9.3 (15k) hot miles today. It wasn’t too bad as I decided that since I’m not really training for anything quite yet, and it’s hot, and I didn’t feel like getting up super early, that I would take as many breaks as needed. Which I did, every mile I took a water/electrolyte/fuel walk break and still managed at about 11 min mile average. There were quite a few people out which I was surprised at given the temps, but also nice to see.
It’s our 22 nd anniversary today so we’ll be venturing out for dinner for the first time since shut down. Restaurants are open here now at 50% capacity, and most take your temps before you go in. It’s going to be interesting. Can’t say I’m not a bit nervous.10 -
@Avidkeo glad things aren't looking too bad. Hospital is really stressful though - so that really sucks.
Managed about 23 minutes with lots of walking stops. I have ulcerative colitis and I'm having a flare - just started steroids today. I don't know if it was the steroids making me feels rubbish or psychosomatic. 3 hours 47 minutes left.5 -
Today should have been a long run but I got glutened at lunch (well we had ice cream sundaes from a new place I have never been before, but calling it lunch anyways) so have to skip it. I am trying to be upset, but it is in the 90s today so I am not really as upset as I should be8

@Avidkeo that is great your husband is home form hospital! I always feel like I can never get better until I am out of that place.1

There are thunderstorms all during the early evening so no running for me today. I guess I will use my stationary bike. Running was the last thing keeping me sane and now they have taken it away. I had kept running despite not being allowed to use a park or go anywhere pretty but now I’m not even allowed to see the sky at night. I’m about ready to give up.
Ugh. That sucks. I suspect it will not last long. This is 2020 - the year we get a new global disaster/emergency/invasion ever few weeks. Hopefully, the next one does not have a curfew.3 -

Any medication can mess with you.
Almost every season I get at least a couple of red bullseye tick bites that require anti-lymes disease medication ( I am just lucky I guess) and that med (dyoxi-something) tares up my GI system and I am miserable for the entire duration. The docs are always like "do you want to try a dif med" and I am always like "is that the best med? Cause I would rather be uncomfortable for a week or two then get lymes."
So, basically it might be the meds in your case too.

@shanaber Glad you got your run in during the cool part of the day. The weather does seem to be extra weird this year.
@Avidkeo I hope DH is okay. The worst part about dad being in the hospital last week was not being able to be there to hear what the doctors said and to help him out. I feel for you. Glad he didn't get admitted. Hope the meds work and he feels better soon! Hope you can get some rest.
@Lexigraph Glad you were able to get a nice walk in with the dogs. That looks like an awesome place to take them.

@katharmonic That sounds like a great run and way to support the cause. I don't know why outsiders have to come in and cause problems. Hope it is just rumors and nothing happens.

My plan called for a 10 mile long run today. First I will say that I did it! Yeah me! A PR for distance. It was ugly and there was a whole lot of walking going on, but I got it done.
I meant to get up early, so I could get started before it got too hot. Fail! It was 9:30 when I got started. The temperature was only 73°F, but the humidity was 83%. "They" say it doesn't affect you below 81°F, but I could really feel it today.
I planned to do a run/walk for 4/1 minutes. That seemed to work pretty good a couple of weeks ago. The first 3 or so miles were good, but I started getting really, really hot. I decided to start walking up the hills - a little bit early in the run to do so, but thought it would save some energy for later. Then at around 6 miles I started feeling like I was getting dehydrated. I had stopped sweating for a few minutes, which I know isn't good. I had been stopping for a drink of water or Gatorade every 1 - 1.5 miles. I can't drink too much at a time, or it just sits and sloshes around. Hydration is one of the things I still need to figure out. I did start sweating again, so decided to see how it went. I convinced myself to stop at mile 7 and do the other 3 miles this evening. I was walking a lot by then and feeling a little better, so decided to try for 8. At that point, I was at my mom and dad's house, so I stopped and talked to them for about 10 minutes.
I was going to stroll home and do the other 2 miles on the driveway. But, I didn't want to waste that mileage, so I walked fast most of the way and ran down the hill at my mailbox. I was unsuccessful at continuing to walk fast up my driveway, so stopped the Garmin and inched my way home. I took a short break and then finished the run by doing shortened laps on the driveway - only did the relatively flat area that was in the shade. So, like I said, I got it done, but it was slow and ugly. My first 3 miles were at around a 12:15 pace, the next 2 were around 12:30. Then I somehow messed up and pressed lap or something weird, because it has a lap that is only .34 miles long. Anyway, the last five miles were slower, with the last two being 14:57 and 15:37. I really can walk faster than that, but not when tired. My half mile cool down walk was at 17:14!
I am NOT a morning person at all, but today showed me that I may just have to suck it up and get up early for a long run in the future.
I also walked a mile - half mile each for warm up and cool down. So, total traversed today, was 11 miles.

@hamsterwheel6 Happy Anniversary - hope you have a nice dinner! I am looking forward to restaurants reopening but it is going to be a challenge. Also good job getting through a hot 9 mile run.

I just realized when I looked at my notifications that it's my fifth anniversary of joining MFP today. Wow. What a lot has changed in 5 years. I feel like a completely different person. When I signed up I was really just coming out of a very bad depression. I was the heaviest I had ever been and my health was being negatively impacted. I was starting to make a few positive changes in what I was eating and trying move a little more. Although I had tried many times over the years to lose weight, this time it clicked for me (with the help of being involved in the MFP forums) and I slowly started making progress. And then I took a bold and out of character step and joined a walk to run group at my local YMCA a few months later, having never run in my life other than when forced in phys ed class.
And here I am 5 years later - about 50 lbs lighter and having become something I never would have dreamed *an athlete* who trains and competes in crazy running and obstacle races for fun. I would like to share with you guys, if you don't mind, these pictures - the left is a photo from May 2015, the photo that embarrassed me and told me I needed to do something. The right is from a Spartan race last summer.
I don't remember exactly when I first started participating in this group - I think around summer 2016, but I thank you all for all the support, encouragement, motivation and friendship over these years.13 -

Thanks for the moral support, guys, I’m feeling better now. I decided to fight back against my blues and stayed up all night, did my run when curfew ended first thing in the morning. We got out on the dot at 5 when curfew ended and it was humid and already getting warm when we finished (my husband said ‘I feel like a soggy sock in a hot dryer!’) but much better than it has been in the evenings. Today ended up being another smoker and it was nice to look at the 102 degree heat index and know I had already finished my run for the day. Also nice to be on a schedule where I don’t care if they never end this curfew, which was extended again today.
My knee is still annoying. It’s good for about two running miles then starts complaining. I had 10k on the schedule but ended up doing 5 miles and stopping, with another 2 miles and change walking.
Getting out in the dawn hours did do one thing, I made a friend! We stopped to cross the major street at the same moment as another runner, so we had moved to the other side so as not to be next to each other, and had a yelling conversation while we waited. She said, “Don’t you guys usually run at night? I see you all the time, you run down the street I live on!” And I explained that it was too hot to run before curfew kicked in, and she said the weather was better in the mornings anyway, and I had to agree with her.

@PastorVincent @quilteryoyo @katharmonic @rheddmobile @kgirlhart Thank you for the wishes! It was a great dinner. They checked us in outside , took temps, and then seated us. You really could tell people were spread out. All the staff had masks, and gloves. Menus were disposable. Salt, pepper and other condiments were all packets.
It really did feel safe and I was able to relax and enjoy the meal and being served for a change!

@quilteryoyo I’m with you. I didn’t start out until 9ish either, and I’m not a morning person, but I know I have to be for running for at least the summer. We can do this! Great job gutting it out.4 -

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. He's feeling miserable, but is OK. On the mend but it sounds like it will take a bit before he is 100%.
Im still not running. Leg is definitely getting better, no massive sharp pains whr. I take to it with the roller and Squash ball. It's still a little niggly at times. I'm also using a compression stocking during the day and that seems to help as well.
I have another PT session on Thursday and I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll be running Friday!2 -

Yesterday, I ran my “Run 2 Stay Classy Soft J 5K.” I was a hot, sweaty mess with it being 77* and 95% humidity. Slower than many other 5Ks, but a decent time considering the heat. I then walked another 5K distance to get in some miles for my “Run Across Ga.”
I don’t know if anyone else has joined the Rock n Roll Virtual Race Series, but I looked at it yesterday and figured it would give me some weekly run goals to work towards, and maybe I can earn enough points to get a discount on shoes or something...Today I’m supposed to get an 8K distance. The air outside already feels like a wall of gross, so it will likely be a slow trek.

Sunny and upper 50s F today, with a light breeze from the east. Started out slow; ended up at threshold, so it was a crazy run. Saw two deer where I've never seen deer (or even deer tracks) before. They were both bucks, and had the bewildered look of just having been kicked out by mama to make room for the new baby(s).
Happy double anniversary to @hamsterwheel6 and @katharmonic!!! Tomorrow my wife will celebrate 46 years of having to put up with me -- not an easy task.

I went out for an EARLY run this Sunday morning. Early for me anyway, at 7 am. It was gorgeous out. Just 57 degrees and the humidity was not as awful. I met a couple of friends and we took a very leisurely run around the lakes on the soft trail. There were a ton of runners out there taking advantage this morning and at one point a bunch of us converged at an intersection in the trails - it kind of felt like a mini local race was going on to see all the people in the run community I hadn't seen for a while.
I'm going kayaking today so I'm very excited. I need to get moving actually if I'm going to make my meetup time. Cheers all!4 -

@marisap2010 Ya, it's a lovely spot, I'm super lucky to live just a few steps away from the beach. I'm trying to get out more, especially now that the stay home orders have been relaxed a bit. The dogs love the morning walks too, and I'm committed to staying as active as I can while I rest my shoulder.3 -

All this anniversary talk got me curious, so I tried looking back to when I joined, and my profile just says June 2017. I have a 1098 day logging streak, so I guess my 3rd MFP anniversary was just a few days ago!

@marisap2010 Thank you! And nice swag. I thought about doing that one! I did sign up for the Run Solo aka star wars May 4th and Mothers Day Tough as Mother. Did those and the medals were cool! I agree with these helping staying motivated.

@scott6255 - I guess I am not very observant - I never noticed that our profiles showed when we joined. Apparently it has been 9 years for me last February - whoa! My logging streak is not that long though, maybe 5-6 years because I kept losing it early on and didn't see it as an important thing to maintain.
I got out for a short run yesterday with some stops and walking. It's going to get hot, hot, hotter here this week with temps in the 90s and winds. Fortunately for us we get super low humidity with the hot winds making hydration a must. Need to dig out my vest since using the drinking fountains is not an option.2
