I notices I was at 99.8km of my 100km monthly goal
So another bike commute on Friday, for another 13.4km + 12.9 km there and back (always slightly different distances, since I'm still experimenting to find the best route).
126.1km of cycling for May.1 -
80km in the sunshine for me today. I'm riding again tomorrow so will update my monthly total after that3

_nikkiwolf_ wrote: »@AlanKmfp Sorry about all those punctures! Apologies if I state something that is obvious to you, but you've checked that there's no sharp object still hiding inside the tyre? Sometimes I'm in a rush to get my bike working again and skip that, only to regret it when I get a new puncture right away after reinserting the patched inner tube...
What sijomial wrote about the age wearing down the tyres is also a good point. If the rubber is very old, it will get quite fragile. And braking performance suffers too.
Kudos on taking up cycling on an old bike! I never realised cycling could be fun until I tried out a road bike. The bike I had as a student was a heavy monster that squealed and rattled wherever I went, and I never would have imagined going any distance further than a few kilometers on it (and that much only because I didn't have a car and it was cheaper and more convenient than public transport).
Thanks Nikki. Yep, did check the inside of the tyres so all good there but the tyres are the ones that came on the bike so are 10 - 11 years old. They have some tread left but do have some sidewall cracks so probably do need replacing. I've done some basic maintenance but am trying to spend as little as possible as once we are properly out of lockdown I will likely start looking at something new. I guess new tyres are next on the list though along with rear brake pads.
The bike is heavy and whilst I've managed to get the gears working the indexing is still somewhat vague! It's served me well given it's been neglected but I do wonder how much better off I'd be if was on something a bit lighter.
In terms of route planning, Strava is doing a few months free trial so you could always carry on with that until you find an alternative. Garmin has route planning and I've used Endomondo's planner a few times which is free.
Cheers,

Walking, jogging and cycling. My May didn't go quite as planned. I was up to my eyeballs in university assignments and just couldn't get out as much as I wanted. However, I've got one exam in June, then I'm off uni until mid-July so hopefully exercise will increase!1 -
So good to see all of you conversing and cycling here. I'll start a June thread shortly.5

138km/86 miles today. a nice day out on the bikes for my birthday, sunny and we headed to some of the less busy spots on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors.
Total for the month is 933 miles - 685 of them outside and the rest on Zwift. I think that's my biggest cycling month ever, largely due to not having much to do other than riding my bike!3 -
Round up for May which turned out to be a wonderfully warm, sunny and dry month were I am.
Goals - 500 miles / a 100km ride / 25,000' of climbing
Actual - 662 miles / one 100km ride / 26,000' of climbing.
Also did my first "drive the bike to a new area and go exploring" ride since lockdown restrictions were eased.
Think that's this month's 43 hours is the most I ridden. Neglecting my strength training due to closed gym means I don't have that fatigue to factor in.3 -
May is a wrap for me.
Actual = 254.75 miles
Goal = 100 miles
5/2 - 22 miles
5/5 - 22 miles
5/13 - 25 miles
5/16 - 26.5 miles
5/17 - 30.5 miles
5/20- 22 miles
5/22 - 22.75 miles
5/24 - 27 miles
5/28 - 25.5 miles
5/30 - 31.5 miles4 -
Possibly less miles in a month than some of you have done in a day but hey, it's the taking part that counts
As a newbie / returnee my goal in April and May was 40 miles. June goal is 100 miles.
May: 65.78 miles.
April: 50.43 miles.
March: 6.98 miles.
Previous 8 years or so: 0 miles.2 -
300 miles was the goal this month, and in 18 rides I went 386 miles, burned 14,500 calories and was in the saddle for 30 hours and 24 minutes.
All are records for me in a month. Like Alan, I didn’t do much riding most of the last decade or so. The last year I turned my life around and there is no place I would rather be most days than riding my bike. I’m going to get to Helens level one day😂
Seriously tho, good job to all of you. 🚲 💪3 -

HA! Needed to really double look at this one, as my name is Helen! KNEW it could not mean me, as I seriously failed to get back in the saddle this month. I had planned a few more days, but I was sore on a few of them (going through some shoulder pain, I start OT tomorrow) and rained on others, Oh well, June is another month.
GOAL: 25 miles
5/22 - 8.92 miles (8.92 miles done, 16.08 to go) **** GOAL NOT MET****
2 -
I'm not sure how sustainable it is in conjunction with real life, but at the moment all I seem to do is eat, sleep, cycle and work from home so there's plenty of time to get some miles in! I also won a years cycle coaching back in November so my routine has been a bit more bike heavy than it used to be.3
